While Gen 6 did a number on Dratini, it still remains a force to be reckoned with in the Little Cup. The introduction of fairies crippled the already weak dragon typing in the little cup, and with a powerful new steel in Honedge, Dratini is no longer the mighty wall breaker is used to be. Don’t let that get you down though. Dratini is still one of if not the best dragon in the tier. It carries much more coverage than most other dragon types such as Axew, and is the only dragon with ExtremeSpeed. Dragon Dance and generally good typing lets Dratini nuke its way through many threats. Dratini is sadly weighed down by its subpar base 11 defenses on a neutral nature, though this can be patched up with an eviolite. It also suffers from having a middling attacking stat with a base of 12 on a neutral nature. Dratini probably won’t sweep any time soon, and it doesn’t have an easy time coming in either. Don’t let its cons outweigh its pros, Dratini is a force to be reckoned with, capable of defeating nearly the entire tier 1v1, and should always be considered when making a team.

    Dragon Dance

    Dratini (F) @ Eviolite
    Trait: Shed Skin
    EVs: 28 HP / 244 Atk / 40 SDef / 196 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk) | Naughty Nature (+Atk, -SDef)
    - Fire Blast/Rest/Extreemspeed
    - Dragon Dance
    - Outrage
    - Iron Tail

For those of you who thought Swilix was the end of all dragons in the tier, you were wrong. This Dratini beats all forms of Swirlix 1v1 except on the off chance of a critical hit. Swirlix cannot KO Dratini without boosting, and Dratini can out speed and OHKO Swirlix after a single Dragon Dance with Iron Tail as long as unburden is not in play, or take the coin flip and go for the KO, and, if rocks are up, go for the guaranteed OHKO. This Dratini isn’t solely a Swirlix lure as it maintains the little dragon’s incredible wall busting skills. Fire Blast can be used to let Dratini beat Steels such as Honedge and Bronzor. Rest heals Dratini up right quick and, when combined with either of its abilities, lets Dratini fare with much less damage during the sleep turns compared to other mons. Extremespeed can be used over Fire Blast or Rest to let Dratini lay the beat down on priority users that would otherwise stop its run cold such as Murkrow and Fletchling. Outrage is Dratini’s weapon of choice, letting it muscle its way through the majority of the tier with little trouble. Outrage is also a great way to lure in a Swirlix after setting up so long as Iron Tail has not been revealed. At +1 Dratini can 2HKO nearly everything that does not resist Outrage, and at +2 Dratini's outrage is capable of OHKOing almost every Pokemon in the tier that does not resist Outrage or Iron tail. Dratini is one of the hardest Pokémon to set up, but it is among the hardest to stop.

    Other Options

Dratini can run a more bulky rest talking set with a 28 HP / 4 Atk / 236 Def / 196 SDef / 36 Spd EV spread that used Dragon Dance, Rest, Sleep Talk, and Outrage. While it loses out on the ability to even touch Fairies and beat Steels, it lets Dratini set up much more often, and lets it fire off Outrages without getting locked in. The more bulky EV spread gives it solid 21/21/22 defenses after Eviolite, which is pretty decent by LC standards. This spread lets it take considerably less damage from everything and is a far superior wall breaker. Dratini can also use a Life Orb which brings considerably more pain, but shortens Dratini’s life span immensely. Thunder wave can be used to annoy many pokes and provide good support options for the team.

A mixed set is viable on Dratini since it has an extensive special move pool with moves such as Surf, Fire Blast, Thunderbolt, and Draco Meteor. Common Mixed sets have slight special investment and use move sets such as Draco Meteor/Extremespeed/Fire Blast/Iron Tail. Dratini does not have any special boosting and a fairly low special attack, so using mixed can be somewhat difficult.

    Checks and Counters

While being weaker than many other threats, after one Dragon Dance Dratini is more difficult to check than one would initially suspect. Pawniard is the most common check to Dratini, capable of easily tanking any of its moves and solidly 2HKOing with either Knock Off or Sucker Punch. Snubbull has enough bulk to tank come in on the Outrage, tank the boosted Iron Tail and OHKO with Play Rough in return. Dratini can be revenge killed fairly easily by things such as Meditite and Mienfoo who can fake out, then take the boosted hit and retaliate. Foongus can come in on the set up, take a hit, and Spore. Spritzee can come in on either the set up or the Outrage, take the boosted Iron Tail, and retaliate with Moonblast, OHKOing if rocks are in play. The sturdy smashers, Dwebble and Tirtouga can revenge kill Dratini 100% so long as Dratini is not at +2 in Tirtouga’s place. Amaura can come in on the set up and out speed for the OHKO, just beware of Iron Tail as it OHKOs. You can revenge a boosted Dratini with Amaura as well.

    Skeleton:

    Overview:
+Lots of moves on both sides make it really hard to wall
    +Great boosting in Dragon Dance
+Powerful priority makes it hard to stop
    +Dragon typing
    +Fairly unique
    -Dragon STAB
    -Mediocre stats
-Generally outclassed as a sweeper and a wall breaker
    -Fairy happened

    Dragon Dance

    Dratini (F) @ Eviolite
    Trait: Shed Skin/Marvel Scale
    EVs: 28 HP / 244 Atk / 40 SDef / 196 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk) | Naughty Nature (+Atk, -SDef)
    - Fire Blast/Rest/Extreemspeed
    - Dragon Dance
    - Outrage
    - Iron Tail

*Beats Swirlix 1v1 and is an amazing lure
*Good wall breaker that can use Fire Blast to beat steels
*Can be extremely difficult to stop on a rampage
*Boosted iron tail provides necessary coverage against Fairies
*Rest is great with both abilities
*Outrage is still really powerful and great at nuking down stuff

    Other Options

    *Bulky rest talk set
*Better defenses let it set up more
    *More effective wall breaker
    *Thunderwave
*Mixed sets can word with Dratini's extensive move pool.

    Checks and Counters

*Pawniard is capable of tanking any of its moves and 2HKOing with either Knock Off or Sucker Punch.
*Snubbull can come in and win with Play Rough
*Spritzee can come in on the set up or outrage and win with rocks in play
    *Foongus can spore
*Meditite and Mienfoo can revenge from pretty high health
*Sturdy smashers will revenge if not boosted to be faster
*Scarf Amaura is faster so it can come in on the set up and OHKO. It is OHKOd by a boosted Outrage and a neutral Iron Tail however.[/HIDE]

Make sure this is in bullet point form before pnerd becomes a butt and locks this thread :P

As for the analysis itself, I don't play LC at all, but I think its misleading how ExtremeSpeed gets such a positive mention in the Overview, but is not even slashed in the main set, so I'll leave you to decide what to do with that

I forgot to slash in the moves lol thanks for catching that. I'm not sure what this bullet point format is though. I read this and there isn't anything on a special format.

Scarf Amaura imo should be added as a check since it outspeeds +1 Speed Dratini (Since you're Adamant/Naughty) and can take a +1 Extremespeed, and it can OHKO back with Tri Attack/Frustration:

    220 SpA Refrigerate Amaura Tri Attack vs. 0 HP / 40 SpD Eviolite Dratini: 20-26 (100 - 130%) -- guaranteed OHKO

    204 Atk Refrigerate Amaura Frustration vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Eviolite Dratini: 26-32 (130 - 160%) -- guaranteed OHKO[/HIDE]

EDIT: You can add Thunder Wave to OO and also you can mention there how viable Mixed Dratini is (Draco Meteor/Extremespeed/Fire Blast/Iron Tail)

For those of you who thought Swirlix was the end of all Dragons in the tier, you were wrong. This Dratini beats all forms of Swirlix 1v1 unless the latter gets a critical hit. Swirlix cannot KO Dratini without boosting, while Dratini can out speed and OHKO Swirlix after a single Dragon Dance with Iron Tail as long as Unburden is not active. This Dratini isn't solely a Swirlix lure, however, as it maintains the little dragon's incredible wall-busting skills. Dratini may have a hard time setting up, but once it does, it is among the hardest Pokémon to stop.

    Other Options

Dratini can run a bulkier RestTalk set with a 28 HP / 4 Atk / 236 Def / 196 SDef / 36 Spd EV spread that uses Dragon Dance, Rest, Sleep Talk and Outrage. While it loses the ability to touch Fairies and beat Steels, this set lets Dratini set up much more often and use Outrage without getting locked in. The bulkier EV spread gives it 21 / 21 / 22 defenses after Eviolite, which is solid by LC standards. This lets it take considerably less damage from everything, while making it a far superior wall breaker. Dratini can also use Life Orb which deals more damage but shortens Dratini's life span immensely. Thunder Wave can be used to annoy other Pokémon and provide support options for the team.

A mixed set is viable since Dratini has an extensive special move pool with attacks such as Surf, Fire Blast, Thunderbolt and Draco Meteor. Common mixed sets have slight special investment and use attacks such as Draco Meteor, Extreme Speed, Fire Blast and Iron Tail. Dratini does not have any moves to boost its low Special Attack though, so using mixed can be difficult.

    Checks and Counters

While weaker than other threats, one Dragon Dance makes Dratini more difficult to check than one would initially suspect. Pawniard is the most common check, capable of easily tanking any of Dratini's moves and 2HKOing with either Knock Off or Sucker Punch. Dratini can be revenge killed fairly easily by Pokémon such as Meditite and Mienfoo who can Fake Out, take a boosted hit and retaliate. Foongus can come in on the set up, take a hit and use Spore. Spritzee can come in on either Dragon Dance or Outrage, take a boosted Iron Tail and attack with Moonblast, which OHKOes if Stealth Rock is in play. Pokémon with Sturdy and Shell Smash (Dwebble and Tirtouga) can revenge kill Dratini so long as Dratini is not at +2. Amaura can come in on the set up and out speed for the OHKO. Just beware of Iron Tail as it OHKOes back.
