Hi people, I'm Cobalt. You may or may not know me but I play in mafia quite frequently. Anyway, today I decided to try and take a jab at a theme. I got this draft Idea from TraceOfLife, so thanks to him, this thread wouldn't be here. Anyway, this theme is based off of a futuristic type of world where Robots, Cyborgs, and Technobugs and other things go to war. Village Military Bot - A standard shield that protects frm kills. Note this is shield, not protect Bipedal Bot - Vote of 2, immune to Night Kills. Exoskeleton - An inspect once per night which only states what side the target is on. UAV - Standard Distract. Hexapod - Stalker Ninja - Gets a nihht kill once per night and gets another bonus kill once per game in which the bonus kill self poisons. Android - Townie Scientist - Poison Toy - -1 vote Doctor - Gets a /detox once per night. Cannon - One time Self bg and revenges night kills. That's all the village roles. I need feedback with balance issues and flavour. Ok so I'm having trouble with good names for the village, and I also need a few more roles for them. Note that Eobots = Village. When I try and make a theme, I make it so that it avoids the follow the Insp type of game. For this reason, I use a shield over a Bg to make claiming more risky. In this point in time you may think connecting is simple. However when you add this role: Laser Cutter - Non revealing DK It changes the game quite a bit as it completely rules out claiming. I added a Detox role to make the game more interesting. I also thought of this role to make the Detoxers more useful: Centipede - One poison in small games, 2 in large games. This could hopefully use the mechanic of resistances and weaknesses to poison. Alien - This a lone role, like Sidoh, can choose what side to take. With a cite of 2 to win a 1v1 in votephase. This is in the rare situation that Alien is alone and stays alone. With a vote of 2 this is a semi ideal strategy in small games. A stalk is thee to support the team aswell. I had an idea to make Technobugs a bit like Nergal's side, which is why I decided to use: Hopper - /swarm twice per night to make a role join their side. I'm thinking of making it so detox role cleans this condition aswell, to make things help the village or the mafia. I don't have any roles for Cyborgs (mafia) yet. I am requesting you to send some in. Technobugs: Firefly Hopper - Swarm once every 2 nights Centipede - can poison once or twice depending on game size. Dragonfly Hornet Ant What makes my theme different: I think that by itself, the themes add a lot of unique factors to the theme. It's not the roles individually, but more the situations that the roles get in. The whole Follow-the-pr act is a bad idea in this theme due to the Laser Cutter and a potential Kefka role. All of these roles have been used, but the thing is, all the roles in this go into different situations and make co-ordinating easier. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This thread is cluttered but I hope it helped helped you to understand the themes base. Hi Cobalt. Anyways, I dunno. It's a bit low on the flavor department. You might want to throw in a paragraph about what makes this theme unique, because if you can't think of anything then that means you need to fix it! I love your idea about having an extra kill that poisons you. I am totally going to steal use that. Mafia seems like it might be UP, just a thought. What does hopper convert you into? Random mafia villy role? Maybe make it so it can't convert certain roles, like Laser Cutter. Laser is a loner, am I right? I might look over more when I have the time.
Laser us a loner role. The hopper will convert orobably to a normal Townie on the mafia side. Flavor is very bad right now, but as I said I think this theme idea has good potential for flavour Thanks! EDIT: added unique thingy section
At least to me, I like to see themes based around a central component which really makes a theme unique. A random conglomeration of roles isn't going to stick out to me, much less people in the mafia channel. For example, the Kefka role has become an archetype (you yourself used it in your role description), as has Plutonium, the Black Knight, Link, etc. While the theme may be fine in that you can't safely claim any village role due to a mafia role that endangers any village role, a lot of themes do this so my suggestion to you is to try to create a fairly unique role that can become recognizable.
I'd do that of course, if I had the ability but I am simple minded, and I don't really have a broad imagination to come up with good roles. Also as for the Kefka role, I said it was a potential role. The whole thing about random roles, I would do this, but as I said, my imagination is absolutely terrible, so help on roles would be really good. All in all, this really is only a rough draft, and I can make a lot of flexible changes to it, and if I have to, I will. EDIT: This theme is based on a futuristic point of view, but yes I see where your coming from about random roles. I'm sure it can be easily solved. @ Windblown
