    Server Tournaments: A How To Guide On Various Things (Windows/Mac)

    This is a guide for new players to server tournaments. Daily there are new players who ask a variety of questions on how to do things regarding tournaments, and this is a guide with steps on how to join the tournaments community and participate while hopefully answering various queries we see.

    Tournament Sign Ups:

    [IMG]

    Whenever a tournament begins the sign up phase, a message will appear (as pictured), in both Tohjo Falls and the Tournaments channel. This is your chance to get a team loaded and participate in the tournament.

    In the above circle, there are things to note. The first is that normally the border is grey, those are normal single elimination tournaments, as pictured is what is known as an event tournament which is a double elimination tournament. Normal sign ups are only 5 minutes long, where as event sign ups are 10 minutes. The clauses that must be active are also listed in the sign up message that will need to be active when you battle your opponents. Make note of these things when joining.

    Entering the Tournaments Channel:

    [IMG]

    The first method of joining the channel is clicking the blue hyperlink that comes with the sign ups message. It's a quick way to auto enter the channel, is the easiest way to get there. Alternatively, you can type #Tournaments to get to the channel in the chat. Both methods work and serve the same purpose.
    OR

    [IMG]

    The second way of getting to the tournaments channel is through the channel tab! Go to the channels tab and search all the way down to find the Tournaments channel and double-click it. Note the channel is called Tournaments with an "s", so that is the correct one to enter.

    The Tournaments Channel:

    [IMG]

    This will be the first image you see when you enter the tournaments channel. There is a welcome topic like in all main channels, this will contain vital information for you to use when playing tournaments, don't overlook it. The second thing is a board, this will list the next Event Tournament, Upcoming Tournament(s), Tournaments in sign-ups, and the next day's Event. Both topic and tournament intro-board will tell you how to use the command to view the command and rules in tournaments.

    Joining A Tournament:

    [IMG]

    Remember this image for joining a tournament, as it will pertain information you need to join. In it, there are the clauses for the tournament and the tier of the tournament you will be playing.

    [IMG]

    If you try to join a tournament without a proper team, you will get the first message. The tour system is set to know what tier your teams are set in, and will recognize you don't have a proper one to join. If you do have a proper team, you can join, and you'll get the second circled message. It'll bold your user name and tell you that you have joined. The timer after that is how long until sign ups close and the tournament actually begins. After each exponent of two to join (I.E. 8, 16, 32, 64, 128) the timer goes back up to allow the new bracket that gets made to fill.

    Changing/Locating Tiers:

    [IMG]

    If you get a message saying something on your team is banned, it will tell you a reason via a bot saying: *Insert Pokemon name here* is banned from *Insert Tier Here* because of the following: *Insert reason*. The reasons can be because the Pokemon is banned, an item is banned, an ability is banned, or maybe due to a universal move being banned. Consulting our wiki will give you a list of pokemon viable to the tiers if you look and follow the links to the Gen/Tier you want to see a list for.

    [IMG]

    If you need to change your tier, but are unsure where to do so. You can do it either from your teambuilder where there is a box saying "Tier". OR, you can go to your toolbar and find where it has a drop down option for "Tiers", then search for the tier you want. All them are straight forward, the above image shows where you can find "Fun Tiers" like Challenge Cup or Battle Factory, while the below image shows where you can find "Side Tiers" like Monotype or 1v1 Tiers.

    [IMG]

    Playing in a Tournament/Battling:

    [IMG]

    When a tournament begins, you will see a bracket with your name "HIGHLIGHTED" and your opponent right next to yours. If your opponent is a sub, that means it is a placeholder and you don't have an opponent unless someone joins late. NOTE: You do have to challenge your opponent, and maintain activity in the channel. Failure to do either can result in a DQ.

    [IMG]

    To challenge your opponent, you need to find their name off to the sidebar, and right click their name. Then, the option to challenge will appear with a box that has a series of options.

    [IMG]

    In order to successfully challenge an opponent, you need to click on the corresponding box that has tiers on their teams for the tournament being played, checkmark the necessary clauses for the tournament remember the first image at the start of this, it'll tell you the needed clauses to check, and you need to "uncheckmark" any unnecessary clauses except for the option of disallow specs. Before sending the challenge you can select a different team from the bottom, if you have multiple teams loaded that are in the tier being played.

    Double Elimination Tournaments:

    [IMG]

    Double elimination tournaments are of course, tournaments where you have to lose twice to be eliminated. There is a loser's bracket after the first round, so do not leave the channel as you still have a chance to win! People who leave the channel are designated by the red highlighting a player's name. Yellow/Orange denoted a player who has left the tier, so you will need to get back into the tier to continue playing. See above on how to do quickly!

    Getting Authority Help:

    [IMG]

    If your battle has not started yet, the bot will notify you that you must do two things. The first is keeping active in the channel. The system runs on a DQ system that will DQ inactive players after 3 minutes and 20 seconds of being inactive. No later, no sooner. The second thing is to contact a megauser so they may try to get your opponent active if they are refusing or goofing around. Megausers are the authority of the channel and are here to help you. Using the command /megausers will give you the following:

    [IMG]

    A complete list of current megausers who are here to help you. If you have questions or need their help "FLASH" one of them. When you type their name in the chat, it will flash their name and notify them they are needed, so don't be afraid if something is needed. As well you can ask any Mod or Admin as well in the channel to help if no megauser is active. Tour Owners are the high command of the channel, so if you believe you have been treated unfairly by a megauser or believe bias is an issue, talk with anyone listed under the Tour Owners section.

    Q&A:

    Q: I was muted! What for?

    A: You broke a rule, and as such got punished for it!

    Q: It was my first offense, why not warn?

    A: Because you can view the rules as soon as you enter the channel, and are expected to at least view them so you don't break them. Depending on which rule you break, there are various consequences if we don't punish for it.

    Q: What is the queue?

    A: The queue is a list of the upcoming tournaments added by megausers. You can view the list using /queue.

    Q: Do I get anything for winning tournaments?

    A: Why yes! You get tour points for winning a tournament which goes to a leaderboard. At the end of the month, the top 3 spots on our overall leaderboard and event tour leaderboard get a medal on our forums! So, if you want to participate in the community and get involved while you play PO, then be our guest, it's of course free, with no strings attached, and it's a great community to be apart of. We're always looking for people to get involved and show their stuff.

    Q: What is the leaderboard?

    A: The leaderboard is a monthly ranked list of the users who gain points when they win tours. There is also an event leaderboard for the ranked list of users who do well in elimination tours. You can use /leaderboard and /eventleaderboard to view the respective lists.

    Q: What is a megauser and how do I become one?

    A: Well, first thing is they are the users who are trusted to make sure rules are enforced and can make tournaments. The second is don't blindly ask or beg for it. It's an earned spot and that means you need to show you are mature, willing to help, do help users, and contribute positively to PO.

    Q: What is a reveal?

    A: A reveal is a punishable offense when a user names a Pokemon or strategy used by another player who is still in the tournament. This does not apply for all Challenge Cup, Battle Factory or Metronome tours.

    Q: What are "seeds"?

    A: Seeds are a ranking in a way that gives you a "seeded" or "ranked" spot whenever you join a tournament of a certain tier. Seed points are determined by winning tournaments, as well as ladder ranks in that tier. If no one on the "seeds" list appears, then ladder ranking is used. If no one that has joined is on the ladder of that tier, then seeds are randomized.

    Q: Why has my seed gone down so soon when I was a higher seed last tour?

    A: It is because of certain factors. The first factor is that your seed points decay over time, so you have to keep playing to maintain the seeded spot you have. The benefit of doing so can be first round byes in larger tournaments where there may be more subs. The second is that a person who had more seeds points than you joined this tournament, but not the last. You maybe end up seeded 1 for a tournament, but if there are people with more seed points than you and join the next tour, they will take that spot.

    Q: I joined and unjoined several times, and now it won't let me join!?

    A: That is a mechanism in place to avoid people spamming the join/unjoin commands. After 3 joins and 3 unjoins, the system will lock you out and you can't play in that tour. You'll be able to join the next tour, but note that trolling/spamming is not tolerated.

    Anyway, hopefully this guide has been helpful in explaining different aspects of the PO Server Tournaments, and if you still have further questions feel to ask any megauser or tour owner if your question is not listed, wanted a further explanation, or believe something should be added.

    Server #Tournaments Android Guide

    With a great number of the Pokemon Online Server Tournament players being on Android client, there are sure to be many steps into partaking in a Tournament! This is a guide to help you successfully play Server Tournaments on the Android client.

    1. Joining the #Tournaments Channel:
    To start, you have to join the #Tournaments Channel. You can do this one of two ways. The first is to access the list of channels. To do this, you can swipe to the left and the list of Channels will pop up on the right:

    [IMG]

    Alternatively, you may type a command that will allow you to join the #Tournaments Channel.
    To do this, just type "/cjoin Tournaments" in the chat bar, send it, and it will automatically have you join the #Tournaments Channel.

    [IMG]

    2. The List of #Tournament Commands:
    Once you're in the Channel, a good way to familiarize yourself is to look at the Channel Commands.
    To do this, type "/commands Tournaments" into the chat bar, and a list of commands will show up on the screen.

    [IMG]

    [IMG]

    3. Tier Selection:
    Once you have looked over the commands, you are now ready to start joining Tournaments! However, the #Tournaments Channel goes by a queue system that consists of Tiers. You have to have a team that matches the specifications of the certain tier you want to play. Be sure to check the specifications of the tier you want to play to make sure you have a team that matches it. To view the upcoming tours, type "/queue" in the chat bar, and hit send. When you decide what tier you wish to play, tap the Menu/Options/Settings button on your device to pull up a Menu.

    [IMG]

    From here, tap "Tier Selection," and you may change your tier to fit the Tour you wish to play.

    [IMG]

    Tier Locations:
    All Gens then Fun Tiers: Challenge Cup, Inverted Challenge Cup, Wifi CC 1v1, CC 1v1, Battle Factory, Battle Factory 6v6, and Metronome.

    XY then Side Metagames: Monotype, XY 1v1, Inverted Battle, Sky Battle, XY Cup, Random Battle Random Battle.

    3.5 Changing Generations:
    To change your generation to fit the tier of the Tournament you want to play, first, determine which generation the tier is. This can be determined by the prefix before the actual tier. For example, XY OU is a 6th generation tier, as it has the prefix "XY." The tiers with no prefixes are most likely 6th Generation Side Tiers (Random Battle, Sky Battle, Inverted Battle, Monotype.)

    [IMG]

    To change your generation to fit the Tournament you want to play, you must first access the main menu. This means, if you are already connected to the server, you need to go to options/settings and click Disconnect. After doing so, click the tab that says "Teambuilder." Once you are in the teambuilder, tap the section where it has "X/Y" as default. Once you tap on it, it will give a list of options of all of the generations you can switch to. Switch to the correct generation and tap on that one. Once you have done that, you are ready to go!

    Generation settings are as follows:
    RBY = Yellow
    GSC = Crystal
    ADV = XD
    HGSS = HG/SS
    BW2 = BW2
    XY = XY

    4. Joining Tournaments:
    Once you have selected your tier, you may now join the Tournament! When a Tournament starts, a broadcast will be prompted with the Rules of the Tournament, as well as how long you have to join. When this shows up, you are now free to join. Type "/join" in the chat bar to join the Tournament.

    [IMG]

    5. Challenging your opponent:
    Once you have joined the Tournament, the bracket of the first round of the Tournament will be shown.

    [IMG]

    From here, you will see who you're facing in the bracket. When you find who they are, swipe right for a list of players that will be shown on the left. Once you find the person you are challenging, tap and hold their name.

    [IMG]

    From here, click "Challenge (Player)." You will be able to challenge them in the tier of which the Tournament is played in. When you have done that, you will select the clauses of which the Tournament will be played under. (Clauses are shown when the Tournament first opened in signups)

    [IMG]

    Be sure you select the correct clauses. Although, if you do not, a bot will remind you of the correct clauses in the chat.

    DISCLAIMER: Android users can't challenge other android users in the following tiers: Battle Factory or Battle Factory 6v6. If you encounter a problem challenging another android user, both of you must log off, then set the tier again in your teambuilder before logging back on, and then attempting to challenge again. Failure to do so will result in a disqualification from the tournament. In some cases, a coin flip will be used if the battle can't get started to avoid holding up the tour. As well, android can only challenge the team that is loaded up first. So make sure to have the team you want to use loaded in the first slot otherwise you may end up being challenged to a match with a different team than you might want.
