So this idea was roughly stolen from @Xenolize's theft of a Smogon tournament, but Im changing the rules a lot. Concept remains the same. Oh, and @Joeypals!! helped my crappy rendition become slightly less... bad. CONCEPT: In the game of chess, two players use 15 of their 16 pieces to protect the last one, the king, while attempting to lock the opposing king into a position where death is the only option. Each piece has but 1 or 2 ways of moving, be it diagonal, in a line, or both. In ORAS OU, two players use 6 of their 6 pieces to kill knock out all 6 of their opponent's pieces. Each piece has a vast assortment of moves it can make, ranging from lightly pounding the opponent to summoning a meteor shower upon their unworthy soul, to simply healing a wounded ally. In this tour, we ask what would happen if Pokemon had some rules from chess. How would OU change if only one of your 6 Pokemon really mattered? HMMMMMM??????? RULES: Battles are in ORAS OU. Standard clauses apply ect. Each round, each player will select one pokemon as their "King". The King's importable set species MUST be PMed to me before the start of the first round posted in the signup thread. Which Pokemon will act as King will be revealed to your opponent when the matchups are made, however the details of their set will not (These were sent to ensure Rule 3 is followed). The King cannot be too tanky on its own, it must have it's servants protect it. As such, The King will have NO defensive investment of any kind. "No Defensive Investment" for this tour means no more than 4 total EVs in HP, Def, and SpDef (to allow for a 252/252/4 split), and a nature that does not boost the Def or SpDef stat. Old rules are old, Ignore this for now. The battle ends immediately upon either player's King being knocked out. The player who's king is knocked out first loses the battle. If both players kings die in the same attack as a result of recoil, the Self-KO clause will come into effect. If you dont know what that means, look it up. Between rounds, you may PM me a new king. This change will take affect the next round to start after I receive the PM. If I receive no new King, it will be assumed that your King will remain the same. Standard tournament stuff, ect. (Bo1 till Finals, 1 week per round, 1.5 week signup) So yea, hope you like it. IN OTHER NEWS It seems like there are some finished tours still unlocked and stopping new tours from starting. Might want to get on that :P
So I edited this. and still noone looked at it. This makes me sad :( @Raducan @Weavile @Withoutatrace
Ok, sorry I've had a busy week. I don't see why the "King" can't have defensive investment. If you think about it, bulky Pokémon have their use in that they want to come in on things to put themselves in danger. It's easier to keep a late game sweeper in a team with standard construction alive until the end than it is to keep your Hippowdon or whatever. I don't really see the problem that a bulky king causes. Personally I like the idea of each player selecting a "King" with their signup post and being able to change anything about their team except the species of the King. But that might just be me. This would eliminate the need for troublesome PM checking and whatnot.
Hippowdon wasnt the biggest of my concerns, it really was Chansey. The other consideration I had for King restrictions besides just straight banning Chansey was saying that the King had to be fully evolved with the lame excuse of "otherwise it would probably be a prince" Or just removing that clause as a whole. which would work too. But yea, if we remove the stat restrictions then we can just have the kings posted in the signup thread.
Chansey isn't that hard to kill. Even the best stall teams can be broken and it becomes harder still when it lacks the option to sac one if its pokémon should it need to.
