Smogon got one on the web,and it's accurate.Though it would be great to have one embedded into the simulator, probably one like Sulcata's (Guessing it's as light as it looks).Thing would really help offline players build better but also save them the pain that got a slow net connection. PO atm got a useless Pokedex button on the teambuilder, lol Spoiler Can probably be replaced with a button pointing to a calculator.
Sounds cool, but the biggest issue i see is that if the calculator is shipped as default in the program we are going to have a lot of noobs opening the teambuilder in the middle of the battles to calculate every single move they make and making extremely slow battles (probably, maybe not)
Most players do that, lol. The calculator could be an external program linked to the PO simulator if it can work that way.using a calculator on the web takes up even more time though when battling :/..
If you have it inside the battle window then most of the variables would be known already. Making it quicker to do.
Well if it doesn't mess up the Battle Window with commands on screen and such. But the basic idea of a damage calc is not only to calculate damage during battle, but also while building to get an accurate idea of how you would expect a set to work in battle.having it open in a new window would be pretty convenient if possible.
I know that most players use calculators during the battles, but is a little different, regularly the players that take the time to search for a calculator in the web are players with real interest and knowledge of the game mechanics, these players have enough experience to know how much damage certain move can deal to certain poke, and they only use these calculators in critical situations when they are not sure if a poke can survive an attack or not My biggest fear with this idea is that if the calculator is shipped as a default a lot of new and noob players are going to use it for every single move they make, like calculating useless things like how much damage a talonflame can cause to a full health heatran (remember, in the middle of a battle!!!, you know is going to happen), the single fact that the calculator is going to be there just by opening the teambuilder or pressing a button is going to be a temptation to a lot of players (maybe im just paranoid or i simply hate when some players take an entire minute to make one move) The comment of Midway is interesting, we can put it in the battle window, but inserting all the data like nature, evs and item still takes a lot of time, something like this is only going to work if is automated. instead of inserting all the data of the poke we can have some type of tool that automatically calculates the minimal and maximum damage with your 4 moves (calculated using the stats of your poke and in the enemy 0 evs in hp and defenses for the maximum damage, and 252 evs in hp and defenses with a good nature for minimal damage) For example imagine that you have your talonflame against the said heatran, and below the names of your attacks you automatically see the calculations every time a poke is changed, like [Brave Bird] and below of that 20.9%-40.8% / [Flare Blitz] 0.0%-81.7% (With and without flash fire of course) / [U-turn] 3.8%-7.7% / Etc etc etc etc, a simple automated tool like that could help a lot of players without the need of opening a calculator and inserting a lot of data, of course the normal calculator is going to be included for advanced players that want to calculate things with specific combinations of evs but the automated tool is going to be enough to stop noob players of using it and taking precious seconds of battles Of course something like that requires a lot of programing, is just a crazy idea i had I understand the part where you mention that you want the calculator to use mostly in the teambuilder when you are offline, i had the same problem with that, but you can use the calculator that is in smogon, open it with your browser and then save the page as an archive, then even when you are offline you can reopen the archive with your browser and use the calculator, i tried to save the sulcata calculator that we have here but it didnt worked for me offline :(,
i'm making a plugin right now that has sulcata's calc in a window, with your pokemon's stats filled in. maybe the stuff that @Rabidragon can be done in the future after it's working i'll post when done.
i made this one time but i think i forgot to put it on github and its gone now its not that hard, but it might not be good for reasons other people have mentioned (noobs using it every single turn, etc)
Thanks again @Duster .And yes,a plugin might be the ideal move here. For the timstallers maybe we can implement a better timer in due time. @Rabidragon mate. That would be downright making Pokemon less competitive.Ik people damage calculate already,I do it myself. But that's coz I care about the wins. Most others may or may not abuse the plugin but lel.It takes persistence keeping that up and they might as well get bored of it but with taht they'd be pulling off the right prediction every single time, minimizing the skill required.
