Victreebel is a pokemon with great potential, but tapping that potential can be very difficult. It is able to inflict both paralysis and sleep, while also possessing the coveted move Wrap in conjunction with respectable offensive stats. Furthermore it is able to run two distinctly different sets, a rare trait in RBY. These traits make it a formidable threat, but are counterbalanced by its middling speed and the fact that it’s crippled by paralysis. Furthermore it provides almost no defensive synergy to a team- STAB Razor Leaf means it’s the best in the game at KOing Bro, but beyond that its lack of resistances make it extremely difficult to switch in. Wrap Victreebel (M) @ (No Item) - Sleep Powder - Wrap - Razor Leaf - Stun Spore/Hyper Beam This is the more consistent of Victreebel’s sets, and aims to spread status throughout the opposing team then gradually wear them down with Wrap. Sleep Powder is used because sleep is incredibly potent in RBY and reliable users are few and far between. Wrap prevents the opposing player from attacking you and gradually wears down opposing teams. Razor Leaf decimates Rock and Water types that might otherwise think to wall Victreebel. Stun spore is the top choice as paralysis is incredibly useful for a Wrapper, while Hyper Beam is another valid option, making Victreebel a much more potent sweeper, though it is also a little more support dependent. Swords Dance Victreebel (M) @ (No Item) - Swords Dance - Hyper Beam - Razor Leaf - Body Slam/Sleep Powder/Stun spore This set aims to surprise players expecting the Wrap set and blast holes through a paralysed opposing team. Swords Dance boosts Victreebel’s attack to dangerous levels. Hyper Beam hits extremely hard after a boost. Razor Leaf complements this by taking down Rock and Water types. Body Slam provides a consistent source of damage if an opponent is not in Hyper Beam KO range, while status is also an excellent option that supports both itself and the rest of the team. Other Options If you feel your team is already capable of putting something to sleep, you can drop Sleep Powder for another move, such as Hyper Beam. You can also try fitting Wrap and Swords Dance on the same set, though be mindful that the more gradual damage of Wrap can make it easier to play around. In a similar vein, for the Swords Dance set one could try dropping Hyper Beam rather than Body Slam for status, though you lose a lot of power if you do so. Checks and Counters Gengar is a hard counter, resisting Razor Leaf and being immune to normal attacks. It can then KO with either Night Shade or the rare Psychic. Paralysis is the number one priority when facing Victreebel, particularly the Wrap set. Zapdos, Exeggutor and Articuno all possess good bulk and resist Razor Leaf, while 2HKOing with super effective STAB attacks. It is important to note that Articuno is incapable of paralysing, while Exeggutor is outsped. Jynx, Starmie and Alakazam all struggle to switch in, but outspeed and hit Victreebel hard, while Starmie and Alakazam can also paralyse it. Chansey has good overall bulk and access to both Thunder Wave and Ice Beam, but is outsped and fears Swords Dance. Similarly Snorlax has good bulk, and hits back hard, but it too is outsped. Spoiler: skeleton Bet you all thought I’d forgotten about this right? Nope, just getting hammered by uni. Now that that’s done with for now, I’ll get onto some analyses Overview Reliable sleep, as well as access to Stun Spore Access to Wrap, along with good offensive stats Capable of running two distinctly different sets Should probably mention somewhere that Wrap is far more consistent and less difficult to build around than SD Demolishes Slowbro with Razor Leaf, which ignores Amnesia boosts. Middling speed Poor typing makes it difficult to switch in Wrap Victreebel (M) @ (No Item) - Sleep Powder - Wrap - Razor Leaf - Stun Spore/Hyper Beam · Goal of this set is to gradually wear the opponent down and spread status throughout the opposing team · Sleep Powder because it’s accurate and sleep is extremely useful in RBY · Wrap gradually deals damage to the opponent while stopping them from attacking · Razor Leaf is STAB, deals with GolDon and Water types · Stun Spore paralyses opponents, providing team support while boosting the effectiveness of Wrap by ensuring the opponent is slower than Bel · Hyper Beam is an option for finishing weakened foes off Swords Dance Victreebel (M) @ (No Item) - Swords Dance - Hyper Beam - Razor Leaf - Body Slam/Sleep Powder/Stun spore · Goal of this set is to break opposing teams once their key Pokemon have been paralysed · Swords Dance boosts its attack to formidable levels · Hyper Beam packs a lot of power after a boost · Razor Leaf is STAB and deals with GolDon and Water types · Body Slam is for general damage-dealing, while also spreading para · Sleep Powder is useful because sleep is a great status and it helps Bel find an opportunity to set up. Stun spore is useful for ensuring Bel outspeeds its opponents as well as generally supporting the team. Other Options · If you feel like your team already has the tools to get sleep off you can opt to drop Sleep Powder for something like Hyper Beam. · You can try fitting Wrap and Swords Dance onto the same set- this quickly wears down the opponent while preventing them from attacking, however it is a bit easier to play around than BSlam, while forgoing status is also tough. · On the SD set, you can try dropping Hyper Beam for status instead of Body Slam, but you lose out on a lot of power Checks and Counters · Gengar is immune to normal attacks and resists Razor leaf, while easily beating it with Night Shade (or even Psychic) · Paralysis is particularly important in limiting the Wrap set’s effectiveness, while SD sets also dislike paralysis · Zapdos, Exeggutor and Articuno all possess good bulk, resist Razor Leaf and 2HKO with super effective STAB attacks. Note that Exeggutor is outsped, and Articuno is incapable of paralysing. · Jynx, Starmie and Alakazam dislike directly switching in, but outspeed Victreebel and hit it hard. Starmie and Zam also have Twave to cripple Bel. · Chansey has good overall bulk and access to both Twave and Ice Beam, but is outsped and fears SD. · Snorlax has good bulk and hits hard with its attacks, but it is outsped
i'd rather drop the fourth move than body slam on the sdance set for a status move, otherwise, looks good. should mention victreebel as the best slowbro killer too more specifically because that's actually quite good
Wait I'm not sure what you mean by your first sentence. Do you think I should slash a status move on the SD set? Because atm I only mention dropping HBeam for status on that set (in OO). Also I'll mention the part about it murdering Bro
oh my bad. i meant that i'd rather drop body slam than hyper beam if i were to pick up a status move on the sdance set (and that a status move is worthy of a slash, not just other options).
Ok, slashed stun/sleep with BSlam, mentioned dropping HBeam in OO, and added a brief point describing the goal of each set. Also moved SD+Wrap to OO because too many slashes
Double post because it's written in full now. Note that I moved the point about Wrap being more consistent from the overview to the set itself Edit: 500 not bad

Most people wouldn't realize certain pokemon have these analyses since we currently only list by tiers and such.
