Mafia is dying. how can i say this? Remember the last game with 15 plus people? Yeah Neither do i The games are 5 people (the ones ive done for the last 10 days) And...its not fun anymore (IF YOU ASK ME TRIVIA STOLE EVERYONE :() But...i'd like to say this Im foreshadowing the death of Mafia. PLEASE PROOVE ME WRONG! LETS PLAY SOME MAFIA!
Mafia isn't the same anymore as it used to be. when you want a game during the day you have to flash everyone in the channel and hope at least 4 of them join. games with more than 10 people are "big" games these days. Mafia needs some kind of a marketing campaign to make new people aware of it's existence and what it is. also the regulars have to be more friendly and helpful to new people. I've seen some being pretty rude to others and I don't wonder when they never show up again. I could imagine an announcement here on the forums and also as welcome message in Tohjo Falls for a month or so that informs everyone about Mafia and links to the guides here on the forum. I personally only found out about Mafia because someone linked to it in the main chat and I was curious and bored enough to click on it. I bet over 50% of the current PO users don't really know about Mafia. there are usually over 500 people on PO, if only 5% of them played we would already have huge games (25 people).
I agree. Whose idea was it to make all those mafia themes?! Something must be done, right. Any ideas what?
There are certain times during the day, and on weekends, that there are games with 10+ people, but other than that, it's like pulling teeth. Whatever y'all plan for mafia, I'm on board with it.
No way is it #tours fault. That place is dead anyway. #trivia, maybe, but it is down half the time The biggest reasons arent themes, or people not knowing about mafia (there are usually people sitting in the room just not wanting to play), other channels or even the dying down of hype. Those are all minor reasons but they are not why me and others quit and won't come back. Its because the people playing it have changed and its stopped being fun. Stupid things like the fish code ruin the game. Also so what if people rather play trivia; natural selection of games, ppl tend towards the games they find more fun no crime there. (what im saying in this line is; advertise if you want, change the game to make it more fun (millers are not fun) and generally try to get people but dont blame us for leaving or other channels for being better than yours)
today Mafia moved to Tohjo Falls for 3 or 4 games. that was really good! we obviously got lots of new guys joining, and it didn't went as bad as I expected actually. and after we moved back to our channel some new guys followed and we still had some decent sized games. but I think as a 1 time event this is not enough. it should be repeated. maybe each day 1 or 2 games on Tohjo Falls to get the attention of more people.
It's not the right season. Students are settling into their school routines, and don't have as much time for lazing around and playing text games on a battle simulator as they used to. I love Mafia, but sometimes I don't like some of the themes or players. I could want to play as much Mafia as I did three months ago, but the fact that 1. I have to wait for the right hours to play constant games and 2. Sometimes players are just idiots or trolls and make playing the game not fun, made me take Mafia Channel off of my autojoin channels. I still enjoy the regular standard games with some of the old crowd, but usually I just come on PO to wind down from long days now, as opposed to play something intellectual. One more thing; the amount of people idling on #Mafia Channel makes it a rare thing for the message to show in Tohjo. Good luck finding more than 2 active players on at most times of day, while there's almost always more than ten players just sitting there.
Mafia died honestly because of all the derpiness, its hard to play Mafia when the PL and BG fail all the time, Inspectors never claim etc etc. And whenever someone tries to have a brain while playing that game they get slaughtered night one (coyosyndrome). So die hard Mafia fans just don't play. Advertising it in the main channel is great and I was a mafia noob at once as well but Mafia is WORSE than Tohjo with the derpiness most times. The themes though fun aren't really helping IMO. I am not against themes but i think they are too random and leaves players no time to figure out what the hell they are until they get slaughtered! No one has control over the player base or should, but its just so not fun anymore to play ;_; I was a die hard Mafia fan a die hard! but well I cant be too bothered anymore. I suggest in response to the themes that a Theme be played consistently for a set period of time like a new theme every 4 hrs, so players can learn them and have fun all at the same time. Instead of the randomness.
Its school season? tahts a valid reason indeed. I have a shitload of school work but i still play. Is it impacting my grades? No... But, im all for advertising better.
This. I played Mafia when the people were actually good, but it's no fun when no one playing understands what is going on. It's devolved from a game of skill to a game of luck, either getting a good role or just hoping you aren't somehow screwed over by the idiocy of others.
I'm in #Trivia everyday and we don't have much of a party either. And we're down half the time. If you ask me, we should get rid of the themes, they're pretty annoying.
Yesterday and today, I saw a lot of people in mafia. When I went into the channel, I got in a game both times. I don't think school's a reason. We still have 700+ people on the server whenever we enter. It's just that more people care about battling instead of playing games.
I agree with the derpiness part, but Inspector not claiming isn't bad... If I didn't have a reputation for lying, I could easily go "OMG IM THE REAL INSPECT HES FAKE" and we'd have a mob of people voting him. But anyway, one major thing that made me hate playing mafia is the people who are arguing about lying, and fish code and stuff. MAFIA IS ALL ABOUT LYING. Or you might as well ask everyone in the room if they are mafia or not. School season is an invalid argument because we still have tons of people on the server. Themes: It's somewhat affecting. We should get rid of the random themes, reskins, and plain bad ones (Castle - 1v1 Mafia wtf). I say keep around 15 (±5) themes, including Elements and ClanWar because I said so (not really, but they're good themes). EDIT: This is what happens to me when I tell people to not claim villager. (23:34:32) ±Game: The Amy came to you last night! You were too busy being distracted! (23:34:32) ±Game: You were killed during the night! (23:34:32) ±Kill: Robot was defeated. (Player: yiran) It was Night 1, too.
Not to kick a dead horse or anything... I think I'd be alright if we just got rid of all themes. There are a few (very, very few) that I enjoy more than default, but the rest of them just make it less fun for me. And even thinking of this from a troll's perspective, it would be so easy to start a theme almost universally disliked (I think Carnival is disabled now, but everyone else hated it when I started it) and leave a sour taste in the mouth of everyone who wants to play a game of good ol' mafia. And then, even if we just use committees to somehow decide which themes shouldn't be played, who's to say that players will even like the themes picked? Maybe a theme is fair and evenly distributed, but that doesn't mean people will enjoy playing it. I disagree with a lot of people about Mythology etc etc, but I still have to play them if I want to play mafia. I was never this unhappy with how games went before the themes were implemented. And I think that if we set it to just default, we would get better players and more players. If I were a new player looking to casually play mafia, I wouldn't want to see new names and roles and actions every five minutes; and if I were a determined newbie, I wouldn't grief other players nearly as much if I learned all the possible roles within a few games, which is easily possible with just one theme. Themes are a good idea in theory, but I just dislike how they actually work.
Well i don't know about anyone else, but i used to play mafia so often, but after the themes got installed, and more and more kept appearing, it was really hard to play while trying to work out what roles are actually on your team. it just got way too confusing. I think removing the majority of themes would really help a lot, and i sure would re auto-join mafia. So i'm all for no more themes.
