I’m a huge fan of a song of ice and fire/game of thrones and thought it would be the perfect subject material for a mafia theme. This theme follows the events surrounding Kings Landing during the first, second and third book/season. Basically the object of this theme is to empower your heir by crowning him king through killing off or depowering the other king/heirs, and then protecting him as he/she abuses their power to destroy your enemies. Some things that make this theme unique include the lack of a village, less powerful day/night killers, less ability to quickly ascertain someones role, the ability to convert certain roles to your side with /enlist and /marry commands and a completely silent vote. Here is a role list to give some idea of what the theme would feel like. It is by no means finished and I have left some characters/actions out as they were possible spoilers for season 4 of the series, regardless if you are a spoiler nazi read ahead at your own peril. Also I have no idea to do a secret tab so sorry for the long post Starks and Robert Ned You must find Cersei and /expose her of incest, before it’s too late. Knows Arya and Sansa from the start Can use /enlist to win people to his side King Robert Has a revealing daykill with /execute Has a votesheild of 5 Can /sleep with someone during the day to learn if they are man women or child Sansa You can /distract someone during the night Knows Ned from the start After Ned dies she joins the side of anyone who has married/marrys her (if that side dies she rejoins the starks) Arya Can /stalk someone during the night Knows Ned from the start After Ned dies she gets a nightkill with /needle She inspects as Sansa when someone uses /marry on her she learns their identity Barristen Selmy Knows Robert from the start Must /protect Robert each night to keep him alive (if he is distracted Robert auto dies) After Robert Dies he can /search three times a night to learn a persons side He then can use /(side) to join a side during the day Vote of two Lannisters Tywin Can use /marry to marry someone into their house Cersei Lancel is waiting for the chance to kill Robert. You must identify Barristen Selmy and /distract him to give Lancel an opening Joffery If Robert Dies and Cersei is not exposed and he is not seized he converts to King Joffery King Joffery Has a revealing daykill with /execute Has a votesheild of 5 Tyrion Can /search someone to learn their side If Shae dies he gets a single nightkill with /revenge Vote of two Shae Can /sleep with someone to learn if they are man woman or child Tyrells and Renly Lady Olenna Can use /marry to marry someone into their house Renly Wins with the starks if Robert is alive Wants to find Joffery and /seize him to gain power Knows Ser Loras from the start If Robert dies and Joffery is dead or seized and there is no Queen Margaery he converts to King Renly King Renly Has a revealing daykill with /execute Has a votesheild of 5 Sir Loras Singular Revealing night kill Knows Renly from the start Margaery Can /seduce the ruling king (fail rate on Robert and Stannis) to become their bride, then if they die she converts to Queen Margaery Queen Margaery Has a revealing daykill with /execute Has a votesheild of 5 Followers of R’hllor Stannis wins with the Starks if Robert is alive (not sure of his night action yet) Knows Melisandre from the start If there are no suitable heirs he converts to King Stannis King Stannis Has a revealing daykill with /execute Has a votesheild of 5 Melisandre Wins with the starks if Robert is alive Can Use /feedoff on Stannis to gain a nightkill, however this has a chance of killing him If Robert uses /sleep on her she gains a nightkill Knows Stannis from the start Single Roles Varys Gets Hax on everything except littlefingers actions Can claim someone to be a certain affiliation in the day ie /(side) If all possible heirs are dead he gains a daykill and a nightkill Littlefinger If possible is the only one who can see who is voting who (otherwise gets a night inspect) Can /steal Sansa if Ned is dead and she is not married (Sansa joins his side and he gets a nightkill) Auto wins if all the heirs are dead as well as Varys and Danaerys Danaerys (only in larger games) Night or daykiller Can use /enlist to win people to her side Kings Court Various Characters from the books and tv series, each knows a little bit of gossip (knows one of the main roles) can be converted to your side through the use of /marry or /enlist Other things of consequence The /marry command As well as enlisting people of the kings court to your side the marry command has special effects if used on certain characters If used on Sansa or Arya the user is empowered (gains the power of the north) and gains a nightkill If used on Margaery or Sir Loras the user gains the affection of the people and gets a +3 vote If used on Cersei or Tyrion the user gains enough wealth to hire an assassin to nightkill for them If used on Shae however the user’s house is shamed and they are exposed The marry command is a double edged sword however as if you /marry sansa for example you also give Ned (the head of the starks) the boost respective to your house If a Tyrell is married Lady Olenna gains the boost. If a Lannister is married Tywin gains the boost. The Vote When someone votes the message ’a plot is being hatched ‘ is displayed Any feedback, criticism or support would be appreciated. I have some experience coding, but if I were to code this theme I would need some help with some of the trickier parts (ie Littlefinger, the marry command, the heirs convert conditions)
ASOIAF is amazing flavor. I'm unsure how to go about constructing a theme, as the story naturally sets itself up for a ClanWar variant and I'm personally sick of it. The whole changing of alliances thing does make for an interesting theme (reminds me of trainers, but with less allegiance to a person). Problem with ASOIAF is that betrayal is a main component of the series yet in mafia it's integral to work with your team to win. I suppose most of my commentary on this needs to be hidden in spoilers (which are made with [ hide ] [ / hide ] tags btw) DO NOT CLICK TAGS IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE WHOLE SERIES MAYBE IDK Spoiler Ned looks fine, that's basically what he did in the first book and it'd be funny to see him win because canonically that doesn't happen. I don't like placing Robert on one side particularly, I feel he should be a lone role that doesn't really do any harm, but killing him provides many implications for the games to progress. You could keep him with the Starks though (this might necessitate them acting as a kind of 'village') and have the various factions attempt to kill him, perhaps powering up Stannis/Renly/Cersei/Daenerys and other on his death. ugh the thing with Sansa is that although she gets swept up in the politics she remains a Stark through and through, although recent events in the later books may have done something about her. Changing sides might be appealing but she never really does betray the Starks which is a problem if she changes sides. Arya's role is very appropriate, I like it, but considering that she ends up in Braavos her powers are not entirely encompassing. It does fit well for the first three books though so that's fine as is. Tywin should have a lot of influence. He is feared by many and he's basically got the strongest house in terms of army (maybe? this probably isn't canon), wealth, and prestige. Obviously some plus votes should factor in but maybe a /buy or /bribe command would work too. He's also a really heartless bastard with his part in the Red Wedding and all. Cersei surprisingly does not do much now that I think about it as all the power gained by Robert's death in the series is technically attributed to Joffrey although she tries to play puppeteer with him. A distract is fine but she should do something when Robert dies. Speaking of Joffrey his conditions are pretty interesting, I believe that on Robert's death he should unquestionably take on the powers of king but the way you put it would be that Ned can stop him from taking over the throne in the first place. In that case, if he does take over the throne it should fall to Stannis/Renly/Daenerys/[Littlefinger and Varys if they wish] to stop him by military or political force. Tyrion is a great trickster, I expect to see something deceptively fun with his role. Shae seems pretty standard, nothing to comment on her really. Queen of Thorns is quite good, I feel if anything she could be the one foil to Tywin, so if you're going to expand Tywin's role it might be a good idea to build Olenna around him to keep him in check. Renly is weird, I'm not a fan of giving people the ability to win with multiple sides but have most allegiance to one (see Watari in DN). Also the thing with becoming king is that his claim is before Stannis' so Stannis would have priority (both in the game and in the series) and consequently Renly needs to have some kind of advantage over Stannis - in votes maybe? Being connected to Loras makes sense, the nightkill is fine. Margaery's command would really only affect Joffrey (I guess you could make her a counter to the Lannisters), I don't really feel there's a need for her to win over Renly (both because of the fact that they're on the same side and because he's not actually into women lol). Things like her role would be very confusing to make though so I understand your predicament. Stannis' side needs some kind of /convert that can either make people King's Men or Queen's Men (you should know what I'm talking about). Probably would give it to Melisandre, who also needs some way to work her magic and maybe a one-time shadow baby trick to creep the fuck out of people, and to get Renly or any other contender to the throne out of the way. Davos could be put in to serve as a protector. I feel a whole theme could be built around Varys and Littlefinger, they're so badass. Both should be able to manipulate every single side to some extent, except I guess the Starks are pretty distrustful of them and I'm not sure if Varys is pro-Daenerys at all. If you make him able to influence Daenerys then give Baelish the Starks because of his connection to Sansa. Basically I feel a bunch of partial inspects for these two guys would be the most fitting as in a game of political intrigue everyone is doubtful of one another but they should have the ability to gain information, but keep it slightly veiled to make things interesting. Daenerys would be fine as this kind of far-off threat that becomes more and more dangerous as the game goes on (she could appear in mid-size games and in big games you could even give her dragons independent roles). This theme would work great with vote sniping and silent votes, perhaps. Your description of the /marry command is going to be complicated, yeah. Since only a handful of the roles as of now have the marry command it's going to be kind of limited when I feel the effects could and should be pretty wide and have repercussions on the whole house. The whole thing needs more than just a passing glance to figure how out it goes, as all sides need to be carefully created so that when you have marry effects it won't skew the balance towards one house or another (ie, it makes no sense for a Stark to go marry into the Tyrell family and get their support, while it makes perfect sense for the Lannisters). If you're in need of roles there are of course interesting houses in the Greyjoys and the Martells (though too many sides may be a problem, although you can put the Greyjoys with the Starks because of Theon Spoiler lol until the end of book 2 though and the Martells with Spoiler Daenerys
