I thought of this some time ago, thought I post it to get it off my mind.

I've been thinking. When users are searching for active or interesting channels, they most likely come across locked ones. To avoid users having to double-click and hope it doesn't show "(00:00:00) +Guard: Sorry, but this channel is for higher authority!" why not just show a padlock icon? I imagine at server startup it check all channel data for one check and have an event listenner for when invite only is set to on or off.

Just an example screenshot I edited of one of my private channels.

    1. I'm not sure how useful this would be to the 90% of players that think the only channel is Tohjo Falls
    2. I also think the client doesn't get information whether the channel is invite only or not.
    3. What about people who can bypass it (auth, members of the channel)? Would it still show the lock?
    4. What would happen if the channel suddenly removed the invite only status? Would it send an update to everyone online? Seems a bit wasteful.

I don't mean to sound so harsh, but the effort that I'm thinking this is going to need (if even possible) is far greater than the combined time it would save. I mean, if it was an easy thing, I'd say we should do it. But if it takes more than 5-10 minutes, I'd say that time is better spent elsewhere. (PS: I have no clue how to do it)

I kinda imagined the lock either darkened or icon removed. Also, regardless if member, the lock will still remain to indicate it's still invite only. Just how I imagined it.

I just thought it be handy, I imagine global messages like kick, mute and ban are mostly messages sent to all players by all active player id. But, if it's not worth it then I understand. Sorry, if I wasted time, just thought I mention it to see if it was a good idea or not.

I've looked into this in the past, as well as the possibilities of doing categorized channels, such as putting official channels at top.

I think this would be a very nice change but PO uses scripts primarily in the handling of channels, so the actual server that handles all the transmission to clients doesn't even have this data.

Would be a bit of effort to get this implemented.

Categorizing official and private channels sounds good. I imagine it be difficult to do like the lock icon idea. Could always note this for future if someone wants to try implement it.
