A rather simple suggestion, but if you google "Pokemon Online" not only do you get Pokemon World Online(a really shitty MMO) at the top, basically none of the following results come here. You have to google "pokemon online eu" to get the right thing. In any case, this a prime situation for people to get confused, as people are stupid and won't use the second search. I suggest changing the name of PO to something that can't be mistaken, like Pokemon Stadium Online(has not been taken! ... though it abbreviates to PSO...) or something along those lines. I just like the idea of it going by "Pokemon Stadium <something>".
I believe the authority and coyotte are waiting till the final version of PO is released to actually advertise Pokemon Online. The staff can correct me if I am wrong.
Let's name it coyotte and finish it like that. It had better not stay as Pokemon Online, that's such a terribly generic name.
It shows on the third page of Google. When you start a website, it doesn't instantly go to the top! The more people that click on Pokemon Online on Google, the higher it'll go.
If you guys are going to whine that much about the name, buy a new domain name. I think the plan is to stick with the two existing ones for the game.
Netbattle's catchy and makes sense, which is more than what I can say for Pokemon Online, and I never liked the name Shoddy Battle. Will do.
Sure, if the domain doesn't suck, like Pokemon Online, or Online Pokemon Simulator. And it'll be for about a year. Maybe more.
A year? Eh. We need a permanent one. If we really need a new domain, I'll gladly pay for it. But only if coyotte wants to change the name. Myself... I'm happy with Pokemon Online.
I'll have to renew it constantly, and I don't know if I want to pay for it, even though it's only like $6 or so per domain name. I'll gladly renew it if it needs it. You're happy with Pokemon Online, but you're not the one complaining. I am. I mean, obviously.
Shoddy does have a purpose behind it's name. It's like saying "poorly-built" which I highly agree with. Obviously its up to Coyotte + admins to figure it out, but I must concur that pokemon-online is gonna make most people think you're Pokemon World Online, and it's also not particularly creative. Like all good names though, you'll know the right one when you find it.
Even so, the fact remains it's easy to confuse it with Pokemon World Online. Despite how shitty it is it's somehow popular. Once pol's various kinks get worked out a renaming, especially if it were called Pokemon Stadium (something), would be a lot better for attracting people to it.
Let's say you're in charge of creating new brand of some specific kind of - for example - food product, name it "Food". Sure, it is food, but there's a lot of various food. Consumers won't think of your Food when they think food. Not to mention with marketing slogan of "Food - eat it" people wouln't think of your Food but of food in general. Seems idiotic and unrelated, but: Simmilar, albait obviously different, thing applies to PO. PO is pokemon online, but there's lots of various projects based around the idea of using internet for pokemon battling. It doesn't even apply just to battling simulators, but to browser based MMORPGs, standalone MMORPGs, some flash games and probably more. When people hear of PO, they can as well think someone's talking about other project, like Pokemon World Online. And one more thing: I'm sure that if PO had more original name than it's current one, site would already be first result by now. The fact a topic in abandoned PO forums at pokeymon-online is seventh result for "pokeymon online" only proves that.
well i always just type when searching the eu. its not so much a name change that is needed. rather it is a domain change. from eu to . net or .org. that will solve the problem as .eu will not be one of the primary results.
It's nothing to do with the domain name extention. Just because it ends in .eu doesn't mean anything. Most 'Pokemon Online' .net .com .org domains are taken.
If Pokemon Online is such a terrible name, do you guys have any ideas for a name? Do suggest a good one. Not a bad one.
Y'know, we could just call it Pokemon NetBattle, use the pmnb.net domain name for this place, and call it a day. pmnb is the first result for a google of pokemon netbattle. pmnb.net isn't exactly lively right now or anything. http://www.google.com/search?client...on+netbattle&sourceid=opera&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8 Just sayin'.
Well this is what I came up with after thinking a few minutes: The Pokemon Simulator for Infinite Metagames - The Pokemon SIM Dratini's Battle Simulator - DBS
When the game is ready, if it could change from Pokeymon to Pokemon, that'd be great I keep typing pokemon instead of pokeymon and getting that stupid domain page (with .com not .eu)
I don't like the idea of some random user owning the domain for this site/forum/simulator. If someone registers one that we want to use and name the simulator after then I would want to stipulate the condition that we'd use it only if they transfer it to one of us so we can always be in full ownership and ensure nothing happens to the domain (such as being dropped, sold, etc). PMNB does kind of have a bad reputation after all the drama on NetBattle (mostly Lil-P if if I've read correctly?) so I'm not too keen on using that - or being associated with NetBattle at all, for that matter.
