    Avalon: The Ever-distant Utopia
    A Random Battle team
"No one can harm the tranquil King that stands in the land of Avalon." ~Fate/Complete Material III

Perhaps one of the most irritating things in Pokemon is the luck involved. Every day, in every battle, we face the issue of trusting that 85% Acc Fire Blast to do its job and pull through, or hope to Arceus that bloody crit did not just destroy the defensive core. These events are known in statistical terms to be an outlier, an abnormality that has a low chance of happening but can still happen through sheer happenstance.

Most of us just call it hax.

This hax is what I sought to defeat through my team, Avalon. With Evasion Clause and Sleep Clause off, and Item Clause on, Random Battle thrives on hax in Gen 6. I had to make myself impervious to hax, or at least close enough to being impervious that I wouldn't lose due to it.

But enough about my motivations for creating the team. Here are the details of my achievements. On the third day of my return, I joined my first Random Battle tournament and controversially won with the (still unperfected) team. Then, I laddered until I was bored half to death and realised I reached #10, at 1326 points under my new alt, [Hero]Starfall. Personally, I feel I could have gone higher, but I've lost most of my passion for laddering due to decay and real life.

In any case, here is my proof of victory :)

    History
I always loved Sash abuse in RB, so when Gen 6 and Item Clause came around, I was rather upset. Nonetheless, I proceeded to make a half-baked team...

    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG][IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

    That didn't end well.
So I started again, from the very beginning, with the one Pokemon I knew I had to have.

Sableye was, and is, one of the largest and underestimated threats in the RB meta. However, though it could do all sorts of things, taking on the new Mega Gengar was not one of them. So I went and picked a nice pink blob. The fat one.

    [IMG] [IMG]

Then I needed some rushdown Pokemon who could be badass and deal plenty of damage. Who else but the awesome Mega Gengar himself?

    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

I added a few more inclusions that are honestly not worth mentioning in hindsight, but I ended with this:

[IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

So I tinkered around the drawing board and theorymon'ed that I had all my bases covered. I was wrong. Something was lacking from this team. So I realised that I had Togekiss no longer worked as a good 'Mon in RB. Maybe I was being too nostalgic, and it was preventing me from taking Togekiss off before, but I made up my mind to make the best team I could. So I remodelled and took off everyone but the 3 Ghost-types.

    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

These guys were doing the best out of the 6 Pokemon, so I decided to give them a chance to prove themselves. I decided Kangaskhan was a nice addition to an offensive team, and that Conkeldurr was a good way to punch my way out of any situation. I gave the last spot to a Pokemon I used to loath, Talonflame. It had a good STAB and priority, so I asked myself, "Why not put away all that sentimental bull and just put this team together?"

[IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

And boy was it awesome. I shot up to 1200s in a matter of hours and 1300s after another two days of grinding. Virtually nothing slowed my ascent, let alone stop me stone cold. Then of course, I realised laddering on a dead tier was wasting so much time and I stopped at #10.

So here it is, my team, named in tribute to my Fate/Stay Night-themed RMT.

    A closer look...

    Jeanne d'Arc

    Ruler (Kangaskhan) (F) @ Kangaskhanite
    Trait: Scrappy
    EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
    Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
    - Return
    - Fire Punch/Fake Out/Power-up-Punch
    - Earthquake
    - Sucker Punch

    Details:

Kanga is just ridiculous. She should be banned. Yes, I'm advocating for one of my key members of my team to be banned because of the sheer madness she can cause. Once she mega evolves, 105/100/100 defences keep her alive and well and capable of spamming more Returns. 125 Atk with an ability that acts as a Choice Band is even more unbelievable. But why, Champ X, are you boring us with all these details we already know about?
    Because of these:
252 Atk Parental Bond Mega Kangaskhan Fire Punch vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Mega Scizor: 192-228 (108.4 - 128.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO
    252+ Atk Technician Mega Scizor Bullet Punch vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Mega Kangaskhan: 63-75 (34.8 - 41.4%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252 Atk Parental Bond Mega Kangaskhan Sucker Punch vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Mega Gengar: 162-192 (119.1 - 141.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
    252 Atk Parental Bond Mega Kangaskhan Earthquake vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Mega Gengar: 201-237 (147.7 - 174.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
    252 SpA Mega Gengar Sludge Bomb vs. 4 HP / 4 SpD Mega Kangaskhan: 93-111 (51.3 - 61.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
    252 SpA Mega Gengar Focus Blast vs. 4 HP / 4 SpD Mega Kangaskhan: 166-196 (91.7 - 108.2%) -- 50% chance to OHKO
That's right, only a 50% chance to wipe it out, and that's not even taking into account you've already been Sucker Punched.

    252 Atk Parental Bond Mega Kangaskhan Return vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Multiscale Dragonite: 67-79 (40.1 - 47.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
    252 Atk Parental Bond Mega Kangaskhan Return vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Dragonite: 135-159 (80.8 - 95.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
    252+ Atk Dragonite Outrage vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Mega Kangaskhan: 115-136 (63.5 - 75.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
    252+ Atk Dragonite Extreme Speed vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Mega Kangaskhan: 51-61 (28.1 - 33.7%) -- 0.3% chance to 3HKO

I think that is all I need to say.

    Moves:

Return is a literal STABbing attack that murders. Earthquake takes care of anything which dares to resist. Sucker Punch is for suckers who try to attack this behemoth. The last move is really up to the user. If you feel Scizor threatens your team, pick Fire Punch. If Sableye is a thorn in your back, Fake Out before Mega Evolving. If you feel greedy and want to humiliate your opponent, PuP is a great way to have some fun. The carnage this girl can do is endless! :)

    EVs:
Nothing to really say about them. Max Speed to tie with pesky Charizards in Mega Form and max Attack to kill things.

    Sir William Shakespeare

    Caster (Sableye) (F) @ Leftovers
    Trait: Prankster
    EVs: 252 HP / 116 Def / 140 SDef
    Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
    - Recover
    - Will-O-Wisp
    - Taunt
    - Foul Play

    Details:

Sableye, aka Klefki's well-mannered cousin who doesn't rely on Swagger. It's easy, fun and totally effective to use him against any non-Fire physical sweeper. Especially Kanga. He has all the tools to make some noise; reliable recovery, moderate bulk, Prankster and of course, WoW. The sheer pressure he gives by existing on my team is invaluable. Sableye makes the opponent cautious about choosing walls and more than likely sends out a special attacker just to deal with him.

    Moves:

Recover is reliable and so much fun. If you feel like trolling or just survivng for a few more turns and watch that burn deal some more damage, Recover's got that covered for you. WoW is WoW, and its 85 Acc means even more carnage this generation. Sure, it's not exactly reliable, but that's where Recover or EV investment comes in to save the day. Taunt shuts down walls and takes a dump on any Pokemon that tries to set up on Sableye. It also ensures no one uses Substitute to escape WoW. However, due to RB's nature, it's best not to waste a turn on Taunt unless you're absolutely sure your opponent's not going to attack you. Foul Play is Sableye's only way of dealing direct damage, but that's really all he needs. Be careful of Gengar though, since it's only 2KOed by Foul Play.

    EVs:
252 HP for maximum bulk, 116 Def to be 4KOed by burned Kanga's Earthquake, and 2KOed by non-burned Kanga. 140 SpDef gives something that resembles Special bulk, but anything too powerful such as Mega Gengar tears him apart.

    Heracles

Berserker (Conkeldurr) (M) @ Assault Vest
    Trait: Guts
    EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
    Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
    - Drain Punch
    - Knock Off
    - Ice Punch/Bulk Up
    - Mach Punch

    Details:

There are few Pokemon that can boast tanking a STAB move from a base 170 SpA Pokemon and retaliating with a 1HKO. Conkeldurr is one of them and his retaliation is oh so painful. Virtually nothing can 1HKO this tank outside of Brave Birds and Psychic-types. Then you slap the Assault Vest and all of a sudden, Conkeldurr becomes a royal nightmare. Here are just some calculations of his awesomness:
    252 SpA Mega Gengar Shadow Ball vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Assault Vest Conkeldurr: 78-93 (36.7 - 43.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
    52 SpA Mega Gengar Sludge Bomb vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Assault Vest Conkeldurr: 88-105 (41.5 - 49.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
    4 SpA Togekiss Air Slash vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Assault Vest Conkeldurr: 96-114 (45.2 - 53.7%) -- 32.8% chance to 2HKO
    252+ SpA Life Orb Yanmega Air Slash vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Assault Vest Conkeldurr: 159-190 (75 - 89.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 SpA Alakazam Psychic vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Assault Vest Conkeldurr: 150-176 (70.7 - 83%) -- guaranteed 2HKO (yes, you read that right)

    Moves:

Drain Punch is the STAB of choice and the one that punches holes in opponents easily. The HP regained is very, very welcomed as well. Knock Off deals with Ghost or Psychic-types, and is an all-around good move to spam if you're iffy about Drain Punch. Ice Punch is a good reply to Yanmega, DNite, Gliscor, Togekiss and Salamence, while Bulk Up lets you survive hits such as Blaziken's Hi Jump Miss easier and give more of an oomph to Mach Punch. Speaking of Mach Punch, it's a good priority move, but Conkeldurr is slow as a worm and the only thing it's really going to do well against are stuff such as Sash Cloyster and other useless relics of the past. If your opponent packs a priority move, it would be best to bank on surviving the hit and clicking the Drain Punch icon.

    EVs:
252 HP for maximum bulk, 252 Atk cuz rawr and 4 SpDef cuz idk. The 4 isn't even needed for tanking, to be honest.

    King Arthur Pendragon (Arturia Pendragon)

Saber (Aegislash) (F) @ Occa Berry
    Trait: Stance Change
    EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def
    Brave Nature (+Atk, -Spd)
    - Shadow Sneak
    - King's Shield
    - Sacred Sword
    - Shadow Claw

    Details:

Aegislash is really one of those love-it-or-hate-it Pokemon. It (how can a sword be female, or be of any gender, pray tell) looks cool enough, but it can get broken really fast in the right hands. My goal is to make my opponent hate Aegislash as much as possible. And to be honest, its titanic defences and attack makes it really easy for me to do so. Occa Berry is the item of choice because of Talonflame, Mega Charizard Y and Blaziken, all annoyingly plentiful in a tier where Aegislash could have dominated. It tones 1HKOs down to 2KOs and gives me a window of opportunity to Shadow Claw their faces off. Speaking of Talonflame and company...
    252 Atk Choice Band Talonflame Flare Blitz vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Occa Berry Aegislash-Shield: 79-94 (47.3 - 56.2%) -- 82% chance to 2HKO
    252 SpA Mega Charizard Y Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Occa Berry Aegislash-Shield in Sun: 115-136 (68.8 - 81.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
    252+ Atk Mega Blaziken Flare Blitz vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Occa Berry Aegislash-Shield: 93-111 (55.6 - 66.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
And I can hit back with:
    252+ Atk Aegislash-Blade Shadow Claw vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Talonflame: 97-115 (62.9 - 74.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
    252+ Atk Aegislash-Blade Shadow Claw vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Mega Blaziken: 88-105 (56.7 - 67.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
    252+ Atk Aegislash-Blade Shadow Claw vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Mega Charizard Y: 90-106 (58.4 - 68.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
The only Fire-type that I can't slaughter outright is Charizard Y, but even that is heavily dented after Claw+Sneak damage.

    Moves:

I don't recommend switching any move out since they work so well together in RB. Shadow Sneak is what most people call "the dick move", in which I click the icon and something dies before they can attack me. Moreover, with that lovely Steel/Ghost typing, most priority users can't even dent Aegislash before dying a horrible death. King's Shield is a messed-up version of Protect. I don't like it per say, since it leaves me open to set-ups and statuses, but it changes Aegislash back to Shield form, and that's crucial. Sacred Sword is there instead of STAB Iron Head because of Kangaskhan. Sacred Sword comfortably KOs that monster while EQ only 2KOs Aegislash. Iron Head is rather uselss outside of punishing the random Delibird or Regice that pops up. But hey, that's what teammates are for. Shadow Claw is STAB and gives that sweet high crit ratio may or may not help me one day. It eats stuff like Gengar and lolAlakazam for breakfast. It also makes Talonflame think twice before Flare Blitzing me.

    EVs:
252 HP for maximum bulk, 252 Atk for carnage and 4 Def for the off chance some Flare Blitz crit from Talonflame hits me, and I have a higher chance of not dying.

    Vlad III aka Dracula

Lancer (Mega Gengar) (M) @ Gengarite
    Trait: Shadow Tag
    EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
    Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
    - Shadow Ball
    - Sludge Bomb
    - Sucker Punch
    - Destiny Bond

    Details:

The only Special Attacker I have on the team, and he's earned its place here ever since my first battle with him. While his SpA and Speed is devastating and can knock quite a few Pokemon down with ease, its most useful ability lies in one of his moves, Destiny Bond. Physical walls such as Skarmory are usually small fry for Sableye, but when it comes to tanks such as Conkeldurr (ohgawd) or Arceus forbid, Gliscor, Mega Gengar clutches the chance well and heroically sacrifices himself for the greater good.

    Moves:

Shadow Ball + Sludge Bomb is a potent combo resisted by nothing now that Steel has been nerfed to hell and back. That means, in layman terms, I get to nuke things. Sucker Punch seems to be a strange choice, but it is because it is strange that I use it. No one seems to remember or believe me when I say that Gengar has a priority move for some reason, despite at one point, I had outright told my opponent I had one. Oh well, here's a refresher. Sucker Punch exists. And it may be weak, but a <20% Aegislash trying to Shadow Sneak me may claim otherwise. Any other Pokemon nuked and left with a sliver of health would scream in horror at this move.
    (0- Atk Mega Gengar Sucker Punch vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Aegislash-Shield: 28-34 (16.7 - 20.3%) -- possible 7HKO after Leftovers recovery)
Destiny Bond, in tandem with Shadow Tag, means outside of outspeeding Gengar, PP stalling (can that even happen when I have 170 SpA...?) and Baton Passing, I get a free kill in exchange for sacrificing Gengar. Not a bad trade, especially when I get kills on Conkeldurr or Gliscor (who could in theory SubProtect spam, but Shadow Ball puts an end to that madness). Use this with caution, however, since it is one of the most well-known moves Gengar has and could backfire horribly on you if say, DNite starts Dragon Dancing.

    EVs:
252 SpA for maximum boom, 252 Spd to outrun most things. 4 HP cuz nowhere else to put them.

    Gilgamesh

Archer (Talonflame) (M) @ Sky Plate
    Trait: Gale Wings
    EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 Spd
    Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
    - Brave Bird
    - Flare Blitz
    - U-turn
    - Tailwind

    Details:

If I had the artistic ability, I would write a Shakespearean sonnet on how wonderful spamming Brave Bird is, but since I've got no talent for anything of that sort, here's a haiku instead:

    Keep clicking Brave Bird,
    And ignore all other moves,
    They do not exist.

    Moves:

Well, not really. BB is the move you'll be spamming the most, and you probably won't touch the others much. Unless we're talking about Aegislash or some rabid Steel-type that dares stand in BB's way and you have no one to switch to safely. Then shift gears and burn them until not even their elementary particles remain. U-Turn does not exist, nor does Tailwind. That is all.
But seriously, Talonflame's job is to slaughter things weak or neutral to BB, and switch to blitzing when it fails. It's the most straightforward Pokemon in the team and takes next to no skill playing it. That's exactly why I hated it and exactly why I like it now. :)

    EVs:
252 Atk because power. 248 HP to maximise amount of BB/FB spamming while surviving priority attacks. 8 Spd so that I outrun 4 Spd Talonflame sets. But to be honest, with everyone running 252 Spd for some unknown reason, it's not going to come into play much.

    Conclusion

Thanks to all who took their time to read my rambles and stuff! I hope this RMT can help offer insight into the current RB meta and help promote this tier for others. I would like to call out to Crobat for being a bro and helping me remember to do this, KyogreF4N for making PO fun again (ALL HAIL OGRE!) and all other [Hero] members for giving me such a warm welcome! :D
So erm, here's the importable. Steal, snatch, TM46 it if you want, and modify whatever you wish to modify. Have fun with it!
    Cheers,
    Champ X

Champ X! I know I'm horribly late, but it's nice to see you got around to making an RB RMT for this gen! Sadly, I haven't played Random Battle (or almost any tier for that matter) since Gen 5 so I don't really have any experience or suggestions, but it definitely looks like a solid team. I especially love the Conkeldurr, as I used to use one myself on some of my older teams. The 252 HP on Talonflame might also catch some people by surprise (which I like) and I honestly think it helps you more than others might expect since you have Gale Wings for priority on Brave Bird and a blazing base 126 speed.
