We've all sustained injuries at some point in our lives of varying magnitudes and some have suffered more than others, but what is the absolute worst injury you have received during the tenure of your life? I was 3 years old, and going to nursery at the time. We were located in a building very similar to a leisure centre with a solid concrete floor. There was a large collection of toys set up for us during our break time, one of which was a large climbing frame. I was a daring child, climbing to the top of the structure and I foolishly decided to sit down at the peak. The next thing I know, I felt a hand push me and I fell to the floor, smashing the back of my head. There were no tears or screams, only the thud of my skull colliding with the floor as I was knocked senseless. I'm very surprised I didn't get any brain damage from my fall. I remember becoming conscious slightly when my mum came to take me to the hospital before falling unconscious again. Then I was in A and E and I was told I had a fairly severe concussion. Honourable mention goes to a torn calf muscle in my right legand a broken nose on a stepping stone. While both were painful, I think the memory of my concussion (what I retain of it) has impacted me the most throughout the duration of my life, reminding me that risks have every chance to go wrong and to exhibit more caution in my behaviour. What is the worst injury you have sustained and how has it impacted your life?
Fortunately I've never had a major injury- first thing I can think of is this one time I'd fallen over in a basketball game and a player from the other team stumbled over me and wound up stepping on my head. Really fucking hurt, but I ended up with only a bit of a concussion from it- I even subbed back into the game after sitting out for a bit. I think of it more because it was recent and the most pain I can remember experiencing, than anything. Probably the worst injury I had was a torn ligament in my right ankle, which came about after a series of really bad rolls over the course of about 2 weeks. Normally when I roll my ankle (which happens regularly when I play bball) I can just sit out for bit, get some ice and then I'm good to play again. That's what I did the first time I rolled it, but each time I did it would get worse and worse until I would limp for a couple days afterword (and ofc I was off the court for a good deal longer). The thing that's impacted me the most isn't an injury exactly, it's patella tendonitis (basically one of the tendons in my knees has worn out). For about a year and a half now I've had issues with it and it's kept me from playing basketball for most of that period. All because I'm fucking hypermobile. It's a huge deal because basketball's pretty god damn important to me.
Even though I do sports that might theoretically be nasty injury-wise (rugby, climbing), I've never really had any super bad injuries. My worst might be smashing my chin on gravel when I was little, playing games. I was also hit by a car, but I didn't really feel anything. Within a year of that, I had a skim with a bus, which left all sorts of fun-shaped scars all along my right arm. That has had more of an impact on my life. I am a lot more careful with crossing the road, and more careful in general after that. I'm not chancing a third time, because I feel my luck will run out sooner or later.
Due to abnormal growth of my feet bones after i hit puberty (an actual neuropathy) i had to undergo surgery a few years after, at the age of 16. For some reason, the surgery consisted of breaking most of my right foot bones (the one who was worse) and fixing the broken foot into a normal shape, then place some metal clips inside it. So the injury was actually done during the surgery, and because i only had local anaesthesia, i could hear the doctor and nurses throughout the whole 2 and a half hour procedure. Post-surgery was a bit painful. An accident of greater pain, but with much less time of recovery, was when i dislocated my left kneecap while playing Football (the real one, not Handegg) at age 17, and it twisted on a 180º degree turn to the back of my knee. I panicked, but they told me i had to put it in place asap because if the area got cold, it would hurt more when the doctor fixed it. So i punched the kneecap a bunch of times to its place, biting on some piece of wood a friend of mine gave me. The doctor didnt even have to fix it, it was already done. Ever since then, i came to enjoy small degrees of pain on my body, mostly non-self-inflicted, and never to cause permanent damage. Both incidents changed my overview in life, mostly the juvenily thought that bad things only happen to others and the real injuries are only showed on news channels.
some dentist ripped out my flesh and took my wisdom out of my mouth and then they gave me a plastic tube and told me to clean the wound every day bastards
Worst injury I can remember is when I crashed Skiing, and the Ski bumped into my nose and left eye. Somehow it didn't break my nose, but I had a huge gash (which I still have the scar from) and a massive black eye.
I broke my left arm while playing football once (also the real thing, not handegg). I did play through the rest of the match, not knowing it was broken. My coach was yelling at me because I basically wasn't doing anything anymore lol, but we had no subs. So I was just kind of staying in the middle, clutching my arm and trying to be of use. It hurt like hell but I really didn't think it was too serious. It was only after we arrived at the hospital and the doctor told me it was broken that I started crying. I was 11 years old at the time and I think the realisation that my arm was broken scared me so much that I had to cry. I also got hit by a car once when I was on the way home from school on my bike and got flung onto the road. Luckily there were no cars on that lane and I only had some scratches. The guy was very shocked and friendly and his insurance took care of the bike and all :P
I was dumb of signing up for the wrestling team... My first tournament during warm-ups a guy took me down and my leg broke, oh my god it hurt so bad! The worst part is nobody felt bad for me... They said it'd take 3 months to heal but it ended up taking up 6 months... I mean what the hell!
Happened almost 2 and a half years ago. Had an accident at home where the window glass broke, and cut my hand. Received a couple of stitches, and i still have a Y mark on my left arm due to the consequence of the stitching..Aw yeah, still tickles if i touch it xD :3
Never broken any bones, but i've had a couple of instances that weren't any fun. We were playing Capture The Flag in my neighbour hood, and I was trying to get away from some people, ran down this narrow path and someone had layed barbed wire from two trees about waist high, ran straight into that and cut my stomach in multiple spots, no shot needed. Went down a hill with a bike that had no brakes thinking I could stop it with my foot, was going to fast so I couldnt without hurting my foot, ended up hitting a median at the bottom of the hill and landing into some blackberry bushes. Cuts and such werent that bad but they stung. :(
I accidentally broke a glass and cut one side of my hand entirely, it was bleeding non-stop and the wound was open and deep enough as to get infected in a matter of 24 hours or so, but I was taken inmediately to the hospital. Another big Injury I had was when I was peeling a carrot with a knife that was made to cut meat...not vegetables, it accidentally slipped out and cut 1/4 of my right thumb vertically. Scary and painful as fuck.
