This is my idea of how challenge preferences should eventually work. Firstly, I think when you have a tier selected, you should only be able to play with set requisites and clauses. This should be listed on the challenge window and also on the Find Battle - as well as banned pokemon/items. I believe Find Battle is simply a tool to help you find battles and should have no additions in challenge preferences other than those that help you specifically pick one type of opponent from another type. I also think you should be able to play both ladder matches and unrated matches with those tiers.

With 'No Tier', I think in the challenge window and find battle, you should have the option of setting clauses/requisites that are saved (same as now for challenge window). There should also be a way to go through columns and select the list of items and pokemon you want banned. Perhaps a good idea would to have a feature where you can load standard clauses (and banned pokemon/item lists) that are similar to other tiers if you want to play a slight variation. Of course, there'd be no ladder in this and only unrated matches would be able to be played.

I think I've covered everything but do say if there's any issues I've missed out.

No one is that serious about the tiers...

I don't think any changes to clauses are necessary.

Well if you mean having the option to set clauses, people want to be able to have as much freedom as possible when creating their own metagames without the use of having their own server.
