Ever since I stopped playing baseball, tennis has been my favorite sport. I love to play it, as well as watch it. So, I thought it'd be nice to discuss it here. Who are your favorite players? What's your favorite tournament? What do you look forward to/expect to see this year? What are your personal experiences with tennis? As for me, my favorite player has to be Roger Federer. However, I really enjoy watching Juan Martín Del Potro in particular. On the women's side, I like watching Li Na and Victoria Azarenka (apart from the "grunting"). I'm really looking forward to seeing how Federer does at Wimbledon. I think it might be his last good chance of winning a major and I'd love to see him do it.
KING STANISLAS In males, Andy Murray is my favourite and followed by Wawrinka now! Would love to see Fed win one more Slam and yeah Wimbledon this year is probs his last chance. Aussie Open is my fav since it's the one I can watch most of lol. On females, after her Aussie Open performance Eugenie Bouchard has become my favourite. She has a great future ahead of her and I see Grand Slams in them. Serena is also too good and I love watching her play. Nadal will win Roland Garros y/y
Roger Federer all the way. I'm really looking forward to the next Grand Slam! You better win! 'Nuff said.
I always have wanted to watch tennis when I was younger but that for some reason the motivation kinda died off. Federer all the way
I used to be really into tennis, but I had to stop playing for various reasons and that kind of killed my passion for watching it as well. I still watch occasionally, but not all the time like I used to. My favourite players are Janko Tipsarevic, Rafael Nadal, David Nalbandian(before he retired), Tommy Haas and Philip Kohlschreiber (somewhat ordered). I've never been a very big fan of the women's circuit, so I can't really say I support any of them in particular.
hi! So in the light of Wimbledon 2015, I thought I'd bring this thread back. For the men's side, I'm still rooting for Federer to win it (but Murray probably has a better shot and I'm okay with that). There haven't really been any big upsets except for Nadal (but did anyone expect him to make a deep run here?). I think it'll be Djokovic vs Murray for finals. As for the women, I wanted to see Petra Kvitova win it again but obviously that's not going to happen. I also really want Venus Williams to come back and make a deep run, but that means beating Serena and that's a tall order for anyone. Without Kvitova, the other half of the draw (without Williams, Sharapova, etc) seems a bit weak so who knows what's going to happen there. I'm hoping for Venus Williams vs Madison Keys for the women's final (yeah it's very unlikely). I'm really curious to what you guys think about the tournament thus far and what your predictions are for the second week.
Still going for Murray on the men's side and he does have one of the best shots, his form this year has been awesome. Think Berdych has a shot at upsetting Federer (if they both make it to the QF). On the other half, Djok has it pretty easy I think, hope Stan can play well on grass for once and put up a challenge. Murray vs Djok final with Murray winning. Women's side is really interesting, whoever wins from Serena and Venus will probably be my pick then. Wozniacki has a great shot at making the final with some big names gone on the side of the draw (rip Kvitova), hopefully she doesn't drop her game. I'm thinking Serena vs Wozniacki final with Serena winning and then going on the win the US Open as well for the Calendar year Grand Slam.
I'm not really following it closely but I just wanted to give a shoutout to some aussies doing my country proud in Kyrgios and Tomic. These blokes are absolute legends and are amazing role models for kids aspiring to follow their dreams and pursue their sports as far as they can [/sarcasm] Edit: Also it's crazy that Serena Williams is still the best player in women's tennis even after how many years at this level? Like every time I watch her play it looks like she's just way too much for her opponent to handle
Predictions for week two: Murray to beat Djokovic in the men's final, Kyrgios to reach his first slam semifinal and Jankovic vs one of the Williams sisters for the women's final. Don't think I've ever had higher expectations on Murray going into a slam, toughest match I can see will be Federer in the semis, but imo he'll beat Fed and Novak to pick up his 3rd slam. Doubt I should actually be this confident (just gonna end up disappointed again), but Andy seems to be back at those 2012/2013 levels (maybe even better) when he beat both players on grass comfortably (plus he gets a massive boost from playing at Wimbledon in front of the home crowd) so yeah I think it's very possible he'll win. As for Kyrgios, I think he played really well in the last match vs Raonic so beating Gasquet and Stan (on this surface) is well within his capabilities, don't think he'll be good enough to trouble Novak if he does reach semis, but he'll be feeling confident about his chances of making it there no doubt. The women's game has been looking pretty weak recently, odds are Serena wins (again) but would like to see something different (hoping for Venus to come out on top tomorrow). As Rad mentioned above, the other side of the bracket is pretty weak so hard to predict what's gonna happen there, sticking with Jankovic after her huge upset vs Petra, but wouldn't be surprised to see anyone from that half end up in the final. But honestly my predictions are never right so here's what will really happen: Spoiler Murray loses the final (again) in straight sets to Djokovic; 6-4, 6-0, 6-0 after Novak calls for the trainer midway through the 1st set 2-4 down and goes on to win 16 games in a row in 50 minutes. Nick Kyrgios will lose to Richard Gasquet in the next round and will never amount to anything in his career. Maria Sharapova will win the women's side and go on to overtake serena's slam count in the coming years. The sad part is one of those is actually pretty likely :(
Entering Wimbledon I always thought Murray had the best shot at winning this, because it seemed to me Djoko was kind of shaken from his loss against Wawrinka and Andy was at the top of his game. After the 3rd round I still think Murray is the favorite, but it does look like Djoko has managed to put the french open loss behind him and he is almost back to his best. I think he will beat Djoko in an epic final, and he shouldn't have too many problems beating federar in semis. Among the rest, Berdych and Kygios look pretty good at the moment, won't be surprised if one of them reach the semis and cause an upset. Would be nice to see a new face competing against the top! RIP Nadal though :( Not really too much interested in Women's; Serena will probably beat everyone again but I'd be rooting for Sharapova and Wozniacki because they're cooler. I wish I could predict perfectly in Tennis like I do in football :(
#TeamFederer #TeamIvanovic I've been practicing Tennis for a long time, about 4hrs/week and tennis is like the best sport ever. I prefer watching WTA ( girls) because I can learn a lot about strategies, whereas with men it's so fast it's hard to make the scenario in my head. I've been supporting Federer since I'm kid, I love his playstyle and his personality. Same goes for Ivanovic :]
SF Predictions? Williams vs Sharapova - In 2 close sets. Muguruza vs Radwanska - In 3 hard sets. Djokovic vs Gasquet - In 3 easy sets, dammit Stan. Murray vs Federer - In 4 tough sets. Also this.
Williams vs Sharapova - Hasn't beaten her in like 11 years, won't do it again. Muguruza vs Radwanska - Idk tbh, I like Muguruza's game so I'll pick her. Djokovic vs Gasquet - ez Murray vs Federer - I want it to be Federer but realistically, it's probably going to be Murray. I'm ok with that though. Also that gif @The Dude is fucking hilarious.
My predictions were pretty much spot on, same with Rad. Hopefully they are also correct today :) Have a little treat for you guys, it's from the Aus Open this year, enjoy. MURRAY HYPE
Murray should be winning against Federer in a close game, and I hope Gasquet causes an upset against Djoko although that's highly unlikely :( Serena is winning in straight sets probably; someone should make her handicapped to make women's tennis interesting again.
So much for everyone celebrating "first British man to win wimbledon in 77 years" when the British crowd cheer for some faggot from Switzerland. Andy Murray is a Scottish hero and I salute anyone else who loves him; it takes absolutely nothing to like the best players in the world like Graf or Fed, but to love Andy it'll take you through everything; complete legend and I don't care if he wins or loses because everyone else is a faggot. Only British when he's winning, Scottish when he loses. Shit crowd.
