Yes, yet another project :D (Well, more like a thread to discuss this new feature)

Theme Authors can now add a "tips" section to their themes, which can be read by typing /tips [theme]. Having those tips won't hurt, so obviously it would be ideal that all themes that it, so the point here is discussing what you guys think is a good way to use this. For example:

-How many lines should the tips have? (reminder that typing /tips will show the full tips list for the theme, they cannot be filtered).
-Tips by role or by side?
-Which type of tips are good and what should be avoided?
    -etc.

The idea here is to discuss hints and ideas to write a good /tips text. If you have suggestions for tips for a specific theme, it's advised that you post them on the Theme's thread.

I will begin by saying how I plan on writing those for my themes.
I'm probably going to take a different approach according to the theme. For themes like Kirby and Weapons, that have important central roles, I will probably take a per-role approach, while themes like SSBB and Rotom, that have lots of different roles/sides will require per-side tips.

I'm thinking at most 6 lines per theme, and I want to avoid tips like "Ice should protect Mike N1" to not disencourage alternative strategies (a possible alternative strategy to that would be "Ask both Parasols to protect you N1 and Ice save for N2, so you are more likely to be safe against Mace/TAC"), so it will probably be something like "Parasols and Ice can protect with different intervals, so organize them carefully", although I can see why people (especially beginners) would want more direct tips.

And you? How do you plan on using it? Or how do you think it's a good way to write the tips?

For AOT, I gave tips about each character, as well as general role archetypes (like I put a whole tip for characters in 3-D mode). I also put a general tip on claiming, as to when it's safe to claim or not (ie what roles need to be dead).

(10:58:40) Krista: Spam your /distract command. Ymir can hax it.

    Format like this.

I personally like making tips that tell you the optimal way to play a role or in a certain situation, but people might have different perceptions of to what level players we're writing these tips or. For instance, I notice that revealing samurais going for the kill early on usually results in a village loss, so I write in Myth:

(11:01:14) Samurai: IF YOU ARE ACHILLES, DO NOT KILL DAY 1 (unless for some reason you know Hades/Kronos).

Obviously this isn't a set-in-stone case but as the theme author that's my opinion. So that's another problem, the theme author technically can put in whatever tips (s)he wants but people may not necessarily agree with their perspective, which might be a line of discussion to address in the theme thread proper if people don't like the tips being given.

Six lines seems like a good threshold.

Village: Due to the amount of enemy daykills, neither Lumineon nor the Finneon Inspector can safely claim.
Village: If there are no more Mantykes and Remoraid has been revealed, vote him off.
Chinchous: If you find one of your allies, PM THEM AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. This is your only real form of connecting.
Chinchous: (if Shiny Chinchou is in play) If you find Lanturn, tell him who the Shiny Chinchou is as Lanturn can kill him.
Alliance: In large games, please be aware that Relicanth can reveal himself with the exact same reveal message as Remoraid. Be cautious.
Alliance: Octillery should only day-kill if he is certain to win after killing someone or he has been revealed.
Alliance: Connection is crucial for you. If you find one of your partners, PM THEM AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. If Remoraid reveals himself, make sure you PM him so you can be connected with your team.
Toxic Fishes: Dragalge only has three kills per game and should only be used when absolutely necessary.

Just some tips I wrote up for Chinchous. I may add some more later for the other sides such as Relicanth, Luvdisc, Floatzel, and the Ugly Ducklings.

Closed setup themes would do nicely with these. They're a bit tougher to play than most themes, so some more explanation is cool.

Went ahead and added tips sections for KI and DN. I've actually had a section in KI for ages, but never expanded it outside of Pit til now. Just gonna post the coding because too lazy to separate the coding stuff on a phone.

Well, I don't like tips that enforce a single type of strategy, like FF's "don't kill D1 if you are Cloud". Of course, they are tips, not guidelines, but at the very least they could be something like "It's not advised to kill D1", if anything so people won't keep saying "Didn't you read the /tips?" or stuff like that as if it was a rule.

I have been seeing some really redundant tips, like "Bodyguard should protect the important roles". That's basically the reason that every BG exists, so the tips should, IMO, tell about specific cases for the BG of that theme.

For Village vs. Mafia themes, I have been writing a "Who claims" tip and a "Main Threats", since that's something that most players would like to know when they first play a theme.
