Hey guys it’s me again, this time with a cool LU team with which I won the LU Arena Ladder Challenge! For those who don’t know what it was, the participants were given six choices, each between 3 randomized pokemon from the LU tier; some choices were between the top threats but most of them were lesser known mons. Needless to say I was kinda fortunate to get a decent roll, and managed to make this team with which I had success on the ladder and server tours to some extent. It’s neither perfect nor unbeatable by any means, but with some degree of prediction and an aggressive mindset it can be very fun to play with. Spoiler (13:29:35) ±Porygon: Your rank in ORAS LU is 1/956 [1425 points / 43 battles]! Spoiler There wasn’t much thinking involved in building this since my options were limited, but still I’ll go through the process in brief. Flygon was the only hazard-control mon I received over the two rolls, so I just went with it blindly. My initial set was special LO but I changed it to Scarf later as I needed a fast U-turner and revenge killer. Went with Rotom-C because it provides excellent utility with WoW and Volt switch, and I have a decent volt-turn core. Next I picked Sigilyph, something I always wanted to try in LU and is my stallbreaker #1 I needed something to check threats like Tyrantrum/Mega Aggron/Durant, Mega Steelix does all that and also provides Stealth Rock. After that I picked Kecleon, mostly because my other alternatives were shit lol, but it actually performs well as a special tank with AV and can dish out solid damage thanks to Protean. Lastly I chose Malamar just because I liked using it when it was NU, it’s also a reasonably good stallbreaker. Thanks @Aurist for this amazing pic! Flygon (M) @ Choice Scarf Trait: Levitate EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk) - U-turn - Defog - Earthquake - Outrage I usually lead with this when I see Emboar/Zoroark on the opposing team. High Attack and Speed stat makes it an excellent Choice Scarf user; Outrage/Earthquake provide powerful dual STABs and U-turn is for scouting purposes. Defog might seem odd on a scarf set but it actually works well due to it’s great typing and Levitate, and has saved me multiple times. It’s my go-to revenge killer and late-game cleaner and it rarely disappoints me. Thanks to @Lasen for this amazing pic! Rotom-C @ Leftovers Trait: Levitate EVs: 224 HP / 144 SAtk / 136 Spd Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk) - Volt Switch - Will-O-Wisp - Leaf Storm - Thunderbolt/Signal beam Rotom-C is a great mon even in higher tiers, hard to believe it was NU at one time. Volt switch provides excellent utility and forms a volt-turn core with Flygon, WoW cripples physical attackers and Leaf Strom is it’s most powerful STAB. Signal Beam is a viable option for the last move slot as it does a lot of damage to Celebi, it’s #1 switchin. The EV’s might seem kinda weird but I prefer this spread, with 136 speed EVs it hits 266 speed to outrun max speed Tyranturm/Metagross/Cloyster and cripple them with WoW, and the rest in HP and SpA to increase bulk and damage output. Thanks to @Alio for this amazing pic! Sigilyph (F) @ Life Orb Trait: Magic Guard EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 Def / 252 Spd IVs: 0 Atk Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk) - Calm Mind - Psyshock - Roost - Heat Wave My main stallbreaker and probably the most vital member of my team. Sigilyph can 6-0 stall teams by itself, as I have done multiple times on the LU ladder. CM/Roost allows to set up on defensive mons easily, as it doesn’t fear any form of status except Twave. EVs/moves are self explanatory: Heat Wave is for Steel types like Bronzong/Registeel who resist Psychic STAB and 0 IVs in attack to reduce Foul play damage. This is the main win-con against stall/defensive teams so don’t use it recklessly. Thanks to @Ice Tea for this amazing pic! Steelix (M) @ Steelixite Trait: Sturdy EVs: 248 HP / 20 Def / 240 SDef Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk) - Stealth Rock - Rock Slide/Roar - Earthquake - Heavy Slam Mega Steelix is my stealth rocker and Tyrantrum/Durant/Aggron/Mega Glaie/Fairy check. I opted for a SpDef spread because it already has over 500 def with just 20 EVs and with SpDef it can atleast switch-in once on Specs Expolud/Noivern. Earthquake/Heavy Slam for dual stab, but I’ve juggled between Rock Slide/Roar as the fourth move. Roar is helpful against set-up mons but Rock Slide allows me to hit those pesky Fletchinder switchins, which can cripple Steelix with WoW. Thanks to @NananaBatman for this amazing pic! Kecleon (F) @ Assault Vest Trait: Protean EVs: 240 HP / 252 Atk / 16 Spd Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk) - Drain Punch - Sucker Punch - Ice Punch - Knock Off The lord himself. With access to the amazing ability Protean and a very diverse movepool, Kecleon is very useful mon in NU and LU. I personally haven’t tried it in LU before, but I’m glad that I got to use it in this tier. Its naturally high SpDef stat makes it an excellent AV user even with 0 investment, meaning I can put almost all my EVs in HP and attack and still comfortably check powerful special attackers like Nidoqueen/Noivern/Exploud. Nothing likes to switch in on a STAB Knock off coming from 306 attack , Drain punch provides somewhat reliable recovery and OHKOes stuff like Exploud, Ice punch is mainly to hit Gligar/ Nidoqueen/ Tangrowth harder and Sucker Punch provides much needed priority. Shadow sneak is a valid option for some 50/50 mindgames with Fighting types, but most of them just spam Knock Off and defense isn’t Kecleon’s strong suit. Underestimate Kecleon at your own peril, as it can easily cripple half of your team without you paying attention! Thanks to Felix for this amazing pic! Malamar (F) @ Leftovers Trait: Contrary EVs: 248 HP / 16 Def / 240 SDef / 4 Spd Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk) - Knock Off - Superpower - Sleep Talk - Rest Malamar is the last mon I chose for this team, mainly because I didn’t have a better choice. With max HP/Sdef investment it gets quite bulky on the special side, and it can act as a decent wallbreaker on it’s own by managing to set up with Contrary Superpower. After 2-3 boosts it’s actually very hard to take down without powerful special attackers or Bug-type attacks, but I have to play it carefully because U-Turn is very common in the tier. Most of the time I end up sacking this to Emboar/Gallade/Hitmonlee because I have no switchins, but if given the chance Malamar can definitely put in some good work. Spoiler Flygon (M) @ Choice Scarf Trait: Levitate EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk) - U-turn - Defog - Earthquake - Outrage Rotom-C @ Leftovers Trait: Levitate EVs: 224 HP / 148 SAtk / 136 Spd Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk) - Volt Switch - Will-O-Wisp - Leaf Storm - Signal Beam Sigilyph (F) @ Life Orb Trait: Magic Guard EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd IVs: 0 Atk Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk) - Calm Mind - Psyshock - Roost - Heat Wave Steelix (M) @ Steelixite Trait: Sheer Force EVs: 248 HP / 20 Def / 240 SDef Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk) - Stealth Rock - Rock Slide - Earthquake - Heavy Slam Kecleon (F) @ Assault Vest Trait: Protean EVs: 240 HP / 252 Atk / 16 Spd Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk) - Drain Punch - Sucker Punch - Ice Punch - Knock Off Malamar (F) @ Leftovers Trait: Contrary EVs: 248 HP / 16 Def / 240 SDef / 4 Spd Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk) - Knock Off - Superpower - Sleep Talk - Rest That’s it guys. I couldn’t be bothered doing a separate threatlist for this because of the multitude of overpowered LU mons all threaten it one way or the other. However, Zoroark and Emboar were the two things that gave me the most trouble as I have no switchins for either of them. Other than that SD Gallade/LO Hitmonlee/Mega Glalie are extremely deadly, but as I had mentioned earlier I didn’t have many options to choose from while building this. Overall this is a pretty enjoyable team to play with so try it out and get involved in LU more, but don’t take it too seriously :^] Shoutout to @Aurist for putting together this challenge; it was a nice concept, too bad we didn’t get much ladder activity :( Shoutouts to all my frens in Frost Cavern/Susielou’s/Rage Channel/Skynet/Indigo: you’re all my niggas. See y’all next time n_n
I have no idea how LU works, this team looks DON as fuck, I am the best drawer alive. You all need to GOML.
Hype hype hype hype hype, gratz on winning my challenge, I wish other people had tried hard enough cos some people got some good ass rolls lol. Obviously this is a challenge team and it also topped the ladder by like 200 points so hard to actually go "oh yeah replace this with this" but probably goes without saying you'd want to replace Malamar with a check for Emboar/Hitmonlee lol. Maybe Vap or something. Still Malamar is cool anyway. The Keccles set is lordly, does way more dmg than anyone expects it to. Still I hope it doesnt end up LU by usage lmao its not that good. Keep up the laddering frend we can make this tier gr8
