IntroductionHey, everyone, Harry here, with my current DW team. After posting my OU gen 4 team, I was a little disappointed because I realized that it made very little sense to post such an outdated team, so I decided to post a team that I had used much more recently to top the ladder! I originally made this team in preparation for the banning of Chandelure, but ended up hitting #3 before it was even banned. The banning, however, only made the team stronger, and just after Chandelure was put into Ubers I hit #1 on the DW leaderboard with a rating of 1655. Here they are everyone, Team Starvation. Overview This team is centralized on Blaziken passing, as it is truly the most abusive thing to the DW metagame. I'm not calling it broken, but it's incredibly powerful. Blaziken passes to Garchomp most of the time, though when I don't find that as an option, Gliscor comes in handy. Breloom for late game and revenging things such as low health sweepers, and Excadrill, and to give me an edge on rain teams, and Ferrothorn for the obvious resists and overall bulk, as well as my first hazard layer. Tyranitar is mainly there to counteract rain, and just be plain bad-ass. The names are based on the super addictive books 'The Hunger Games', hence the name Team Starvation. In Depth Analysis Glimmer Ferrothorn (F) @ Leftovers Ability: Iron Barbs EVs: 252 HP / 252 SDef / 4 Def (0 Spe IVs) Sassy Nature (+SDef, -Spe) - Gyro Ball - Power Whip - Spikes - Leech Seed Glimmer, my shining spiker, is my lead because I like to have spikes up as soon as possible to get as much damage as I can on every single one of their grounded Pokemon. Many of my team members are not nearly as useful without residual damage on the opponent, because they won't score close to as many OHKOs. Her typing is also amazingly useful against rain, as she resists both stabs of Kingdra, and can wall most other sweepers on rain teams, as well as doing massive damage to things like Politoed with Power Whip. The provided EVs are relatively straightforward. They allow her to sponge as many hits as she can from abusive rain teams, while recovering tons of HP back from Leftovers and Leech Seed. Foxface Gliscor (F) @ Toxic Orb Ability: Poison Heal EVs: 204 Atk / 148 Spe / 156 Def Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk) - Fling - Protect - Acrobatics - Earthquake Named for her sly look, and unique ability to survive for most of the game, Foxface is mainly an answer to Breloom, as well as a much needed Ground immunity on my team. Protect is for maximum recovery with Poison Heal, Fling to make Acrobatics as strong as possible, and Earthquake for coverage and super-effective hits on things like Tyranitar and Excadrill. The EVs are a little screwy, I know, and I'll answer my reason for the large attack investment later. Her speed however is just to outspeed Jolly Breloom, and the rest of what was left over was dumped into bulk to help her take physical hits easier. Marvel Tyranitar (M) @ Leftovers Ability: Sand Stream EVs: 252 HP / 252 SDef / 4 Atk Sassy Nature (+SDef, -Spe) - Stealth Rock - Rock Slide - Fire Blast - Crunch Named for the murderer of Rue, Marvel is my special wall who is not afraid of anything. Not being OHKOd by Life Orb Focus Blast off of Timid Gengar shows just how massively bulky he is. He shrugs off hits from rain teams, taking not even 30% from the standard bulky Politoed's Surf. Stealth Rock because I couldn't find anywhere else on my team, sadly. I would have liked to have Ice Beam for Gliscor and the Dragons, but I needed rocks on my team. Rock Slide over Stone Edge for accuracy and PP, Fire Blast for Scizor, Genesect, Breloom, and Ferrothorn, (it should be noted that +1 Bug Buzz from standard lead Genesect does not do more than 60%) scoring a OHKO on all but Ferrothorn who is easily 2HKOd. The EVs are made just to make him as bulky as possible. Rue Breloom (F) @ Life Orb Ability: Technician EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe / 4 Def Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk) - Swords Dance - Mach Punch - Bullet Seed - Spore Adorable, and seemingly harmless, but dangerous when used correctly, Rue is my revenger, and late game sweeper. Mach Punch after a swords dance can OHKO Genesect, providing that I don't roll min damage, and without boost can OHKO Tyranitar, and Excadrill. Bullet Seed for things that resist Fighting, such as Gliscor, Jellicent, and the likes. Spore is there for the obvious reason of disabling any Pokemon on their team unless it's an Espeon or Xatu Cato Blaziken (M) @ Leftovers Ability: Speed Boost EVs: 120 Atk / 252 Spe / 136 Def Jolly Nature (+Spe, -SAtk) - Protect - Swords Dance - Baton Pass - Hi Jump Kick There is a reason that I named Blaziken after Cato. He is described in the book as massive, dangerous, and above all, insane. Without blinking he snaps another child's neck, and in the end only dies when taken out by a pack of genetically engineered dogs designed to brutally murder the tributes in the Hunger Games. Cato is arguably the most powerful member of this team, and really holds the team together. Protect is for free speed boosts, and Swords Dance passing to Garchomp or Gliscor really makes them a far sight more powerful than they already are. Hi Jump Kick is just to give him an attack so that he can dish out some damage. The best thing about Cato is that he can sweep with a Swords Dance, even though he's only designed to Baton Pass. The given EVs are for as much speed as possible, and then enough attack to OHKO Garchomp after a Swords Dance with Hi Jump Kick, and then Baton Pass to give all its boosts to another Pokemon. Thresh Garchomp (M) @ Leftovers Ability: Sand Veil EVs: 252 HP / 240 Def / 16 Spe Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk) - Substitute - Swords Dance - Dragon Claw - Earthquake The powerhouse of the Hunger Games, Thresh is truly a monster. Most people don't realize that Garchomp is as bulky as Swampert, with speed and attack that far outrank most of the DW tier. Therefore, I decided to give him a disgusting amount of bulk, and laugh at my opponent's attempts to stop him. To give you an idea of his bulk, standard Gliscor with Ice Fang does 35%, and with Acrobatics cannot break a sub. Same goes for standard Ferrothorn with Power Whip, that is, if either of them can hit him behind a sub. Even the massively powerful Blaziken and Excadrill can't hurt him that badly. Without Life Orb and Adamant nature, Blaziken cannot OHKO with a +2 Hi Jump Kick, and unboosted Earthquake from Excadrill does barely 38%. 80% Accuracy on 100% accurate moves plus this bulk, plus him being even faster than normal thanks to Blaziken means that Thresh is truly an unstoppable killing machine. Even with no attack investment, he still OHKOs standard Genesect with Earthquake after a Swords Dance, and with hazards on the field scores OHKOs on many other Pokemon. I hope you all enjoyed seeing what I consider to be my most successful team yet in Dream World! Use it if you want, I'd love to see it get some recognition. Also; for those of you wondering why I put so much attack on Gliscor, it's because I fear my own Garchomp so much. That set is to break the sub of Garchomp with Acrobatics. Remember to rate it, 5 stars if you like it, and Peace out, all! -Harry Importable [secret] Ferrothorn (F) @ Leftovers Trait: Iron Barbs EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef Sassy Nature (+SDef, -Spd) - Spikes - Gyro Ball - Leech Seed - Power Whip Gliscor (F) @ Toxic Orb Trait: Poison Heal EVs: 204 Atk / 156 Def / 148 Spd Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk) - Fling - Acrobatics - Earthquake - Protect Tyranitar (M) @ Leftovers Trait: Sand Stream EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SDef Sassy Nature (+SDef, -Spd) - Fire Blast - Stealth Rock - Rock Slide - Crunch Breloom (F) @ Life Orb Trait: Technician EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spd Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk) - Mach Punch - Swords Dance - Spore - Bullet Seed Blaziken (M) @ Leftovers Trait: Speed Boost EVs: 120 Atk / 136 Def / 252 Spd Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk) - Swords Dance - Protect - Baton Pass - Hi Jump Kick Garchomp (M) @ Leftovers Trait: Sand Veil EVs: 252 HP / 240 Def / 16 Spd Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk) - Swords Dance - Earthquake - Substitute - Dragon Claw [/secret]
it should be noted that this team has major issues with Gliscor that has Ice Fang and Swords Dance, as well as Keldeo, since both get super effective hits on my entire team.. (except ferrothorn for Gliscor) Solutions to this would be appreciated more than anything! Thanks!
But... Blaziken is so awesome! And Cato is retarded! Lol. I think you need a good Fighting resist other than Gliscor. I don't mean remove Gliscor, your Gliscor is great. I mean maybe replace Ferrothorn with a good Spiker that resists / neutral to Fighting? Like Skarmory. You already have two Ground Types to make up for its Electric Weakness.
Blaziken is a raging fighting chicken with a glint in his eye that makes you think he would kick your head off. :p Cato is just a monster. Fair? yes. I thought about that, but he's really crucial to me vs rain teams, and not many other spikers resist Water like he does, other than... >.> Cloyster. The main thing I think I need is something with Psycho shock, or maybe a latios, that could kill Keldeo before it could give me trouble :p
I expected so much from it until I read Baton Pass on Blaziken </3 Any who, there is not much to say, as the sets are basically standard. The EV's are quite different though. Presentation wise, I think it would look a bit better if you centered the sets and sprites. For Keldeo, it is no where near a threat lol, it dies from a +2 Mach Punch, and HJK after rocks/spikes. Gliscor, just keep Ferrothorn alive.
ferrothorn will die before it can do too much damage to gliscor, and it's harder than you think to get +2 on Loom vs a good player with Keldeo. :p
Like i suggested in teh tournaments channel when you asked, a latios or latias with psyshock would be able to cover your keldeo weakness. (Latias if you want more counters to rain). Blaziken can also baton pass some speed plus-age to it. Actually, imo, blaziken only needs to pass on speed to either breloom or chomp anyways as they both wield teh swords dance, hence blaziken not needing swords dance, and making use of that moveslot for some fire attack or something. But thats just my opinion. Good team as always. I might actually try that blaziken and chomp bp duo hmm.
Hey Harry :3 This team looks like the absolute sex, and I remember having some of the most memorable (and close) battles against it. There's really not much I can point out that isn't covered, and the team looks to be the penultimate bulky Sandstorm team. I can see you having troubles with bulky Keldeo with HP Ice. I know this isn't really a common threat, but since I use one I may as well point it out. After a Calm Mind, it can take any attack thrown at it and OHKO everything on your team aside from Ferrothorn, and if that is even the slightest bit weakened (which it most probably will be, in the lead position) it will die to a +1 Secret Sword. I'm not sure how you'd remedy this without changing the workings of the team, and I'm sure you have ways around it... Really nice team. Also, I'm stealing your Garchomp.
i swear, DW will be a sad, sad place if this garchomp becomes standard. Everything will have to run atk evs so to break subs, otherwise you get swept.
Until speed boost baton pass Blaziken exists in game, I am forced to give this team a thumbs down. No offense Harry, it looks strong though. Also, it's likely I would never beat you in this tier, but still, it doesn't exist.
I don't see how you have problems with Ice Fang Gliscor...I mean your Garchomp can just evade those easily anyways right ;) Anyways, good team Harry, Blaziken/Breloom combo is cool just like the rest of the team.
Grats on #1 :) Really nice team, Isn't it nice to have good items on Ferrothorn and Breloom rather than Shed Shell? Anyway, no recomendations as of yet, great team ^^
Until the dream world tier is fully taken out, because there is nothing more to be found out, Speed Boost Blaziken does exist, since this "tier" is all theoretical, we are assuming that the combination will eventually be released. Still, thanks for calling it strong :3 I only really have problems if it gets an SD, because with my set EVs chomp only KO's gliscor with +6.. and so if I get in an SD war, I end up getting wrecked. It mainly has to do with how most of my team is outsped by Gliscor. If he runs EVs that put him slower then Loom then I can bullet seed him for the revenge after I sack chomp to KO him. True. MY GOD YES, i LOVE the metagame without Chandelure. When it was first suspected I thought I wouldn't, but this time I spend so much time laddering so that I could vote with a really high rating to ban it. I was actually running LO loom before the ban, because I needed the extra power for Genesect (DJHezzy) late game, but I did have Yache on Chomp because I was sick of being revenged by scarf chandelure if I passed chomp speed. I also love having leftovers on Ferrothorn because I HATED how short he lasted versus rain. this way he's guaranteed to last at least a few turns longer, especially with seeds. <3 it. Thanks! Too bad I didn't hold the spot for long :p the main weaknesses to be rectified are Deoxys (lead and normal) as they outspeed me and my only real method to stop them from getting up too many hazards or killing too many pokes is just to gyro ball away at it with my lead. Keldeo because it has perfect coverage to beat my team, although I've never had a problem with poliwrath :3 if Keldeo wasn't fighting type I could handle it, but secret sword is kind of a bitch to ttar. =/ and I stand by my Gliscor Weakness :p
Solid team, great stuff. How else do you deal with Skarmory besides Fire Blast with Tyranitar? Just curious.
Keldeo would give this team a lot of trouble (what team doesn't it give trouble to though). The best counter to keldeo I have seen is slowbro/king. It resists both stabs and the usual hidden power (unless hp electric, but then it doesn't give your team as much trouble. Slowking also has good special defense to tank a few and ko, though slowbro is over all more useful), and gets stab + se and it gets past cm with psyshock. The only thing is I do not see it fitting onto your team without giving you a weakness to something else. This is why I hate keldeo, my teams are always weak to it, or weak to something else/lacking enough offensive power if I am not keldeo weak. Overall, nice team.
Most of the time I actually do use Tyranitar to deal with it, but typically I'll just use Breloom to spore it, grab a swords dance, and mach punch, if It sleeps 3 turns it dies, if it doesn't, i'll come in to finish with Blaziken. I do like the idea of Latios/Latias, though I do with Tyranitar weren't so prevalent. I might do a defensive CM latias set with Psycho shock, and that could give me a good way to beat Keldeo if I pass some speed. I think what I'm going to do is turn this team in a little different direction, which is, passing fast and powerful things that I have made bulky, speed. Latias would probably work better, and since most Tyranitar are not scarf/CB anymore, I could give her a bunch of Defense, or just use her as a lure for chomp to set up Breloom. Will definitely test this :p note my post saying the biggest threat to this team is keldeo. I'm not an idiot, Roy >.> but thank you for the kind words :p
huh, I suppose that would happen. Thankfully, at my level on the ladder, I've seen 1 Nidoking, and that was Pearl using his UU team.. This team is much more consistent in the higher range of the ladder.
Very good team,I have tried it and it can Rip apart unprepared teams like There's no Tomorrow! Yeah,Nidoking does Give a bit of trouble, capable of EPing Blaziken and T-Tar,Though T-Tar can survive once but won't 1HKO it back,Ice Beaming Garchomp and Gliscor and...you know the rest. But it is still a fantastic team otherwise! Thankfully, i Have Not faced a Keldeo much, but you could BP a SD and 2 Speed Boosts to Breloom or Garchomp, you could put a Focus Sash on Blaziken but it would still be hard otherwise...
the only problems i can see with this team( yes i stole it) the garchomp even at +6 cannot OHKO gliscor. gliscor is one big pain in the ass, it just sweeps. im lovin' the gliscor set, but you really, really need something to counter gliscor. what about ice beam somewhere on the team? im thinking Ttar. whaddya think?but what to remove ive found crunch to be useless. im gonna change it.hmmmmm.
the issue with that is I have sandstorm, which is usually up before blaziken comes in, and I don't have a spinner.. and blaziken's not a lead. it's true, if I get a pass off, keldeo is no issue. it's when I don't that I usually have to sack loom/blaziken =/ lol, idk where you are on the ladder, but where I am it's ridden with Reuiclus, who can be a real pain in the ass =/ um, also; where I am, very few gliscor run ice fang, and they can't break a sub with the standard defensive set, it's offensive gliscor that's a real bitch.. I was considering turning my blaziken into offensive mix, with HP ice? and then ditch swords dance, because Loom and Garchomp have it, but that's just an idea. also; lol if you ditch crunch.
You should really move the Def EVs on Gliscor to HP, doing so will allow you to take physical hits about the same, but special hits much, much better. Also, the Speed on it seems kinda random, I'd probably lower it to 72 for Jolly Tyranitar, or even less tbh (since you have Chomp and Ken for it). Maybe even try a different Gliscor set - bulky Swords Dancers are pretty good and would have really good offensive synergy with Garchomp since they would weaken each other's counters. Other than that and lolish Nidoking weakness, I really like this team. I gave you 5 stars btw<3
thanks babe ;) and to be honest, I think I'm gonna lower the speed, but only enough for Adamant Breloom since Jolly can't KO well with a swords dance anyway. But yeah, I think changing my Gliscor to a slightly different set would be good. Suggestions? and thank god nobody uses Nidoking.. EXCEPT PURLL
Thought; what about Rotom-W over Gliscor. solves issue of Keldeo, and other Gliscor, and even random ass nidoking with Hydro Pump :p
Excellent team youve got there Harry. definitely giving this 5 stars(that and because i want that garchomp SO bad lol). Also, try using black belt over life orb for breloom. It still scores almost all the same OHKO's that LO gives but without recoil(which, in sandstorm, will kill him quickly) and most slower pokes are getting OHKO'd by bullet seed anyways, bar 2 hit rolls.
-def. nature(most common kind i think) Genesect is just OHKO'd 100% of the at full health. Neutral natured Genesect is still OHKO'd most of the time, but is a guaranteed OHKO with ANY kind of hazards up(which, considering you have Ferrothorn, is almost always likely). These calculations were done assuming Genesect has no defensive EV's.
most are naive, i believe, not hasty =/ but yeah, I just need it so that after rocks, if I have an SD up, I'll get the OHKO ;p
well it does score the kill then. just be aware that the lowered damage output of bullet seed will be very noticeable in some cases(ex. reuniclus will need 4 hits to kill at +2 instead of just 3)
that garchomp is a BOSS. a complete BOSS. baton pass him a couple of speed boost and an SD and its GG. but gliscor is STILL a pain, that SD variant just sweeps with no problem and i DID ditch crunch and its working out a lot better that way, maybe its because im playing on my test alt( where im LOWWWW) there arent tooo many reuniclus and anyway your team is just physical attackers galore so it doesnt matter also tangela walls a large portion of your team(lolz)im serious. and keldeo just 6-0s. your team is also weak to that loser called conkeldurr. i dunno about you but i've been swept by conkeldurr countless times. yeah, yeah you can say gliscor walls it but actually not really. acrobatics doesnt do all that much after a couple of bulk ups and considering you dont have a taunter its quite a threat. maybe you can spore but that will still require sacrificing a poke. also get a mix blaze that would somewhat alleviate your roob weakness. and i agree with expert belt because sandstorm+LO just does too much damage. DO NOT ditch swords dance with hazards up a +2 HJK can kill quite a lot. it sweeps when the other sweepers fail. lower down on the ladder this team is definitely not as good and oh BTW if it comforts you or something i played a guy with THE EXACT SAME TEAM and 6-0d him. it was lulz that chomp rocks. once again OFFENSIVE GLISCOR is more than capable of 6-0ing this team. BE CAREFUL
Never tried the team and it looks solid. But isn't Blaziken now uber? That pretty much ruins the team. Ferrothorn is easily countered by taunt (AERODACTYL) but I don't know what to do with the rest. You definitely need to make your Gliscor more resistant against special-Ice type moves, or he's dead...and that's what you should use against other Gliscors, ICE BEAM. Porygon-Z works well with the speed boosts from Blaziken and it's not that frail, if you run modest, pory z has 405 sp att. One nasty plot and it's the special counterpart of Garchomp. But since you focus more on bulk and not on glass cannons...I don't know what to you should do...
I am thinking of stealing this team for two reasons 1) Because I usually play UU and want to maintain a rating in the standard metagame, and this team looks nearly flawless in every way. 2) I FUCKING LOVE THE HUNGER GAMES! Also, @The guy above me, we aren't the assholes at Smogon who ban things for no real reason (lol @ Ubermence last gen)
Blaziken is not Uber, at least, not on Pokemon Online. Our tiers have rather split off from theirs, because in a general sense, they are too banhappy. REUNICLUS IS NOT UBER. *cough*. Anyways, I'm not going to make Gliscor take ANY ice attacks, that's not the point of him. He's a PHYSICAL wall, and will never have to take a special ice attack unless I'm foddering him. Pory-Z is OHKO'd by priority from the most common revenge killer, Breloom, and tyranitar walls him making him look pathetic, unless I run hidden power fighting, which is.. meh to say the least. It is NOT the special counterpart of Garchomp by ANY means, as it has almost no bulk whatsoever. This team is far from flawless, and in fact I've had to continually edit it, because since Chandelure's ban, the metagame has shifted 5 or 6 times in 2 days. I just need for it to stabilize so that I can make this team to fit it better. For instance, if Keldeo becomes any more common, I'm probably going to turn something on this team into a poke specifically designed to kill Keldeo. I love the hunger games too, and am rather obsessed with them right now :p I've read each of the 3 books at least 3 times, the first even more. :D
Hmmm, keldeo...never meet him that often, maybe pray for no keldeos? Edit: wait, isn't AA better than acrobatics? Edit2: Oh, and for that talk about pory z, i'm just a balanced person....don't like one sided weaknesses
@T3 Aerial Ace isn't better now because Acrofling Gliscor's Acrobat rises to 110 Base Power after it gets rid of Toxic Orb. So, yeah, with STAB its the best.
Grats on #1 Harry. As with almost all #1 teams there really isnt much to fix. About your Keldeo weakness I cant really say much except passing speed to loom to kill it with bullet seed, either that or switching one of your Pokemon for a Keldeo counter like the afforementioned psychics (not sure who you'd replace though). Life Orb is SUICIDE with sand.
