Hello everyone, I decided to make a new guide for the Windows client because @JoyFrost forced me to do it I figured the previous one was really old and not very detailed, so let's start! Teambuilding After opening your Pokémon Online application you will be presented to the server selection page. In this guide I will use the default PO theme, but you can make it look cooler by downloading a different theme which you can find here. Now you need to choose a server, here we will just go to the official Pokémon Online server. Just insert your name and double click on the server to connect. After joining a server you will see the main channel, in our case Tohjo Falls. The first thing you should do is click the Register button to make sure nobody else will steal your name, then type /rules and read them to make sure you won't break them. Other useful commands will be explained throughout the guide, but you can type /commands to see a list of other things you can do. On the left you will see a list of online players paired with a type of Pokéball. A red Pokéball means the player is active and able to receive challenges, a grey Pokéball means the player is inactive and will automatically reject challenges, while a blue Pokéball means the player is already battling. Great, Ultra and Master ball mean the player is a Moderator, Administrator or Owner respectively, and those are the users you should probably go for if you need any help. You can see a list of them by typing /auth in the chat. Now the reason why you're here is most likely to battle, so let's start building our team! Click File on the top menu and then Open Teambuilder, alternatively you can press Ctrl + O. This is the Teambuilder. On the left you can customize your profile by changing the color of your name, your avatar, your trainer info and the messages other people will receive when you lose or win a battle. Your trainer info is what everyone will see when clicking on your name, it can be very simple but if you want to make something really cool you can follow Cirno's guide. Remember to click Save Profile when you're done! Now to start building your team just click on one of the Missignos. Click on the big question mark to choose your Pokemon. If you want a specific forme for example Rotom's just click on Alternate Formes and pick the one you want to use. Here you can also make your pokemon shiny, and once you've chosen your pokemon click Change Species. Now you can put everything from the nickname to moves, nature, EVs and IVs. If you want to make a pokemon mega evolve give it its appropriate mega stone and a mega evolve button will appear in battle! We also offer the possibility to play with Hackmons, which means you can give any move or ability as if they were obtained in game by hacking. Obviously by choosing to play in this format you will only face other people using hackmons and not people who want to play regularly. To enable hackmons go to Options and check Show Illegal. Click here to read more about hackmons. You can also import an already existing team that you might have found somewhere else or received from a friend. To do so just select Team and then Import Team, and paste the importable version of your team. To receive the importable of your own team you will need to type /importable in the main chat. You can make a team for different generations, but keep in mind that the most played tiers use the Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire generation. Tiers are basically groups in which pokemon are divided depending on their usage, the most common ones are ORAS OU and ORAS Ubers but if you're tired of facing the same pokemon over and over you can try lower tiers as well. Click here for an updated list of our tiers! Once you've finished building your team give it a name and press the save icon next to it. You can have up to 6 teams loaded at the same time but you can save as many as you want, just use the load button next to the save one to load a different team. Now click File > Save All and click X Close to get back to the server. All we need to do now is to pick the tier you want to play in, you can do so from the Tiers option in the top menu or typing /changetier [tier]. Both work but the former is recommended. You can also try our fun tiers Challenge Cup and Battle Factory which will automatically provide you a randomly generated team, just try them out and find the one you enjoy the most. We're finally ready to start our very first battle! Battling Click the Find Battle button to quickly start a battle against a random player on the server. If that takes too long you can try and challenge a player who has a red Pokéball: right click on their name and press Challenge, but if they decline don't keep bothering them! When challenging someone you might find someone who has multiple teams loaded as well. Choose the tier you want to challenge them to from the list next to their name, and pick the team you want to use from the ones you have loaded. On the right you can set the clauses (if you don't know what they are click the spoiler below) and change the battle format to Doubles or Triples. When you're ready, click Challenge. Spoiler: What are clauses? Clauses are basically restrictions or particular rules which will be applied to the battle, here is what each of them does: Sleep Clause*: No more than one Pokémon on each team can be put to sleep at the same time. Freeze Clause: No more than one Pokémon on each team may be frozen at the same time. Disallow Spectators: Prevents other players from spectating the battle. Item Clause: There cannot be two or more Pokémon in each team holding the same item. Challenge Cup: Players will be given a team consisting of random Pokémon with random moves, items and stats. No Timeout: There will be no timer in the battle, meaning players will be free to take as much time as they want. Species Clause*: No more than one Pokémon with the same Pokédex number may be put on the same team. Team Preview*: Players are allowed to see each other's team before the battle starts. Self-KO Clause*: If both player's last Pokémon faint in the same turn, the battle will not end in a tie but the winner will be decided depending on how the Pokémon fainted. Inverted Battle: Type effectiveness is reversed, meaning Fire will be supereffective against Water and weak to Grass and so on. Click here to see the full type chart for Inverted Battle. Clauses with an asterisk are enabled in ladder battles. If they accept your challenge, or if you find a battle against a random opponent, the Battle Window will pop up. You can customize some aspects of your battle window in the Battle Options from the top menu. Now if Team Preview is enabled you will have the possibility to change the Pokémon that will be sent out first, just swap it with the first Pokémon in your party. To battle simply click moves or go to Pokémon if you want to switch to another Pokémon. If you hold your cursor on a move or a Pokémon you will see some information about them. If your Pokémon holds a Mega Stone you will also see the Mega Evolve button and it will mega evolve at the start of the next turn. If when clicking Find Battle you checked Force Rated Battle you will receive or lose points depending on the result of the battle. At the beginning of the battle you will see a message telling you how many points you will gain/lose, for example Variation: +17, -15. To see your ranking and total points in a tier type /ranking in the main chat, while to see the complete ladder right click on your name and View Ranking. Other But battling isn't everything PO has to offer! You can just chat with people and make new friends, you can even start a private conversation with someone by right clicking their name and clicking Send Message. We have multiple channels where you can discuss of the most various topics or create your own: you will see a list of existing channels by clicking Channels on top of the player list on the left, but you can also join a channel by typing /cjoin [name of the channel] in the main chat. If there is no existing channel with that name a new channel will be created, and you can make it yours by typing /register. After that have a look at /commands channel to see what else you can do. We have other official side channels where you can play different games, which are #Hangman, #Trivia, #Mafia and #Safari. We also have a #Tournaments channel where tournaments will start regularly in various tiers, just try them out to see which channel fits you best! That's all, I hope the guide was clear enough and that you will keep having fun playing Pokémon Online, thanks for reading!
