Too many cute Goodra pics. == General == *Stupidly bulky on the special side. *Equally ridiculous movepool *Pure Dragon typing *Relatively frail on the physical side. *None too fast. *Pseudo *Three very interesting abilities, none of which you'd expect on a Dragon, and one signature ability in Gooey, which is fun. == Squishy Offensive == Goodra @ Assault Vest Ability: Sap Sipper / Gooey EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SAtk Modest / Quiet nature -Draco Meteor / Dragon Pulse -Fire Blast / Flamethrower -Sludge Bomb -Thunderbolt / Dragon Tail / Power Whip *Takes advantage of the wide movepool and obscene special bulk. Creates a great offensive tank. *Assault Vest buffs its already amazing Special Defence to 504 when uninvested. Combine with 384 HP for serious tankage. *Draco Meteor for power, Dragon Pulse if you don't like switching. *Fire Blast is primary coverage; perfect in LU alongside Dragon STAB apart from the never seen Carbink. Flamethrower can be used instead for reliability. *Sludge Bomb hits Fairies, however Aromatisse is the only notable target. *Thunderbolt hits bulky Waters, and can also hit Flying-types if you don't want to spam Draco Meteor just yet. Dragon Tail phazes stuff while dealing damage - works well on hazard stacking teams. Power Whip is listed almost solely for Water/Grounds like Swampert, Gastrodon etc, because they annoy Goodra. *If using a physical move in slot 4, Sap Sipper is the recommended ability. If not, Gooey is usually superior because of the Speed reduction it gives to opponents that make contact. Sap Sipper is still good without physical moves if you need a Sleep Powder absorber however. Gooey Goodra can consider Speed investment. Fully special sets should go Modest, while mixed go Quiet. *EVs are simple and obvious; max overall bulk and power. == Choice Specs == Goodra @ Choice Specs Ability: Gooey / Sap Sipper EVs: 4 Def / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd Modest nature -Draco Meteor -Fire Blast / Flamethrower -Sludge Bomb -Thunderbolt *Very similar to the last set, but plays differently by breaking walls instead of tanking. *Gooey + Speed investment makes Goodra very 'fast'. Can force switches well. Sap Sipper's still useable for Grass immunity however. *Moves are basically the same, although only Draco Meteor is listed for STAB this time. *Can go Timid to be even 'faster' (taking Gooey into account), but Modest is preferred for power. == Other Options == *Fully defensive sets - usually overkill on Special bulk. *Mixed sweeping sets. Fully physical sets. *Rain + Rest sets. Good with Drizzle support. Rain Dance + Thunder. *Curse? *Ice Beam, Muddy Water, Focus Blast, Sludge Wave. *Counter. *Scarf, Leftovers. == Checks and Counters == *Fairies are immune to main STAB, but aren't bulky enough to take Sludge Bombs. Even Max HP/SDef Aromatisse takes 36.9 - 43.8% from first set, which is death after Poison + SR damage. *AV Snorlax isn't threatened by any hit, and can retaliate with physical hits until it dies. Same applies to AV Meloetta, however its special moves won't do so much. AV Escavalier won't like Fire Blast, so it doesn't counter. Can Pursuit trap locked in Choice sets though. *Faster physical Dragons like Flygon and Tyrantrum can hit hard with their STABs, however they can't switch in. Same goes for Ice-types, however physical ones other than Cloyster are rare, and Avalugg (the only other common one) is far too slow. Ice-type coverage moves work well though, with users like Machamp and Electivire hitting hard with them. *Obscure Steels like Probopass can't be hit for SE damage (by any common move), and can wear Goodra down over time. Lack recovery though. *Fast, strong physical hits are the best way to bring Goodra down, however exercise caution when bringing the physical attacker in, and be aware that Gooey may cripple the attacker.
A bit early to know of alternate EV spreads that work best but definitely mention Earthquake in the Assault Vest set. It helps you muscle past Tentacruel while giving you something to hit Sub CM Raikou and not giving it a chance to tap you to death with HP, generally hurts Houndoom and does the same damage as Fire Blast to Magnezone without a chance to miss. Of course mention that you need quiet with this, and it could probably replace Power Whip. Water/grounds are annoying but you can cover that elsewhere. On that same note I think you should slash in Flamethrower with Fire Blast: unless you're missing out on OHKOs or are doing 85%+ damage with Fire Blast over flamethrower it doesn't seem worth the miss chance. These are just preliminary suggestions so I can be wrong, these are just things I've noticed.
Yeah, Earthquake definitely seems legit, especially at +1. I have it in OO atm, but it could be worth at least set comments. As for some calcs: 252+ SpA Goodra Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Tangrowth: 406-478 (100.4 - 118.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO 252+ SpA Goodra Flamethrower vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Tangrowth: 332-392 (82.1 - 97%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery 252+ SpA Goodra Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Cryogonal: 136-162 (39.5 - 47%) -- 96.1% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery 252+ SpA Goodra Flamethrower vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Cryogonal: 112-134 (32.5 - 38.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery Seems to be making a worthwhile difference in theory, though admittedly I just threw these ones in there. *shrugs*
I'd give mixed and physical sets a mention in OO, as it has a decent base 100 attack stat and a great physical movepool. I'll also second the slashing in of Flamethrower with Fire Blast. Apart from that this looks good. What do @Afro Smash and @meepsvictory think?
hello yes i would mention physical and mixed moveset but i guess you added it. prob mention more specifcally what moves, like power whip eq, etc. p decent power with sap sipper boost. and what not not sure how necessary max speed on specs set is, maybe could run none at all or enough to speed creep modest nidoqueen maybe. i dont know what in particular max speed may outspeed. also with no bulk goodra really wont take physical hits well making it have a tough time taking advtange of gooey (and some common physical attackers may have sufficient non-contact physical attacks to do significant damage to goodra). i really only see it useful for entei maybe, and even with little speed investment goodra can outspeed -1 entei. yeah all i can think of for now
Hmm, that's a fair point you've got. I just put max Speed in for a placeholder really, as there was bound to be someone who had a better spread out there. 160 HP / 252 SAtk / 96 Spd takes Goodra to 220, which comfortably outruns -1 Jolly Entei (and also any neutral base 115s hanging around, but I don't think you'll see any of those). Sound like a good idea? Oh, and I've got Power Whip as the last slash on the first set rather than in OO. Would you also prefer Earthquake there?
I've been runnign Assault Vest Goodra in LU to great effect. The set I've been using is: Assault Vest 252 hp/252 sp atk/ 4def -Dragon Pulse -Thunderbolt -Fire Blast -Focus Blast I honestly feel like with Florges gone, Sludge Bomb has no place on any Goodra set anymore, Instead I've found Focus Blast to be far more useful to ohko Houndoom, Krook and 2/3hko Lax.
You raise a good point with Sludge Bomb, with only Aromatisse and Granbull being vaguely common (though if Aroma rises to take Florges' place, it may seem needed again). I'm happy with switching those around if other QC guys agree?
ya sludge bomb prob isn't too necessary also every physical entei is adamant cuz flare blitz/espeed (and literally every set runs espeed) so i think 200 speed or w/e will be sufficient. power whip is prob fine on first set slashed rather eq
Ohh, fair point on Entei. Completely forgot about it being stuck as Adamant. ._. So 240 HP / 252 SAtk / 16 Spd Modest is good for the Specs set? Or are there any faster Speed points worth considering?
