Ponyta ==Overview== *Second highest BST in Little Cup *Hits the favourable 19 speed mark *Strong defensive pivot *Can also run a solid offensive set *Can hit from both the physical and special side *Hasn't gained anything this gen, aside from Will-O-Wisp accuracy buff *Two Strong abilities ==Bulky Pivot== Ponyta @ Eviolite Trait: Flame Body EVs: 156 Atk / 76 Def / 76 SDef / 196 Spd Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk) - Will-O-Wisp / Sunny Day - Flare Blitz - Morning Sun - Wild Charge / Toxic ==Set Comments== *21/19/21 defences along with 17 attack and 19 speed make this set a force to be reckoned with *Flame body gives a good chance of burning physical attackers *Reliable recovery in Morning Sun *Toxic can be used to cripple common Ponyta Switch ins such as Chinchou and Slowpoke, whereas Wild Charge hits Staryu *Will likely outspeed and cripple opposing physical attackers with 19 speed Will-O-Wisp ==Flame Charge== Ponyta (F) Life Orb Trait: Flash Fire EVs: 36 HP / 236 Atk / 196 Spd Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk) - Flame Charge - Flare Blitz - Iron Tail / Return - Wild Charge ==Set Comments== *After a flame charge boost Ponyta will outspeed or speed tie with all scarfed pokemon barring scarfed Elekid/Voltorb/Diglett *Hits very hard with Life Orb backing up a 180 Base power move factoring in STAB *Iron tail is to hit fairies/rocks however accuracy can be unreliable. Return gets more neutral coverage and hits Chinchou *Wild charge hits water pokemon, namely Staryu, Frillish and Tirtouga ==Special Sunny Day== Ponyta @ Life Orb Trait: Flash Fire EVs: 36 HP / 236 SAtk / 196 Spd Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk) - Sunny Day - Fire Blast - Solar Beam - Morning Sun ==Set Comments== *Unexpected set that catches many Ponyta checks and counters off guard *STAB Fire Blast hits very hard under sun *Solarbeam is able to OHKO Chinchou after rocks and 2HKO Slowpoke, two of Ponyta's biggest counters. *Morning Sun recovers 66% HP if used under sun *Sunny day neutralises Ponyta's Water weakness ==Other Options== *Ponyta is able to run Choiced sets but the lack of a recovery move, along with a Stealth Rocks weakness hinder its viability, leading it to be outclassed as a choiced user *Hypnosis can be used but low accuracy isn't usually worth it *Low kick can be used if Munchlax is too much of a problem *Flame Body can be used over Flash Fire so you can still hit Trace Porygon ==Checks and Counters== *Bulky waters such as Chinchou and Staryu can threaten an OHKO with hydro pump, Staryu must be wary of switching into a wild charge, however. *Can be revenged killed by Diglett thanks to Arena Trap *Scarfers such as Cranidos and Water Spout users such as Remoraid, Wailmer and Frillish can all Check Ponyta *Tirtouga can set up a Shell Smash, then OHKO with Aqua Jet *Misdreavus, Scraggy, Meinfoo, Timburr, Murkrow can all check Ponyta.
236 SpA Ponyta Solar Beam vs. 196 HP / 116 SpD Eviolite Slowpoke: 16-20 (57.1 - 71.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock That EV spread is the most common one btw. Also, you might consider adding Agility and also Flame Body ,as a useful ability that surprises people who use Trace Porygon, in Other Options. EDIT: Also, consider adding Scarf Cranidos w/ Head Smash and Scarfed Water Spout Pokémon like Frillish, Remoraid and Wailmer.
Mienfoo doesn't check ponyta .-. In fact its one of its primary switch ins if they happen to not be running stone edge Sunny day is an option for the bulky pivot set as well for all the reasons listed on the special sunny day set. 156 Atk Ponyta Flare Blitz vs. 0 HP / 52 Def Eviolite Chinchou in Sun: 11-13 (45.8 - 54.1%) -- 59.4% chance to 2HKO 232+ SpA Chinchou Hydro Pump vs. 0 HP / 76 SpD Eviolite Ponyta in Sun: 8-12 (38 - 57.1%) -- 0.4% chance to 2HKO 156 Atk Ponyta Flare Blitz vs. 0 HP / 76 Def Eviolite Ponyta in Sun: 9-11 (42.8 - 52.3%) -- 5.1% chance to 2HKO Just about everything else is gonna be OHKOd or 2HKOd by wild charge or flare blitz
Yeah was wrong about Slowpoke, accidentally calculated on a blank set by mistake. Flame charge is generally better than agility as you will be outspeeding almost anything anyway, and flame charge hits relatively hard Added flame body under other options Added those checks, although they are very uncommon Stone edge and High Jump Kick from Mienfoo are both an OHKO after rocks from the scarf set. Eviolite Mienfoo will win the 1v1 after Flare Blitz recoil is taken into account, even if it gets burnt. Slashed Sunny Day as an option on eviolite set.
Sunny day is vaible on the physical attacker set. Eviolite is a good option on that EV spread as well. Toxic gets a ton of use for hitting Porygon. Porygon should get a specific mention as well. Make these minor changes and you're good. Approve (1)
Woah this exists? This analyse sums it up, I approve and you can write it up if you didn't give up on it.
