[IMG] Attracting & Type Advantage
Possibly the most important rule first: "do not waste your balls". Pokémon types work the same in Safari. Your ~Fire type~ will really struggle in helping to capture a wild ~Water type~, but your ~Fire type~ will help you capture a ~Grass type~. Of course, during a contest with an Inverted Type-Effectiveness rule active, the opposite is true. There is also a higher chance of finding a Pokémon weak to your active Pokémon's types with bait (/bait [ball]).

[IMG] Balls Vs BST
Having a type advantage isn't enough in some cases, however. Even with being at a 2x advantage, a weak ball may still fail. For example, using the cheapest Safari Ball against a 600 BST Garchomp will have a decent chance failing, even if your active Pokémon is a Dragonair. The following is a decent set of guidelines to using the right type of ball, but of course is not perfect:
• [IMG] Safari Ball ~ <250 BST
• [IMG] Great Ball ~ <350 BST
• [IMG] Ultra Ball ~ >350 BST
• [IMG] Master Ball ~ Legendaries / Shinies
• [IMG] Luxury Ball ~ Lead with >4x effectiveness
• [IMG] Quick Ball ~ Increased chance of winning contests.
• [IMG] Heavy Ball ~ >500 BST
• [IMG] Clone Balls ~ Losing during contest and trying to get Scientist costume.
• [IMG] Myth Balls ~ Legendaries / Shinies, if no Master Balls
Great Balls tend to work well most of the time, even when the wild Pokémon is just over 250 BST, they help ensure a capture. Of course, this is all dependent on your active Pokémon and the wild Pokémon.

[IMG] ~ Managing Resources ~
Don't just go and buy a Pokémon or an Item first thing because you really need it. Shop around (/shop user) or wait until you see the Pokémon you want to catch in the wild or contest. The same goes for items, but be patient with using the itemfinder (/finder) daily.

Set a limit. Try to avoid going below $3,000 so you still have enough to buy more balls to help grind the money back up. When you are low on money, focus on capturing Pokémon you have a high chance of capturing, rather than spending. At around $10,000 to $15,000, this is a good time to start spending a little on Gachapon tickets or other items. It's recommended you have at least $5,000 before spending.

[IMG] Buy 10 Get 1 Free
Try and take full advantage of these offers. Buying 10 Safari, Great or Ultra balls at once will net you a Premier Ball, and an extra one is given per 10 you buy. If you're particularly wealthy, you can buy 10 Gachapon tickets and be given an extra in the same manner.

[IMG] ~ Auction ~
Creating an auction (/auction Pokémon/Item:start price:bid increment) is one of the most effective ways of making money if you know how. Here are some key points for a successful auction:
• Scientist Requested Pokémon - These Pokémon are a struggle to get and players will pay a fair price to exchange them for silver coins.
• Start Small - Keep your opening bid low - starting around the Pokémon's BST + 100 money would be a fair starting price.
• Many Players - The more players there are playing, the greater the chance for someone to want to buy your item or Pokémon and bid highly.
[IMG] Getting Stronger
There is a lot more to Safari than just buying, selling and capturing Pokémon. There exists special items that, just by having them in your bag, will have a positive passive effect. Here's a list of them:

Obtained from Gacha
• [IMG] Cell Battery: Increases the daily use of Item Finder by 2. (Caps at 10 Cell Batteries for 20 extra uses, giving you a total of 50 daily. Does not affect Ampere Gems.)
• [IMG] Amulet Coin: Gain an extra 3% profit when selling Pokémon to the NPC. (Caps at 10 Amulet Coins for a maximum boost of 30%.)
• [IMG] Soothe Bell: Reduces delay after a successful catch by 3%. (Caps at 10 Soothe Bells for a maximum reduction of 30%.)
• [IMG] Silk Scarf: Increases the money gained with Luxury Ball captures by 1.5%. (Caps at 10 Silk Scarves for a maximum boost of 15%.)
Obtained from Item Finder
• [IMG] Eviolite: Pokémon with a BST of 420 or less gain an extra 8 BST. (Caps at 10 stones of Eviolite for a maximum boost of 80%.)
• [IMG] Relic Crown: Increases the sale value of pawned off items by 1%. (Caps at 10 Relic Crowns for a maximum boost of 10%.)
• [IMG] Honey: Increases the chance of attracting a wild Pokémon with bait by 3%. (Caps at 10 jars of Honey for a maximum boost of 30%)
It is recommended that you keep a hold of these items for their benefits, even if other players would offer a decent sum of money.

[IMG] Use Rare Candy Wisely
To make sure you are getting the best out of your rare candies, try capturing or buying a rare Pokémon, that is in its second stage of evolution of three. Check the unevolved Pokémon in your box and the BST of their evolutions to make a decision. Some Pokémon only have two evolutionary stages, but can be still be worth evolving.

Some high BST Pokémon are:
• #6 Charizard - 534 BST - Fire/Flying
• #350 Milotic - 540 BST - Water
• #445 Garchomp - 600 BST - Dragon/Ground
• #637 Volcarona - 550 BST - Bug/Fire
Evolving pseudo legendaries and shinies tends to be a good idea. Also, if you're happy with all your Pokémon, you can make money effectively by selling Rare Candies in auctions.

You can earn Candy Dust from Tower with other stuff, even sometimes with Gacha.

[IMG] Prepare for Contests
Try to be ready for them. Having at least 10+ Safari, Great and Ultra Balls is usually a good idea. Be sure to read the contest rules and the effects they have on your active Pokémon, or you could end up wasting your resources with a lot of failed captures. Try to pick a Pokémon that works for most or all three of the themes that can be chosen from. A nerf reduces your capture rate to 0.25x the original, but a buff increases it to 1.3x the original. Buffs and nerfs do not stack, and nerfs take priority.

There are times when there is a BST restriction however. To make sure you have the best Pokémon without too much trouble, use /sort bst:descending to sort the box, and then use /find bst 450 <. Finally, just pick the best type from the first few listed Pokémon.

[IMG] Cooldowns
Be sure to take note of the cooldowns when using balls, especially during contests. A long wait can mean you miss capturing a Pokémon after you capture or fail to capture a Pokémon. Here's the list of Pokéballs and their cooldown times. These are the succeed to catch times, fail times are reduced by half:
• 6 seconds ~ Safari
• 9 seconds ~ Great, Spy, Myth
• 10 seconds ~ Luxury, Premier
• 11 seconds ~ Clone
• 12 seconds. ~ Ultra, Quick, Heavy
• 90 seconds ~ Master

[IMG] Consecutive Daily Bonuses
Being on daily will net you a refreshment of $250 and 1 Safari Ball. Every consecutive day you log on, you will get an extra $25 and 1 extra Safari Ball on top of this. This is limited to 1000 money and 30 Safari Balls a day. For example, on Day 1 you will receive $250 and 1 Safari Ball. Then, on day 2, you will receive $275 and 2 Safari Balls.

But wait, there's more! On certain days, you will receive the following items:
• Day 3 ~ [IMG] Rock/Snowball 5x (25x)
• Day 6 ~ [IMG] Great Ball 8x (25x)
• Day 9 ~ [IMG] Ultra Ball 5x (15x)
• Day 12 ~ [IMG] Bait 10x
• Day 15 ~ [IMG] Rare Candy 1x (2x)
• Day 18 ~ [IMG] Gachapon Ticket x15
• Day 21 ~ [IMG] Luxury Ball 15x
• Day 24 ~ [IMG] Clone Ball 5x
• Day 27 ~ [IMG] Gachapon Ticket 30x
• Day 31 ~ [IMG] Master Ball x1
The amounts in the brackets are the extra rewards after 32 days. The current consecutive days will be remembered but the new rewards will repeat every 32 days until you break the chain. For example: A total of 33 days is day 0, a total of 34 days is day 1 and so on.

If you follow all this advice, you be capturing and farming money like a pro Safari player.

I guess maybe at the very beginning but I throw at least a safari ball at everything because they are not a limited resource in safari when you have good money.

My throwing goes more like this:

Safari Ball - Pokemon my active is NFE against that I don't really want
Great Ball - Pokemon my active is normal or better against that I don't really want
Ultra Ball - Pokemon I want
Master Ball - Any legendary or shiny
Luxury Ball - Pokemon I don't really want that I have a 4* effective lead.
Quick Ball - Used to try and win contests gacha prize.
Heavy Ball - Any 500+ bst pokemon.

Stick to pseudos or evolving shinies. Anything else can usually be gotten cheaper with using the money you can sell the candies at.

Seems mostly alright overall.

For which balls to throw, maybe you can think of it like this:

What extra % of capture will it give, and what profit will you get from the capture?
Let's say theoretically (numbers out of thin air) that Virizion has a 60% capture rate against Goldeen. Great will give that an extra 30% chance to push it to 90% for 30 extra coins, whereas Ultra would give it 40% extra for 90 coins. If Goldeen is worth 400, then using a Great Ball may be the optimum choice.
The same applies when thinking about not-effective catches. Let's say that Virizion has a 8% capture rate against Mime Jr. (0.25x effective) with a value of 400. A Great Ball would only be giving you 4% extra catch rate for 30 gold, and an Ultra just an extra 8% for 90 gold more. You may still want to throw a Safari Ball in case you get that 8% because you would still expect profit over repeated catches (and you get lots of free safari balls anyway).
Not everything is clear cut, and you will have to make rash decisions, but it's a guide you can use to think about what ball to use. As a beginner, you can only really guess at the catch rates, so just assume higher BST = harder to catch, and remember that catch rate is doubled for each super effective matchup and halved for NVE matchup.

Also note that what to throw differs in a contest because Pokemon come about much more frequently and therefore the differences in cooldown matters a lot more. You might not want to throw all the time, or might want to throw balls with lower cooldown, so you get a chance to catch the Pokemon you are effective against, or valuable Pokemon, without missing out because of coodown. For instance, Luxury Balls are better outside of contests because it does not offer much of a boost to catchrate in contests, and cooldown does not matter as much outside of them.

To my mind, auctions are more for selling quickly. It is possible to get a greater profit than shops, and indeed maybe you can find the optimum price if you don't know what people are willing to pay for it, but it is also possible to get a lot less profit. Remember it depends on the people in the channel at the time - so choose an active time if you are auctioning.

Keep login on daily! After a while your daily rewards get up to a point where you wont have to worry about your money to buy balls, you get a decent amount of money and a decent amount of pokemons just from login in. You dont have to play to get it just log on to the Safari channel, if you just do this everyday you will be out of the money pinch in no time!

Made a bunch of edits to fix the grammar and to clarify a few things. Also added the effect of nerfs and buffs of contest rules.

Hi! Since new people join Safari from time to time, I thought it would be helpful to create a thread with suggestions/tips for new players. Feel free to post suggestions for things such as arena teams (i.e. what people should use to beat Crimson), fair prices (no more ripping off...), what to keep/sell (no more NPC'd Volcanions...), how to get costumes, etc.

I'll start with the Ninja Boy costume.

The /itemhelp for the Ninja Boy costume says:
(01:03:41) Ninja Boy Costume: A master in ninjutsu. Able to lurk amongst the shadow and create diversions to sneak past a small number of Trainers in the Battle Tower.
All it does it start you at Level 3 of the Battle Tower instead of Level 1. Not too useful, but maybe you want to get it just for the sake of getting it.

The criteria for obtaining the costume is:
(01:20:59) ±Tauros: Reach Floor 11 of Battle Tower using a team of Pokémon <500 BST to obtain the Ninja Boy costume!

Getting far in Battle Tower is somewhat difficult as it is, but if you want this costume then you'll need to beat 10 floors with lower BST Pokemon. As usual, Steel and Dragon-type Pokemon are useful for their resistances. You can't use pseudo-legends and Aegislash, so you'll need to find lower BST alternatives. Useful Pokemon to use to get this costume are:

[IMG] Doublade[IMG]Bisharp[IMG]Skarmory[IMG]Klefki[IMG]Altaria[IMG]Druddigon[IMG]Bastiodon[IMG]Spiritomb[IMG] Cradily

If there are other Pokemon that are useful for getting the Ninja Boy costume, let me know and I'll add it to this list. If you think one of these Pokemon shouldn't be here, then also let me know and I'll remove it.

Hi there I also used Bronzong and Scizor, Bronzong worked really well. Scizor sometimes a little less but its a good alternate steel pick. Another surprisingly well and one of my most winning pokemons was Cradily. So I would recommend also adding that

Okay. I didn't know whether Pokemon with exactly 500 BST were allowed :o

I think this thread is unnecessary.
1. There's already a thread with similar name. Could had added it here: http://pokemon-online.eu/threads/safari-hints-tips.32749/
2. There already a post on what teams are used to get the Ninja Boy costume here: http://pokemon-online.eu/threads/tower-hall-of-fame-bst-500-11-floors.33071/
Edit: Also I would not post about how to beat Crimson or else Fuzzy or Rice will just edit it and make it impossible where the game will just take all your money. He's that hard for a reason so people don't win silver coins the easy way since they are very valuable, specially for those shiny pokes that being sold right now by NPC.

Oh, lol, I didn't even know that thread existed. Whatever, this could get deleted or something I guess.
For the Ninja Boy costume thing, I intended for more explanation... eventually.
I think it would still be worthwhile to post suggestions for teams for Crimson/Tower. Even with the perfect Crimson team, you're probably not going to win more than half the time due to RNG and his insanely high move power rolls. It's just that it's less likely if you have a team consisting of something like Tangrowths and Hitmonlees.

Update
• More balls info.
• Some info on Candy Dust.
• Master Ball revealed on daily reward.
Although I've got all costumes except Invert (unobtainable), everyone uses them differently. If anyone got any advice I probably add a section. So far I just use ones I want when I need boost. :x
