Players around the world are starting to share their best scores and screenshots playing a new Pokémon game. I'm talking about a mobile game centered entirely around what is widely considered the weakest, most useless creature: Magikarp. Like Pokémon GO and Pokémon Duel before it, Magikarp Jump is a 100% official Pokémon game, it has nothing to do with Nintendo. Nintendo does not directly own the brand, which is why Pokémon is a little looser with mobile games and licensing in general. Gameplay is simple: feed and train your Magikarp to increase its Jump Power (JP), and then enter it into jumping competitions. There's no skill involved, and the game isn't difficult, but it's endearing and I found myself becoming attached to the Magikarp I'd spent all of 20 minutes with. Unfortunately, once your Magikarp reaches level 20, it'll retire from the jumping competitions and you have to start over with a new one. The game is currently available for free (with in-app purchases) on iOS and Android devices. Perhaps this game does not manage to be in the top of the best applications on the app stores but it is enough to have a good time and not be bored. What if you share with us in which level you are, how many events have you won or maybe how have you named your Magikarp
Me being cozy and trying to hold Magikarp tight, I feel like he might slip and bounce any moment. Hating how unfair the game is, NO FEMALE AVATAR.
Got the game and was pretty shocked when Spoiler my Magikarp was EATEN ALIVE Made it to heavy league then got some lucky rolls in training to go through several Magikarp quickly. Now am in great league and the second battle of the league already has 65k power wtf.
I think the avatar is meant to be sorta-gender-neutral-but-looks-more-like-a-male-character. Doesn't look explicitly male, explicitly female or anything in between (except it clearly isn't an Apache helicopter). I've been spending bits of my free time raising Magikarp. Considering that Fire Emblem Heroes has bored me with a relative lack of new content and no more free orbs AND needs to be connected to the internet, Pokémon GO is boring in a location without a large variety of things to visit AND needs to be connected to the internet, and Super Mario Run is just shit, I think this more casual approach to a smartphone app from Nintendo IPs is currently alright. At Fast League now. Taking forever to build Magikarp strong enough to beat it, ironically.
Started on Saturday morning. My level is now 22. Karps reach over 400k JP already. I've already gotten one golden karp in 21 generations. Most fun.
It's a fish bone pattern, looks pretty cool. EDIT: You know, I read a Forbes article on the game and it was basically him being completely livid over his magikarp being taken away by a Pidgeotto at the end of it. Was a pretty good read because of it.
Just got "Dank Theme" for my tank. Edit: read the Forbes post. I wonder how that guy would react to learning that Idle Games are an entire genre.
When you need to get rid of your magikarp that gets %JP bonuses from events only but don't want to fork over 10 diamonds: Spoiler: Pidgeotto are still assholes
See: Nugget event. I like this, and hate it. Uninstalled it after I got my first golden karp after beating the Friend League.
slow grind to beat the Luxury league atm for me Had every pattern I have can at this point, though the last 6 patterns unlock after beating Luxury League. 2 shinies in total. Missing about 3 events of those I can get, stupid Slowpoke event won't turn up at all. The Forbes article is basically "I wanted a full 3DS-like Pokémon game for my phone, not a game that will appeal to a mass market of mobile gamers!" It's indicative that Forbes are allowing people with limited-to-no knowledge on a subject to write articles. Stupid.
Pretty much in the same situation as Oak, except I'm currently raising my 46th Magikarp, two of them being shinies, yet I somehow still haven't found any Magikarp with the second type of Orange pattern lol
Haven't been lucky enough to catch a shiny yet myself, but I like your strategy of never losing one due to never playing again lol. I'm just grinding my way through the Heavy Great League right now. Working on getting all the training items to level 25 since they get a spike in usefulness then.
