Similiar what Serebii and Regileague have, a league similiar to the anime. 8 gym leaders and 4 elite members who specialize in 3-3 mono-teams. I helped create the one on Serebii and with a little bit of work the rewards can be massive. These forums could do with more activity rather than just coming here to report bugs.

I think this would be better if left until after the full release, when most of the bugs will have been squashed.

Still, it's not a bad idea.

If it happens, you know where to look for Steel+Psychic. I'm obviously up for this.

Sure we can do something far more interesting than simple type (or dual type) gyms, which can be very easily counterteamed (unless you have overly complex restrictive rules) and require little imagination to work. I'd be up for helping to set up a much more challenging kind of league, one which makes you learn very different playstyles for each battle, and one that takes an excellent player to beat.

Well a site I was on previously used a different gym system that based it on themes rather than types. For example, the Desert Gym was all Pokemon that would be in a desert (our leader used a Sandstorm team with Hippo and Cacturne) and the Urban Gym was specifically Poison and Electric types. The problem was, to stay in theme with the game, we didn't let anyone but the E4 use psuedos, nobody could use legendaries at all, and our Champion was an Ash team. :/

Yea, competitively that's kinda.. a joke. If you had something like this:

Mono Gym (both players must use a mono type team)
    OU Gym
    UU Gym
    NU Gym
    Ubers Gym
    Doubles Gym
Lawless Gym (no rules, no sleep clause, no bans. StreetPKMN basically.)
Mirror Gym (two matches with teams of the leader's choice, one with the challenger's team.)

with a good E4 (E4 members would be selected from those who could beat the gyms, and would be able to chose their own rules within reason), it would make players have to think differently for each gym. They would have to actually be pretty skilled at a large variety of metagames, and the gym leaders would be very hard to counterteam.

Well, I probably won't be good enough, but if I could eventually "pass" for a league or something, I'll take Fire or rock. And if it does end up being mono typed gyms, don't mono type matches have a rule where you can bring at least 2 "wild cards?" That would keep a team from being walled too easily. Or, going with Eric's idea, I could go with NU.

Assuming something like this does happen eventually. It's unrealistic while something's in its beta phase to establish something like this, but that's been established xD.

That would be really really nice idea, but i know it's really hard to battle so many people, I were gym leader before (Psychic, Dark and Fighting - Each Time with only one kind.) and it's really hard to battle so many guys, and here there is about 200 people always in the server, so the gym leader would have really hard time.

I suggest that will be more then one gym leader for each gym.

You can also build a scripts for gym leaders - !<Tag Name> <Enemy Name> will let them challenge the next gym leader, if you challenge gym leader into gym match (which could be a option in the battle menu) and you haven't complete the previous gym\Elite, The challenge invite will fail. (of course it just an idea.)

And last thing - If happens, you know who to look for gym leader :)

    GL with the idea~

Eric's is a good idea, and I support it. I also think the league should fluctuate - if someone does not want to be a leader or an E4 anymore, we test other candidates. Also, the champion should be "current" - that is, if you beat the champ, you're now the champ and he's not, and if they beat you, you're not the champ anymore and you have to go through the E4 to challenge him again if you want to take your title back, etc. That might actually make people want to take part in the league, so it's not forgotten with time.

As for the structure, even with the more "classic" option, there are people who really can make monotype teams that handily beat OU teams - me and some friends of mine even used to ladder with mono teams, and I daresay that getting to 1300+ on smogon ladder with teams like that is NOT easy, and requires good teambuilding skills. Still, I guess it would be hard to find enough people who could actually do it and build a proper league.

I have no problems if it's done either way, and I still would like to be a part of it (preferably doing the mono one ^^)

Great idea, this could make everything funnier ^^
Also agree with Gold, the champ should be the one who beat the previous champion

About the Gym leaders, they should be changed every some amount of time, because many players probably want to do the gym leader

I'm here for mono type gym leader^^

Gym leaders would not have a permanent role, if their win/loss record (all battles would have to be reported on forum) or activity dropped below a certain level we would start looking for replacements.

You can beat an ok OU player using a mono team, but you're fighting an uphill battle and a decent player who sets out to make an anti mono team is likely to tear you apart most of the time.

A script would be cool, but probably not required. If this gets approved I could put together an explanation of the functions which would be helpful.

Not sure whether to make it so you have to beat each gym in turn, that is fairly restrictive. Will probably have some restrictions, like each gym requires at least a certain number of badges, but not enough to force linearity.

And gym leaders would only be picked one I (or someone else if they are running it) have seen them play a fair amount in the relevant metagame, ideally against the other candidates for that gym.

There would be some way to revise the rules for a gym, likely by vote of all current gym leaders.

I think this would be a cool thing to put on the lost of things to do. It seems like we have enough activity on the server to pull it off, and it could end up attracting more. We just need to get people to the forums. And I'd try to become a position, since everyone else is saying it :D

This definitely sounds like a fun idea, but I'm wondering if the battles would be more or less organized. Sure, every fight gets recorded, but is there, say, one battle a day per person? Or can you challenge a leader constantly until you win?

Regardless, I'd like to be a sub-in position, hopefully for the NU gym leader spot. I think I'm good, but I know I'm not very commited.

I think there may be a point that has yet to be considered. Before people start having a go at me, I haven't thoroughly read through the other posts, so please forgive me if I'm about to say something stupid. But hasn't anybody considered how unbelieveably easy the Gyms would be to beat? No offence to the Leader's-to-be, but with a clear idea of what type of Pokemon the Leader will be using, plus the fact that people will simply tell other people what Pokemon the Leader uses, it would be extremely difficult for a leader to win a match against an experienced player.
Also, while I respect Gold immensely, the idea of the person who beats the Champion becoming the Champion is, quite frankly, shaky at best. The best of trainers can lose through hax-moreover, I'm pretty sure that right now, the best player on PO in OU at least is Japanese, and does not speak English. Will we need translators for Champions...?

If this idea does go through, then I would be very grateful to try out for the position of Grass or Dark type Gym Leaders =)

The type thing has been discussed a bit, and most people decided that it would be better to have less specific themes (mentioned were things like urban, desert, and tier-based teams).

Besides, I would expect the Elite 4 to be harder than the leaders anyway. With the Elite 4 and a Champion at the end, winning th matches solely on luck wouldn't be very likely, and even if it did happen, a former Champion who thinks they could win could beat the current Champ if that person won on luck.

I'd like to know how the Elite 4 would be organized. Obviously the best are towards the end, but what kind of themes/systems could they use? Would they use ones similar to the Gym Leaders, or would they use normal OU teams? Now that I've thought of this...there are four members of the E4, and four different weather conditions. Perhaps they could run weather teams, and challengers would have to use the same team while going through? That could be very challenging.

The Elite Four would certainly be tougher, yes.
The weather system idea is certainly a very interesting one. I imagine that Sunny Day would be first, then Hail, then Sandstorm and then Rain (just based on personal experience). If this was the case, then I would absolutely LOVE to be the Sunny Day wielder-although I'd settle for Sandstorm too XD.

If the weather idea was implemented, there would have to be someone who made sure that the challenger's team didn't change. This would have to be a member of the auth, as battles against the Elite Four would probably be best if spectators were disallowed.
Oh, and I would so kick ass as the hail E4 member. Just saying.

The problem with having a weather E4 is that you'd need to have a team that can easily counter all four of the weathers. Whilst this is difficult to do for obvious reasons (and it'd force most teams to have various weather abusers and/or TTar, Hippo and Abomasnow), the Champion could then make a team to easily counter most Pokemon able to get through all 4 weather teams and keep his title. So whilst it is a clever idea, I don't think it'd work.
Did I mention that I'd kick ass with hail?

Golduck could ruin some teams, however gimmicky he is outside of his ability.

Wouldn't it also work if the Champ could only have title matches with his E4 team? That would solve the problem, I would think.

Perhaps if this were to be implemented we should have "tryouts" instead of just assigning whomever asked first.

Can I ask you guys to read the rest of the topic (sleuth and Cthulhu seem to have missed important things), specifically my most recent two posts, before suggesting things which have already been thought of and thinking of problems for which solutions have already been found?

Was the only thing mentioned about selection, and that isn't very clear at all. So a leader can only be selected once you watch them play a few battles in their respective metagame? I think having the potential candidates battle other candidates for the positions they want while monitored by someone who can judge a fight would be best. It shouldn't only be based on the win though, if someone truly does outplay the other but gets unluckily frozen, critted, etc. Then the person that outplayed is obviously the better candidate.

And maybe the gyms don't have to be monotype, but the core of the team has to be respective of their gym type. For example, in the bug gym, maybe 3 of the 6 pokemon are bug, and the other 3 help counter a fire, and flying type.

Having candidates play eachother is not necessary (though it could happen alongside other tests), a better way to judge a person's skill is to watch them play "a fair amount in the relevant metagame" (not a just few battles). A candidate may match up poorly against another, but still be the better player overall. And as I have said, your initial assumption (that we would give a post to whoever asks first), is not the plan. So don't worry, the players would be selected for battling ability.

And semi-monotype still has huge problems, and is not particularly hard to counterteam (less than full mono, but the gym leaders will always have a significant disadvantage). A metagame specific set of gyms would be much more challenging and interesting to play against, and there is no shortage of people willing to play the role of gym leaders for each metagame. I see no reason to be attached to the ingame/anime concept of gyms being tied to types.
