Pretty self explanatory~ When you started your quest to become a competitive Pokémon master, who/what strategies did you choose? i personally started off with a Ninjask baton passing to a Gallade with Close Combat, Night Shade, Ice punch and Leaf Blade. Netted me a decent win-loss ratio, and gave me a good first impression of the whole competitive battling thing. Until I realized what Stealth Rock was. Discuss :3
I used Reversal Heracross in ADV, it was so good if there was no Ttar, sadly after that I realized there were too many Ttar around. Old days, good memories ^^
Well, I joined competitive battling rather late, so Trick Room was, IIRC, my first-ever team. :P And I never felt the full depth of how inexperienced I was until I realized I had given my Shell Break Cloyster a Choice Band. XD
Mixed sweepers everywhere. My first team EVER (on NetBattle I was 10) Mixed Claydol Mixed Dnite (with Outrage lol, in 3g) Mixed Marowak MixMence Mixed Metagross Mixed Gyarados One word. Pro.
This. My friend told me to do so. When I found out that over half of their sets doesn't work much, I reinvented myself.
Let's see Endure Reversal Blaziken was a Win in gen 3 Ou then Tyranitar started spoiling things, I dont even think thats a viable strategy anymore... I'm a more defensive battler but I had a Ninjask to LO Heatran for a while but that got Pwned so i just went into the monotonous Flygon Scoutting sets but that's life I dont have a set strategy right now but Speed Boost Blaziken FTW!!
I remember using a BellyZard with Substitute. It rarely worked, but when I got to pull it off, there were many casualties. Oh, and an Encore Machamp. I was amazed how many people would try to set up on him only to get screwed over. It was glorious. There was even a time I ran ScarfChamp. That was rather fun. But nothing compares to: Toxicroak @ Black Sludge Ability: Dry Skin Nature: Impish (+Def/-SpA) EVs: 252 HP/252 Def/4 Spe Bulk Up Poison Jab Rain Dance Sucker Punch Been using this thing for 2+ years and it still manages to sweep teams. No one ever expects this.
I used a LEafeon with flail . WAS okay . ANd my lead was a SD weavile ! man that was awesome . My oppenents just SR up while SD .I always get +4 or +6 early and have swept like 20+ teams with it? ANd also I used a stall ludicolo which was awesome . EVs were MAX hp and 100 def 152 sp.def MOVes- -Toxic -RAin dance -protect -leech seed ( WIth rain dish and protect dude FTW !! IT restores a hell amount of HP each turn . DOnt know how it will work now though
Oh, I remember in the battle factory for me. I thought this Gyarados was good: Fire Blast Hydro Pump Thunderbolt Blizzard
Munchlax @ Leftovers Ability:Thick Fat Sassy Nature (+Special Defense,-Speed) EV's:252 Special Defense/150 HP/108 Attack Curse Return Zen headbutt Ice Punch Mini-Curselax.I used this in OU during my earlier days of battling. It was actually quite successful.
Even before NetBattle, I was only training my starters and legendaries, considering other pokemon to be bad. So my Yellow first team : -Level 82 Pikachu -Level 75 Mewtwo The rest are HM slaves.
When playing my gameboy, all my pokémon had to ONLY have attacking moves. I considered others rubbish.
When I first started to play it was like this ..... Sceptile and Salamence faint...I lost. 4th Gen I had a pretty decent team Machamp,Scizor,Heatran,Gyarados,Electivire and Garchomp. That was my first team , then electivire turned into poop
RSE Baton Pass team with Zen Headbutt Metagross as the recipient (yes, I know the problem here). And an eeveelution BP team.
I used to throw a team together of all my favorite kickass Pokemon with balanced EVs and a bunch of attacking moves ;( I really wish that worked out better. I used to think that Swords Dance raised attack by exactly 2 points.
The Offensive was(and is) my strategy, using Swords Dance Lucario and Choice Specs Salamence, i use Offensive Teams because i found stall boring, and Rain/Ice Teams aren't my style, i prefer shorts and fun battles, and not a long and boring one.
Well i had skamory as a lead... and um.. iirc dusknoir for last. I had dragonite, Breloom, vaporeon and i don't remember the last pokemon, maybe it was aracnine. ;_; (skam, beloom, dragonite, vappy, ?, dusknoir) = Order. anyway, this team failed. :3
I remember back when i was a noob at my first battles on smogon i pretty much used pokemons with high att/sp.att stats and always lost..like one team was: weavile gyarados magnezone mamoswine gengar glaceon And this was totally random ._.
I remember at a point my team featuring a Hail Glaceon with Blizzard... some guy made a video of this on youtube... If I find it, I'll post it.
I first started playing competitively in the D/P metagame. My first strategy was complete offense with Special Attacks, kind of like HO, but not really. It lead me to Smogon, where I learned the importance of team synergy and prediction skills.
My first strategy was leading with a Starly with Focus Sash+Endevor+Quick attack, Nijask+Luxray, and a priority sweeper Lucario. Worked very well... Until people discovered the usefulness of Stealth Rock.
Well, I'd spam X Attack / Speeds and Hyper Potions, and then sweep. Competitively, I started late Gen 4 (after Salamence was banned), and I picked random Pokemon. Turns out, CeleTran wasn't that bad.
Think of awesome pokemon, get to serebii POTW and make sets from there. My first team on smogon was a Ninjask baton passing to a metagross or kingdra. =P I owned many noobs there.
I took a few of my favorite Pokemon (coincidentally, the ones I chose were all OU) and gave them Smogon sets.
