With 24 pages of suggestions, and the obvious fact that the simulator already subverts the format of a regular DS battle, this may seem silly. Some strategies, such as those relating to Attraction or Rivalry rely on Gender - these are obviously rare because in the DS metagame, Genders are pretty much still random and have a tiny impact on the whole. As a result, people rarely bother choosing a gender for new pokemon they create, leading to teams of often entirely male pokemon which people can then take advantage of. This isn't something they could do with regular DS battles. So basically, I just think it would be a good idea to have gender randomly selected whenever a new pokemon is selected, and then the user can change it if they see fit.
I don't really see what use this would have. Whilst you do not know the gender of the Pokemon that's in an Egg, you can save before picking up the egg, then soft reset every time it hatches to try and get the opposite gender, or a different nature etc. By doing this, you are essentially picking what gender your Pokemon is. Unless one of the devs wishes to comment and say that this is actually a good idea, I'm gonna lock this topic in about 24 hours.
Not exactly, egg's ivs, gender, nature, and everything else are already defined by the time you have it in your party. The point is that no breeder will care about gender (unless we're talking about Ralts, or he is some kind of sexist) as chances of getting desired pokemon are already very low to make them even lower by waiting for specific gender. Basically, chances of encountering female Machamp (7:1), or male Ninetales (1:3) in Wifi are extremely low, but in case of Ninetales, opposite is true for PO (65% are male, 35% are female).
I like this idea, and I don't see why it should not be implemented. If people want to have a specific gender for their Pokemon, they should be able to elect it, but the Pokemon all being male by default doesn't make any sense. I think it'd be cool if when you chose a Pokemon its gender was determined randomly based off of its gender liklihood ratio. It would help to better simulate the cartridge games, and it wouldn't hurt any metagames at all (it would help in certain situations). I hope this gets more support.
I already thought about it actually. It should be an option, but yea, it can be good. (The reason for it is just the fact that then you don't have to bother to change the genders of your pokemon to female to counter attract & rivalry)
I'm glad people are on board with the idea. I'm actually guilty of using a Male Rivalry Haxorus and exploiting all-male teams, which is why I brought it up. Whereabouts Unknown brought up a good point, which I thought about. Basically if you were to randomise genders, you could simply make it a 50/50 chance across the board with the obvious exception of male/female only pokemon - as a fix. Or you could go further and emulate the game itself, meaning starters have a 75% chance to be male by default when created (and other examples), as it would essentially mirror the actual metagame - it would take a bit more work, of course.
