IntroductionHi friends. Usually there’s a little more time between RMT’s of mine, but there’s a reason I’m posing this now. The RMT forum is kinda dead, even though it’s one of the best places for new players to go to, see how good teams get built and learn to become good players themselves. Because of this, I’m gonna post the LU team I’ve been using a little now. I don’t usually play LU, but after getting bored of Ubers, I decided to try it out. I hadn’t really tried it before, but it’s honestly a very fun tier and it deserves more players. A lot of play styles are viable, from balanced teams over HO ones like this one. If you feel nostalgic and wanna get into a weather war from time to time, this is your place as well because sand, rain and hail are very viable here! (I guess sun too but I’ve never faced that). Anyway that’s long enough for an introduction. Let’s take a closer look at the team. Peak: Spoiler: peak Teambuilding process: Spoiler: teambuilding process I decided to build my team around Sharpedo. LU seemed to be a tier where most teams were offensive and Sharpedo is deadly against those. Sharpedo loves hazards. Froslass + Sharpedo was deadly back in BW2 UU, so I decided to reunite the duo. Spikes are fun, but SR are an absolute must for offensive teams. Nidoqueen was the first mon to come to mind. Its neat typing (to check Heracross) and its wallbreaking capacities (to facilitate a Sharpedo sweep) made it a perfect fit. Defog can be taken care off via offensive pressure, but a Rapid Spinner spinning my hazards away would suck. Enter: Scarf Rotom who adds Speed and an easy way to grab momentum to the team. Weather sweepers looked incredibly threatening. I also needed some kind of wallbreaker to weaken physical walls for Sharpedo. SD Mega Abomasnow is all I could have asked for and more. Last but not least I added Hitmonchan. Its main job is countering Mega Houndoom, but it also clears hazards for Mega Abomasnow. More priority is never bad either. Team at a glance: Under the microscope Froslass (F) @ Focus Sash Trait: Cursed Body EVs: 4 Def / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk) - Taunt - Spikes - Shadow Ball - Ice Beam Froslass is pretty much always the lead of this team. Its job is pretty clear-cut. Get up hazards and prevent hazards from being set up on my side of the field. The only thing out of the ordinary on this mon is the lack of Destiny Bond. Destiny Bond is so common that most people will play around it anyway, and the threat of Destiny Bond allows you to surprise them with either Shadow Ball or Ice Beam after you reveal one of them. I like having them both because they hit some important targets. Taunt is too important to drop by stopping SR as well as Trick Room from time to time which is really threatening lol. Usually it’s worth keeping Froslass around at 1 HP, especially against teams with Gligar to effectively cancel Defog. Dead fodder is never a bad thing either. EVs are really straight-forward. _______/\_____________\o/________ Nidoqueen (F) @ Life Orb Trait: Sheer Force EVs: 4 Def / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk) - Earth Power - Stealth Rock - Fire Blast - Thunderbolt Nidoqueen is usually the Pokémon that comes in next to set up Stealth Rocks and start fucking up the opposing team. SR are really good stripping HP away from everything which is sometimes all it takes to get swept by Sharpedo. Nidoqueen is incredibly powerful with LO + Sheer Force. The worst part (or best if you’re using it) is the incredible coverage it can attain even with 3 moves. I chose to run Earth Power as the STAB move of choice. Thunderbolt takes out fat water types like Slowking (unless avest that’s gay) and Alomomola. Fire Blast nukes Heracross while Nidoqueen takes 3 Knock Offs from the Scarf set from full health alongside roasting Grass types. The lack of Ice Beam and Sludge Wave might look a bit weird but I honestly don’t need them. Ice Beam would be nice for Gligar but it gets fucked up by almost everything else on the team and Fire Blast still does a lot of damage anyway. EV Spread is pretty standard. Modest to hit as hard as you can while Nidoqueen appreciates the Speed to outspeed every wall as well as some slower hard-hitters. _______/\_____________\o/________ ____________/\________\o/________ Rotom @ Choice Scarf Trait: Levitate EVs: 4 Def / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk) - Volt Switch - Shadow Ball - Trick - Thunderbolt Rotom is probably the weakest link of this team, but at the same time it’s hard to find a good replacement for it. There simply isn’t that many spinblockers in LU, let alone spinblockers that double as revenge killers. Rotom does that good job fairly well. Volt Switch is great to gain momentum. Unfortunately there’s quite some Ground types in LU and Rotom is completely incapable of scratching one of those, namely Krookodile. Even then Rotom can still be used to gain momentum because the Ground type switch in is painfully obvious which allows you to double to Hitmonchan or Mega Abomasnow to fuck shit up. Shadow Ball and Thunderbolt are relatively weak STAB moves but after hazards and my other team members have taken its toll on a team, they can be used to clean. Trick might look like a filler move but it’s used quite a lot to screw with defensive pokemon, again paving the way for a Sharpedo sweep. EVs are really straight-forward yet again. _______/\_____________\o/________ ____________/\________\o/________ ________________/\____\o/________ Abomasnow (F) @ Abomasite Trait: Soundproof EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 Spd Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk) - Swords Dance - Ice Shard - Seed Bomb - Earthquake Mega Abomasnow is a really good and kinda underrated mon. Its defensive typing isn’t the best but it gives cool resistances to ground, electric and water mainly. This makes it relatively easy to switch in, especially given its great natural bulk. Switching into Knock Off and Sleep Power is also really invaluable. Base 132 without any boosting items doesn’t look too threatening but boy does that change after SD and hazard damage. Ice Shard has cleaned up many games for me, whereas Seed Bomb is a strong Stab to blow Water types out of the water (I swear I didn’t mean to do that). EQ gets cool coverage and Steel types and nails Mega Houndoom on the switch in. It has Soundproof because when I mega evolve I get Hail up anyway. It allows me to switch it into Exploud’s Boomburst and random Bug Buzzes which is very fun. No speed is needed on this thing so max HP coupled with max Atk is the way to go. The leftover EVs are dropped in Speed to speedcreep opposing Mega Abomasnow. _______/\_____________\o/________ ____________/\________\o/________ ________________/\____\o/________ ___________________/\_\o/________ Hitmonchan (M) @ Assault Vest Trait: Iron Fist EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SDef Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk) - Drain Punch - Mach Punch - Rapid Spin - Ice Punch If I had to pick one, Hitmonchan would be the cliché glue of the team. Thanks to Assault vest, it can switch into pretty much every Special Attacker, including the daunted Mega Houndoom. Outside of that, it doesn’t do a whole lot for this team tbh. It can launch some strong Fighting attacks which are annoying to switch into without a good resist. Ice Punch does barely more than half to Gligar but that might be enough for Sharpedo to sweep later. I like Mach Punch as a priority move to scare out Houndoom even if you’re down to like 10% alongside picking off all kinds of other mons. Thunder Punch would probably be good for Slowking because it’s actually quite annoying. Rapid Spin clears hazards off my field which Mega Abomasnow appreciates a lot. Hitmonchan consistently performs for me, even if means being the punching bag of the team from time to time. Again, this isn’t the team to find fancy EV spreads for anything. _______/\_____________\o/________ ____________/\________\o/________ ________________/\____\o/________ ___________________/\_\o/________ _______________________/\_______ Sharpedo (F) @ Life Orb Trait: Speed Boost EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spd Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk) - Waterfall - Protect - Crunch - Poison Jab Finally we get to the star of the show: Sharpedo. It needs quite some support to work and it cannot take a hit at all, but it’s still an absolutely devastating cleaner. Life Orb boosted attacks coming off a positive 120 base attack are enough to knock most frail sweepers out, and the walls that can come in are few and far between as well. When you factor in the hazard support as well, it becomes even harder to beat this thing once it gets going. The set is the standard I think. Waterfall and Crunch are strong STABs with side effects that can potentially dick you out of a lost situation. Poison Jab is the filler move which hits Grass types as well as Aromatisse who isn’t that nice for my team to face. Pro tip: give it 29 HP IVs to decrease LO damage. _______/\_____________\o/________ ____________/\________\o/________ ________________/\____\o/________ ___________________/\_\o/________ _______________________/\_______ _________SHARK ATTACK!!!_________ Conclusion: Yeah that’s it. This is a very fun team to play with and battles never last long either. There isn’t all that many threats as far as I know. Defensive variants of Rotom-H and Aromatisse are kind hard to face but there’s ways to beat them. Anyway, be sure to try this out and just get involved in LU! It’s a cool tier, give it some more love. Importable: Spoiler: importable Froslass (F) @ Focus Sash Trait: Cursed Body EVs: 4 Def / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk) - Taunt - Spikes - Shadow Ball - Ice Beam Rotom @ Choice Scarf Trait: Levitate EVs: 4 Def / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk) - Volt Switch - Shadow Ball - Trick - Thunderbolt Nidoqueen (F) @ Life Orb Trait: Sheer Force EVs: 4 Def / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk) - Earth Power - Stealth Rock - Fire Blast - Thunderbolt Sharpedo (F) @ Life Orb Trait: Speed Boost EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spd Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk) - Waterfall - Protect - Crunch - Poison Jab Abomasnow (F) @ Abomasite Trait: Soundproof EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 Spd Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk) - Swords Dance - Ice Shard - Seed Bomb - Earthquake Hitmonchan (M) @ Assault Vest Trait: Iron Fist EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SDef Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk) - Drain Punch - Mach Punch - Rapid Spin - Ice Punch
It's an alright team, there's a few amount of pretty obvious weaknesses and for a Froslass HO team, it's a bit slow overall which somewhat annoys me and there's obviously no sashes so it can't be a slow Sash offense team that trades kill for kill every time but yeah not sure what's up with this Uh I'd probably use Trick Room / Will-O-Wisp / Shadow Ball / Nasty Plot Cofagrigus as your Rotom-n replacement because your team is so slow actually. I don't want to change too much so I figured this would help. Only Normal-type in LU is Meloetta and you're fucked by that anyways, and it's a 50/50 between Psychic/Hyper Voice and shit like that because of Sharpedo but yeah. Cofagrigus @ Leftovers Trait: Mummy EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpA Nature: Quiet (+SpA, -Spe) - Shadow Ball - Nasty Plot - Will-O-Wisp - Trick Room idk man you got a slow team full of wallbreakers + sharpedo and Hitmonchan as a glue, I know a Scarfer is a nice team, but TR does offer more help I guess. If I had a chance I'd say use Lunar Dance / TR Cresselia alongside cofag and replace Hitmonchan with Emboar and call it a night but you peaked the LU ladder which is an impressive feat, although my Stall would 6-0 you dash space lord
i'm not a terribly big fan of a bunch of frail sweepers or sash teams, but yeah i guess it's a bit atypical and maybe not ideal. but it works decently so yeah. giving this team tr twists seems like a very fun idea though and it sounds very interesting to mess around with that some more but i don't think it would feel like the same team at all anymore. that doesn't have to be a bad thing though! anyway thanks for the rate n_n
