LOL my first strategies were 'ensure that every pokemon on team has a move that is super effective against all of its weaknesses'.
hmm my first not entirely gimmicky team was defiantly a short pass team using ninjask and later gorebyss.
Back on PokeLab, towards the tail end of Gen 4, I ran a half decent noob TR team. Banette/Uxie/Exeggutor/Octillery/Marowak/Camerupt. I remember my Marowak ran Outrage ._.
I started out playing t-spikes stall in UU. With stuff like regirock. Simply put, it didn't work well.
For some reasons I used to hate rain and sand teams which dominated OU because of Drizzle/Swift Swim and Sand Stream/Sand Rush synergies, so I spent some time building a very stupid anti-weather team with a Power Herb/Solar Beam Ninetales (who was intented to Solar Beam Ttar and Politoed as they switched in) and a Choice Scarf Golduck because it gets Cloud Nine (an awesome ability assigned to awful Pokemons). Of course my team was really weak, but it was one of my first teambuilding experiments and I enjoyed a lot playing with it.
i had a lot of stupid ideas when i was a noobie, my first team was pretty much a smash pass gorybess and some other random stuff like dragon dance charizard, those were the good days :3
When I first played PO, all of my Stats would end in 100 like 100,200,300 etc. I taught Azelf was the best lead at that time. I don't remember my first team fully but I know I use a gallade and whimiscott. I loved gallade from the beggining and i still do. Gallade hasn't failed me yet. :)
I didn't really have a strategy when I first started, I just stuck a bunch of my favorite pokemon (who had horrible synergy together) and called it a team. I also used like 4 STAB moves on each pokemon, and didn't know about physical/special splits, haha. Good times. :3
I went to Smogon and picked stuff like kid in a candy store. My first try was some kind of stall team put together from the sets there. Of course that would have demanded most prediction for success so it wasn't a bright idea. On top of that even though none of the pokes except maybe wobuffet&sigilyph is horrible on its own, together these six are simply an awful set. Spoiler Wobbuffet (F) @ Leftovers Trait: Shadow Tag EVs: 200 Def / 56 SDef / 252 Spd Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk) - Encore - Counter - Mirror Coat - Safeguard Politoed (F) @ Leftovers Trait: Drizzle EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Spd Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk) - Scald - Hypnosis - Protect - Perish Song Sigilyph (F) @ Flame Orb Trait: Magic Guard EVs: 252 HP / 200 Def / 56 Spd Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk) - Cosmic Power - Stored Power - Roost - Psycho Shift Tentacruel (F) @ Leftovers Trait: Rain Dish EVs: 252 HP / 240 Def / 16 Spd Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk) - Toxic Spikes - Rapid Spin - Scald - Protect Blissey (F) @ Leftovers Trait: Natural Cure EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Spd Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk) - Stealth Rock - Softboiled - Toxic - Water Pulse Skarmory (F) @ Leftovers Trait: Sturdy EVs: 252 HP / 232 Def / 24 Spd Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk) - Roost - Spikes - Whirlwind - Brave Bird[/HIDE]
Terrakion/Jellicent/Ferrothorn/Chandelure/Cloyster/something else was my first team. It was amazingly fun to play with. Still is.
I built a random team of my favorite pokemon all the way back in 2005 while I was on Netbattle. I can't remember what I used specifically.
I used some pokémons that i considered powerfull (gyarados, jolteon, gengar, forretres, charizard, alakazam) and i made a team that was pretty competitiive...i want to take it back for testing with better evs and movesets...it was nice..
Who doesn't start out like this? Offense will always be able to draw players in, noob or not. My most successful team back on Shoddy was Aero/Jolteon/Flygon/Starmie/Infernape/Scizor. Flygon was of course Scarfed, Ape had Mach Punch, and Scizor had Quick Attack. My strategy was to outspeed the opponent and keep the pressure on so that they couldn't get anything going, which is why all the Pokes were either blazing fast or had powerful priority. I don't think I need to mention that this team was completely flattened by stall, though. I started playing competitively the week Mence was banned, so I was still a scrub at the time. From the looks of it, I'd say that I would have thoroughly enjoyed VoltTurn...
I remember when I first played Pokemon Pearl; in the Battle Tower (Doubles section) I used a Sun Team consisting of Exeggutor holding a Heat Rock, and Moltres holding a Power Herb (with Solarbeam)as my two leads. I also I remember finding out that Breloom could learn Spore as an Egg Move, and that Shroomish learned it at Level 45. It took me a few hours to hatch a Shroomish with the correct moveset. These events occured a long time ago; when I only played Pokemon for fun. Now I'm not fond of 'Weather' teams; as they are very popular, and one 'Weather' team is a good counter to another 'Weather' team.
