SM UU Viability Rankings Welcome, to the official SM UU Viability Ranking Thread! As a community, we will determine a Pokemon's viability in the SM UU tier by "ranks". Users are encouraged to post stating where a Pokemon should be ranked, with a short explanation why. Posts like "I think X Pokemon should be in Y tier" will not be tolerated. Please remain respectful when discussing changes. This is only a preliminary list as of right now, and will be continually worked on until SM UU reaches an end. Note that this may or may not be up to date and any questions about what is or isn't in the tier should be answered by the tiering list thread. S Rank: S Rank is reserved for Pokemon who are extremely threatening and impact the metagame in a major way. These Pokemon can either fulfill a variety of roles or are superlative in performing one task on a team. Aerodactyl (Mega) Clefable Sharpedro (Mega) A Ranks: A Rank Pokemon are the bread-and-butter of the tier, usually filling most roles in a team in the most efficient way the tier can offer. They will easily fit into a team and often define the style of play. They are not as overwhelming a presence as S Rank Pokemon but will almost always perform well. A+ Rank Azumarill Beedrill (Mega) A Rank Alakazam Breloom Mew Primarina Slowbro (Mega) Starmie Staraptor Terrakion Weavile A- Rank Gliscor Hippowdon Hydreigon Klefki Swampert Volcanion Latias Victini Empoleon Alolan Muk Alolan Ninetales Krookodile Buzzwole B Ranks: B Rank Pokemon are less easily able to slot into a team as A Rank Pokemon, but are still able to fill a role well and be a presence in the right team. Pokemon which may be slightly outperformed by higher ranks but nonetheless still fit well, and Pokemon which have a threatening but small niche may be in this rank. B+ Rank Cobalion Absol (Mega) Blastoise (Mega) Infernape Raikou Tentacruel B Rank Amoonguss Azelf Blissey Celebi Decidueye Froslass Gastrodon Nidoking Reuniclus Suicune Togekiss Tsareena Forretress Zygarde (10%) B- Rank Alomomola Bewear Conkeldurr Doublade Entei Kyurem Mantine Magneton Mienshao Nidoqueen Slowbro Slowking Stoutland Swellow Talonflame Whimsicott C Ranks: C Rank Pokemon have notable niches in the metagame, but usually require significant support. These Pokemon face competition for their roles from the higher ranked Pokemon, but can find still find use. Medicham (Mega) to S I mentioned Mega Medicham here already, but if it doesn't get quick banned, it needs to be added somewhere. Bisharp A- to A I think Bisharp deserves better than A-. I've had success using it as a sweeper / wallbreaker with Life Orb and Swords Dance, but it also comes in handy for punishing Defog users or acting as emergency priority against fast threats. Having the ability to spam Knock Off and frighten Clefable with Iron Head are nice too. --- Post updated --- Mega Pidgeot, Mega Steelix, and Mega Audino may be worth mentioning as well, but I haven't tried or seen them yet.
Has anyone had experience using Passimian? It's like a Bisharp with more speed and bulk, a higher damage STAB, U-Turn, less weaknesses, and more varied coverage.
What seperates Passimian and Bisharp is the difference in typing and the more utility that Bisharp offers. Bisharps dark typing is good for checking Psychic types while also being able to trap them with Pursuit. Stab Knock Off has great utility while a strong priority stab in Sucker Punch is also good. It's steel typing also helps it deal very good damage to the likes of Clefable (a premier threat in this tier). The added ability of trapping Latias is nice, while also acting as a deterrent for defog. Passimian on the other hand is outclassed by Terrakion and Breloom has a fighting type, as they are both stronger, have multiple stabs, and either outclass it in ability (Breloom) or speed stat (Terrakion)
Remove Keldeo, Rotom-W, Bisharp, and Tangrowth, since they moved up. Done. New drops that need placing: Mandibuzz, Mamoswine, and Xurkitree (banned). Other New Additions that need placing: Mega Pidgeot, Mega Heracross, Mega Houndoom, Mega Swampert, and Mega Sceptile due to mega stones being released. Mamoswine to A Mamoswine is a nice Life Orb attacker with STAB Earthquake, Icicle Crash, and Ice Shard, and it has access to Knock Off as well. It can also be a Stealth Rock setter if needed. There's not much that wants to switch into it. I need to play with / against the others a bit more before commenting on them.
