When you open up PO you are given the option to join any server you want. The main server (Pokemon Online) leads to the Tohjo Falls channel. From there you can manually join other channels which talk about certain topics, or even create one of your own.

When you open up Showdown you are given a wide variety of rooms that you can join, each which talk about certain topics and themes. An OU room, NU room, a room for cooking, one about sports, another about anime, etc.

Why not implement this? It's extremely efficient and very productive. Tohjo Falls would still exist, but just as a separate channel or room. You can argue that you can create your own channels like Anime or whatever, but almost nobody sees them and you're better off just talking about Anime in Tohjo Falls. With rooms you have designated places for that. You want to talk about Anime? Just join this official Anime and Manga room. Wanna join a Wi-fi room and try to get some trades? The Wifi place is for you. Want to participate in tournaments? The Torunaments room is for you.

And in each room only stuff about that room would be talked about. That would mean that OU chat wouldn't be permitted in the NU room, and asking for cooking tips in an Anime room wouldn't be permitted either.

It works really well and it keeps everyone from being huddled up in Tohjo falls, where more than a third of the playerbase has no idea what channels are. Tiers would have their own rooms where bans and such could be talked about in an organized way. Off topic chats like cooking, movies, TV, books, nature, etc. would have their own room.

When choosing which server to join it could lead you to a page which shows all of the rooms you can join, and on top of that you would still be able to battle normally.

I can only think of two reasons for why this hasn't been implemented. 1) It's difficult or too time consuming to create, or 2) You don't want to 'steal' from Showdown. Number 1 is probably a valid reason, but if it's possible and it's Number 2 that gets in the way, then I think it's important to note that Showdown didn't invent chat rooms. It's just a very organized and effective way to talk with a group of people about your interests without getting lost in the chat of Tohjo Falls.

You can lock this or whatever, but I just thought I would throw the idea out there. Thanks for reading.
