Snore-lax on NB: Curse-Snore-Rock Slide-Rest or sth like that Beat up Brelooms everyday, and one day I lost against a counter bliss ~.~ Later I used that on SB until I realized Snore is special...shame...
First time I only used my starter and nothing else =3 and pawnt everything. Then i realized how underused charizard was -_-"
heh my first battle and my first strategy eh ? well, when i joined i was eager to try out doubles, but seeing how pro the trainers here actually were, i decided to think of a strategy perhaps the simplest strategy of all i had a metagross and a wailord, whenever metagross was about to die, i used explosion and made wailord use protect it gave me a nice win ratio :3
God, I remember my first sets. They're too embarrassing to describe here, but let's just say I used some very unconventional Electrode sets.
I think we all did the in-game "IT'S A FIRE TYPE, IT NEEDS 4 FIRE MOVES!" thing on Red/Blue/Green/Yellow. I know I did - Charizard had Fire Blast, Flamethrower, Fire Spin and Slash. Fuck knows how I learned how to not suck. My first competitive team... ADV was where I started, although I learned RBY and GSC after that. I wasn't too bad to start off with - I had learned a lot since Pokemon Red. I'll slap the exported team from NB in a secret tab - it's not a bad team. Highlights include SubSuicune and Calm Mind Blissey - and I used a variation of this team for about 3 years. It served me very, very well. I'm actually quite shocked at how decent my first team actually was - I didn't end up with a Hyper Beam Gyarados or a Focus Punch Blissey. [secret]Salamence (F) @ Leftovers Trait: Intimidate EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd Lonely Nature (+Atk, -Def) - Dragon Dance - Earthquake - Hidden Power [Flying] - Rock Slide Starmie @ Leftovers Trait: Natural Cure EVs: 4 Atk / 252 Spd / 252 SAtk Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk) - Psychic - Recover - Surf - Thunderbolt Blissey (F) @ Leftovers Trait: Natural Cure EVs: 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 SAtk Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk) - Calm Mind - Ice Beam - Softboiled - Thunderbolt Heracross (M) @ Salac Berry Trait: Guts EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk) - Brick Break - Megahorn - Rock Slide - Swords Dance Rhydon (M) @ Choice Band Trait: Rock Head EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 6 Def Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk) - Double-Edge - Earthquake - Megahorn - Rock Slide Suicune @ Leftovers Trait: Pressure EVs: 252 HP / 16 Def / 128 Spd / 114 SAtk Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk) - Calm Mind - Ice Beam - Substitute - Surf [/secret] For 4th Gen... well, I can't get to my first team, but I know it was back when Wobbuffet was still allowed in OU.
11 years a go when I first got Pokemon Blue, I had mega punch Blastoise which was so pro. When I got Pokemon Silver, I had Zap Cannon Snorlax. Good times :D
I actually learnt to battle decently early on using Pokemon stadium as a rough guide. My favourite (and obviously broken) pokemon on there was a Mewtwo with Psychic, Fire Blast, Thunder and Blizzard. Thankfully I've learnt that power isn't everything since then. My first competitive battle was in gen 4. I tried a BP Gliscor to pass SD and Agility to Gallade. I can say that it was decent, but the rest of the team was pretty iffy.
Holy crap Oak, this is one good team for a beginner... Lonely Salamence? lol. I remember when I was playing Silver with my cut/surf/strength/whirlpool level 81 feraligatr trying hard to beat the league. But yeah this summer when I started competitive battling, I was using Scarf Togekiss, Adamant Choice Band Salamence (well, Outrage hitted hard), Rest+Lum Swampert (I was raging when opponent burned me or something), Trick Room Macho Brace Bronzong, Aerodactyl (With Whirlwind.) and LEAD JOLTEON
My emerald pokémon level 100 moves: Kingdra: Hydro Pump, Surf, Waterfall, Ice Beam Ampharos: Thunder Wave, Thunder, Thunderbolt, Thundershock Swampert: Muddy Water, Rock Tomb, Earthquake, Return Blaziken: Blaze Kick, Slash, Mirror Move, Sky Uppercut Sceptile: Slam, Leaf Blade, Dragon Claw, Brick Break. I have even more fails in Emerald... All ev's are fail too. (Physical Sceptile) GO BEGINNING FTW. Also, I was angry when I started. Noland wouldn't battle my gym. So I got my marshtomp to level 18. He still wouldn't. I thought I could thrash him with my stomp.
You think that was crazy, try Thunder/Thunderbolt/Thundershock/Flash Pikachu in Pokemon Yellow. It was awsome... Until I ran into Geo's Nidoqueen.
My first Pokemon was my level 100 Venusaur from Blue, with Cut / Razor Leaf / Mega Drain / Solar Beam. Good times.
Before I started competitive battling, the only strategies I used were Frenzy Plant, Blast Burn, and Hydro Cannon. Basically hammer 'em until they die.
first was something like hyper offense. had a team of lucario, salamence, infernape, gengar, tyranitar and azelf. worked pretty well actually. as for in-game, i just chose fast powerful attacker like infernape and charizard. still ramins my play style to this date!
Started when DP came out. Had a Scarf Empoleon, DD Dragonite, and other stuff I don't remember. I also popularized the use of Choice Scarf Garchomp. And even raped like every single of my opponents with DD Gyarados with Substitute. (People were really bad at that time)
I think my first strategy was gravity abuse. I was trying to prove that Gravity is very underrated and can bring gamebreaking changes. At the time, I was using Jirachi, Starmie, Blissey, Metagross, Dusknoir (MVP by far) and Gyara IIRC (Gyara might not fit into gravity, but it can abuse it somewhat with Earthquake making rotom and zapdos susceptible to EQ)
My first lead was a Dusknoir lead lol. In-game, I always used 4 attacking moves on everything. The first non-attacking move I had throughout my entire playthrough was probably my Toxic Spikes Roserade in my first Diamond run through. Competitively, I started a little bit after the Garchomp banning in DPP. My first team was complete crap, copying and pasting random Pokemon from Smogon. I got destroyed my first battle and decided to reinvent my philosophy. I thought it was a good idea to have some sort of strategy to build my team around, and I was always one to like under-appreciated things, so my first semi-successful team was a Hail team. Abomasnow, Bronzong, Heatran, Walrein, Glaceon, and Kingdra (for some reason lol). I molded my Hail team into a pretty good team, before I got bored of it and decided to work on something else. I guess, because of that, I've always used weather teams to more success than non-weather teams.
my friend introduced competitive pokemon to me by suggesting me use a 6x choice band explosion team it worked pretty well in gen 4
My first strategy was to counter stuff... I had fakeout last resort ambipom, mix hustle togekiss with Espeed, and last but not least, scarf aerodactyl, because it outsped gyara after a DD :3
Until I found netbattle all i did was throw together ubers with my friends in RSE... then i learned what an "uber was when no one wanted to battle me cuz i was paked with ubers online... then I learned what ev's was < which revolutionalized how me and my friends played... I mean who knew Kyogre couls have 299 Speed :3... Then it was all uphill from there slowly forgetting everythign i thought i knew to give way to Internet pro's kicking my ass all over the place... I remember the days when Milotic was Pro :/ Btw anyone else Tackled their way to victory with Caterpie against Brock's Onix in RBY... I went STR8 to butterfree after all that exp XD... started off with charmander :x
Lol, on Red I started with Charmander, but Brock got Mankey'd. On Yellow it was difficult though, I had to train Pikachu to lvl 20 and Quick Attack it to death.
I still Baton Pass for a living using Ninjask. I think Baton Pass Blaziken is banned, though, or else I would be passing from him too. My team can really troll after +6Atk and +6Spd. Also, Stealth Rock isn't a problem at all for me, if I taunt the Stealth Rocker using a Misc. Heart'er. Then, I thunder wave the Stealth Rocker and wait until I die or they switch, allowing me to status the next Pokemon.
My first strategy was Uxie setting up dual screen, then use Yawn and Memento, which made the opponent either asleep and weakened or just weakened. Then BD Linoone comes out and sweeps. After I found myself stopped by steels too much I made another team around trick room Clamperl. :)
My Squirtle used Tackle and Tail Whip. Competitively I think Scarf Tentacruel. No one ever saw it coming!
Well my first team was a fail SS team in gen 4 OU. On my first battle ever(on shoddy) I was Flinched 9 times in a row by a lead Aerodactyle that didn't use SR -.- I proceeded to RQ and drop shoddy for a week. I quickly moved onto UU, where I had something like Cradily, Ursaring, Magmortar, Gorebyss(agility BP), Flail Leafeon and soemthing.
My first Strategy was to use my favorite pokes with every attack posible, I used Tunderbolt in my luxray and a mixed lucario and my sleep Gardevoir, it was very good, but always leaded by my persian, I even used him competitively as a Lead in OU (Think about how that went)
this was my second team onward. first team was zong(borrowed from someone who likely leechedfrom smogon), blast burn ape, mixed flygon and kingdra both had dragonbreath flygon also had FLY, sunnybeam typhlosion, and luxray (special). cyndaquil owns you with that set except swap tail whip for it's clone leer. (in crystal)
I still copy smogon sets... They are pretty good and I cba running calcs all the time. I also remember 4 electric moves on Ampharos, FocusPunch Swampert and BlackGlasses Faint Attack Sudowoodo. It beat the Pike Queen Lucy...
I read Smogon on various other sites and read about/watched the game for many months before actually playing it myself. I quickly realized many of the movesets and EV spreads were outdated and no longer as good as they could be and from there on out I started making all of my teams and spreads myself and seeing what happened. Early on I saw myself as an extremely aggressive player in any game, not just Pokemon, so I figured an aggressive and hard hitting team would best fit my personal play style and preferences, so that was my starting point.
Trick Room / Stealth Rock / Rapid Spin + some other move on a Claydol. Half-trick-room team, half-hail team, with overlaps. Taunts and Tricks were terrible to me :( NU/UU/OU combined lol
Omg, i remember my first competitive days on PO. My team wasn't bad either, but it were like "4 attacks" sets for my pokemons, and yeah it failed so much again stall teams. - Mamoswine with Earthquake, Stone edge, Icicle Crash and attract: actually was a good leader, but facepalm for the attract thingy... - Volcarona with Overheat, Bug buzz, Hurricane, Morning Sun: good too, but at the time i didnt understand why overheat was so weak at the second consecutive turn (fail at dont see the -2 spe.attack) and I raged so much when hurricane failed (fail at accuracy... XD) - Zapdos with thunderbolt, Fly (omg...), heat wave, roost - Terrakion with Close Combat, Stone Edge, Earthquake, Giga impact (!): but at least he taked out some opponents - Kingdra with Draco Meteor, Surf, Ice Beam, Protect i think - Shiftry with Leaf Storm, Foul Play, Focus Blast, Morning Sun: no need to explain it was so bad on OU Omg...
