    Introduction
Monotype is a very interesting tier, it forces you to adopt a playstyle that uses one common type to try to take down the other 17. In another vein, the series of Nintendo are in constant competition with each other, whether it be on the field of Smash Bros or in terms of legacy and sales with their own titles. What if we were to take and combine these into one balanced concept though? Using Nintendo's top franchises, competitors will create Tri-Type teams based on the assigned series for that round. Are you ready?

    Format
This tournament will be run in the ORAS OU tier with Tri-Type rules. Tri-Type works like this: You are given three types to use, and can only use those 3 types. Dual-typings outside of these 3 will be eligible. All three types must be used on a team however. Competitors will be assigned series based on what side of the bracket they fall on for that round, and thus assigned types. There will be 4 assigned per round until the finals: Left top, Left bottom, Right top, Right bottom. Besides that, the usual tour format is used. BO1 until the semis, then BO3 for the semis and finals. If cheating is found, the log of the battle needs to be sent to me.

Type Assignments (can change/add series if need be)
All Series: Normal (can be used to fill in slots, does not count towards the trio unless something like Normal/Fire in the case of Mario)
    Mario: Fire, Flying, Ice
    Zelda: Psychic, Fairy, Dark
    Metroid: Steel, Fighting, Dark
    Kid Icarus: Flying, Psychic, Fighting
    Donkey Kong: Ground, Fighting, Grass
    Animal Crossing: Rock, Water, Grass
    Kirby: Rock, Ghost, Fire
    Mother: Psychic, Electric, Ice
    Pokemon: Water, Grass, Flying
    Pikmin: Bug, Poison, Steel
    Fire Emblem: Fire, Electric, Steel
    Golden Sun: Dragon, Ice, Psychic

    Rules
-ORAS OU (Sleep, Species, Wifi, Self-KO) following Tri-Type rules
-Best of 1 (semi-finals and finals are BO3)
-Round 1 lasts two weeks, following rounds last one week
-Teams must have the three types from their assigned game.

    Sign-ups
None so far! 16/32 spots remain!

This reminds me of the Avatar Challenge that I ran in LC and later in NU
It's an interesting setup but the way you've worked out the specifics, mainly the rule against using Dual-typings outside of your chosen "element" makes it extremely restrictive and very very match-up dependent. I can't approve it with that rule in place and even beyond that I would still prefer one more type for each category, but that's might just be me.

I agree with Weavile, I would allow dual-types.

I'd prefer that Normal is considered a wildcard, able to be used for every type assignment rather than having its own designated one. It gives the players some leeway to teambuild without being too permissive.
I'm making a rough draft of what the current dual-types rule would imply for some type assignments:

Mario: Articuno, Delibird; Charizard (and Mega Y), Moltres, Xatu, Swoobat, Sigilyph, Talonflame
Zelda: Mr. Mime, Gardevoir (and Mega), Unbound Hoopa (lol); Malamar
Metroid: Cobalion, Lucario, Bisharp, Pangoro, Scrafty

I did just the first three so you can get an idea. Everything else would have to be pure type, and i don't think they would be able to carry most of the pokemon that seem to be clear lower tier material.
So yeah, allowing dual types seems like the best idea, it's ok to have the tour format resemble, or even be equal, besides name changes and repeated types in the assignments, to the Avatar Challenge, since that was a cool format anyway, and it hasn't been tried in tournament form for what i remember.

    Undecided for now.

    Changes I made:
-Dual-typing outside of the trio now allowed.
-All three types in the trio must be used (prior you were allowed to ignore)
-Normal is a free slot people can use to fill slots in their team, but does not count towards the "three needed types".

I thought about it @Weavile and while a 4th type would definitely expand play, that'd ultimately make the challenge ultimately lose that slightly constrained feel that's supposed to put teambuilding to work, so I chose not to include it and let Normal be a wild card (technically a 4th so win-win?) while allowing for dual-typing.
