Hello, among reading the other suggestions, I'd like to point out that there are no Mail(s) in the item selection. The Mail item (Air Mail, Bloom Mail, etc) stops the use of trick whcih can be very useful. Although I see the suggestions are closed, I would still like to see this issue brought up regardless of any action taken. If I am not following the rules by creating this thread, or I am in the wrong by any means, please delete this thread ;_;
Well you can't use Mail (yet) but you can always give your pokemon something useless like a Griseous Orb (at least in OU) or a Cheri Berry or something to that extent
I just tested out using Trick on a Pokemon with Mail in-game, and it fails (as I thought it should). Therefore, it could be a gimmicky way of dealing with Trick users. I reckon they should be implemented, even though I think it'd be a waste of an item. (P.S. @ Avi, your post was pointless. He knew that Mail wasn't yet implemented, and he was asking if they could be. Try reading.) (P.P.S. @ Akusu, as his post and my post states, holding Mail blocks Trick. Your post is incorrect. Try testing things out first.)
Yes.... which is why I'm saying that it's a problem that's it's not implemented because putting some other "useless" item still means you receive what is usually a choice item. I'll admit I was a bit cryptic but seriously, I'm not stupid.
SHeesh Oak. No need to slam me... I didn't realize that the point of the block was to avoid a choice item. I just thought it was to avoid giving the foe a better item (L.O. or Lefties)
you can still give it no item, which will deal with trick. no point in implementing mail just for that IMO.
If you have no item, you can still be Tricked an item, and then the Trick user can Trick a different Pokemon to get a different item.
Well, I would need 6 mails (because someone playing with item clause might want 6 different mails), as well as their icons (same format as other item icons). If there's all the mails, its ok too. I also would like to know if a mail can be flung, and what about knock off? Thanks
Coyotte, you could implement all mails and only include 6 in the "not useless items" category. I'll find some sprites and check if the fling/knock off info is around.
Found them: http://veekun.com/dex/items/mail if no one else wants to save/name them correctly, i'll do it after exams. Can't find any listing for Fling base power, or any special mention of it not being knock offable, which I take to mean it can't be flung and can be knocked off, but best to test it.
And as for competitive use, I remember someone talking about using Mail Wobbuffet in Ubers, since trick utterly ruins it and switching into a choiced Trick then trapping the opponent is awesome. So, it's not quite pure gimmick.
there are certainly other pokemon who will appreciate it as well - leads who want to be able to beat trickleads etc.
Possible issue, does it work that way when you battle another player online? I know mail is a funny item...
Double checked Trick and Mail whilst testing for Knock Off, and confirming that Mail blocks Trick. Knock Off does remove the Mail. Even though this happens, it'd still be useful against Trickers, because a Pokemon that has had its item Knocked Off cannot be affected by Trick (or Switcheroo). Thief (and therefore, Covet) does not work on Mail either. I love Banette. Learning Knock Off, Thief and Trick by level up made my work a lot easier. EDIT: woo, 200th post.
It seems as though it would be viable to use. However, would programming these into the game yield actual usage based on what you all are speculating.
I think that it has some merit adding the mail into the source. I mean, it's not too big of an edit (I don't think). You would only have to write a couple lines of code and then copypasta like 10 or so times for each of the mail items.
No, actually, I would only have to write a couple of lines, and then in the items file put the number of the effect in the line corresponding to the item file. I won't copypaste teh code for each mail. It's ok for an add, all i need now is the list of their names and their icons following the format we currently have.
Wow, thanks for all the replies and really looking into this, I've always thought scarf tricksters wreaking havoc without a care was BS. Eric DID post the link for the mail(s) list, but for coyotte I put a simpler "on hand" list for the names: Air Mail Bead Mail Bloom Mail Brick Mail Bubble Mail Dream Mail Fab Mail Flame Mail Glitter Mail Grass Mail Harbor Mail Heart Mail Mech Mail Mosaic Mail Orange Mail Retro Mail Shadow Mail Snow Mail Space Mail Steel Mail Tropic Mail Tunnel Mail Wave Mail Wood Mai It'll really make my day when these are in the system (or at least only six) Thanks again guys.
I edited the quote so that it only includes the Mail that you can get access to in DPPHGSS. Mail from RSEFRLG cannot be brought over by Pal Park. Direct links to Veekun's Mail images. They are the ones that are used in-game. Do with them as you wish. NOTE: I only included the ones in the quote in this post, as they are the only ones available for the 4th Gen. coyotte, what program do you use to edit the source? Im using Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate... but idk if I should use something else, considering Im just starting out.
Take that sort of question to the Developer's Den forum instead of a randomly selected topic in the Suggestions forum.
Could someone add them to db/items/Items.zip ? 214.png, 215.png, ... I've already added the items, but not their image.
