Hey. I've lurked on these forums forever and I have to say I like it. So I made this account (My name is Cake btw) and I hve an RMT I'd like rates on. The team is based around the Destroyer of Worlds and Crusher of Dreams. Yes. Mega Altaria. Such Fluff. Much Power. Very Stronk. So lets get to the Team Building Process So of course I wanted to use Mega Altaria. It's an excellently vertastile Mega with any options. I chose the Special Attacking route because I've used both variants and I like this more. MAltaria is weak to Poison, Fairy, Ice, and Steel. There is a singular Pokemon that resist all of those and is able to defeat them. So Heatran was chosen. However Heatran had a terrible weakness to Ground, Water, and Fight. MAltaria easily dealt with Fighting Types, yet it'd have trouble with the others. So I chose Rotom-W as it can easily defeat Ground and Water Types. Rotom-W had a single weakness to Grass. So I added Weavile to cover that and it offers valuable coverage with being able to take on Grass Types, as well as offer utility with Knock Off. It also has a form of priority. I also chose it because it's fast and hits hard and speed is what my team will lack, as well as fovering for a weakness of a future teammate. So now I had a double weakness to Fighting. I also lacked any significant set-up Sweepers that can take over if MAltaria goes down. So I chose Landorus-T for it's capability to set-up and easily sweep while also being able to take Fighting Types with MAltaria. Lastly I figured I'd need another Fairy Check as well as something else to take on Dark Types, most notably Bisharp. I also needed a Water resist or immunity and I found it here. So I figured I'd give Toxicroak a whirl and it's excellent. It also collaborates excellently with Weavile as they cover each others weaknesses. So to recap I put my Pokemon into teams that synergize near perfectly. Example Below: / / In Depth Analysis Priority, Revenge Killer, Fairy Check Toxicroak@ Life Orb 252 Atk / 232 Spe / 20 HP / 4 Sp. Def Dry Skin Ability Jolly Nature ~ Drain Punch ~ Gunk Shot ~ Sucker Punch ~ Swords Dance The Posion Dart Frog and first RK and Priority. Toxicroak serves as my loose Keldeo sub-check as well as my early-game to mid-game set-up Wallbreaker with it's Life Orb. Drain Punch gives it a reliably recovery option as well as STAB. Gunk Shot is extremely powerful and destroys Faires even while unboosted. Sucker Punch is priority and allows it to defeat most Psychic types, but it'll need a SD boost to guarantee an OHKO. With the Jolly Nature and the speed Ev's I outspeed all base 81's which is Gyarados and below, most notably Gallade pre-Mega. A releveant Pokemon to show Toxicroak's worth is being able to OHKO Standard Clefable with Gunk Shot. 252 Atk Life Orb Toxicroak Gunk Shot vs. 252 HP / 160+ Def Clefable: 429-507 (108.8 - 128.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO Priority and Revenge Killer Weavile@ Life Orb 252 Atk / 232 Spe / 24 Def Pressure Ability Jolly Nature ~ Low Kick ~ Knock Off ~ Ice Punch ~ Ice Shard The Weasel, second Priority, and RK. Weavile is an amazing Pokemon to use priority Ice Shard, as it's very fast and would go before more times than not. The Jolly Nature with the Ev's in allows it to outspeed Tornadus-Therian and OHKO with Ice Punch, which is Mandatory STAB. Remaining Ev's were tossed into Defence. Ice Shard is the Priority and allows it to Revenge Kill weakened foes. Low Kick lets it deal with the likes of Tyranitar and other relevant Pokemon, most notablely Bisharp again. Knock Off offers valuable utility with removing items and it hits incredible hard with Life Orb Secondary Fairy Check and Cleaner Heatran@ Choice Scarf 252 Sp.A / 252 Spe / 4 HP Flash Fire Ability Timid Nature ~ Fire Blast ~ Earth Power ~ Flash Cannon ~ Stone Edge The Lava Dome Pokemon. The Ev's are pretty standard and allows it to outspeed +Base 135's with Scarf and hit hard as possible. Fire Blast is it's most Powerful STAB with no drawbacks and whacks what the team struggles with hard. Earth Power serves as the move of coverage and allows it to defeat other Heatran who are otherwise outsped. Flash Cannon is the move that makes Heatran the secondary Fariy Check and allows it to have a STAB move to abuse after PP from FB is gone. Stone Edge allows it to OHKO Mega Charizard Y and SmogonBird aka Talonflame. This gives it the ability to easily Clean Up after it's teammates are done with the opposition. Offensive Pivot and Wall Crippler Rotom-W@ Choice Specs 252 HP / 168 Sp.A / 48 Def / 36 Sp.D / 4 Spe Levitate Ability Modest Nature ~ Volt Switch ~ Trick ~ Hydro Pump ~ Hidden Power Ice The Appliance Pokemon. The Ev's allows it to always hit as hard as it can without sacrificing bulk. The bulk allows it to tank most hits. The most relevant comparison is being 2HKOed by MMawiles Play Rough, and keep in mind this was with minimum Ev's. Hydro Pump is powerful with Choice Specs backing it up and STAB. Volt Switch allows it to gain momentum and switch out. Trick allows it to cripple walls who don't appreciate Specs. Hidden Power Ice rounds out it's coverage and allows it to stand a chance against Grass types. Late-Game Sweeper Landorous-Therian@ Leftovers 252 Atk / 208 Spe / 48 HP Intimidate Ability Adamant Nature ~ Earthquake ~ Stone Edge ~ Swords Dance ~ Rock Polish Double Dance Landorus-T. I'm in love with it. The Ev's allows it to outspeed unboosted Excadrill and all bases below 88. I maxed out attack and tossed the rest into HP. Earthquake is it's STAB and hits extremely hard after an SD. Rock Polish patches up it's speed and outspeed everything after a single turn. Stone Edge allows it to nail Flying types and Levitators. I chose this over the ChoiceTurn set because I've grown rather tired of it. Landorus-T has many opportunities to Double Dance and I decided to try it out. Leftovers allows passive recovery while it sweeps. All Game Wallbreaker, Dragon Wrecker, Destroyer of Worlds, Crusher of Dreams Mega Altaria@ Altarianite 164 HP / 208 Sp.A / 48 Def / 88 Sp.D Pixilate Ability Modest Nature ~ Roost ~ Hyper Voice ~ Fire Blast ~ Perish Song Special Mega Altaria. First I went Special because of how often you see Physical Mega Altaria and for the element of surprise. Roost gives it instant recovery, complimenting it's great bulk. Hyper Voice is powerful coming off it's Sp.A with Pixilate and is STAB allowing it to break walls. Fire Blast allows it to wreck Steel Types that can injure Mega Altaria. Perish Song is great utility. It forces unwanted switches, such as making a Sweeper that's set up have to switch out and that goes great with Roost, allowing Altaria to stall out the countdown. The Ev spread allows it to survive Mega Venasuar's Sludge Bomb. Enough were put in Sp.A to 2HKO everything in the tier with the appropriate move. The rest went in Defense to offer a bit more Bullet Punch surviving. I'm pressed for time. I'll edit importable in later M'Kay?
It's really nice to see a creative team in OU. Double Dance Landorus-T and Special M-Altaria are in particular under utilised sets. Personally, I'd just run 248/252 Bold on Rotom-W as once that's gone Talonflame will demolish your team. Also, I'd use Draco Meteor over Perish Song personally, as with Hyper Voice and Fire Blast it only misses out on Heatran.
I'm on my phone. Anyway Heatran is my loose Bird Spam Check and Rotom KO it easily. Of course if they're gone if it's an Adamant one Weavile can out speed, but it's all a matter of Chance. Thanks for the rate. ^^
Cool team, however your team has absolutely no form of hazard control, both in terms of setting SR and removing it. Definitely you ought to try and fit SR somewhere on the team, probably on Lando-T, while if you really want Weavile you should probably try to use some sort of defog/rapid spin support. Personally I'd look at making Lando-T some kind of offensive SR set. Against certain defensive cores, it looks like your team has trouble- particularly those that feature Quagsire, since the only Quagod switchins you have are Rotom and MAlt, both of which are susceptible to Toxic. So if something that walls those two comes with Quag (MVenu, Chansey, Heatran+grass type) I can see your team really struggling. Opposing Rotom-W might also pose a similar threat, but they're easier to wear down so idk. I feel like Heal Bell on MAlt might be a good idea, PSong isn't the greatest way to stop setup sweepers since it still gives them a couple turns to blast through your team and you've already got two strong priority users and a powerful scarfer. Meanwhile burns and Toxic give your team serious issues, since they cripple everything on your team bar Heatran, which cannot switch in to Scalds etc Also MMaw has been banned for ages, so since you say you've EV'd Rotom to handle it, you'll probably want to change that spread. idk, just random thoughts
@CakeofTruth When can you add an importable?I really liked the way you went about your build synergising your team, while at the same time accounting for threats that stood out. That's a pretty creative team you got there but surely like all teams yours can take some improvements too.Firstly as mentioned by Ortheore, you lack the slightest bit of hazard control. That's something easily done as you got 2 win conditions and 3 cleaners, which's good to have but those many not necessarily needed. On your team you could throw SR on either one of Lando and Heatran as both are very potential rock setters, but since you wanna run your Heatran Scarfed I'd recommend running SR on your Landorus.Use an offensive SR set perhaps. Rotom no longer needs to have to counter MMawile as it is banned from OU.You might wanna change it's EV spread.Give the standard choice specs set a spin maybe as it fulfills it's role pretty well in what it does,if you don't have a better set already. As for Altaria,I recommend giving it either Equake or heal bell instead of Perish song.Your team isn't threatened by last minute sweeps so you don't need it.Heal bell would be the most beneficial as you got 3 physical attackers on your team, and none of them can take a burn. Not only that, but a cleric would also help Rotom-W more efficiently counter stallbreaker Talon as they tend to run will-o-wisp to catch counters off-guard. As for the notion of a defogger/spinner,changing anything on your team will most likely foil it's balance. You're better off with preventing your opponent from stacking hazards through sheer offensive pressure. On a side note,I'd have updated your team myself. That's a pretty creative team you got there and I'd love to make it even better.Just lemme know when you add the importable.
Id need to test Toxi a little before I give my judgement. I have never seen it used competitively. I do like LO Weavile as well. standard set is standard tho, so imma not mess with it atm. At least it's nice to know SOMEONE else is (in)sane enough to use scarftran. So amazing. M-Maw has been banned since forever, dont ev for it. Your Rotom seems a little slow for a Volt Switch abuser. Rock Polish is not a dance, therefore Lando is not a double dancer. Deal with it. My best memory of M-Altaria involves the words "IT'S SO FLUFFY IM GONNA DIE!!!!!!!" Enough has been said on this topic. Importables are good. Get one in there ASAP to make Yveltal (and the auth) happy.
@ the above users, no offense to the OP but in what way is the team even "creative" when all of the mons and sets are standard and fairly common bar specs rotom-w (which i will address later) hazard control isn't a neccessity, tbh on offensive-paced teams and even slightly slower teams such as this one, hazard control isn't really that much needed since it only affects weavile (which generally only comes in once per game) and such offensive-inclined teams can't afford to give up a free turn to the opponent or spare a team slot just to mitigate this "hazard weakness". it's an okayish team i guess, i honestly don't find this team too fantastic because it has a significant amount of flaws. you are focusing too much on the "defensive synergy" typing-wise but yet the team fails to address significant issues which your team is extremely weak to, such as having 0 switch-ins to common pokemon such as azu and kyub. furthermore the lack of stealth rock on the team further puts you at a disadvantage because you are unable to pressure the opponent and making up flaws in the team with plays. i kinda dislike double dance landT on this team because your team fails to address landT's checks/counters (ie skarm/hippo) in the first place and furthermore the team lacks the offensive synergy and doesn't give landT opportunities to set-up vs the opponent at all. i find that double dance landT is such a waste when other mons or sets would likely fit the team better. the team itself is kinda weak to electrics as well so i would just change landT's set to scarf to mitigate the electric weakness and give heatran the sr set instead. making heatran not choice-locked also provides much more flexibility and sustainability to the team which imo is v important since heatran is a key check to a lot of mons on your team and you definitely require the long staying power of sr heatran w/ leftovers. honestly, i also dont really like that rotom-w is specs because the team really needs a durable pivot and giving rotom-w specs makes it a significantly worse check to a lot of stuff such as azumarill (which is a huge threat to the team and cb just gets a free kill every time it comes in) etc. i find that the team already pressures the opponent offensively enough because the opp needs to handle m alt's wallbreaking power and also need to prevent toxicroak from getting a SD off and finally also having to plan how to beat scarf landT lategame so i don't really see the need of specs rotom-w tbh when your team is already bulky enough to handle threats. weav kinda looks like the weak link to the team because it doesn't provide anything to the team defensively and yet weavile just appreciates being on a full out offense team that is entirely focused on wallbreaking. i would replace this with cb scizor because scizor gives the team a much needed mgarde, kyu b and mdiancie check while still being able to soften up physical walls such as hippo and skarm so that either croak or landT has an easier time with them later in the game. i would run u turn/bp/superpower/toxic on scizor, toxic is mainly for crippling hippo and talon on the switch since both are huge threats to the team and it is really good to be able to strap them on a timer and ensures landT will win vs them in a 1v1 scenario lategame. psong on altaria is kinda weird i guess, i would run agility so that you do have a second win-con vs offense apart from scarf landT cleaning up lategame. yea im aware i kinda made the team a lot more "standard" in a sense and got rid of double dance and specs rotom-w but sometimes standard stuff are the most common simply because they are the most effective atm. it's good to experiment with different combinations but it is also important to note that not all experiments will always work and trial and error is your best friend. finally, as a teambuilder you don't always need to be so focused on choosing team members simply based on their defensive typing because common wallbreakers such as kyu b and manaphy will always pack 2 other coverage options which will dismantle such teams which rely on defensive typing synergy to support the team. good luck with the team, and please change your formatting good lord colours hurt my eyes when i see your posts on smogon
Not to start a war but merely using Weavile,Toxicroak and Scarftran stands out as something creative to me.It's rather unorthodox for a person to use a Weavile instead of slapping a sucker punch Bisharp onto their team.Likewise for using a scarf tran over air baloon/specially defensive and the double dancer Lando he's running atm.
