After reading this thread from Smogon, it appears that a lot of people would prefer that the happiness value was set to 255 by default, not 0. This makes it more like what it would be in game after you train a Pokémon to Level 100 and EV train it. It will apparently also make it easier for sites like Smogon (and our own if we ever get around to writing analyses) to write the analyses, because Return would cover both Cartridge and Simulator gaming. Although it is something minor and not overly important, it's something small that could make a few people's lives a bit easier, although the developers obviously have better things to be doing.
Just use Frustration. It has the same base power and no additional effect like Return. I may be speaking out of line or something, but there's no reason to do this.
I do just use Frustration, I'm just saying that it looks as if Smogon wants the default value changed so that they don't need to write 'You have to change the Happiness value to 255 to use Return' on every page, nor do they have to write Frustration / Return on every page. I personally don't care if it stays as is, it just makes things that little bit easier.
we've kind of stopped listening to smogon.. lol. not entirely, but honestly, it's not that big of a deal. plus, frustration is cooler sounding.
I guess their both fair points, i just don't know which one. Like I said, I really don't care either way.
Personally, I think that this relatively minor change wouldn't be harmful to the simulator at all, and it would benefit people who always forget to use Frustration or set their happiness, not to mention that it is more relevant to people that actually battle over Wifi, as it is easier to raise happiness to max when raising your Pokemon than it is to lower happiness to 0. Happiness is already set to 255 when you import a Pokemon with Return, why not just make 255 the default happiness? Or, as an even better idea, make it so that the happiness is set to 255 automatically when Return is put on a moveset, and 0 when Frustration is put on. If both are put on, put 255 as the happiness rating, and change it to 0 if Return is then removed. Of course, I don't have a say in whether this occurs or not, but I certainly don't see why it shouldn't be done.
Yeah... it will be sufficient to automaticallly set happiness to 255 when Return is added and set it to 0 when Frustration is added. Though Challenge Cup indeed picks 255 happiness always if return and frustration are both there.
Sigh, you guys don't see the hidden message here. We PO guys are always frustrated. So that's why happiness is 0 by default too. ;3
Could you do this in CC, since when you have Return you have max happiness and when you have frustratrion you get 0 Happiness (and if you get them both you get one with 1 power), but if you mimic them, you are stucked with a 37 base power attack, i know is reall little but it's frustrating when you het a horribly week attack when you're being sweeped by a 102 attack
That's how it can happen in real battles too. I had this once when foe's ditto transformed into my Flareon and used Return… with 0 happiness. Epic! :3
The switch to 255 happiness when Return added and 0 when Frustration added wasn't implemented with this last update. There's no reason to hate an idea just because smogon suggested it. It doesn't make you dark or edgy.
Wouldn't making the default base power of Frustration/Return 102 work as well? Along with just taking out the happiness function. Edit: And sorry I realize this is an old thread I was just wondering.
