Spoiler http://oi42.tinypic.com/2wn64p3.jpg Hello there PO community, and please excuse my informality, since this is the first thread I created here and also my first RMT ever. The only reason I am doing this is due gen 6 becoming the new metagame soon, and so the small posibility of my team turning a lil bit obsolet competitively, I will like to share my favorite and yet, most powerful and effective team before it's too late, so here we go... First of all I have to admit I am kinda lazy with the team building thingy and I am not very creative, this team I use exists since gen 3. and has barely changed a bit since gen 4, but yet it reached its own perfection in this metagame, to the point I believe there is no way to "improve it" without making a completely different one, anyway theres also the chance that it is just my pride & sloth talking for me so if any reader out there care, go ahead and give some advice, suggestion or just plain old criticism. In spite of the straight forewardness of my team I find it very fun to play with and also very rewarding without much risking so I hope you guys like it. THE LEAD Aerodactyl (F) @ Focus Sash Trait: Unnerve EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk) - Stealth Rock - Taunt - Stone Edge - Earthquake So errrr... I really don't have much to say about this unnerving Aerodactyl, is as standard as any suicide lead and has nothing particular or gimmicky in herself. But there is one thing worth mentioning here and it is Aero's odd drop in usage since gen 4. Yes, I am concious on how the metagame changed and how team preview makes Aerodactyl less of a threat, but it still doesn't explain why nobody seams to want a suicide lead that does its work so damn well, in fact, I can tell that Aerodactyl perform better in practice than on paper, its not just the fastest user of SR but also can completely destroy early game strategies with the use of just some prediction, so far Aerodactyl, as predictable as she might be, has never truly failed me, and has also helped to win against a countless number of BP teams, it just works so amazingly well, that sometimes it's not even necesarily to check the team preview since she works almost perfectly as a lead. Her bane(s): Sableye. THE TOUGH GUY Gyarados (M) @ Leftovers Trait: Intimidate EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Spd Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk) - Roar - Toxic - Waterfall - Substitute Yeah I know you raised an eyebrow on this set, and before you try to enlighten me I just want to tell you that, yes, I know it lacks a recovery move, I know it is weak to SR without me having a spinner, I know it is affected by sandstorm, yes I know is some sort of one-use wall who hilariously enough has a substitute and finally yeah, I know it has toxic instead of something more common like thunder-wave. In spite of everything stated this sea snake is a completely vital part of my defensive core and without it I would be easily destroyed by most hard hitting teams, explaining his uselfulness is hard, it would take me several pages just to list all the reasons this Gyarados fits my team (and probably only my team) so well, so instead I will just give few examples; toxic helps me to deal with annoying water types such as Politoad, Slowbro or Gastrodon and some other walls with recovery such as Hippowdon, it used to have t-wave untill I discovered it amkes my team more versatile and prepared this way, it has waterfall to make some damage, substitute to gain momentums or avoid status conditions and roar to phaze incoming threats, also his bulk plus intimidate makes it a really powerful wall, living after some serious super effective blows such as Terrakion's stone edge, it really is a sturdy wall and the only pokemon in my team that resist water type attacks. His bane(s): Ferrothorn, Tentacruel, Rotom-W, Forretress and Jirachi. THE EMPRESS OF PAIN Tyranitar (F) @ Leftovers Trait: Sand Stream EVs: 252 HP / 180 Atk / 76 SDef Brave Nature (+Atk, -Spd) - Crunch - Focus Punch - Substitute - Ice Beam Here is when the thing gets fun, say hello to the long forgotten tyraniboah, my sand induced and Gyarados's parthner in crime, another gem of a pokemon that can completely eat unprepared teams whole, without chewing. Just like Aerodactyl, tyraniboah is underrated, this girl over here has proved to be effective in the OU metagame in its own way, and in many different kinds of teams not just this one, the key of her succes lies in her EV spread and Focus Punch plays, it makes her simultaniously a special wall, a stallbreaker, a wall breaker, a weather warrior, a lurer and most importantly, a beautiful check against my team's worst nightmares, without even needing much predictions it can make big holes in the opponent team, don't think for a second that Skarmory Hippowdon, Gliscor or Blissey can stop her, Tyranitar is a core of my team and an irreplaceable part of it. Her bane(s): Toxicroak. THE HERO Jirachi @ Leftovers Trait: Serene Grace EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk) - Iron Head - Body Slam - Substitute - Fire Punch Sweeper Jirachi, the infamous "star" of my team and probably the most important member, thanks to team support Jirachi can set up a subtitute with ease almost anytime, then it can completely destroy entire teams by itself specially with the aid of serene grace, the only way to stop it is with the use of hardcore checks and counters such as Heatran, after all of them are gone, the battle usually turn into a boring one-sided crubstomp against Jirachi alone, it may look like if Jirachi lacks power to be a sweeper, but with high speed even for OU standards, the ability to flinch and paralyse, a huge coverage and a lot of bulk for a sweeper combined with leftovers, Jirachi is the corner-stone of my team and destroying it is the easist way to beat it. Now about Jirachi's infamy, the reason behind this is the biased opinion towards "60% flinch rate = hax", while I must admit, I got saved in completely unlike situations thanks to ungodly amount of luck, I don't use this "hax" as an active strategy since obviously, it's impractical and impossible to control, the only thing I expect is iron head to flinch at least 50% of time, as well as body slam paralysis and some few burns, Jirachi's longetivity easily allows me to get those, so no, I am not a "n00b h4xxor omg!!111one" as many players seam to take me as. (Protip: Dugtrio, Wobbuffet and Magnezone arent enough to get rid of this Jirachi). It's bane(s): Bulky water types in rain, Hippowdon, Sableye, Heatran and Gliscor. Not Jellycent since Jirachi can easily win stall battles with fire punch's 20% chance of burning. THE RECKLESS TACTICIAN Gengar (M) @ Life Orb Trait: Levitate EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk) - Shadow Ball - Focus Blast - Substitute - Disable Oh Gengar, such a badass pokemon always viable and OU since gen 1. As you can see my Gengar looks very suicidal, and thanks to sandstorm and hazards it is even less durable than it seams at first glance, in fact, Gengar can easily kill himself in few turns without even reciving any direct attack, all this said this pokemon is not dumb, it's actually the other way around, due his odd way of battling, I say he's the most brainy member of my team, his main and superficially proporse is simply special sweeping, a thing all Gengars do well, his style is very fast peaced and it can really hurt an off-guard opponent right when they less expect it, not even Volcarona can just set up safely against Gengar, but when he really shine is with the use of mind games, just to have an idea, Gengar can very easily beat Sucker Punchers such as Toxicroak with no prediction needed at all, his limited but critically needed uses of disabe and substitude (or simple well predicted focus blasts) can easily give this team the upper hand, finally, this pokemon is a spin blocker and is inmune to extremespeed. His bane(s): Starmie and Blissey. THE LANCER Flygon (M) @ Choice Scarf Trait: Levitate EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk) - Earthquake - Outrage - U-turn - Fire Punch And here comes the most controversial pokemon I use, the powerful, versatile and humble Flygon. First of all I want to make it clear that, no I don't use him just for show, or for show at all, I am not crippling myself with this Pokemon, I use him because no other one could do better than him as a scarfed pokemon and a late game sweeper, I know it's not very fast, I know his attack stat doesn't even reach 300, and to be honest, before Garchomp got unbanned I was sure I was going to raplace Flygon with it, but guess what, it's not the same. In paper Flygon gets outclassed by several pokemon, it doesnt have as much attack power as Salamnce or Kyurem-B, not as much speed as Latios, Keldao or Terrakion, is not even as bulky or broken as some pokemon such as the now banned Tornadus-T, Landorus-I and Genesect, and finally, Garchomp shares the same typing but with far better stats on almost everything, so why do I use him, what would be the point? Well, experience has taught me, that in the harsh unforgiving metagame that is 5 gen OU, power means nothing near having the upper hand, the tactitical superiority, versatility and utility, to give a quick example this particular harmless looking Flygon has a huge body count under his claws, of all the pokemon mentioned above, all of them were easily defeated by flygon, usually in the decisive final strike in late game. I chose Flygon because he can do a huge amount of tasks, he is an effective scouter with u-turn, and unlike Garchomp, it doesn't give a damn about hazards, the only priority attack that kills him is ice shard and has just enough power to simple do all his tasks, many of them incluiding killing the opponent last pokemons, thanks to Jirachi's help, Flygon has managed to destroy OU's best and most powerful sweepers. Again, his body count is ridicuclous, even though these are facts (and my ranking and replays are there to prove it), I still don't understand how Flygon has managed to defeat so many Keldaos, Salamences, Garchomps, Landoruses, Tornaduses, Scizors, terrakions and Genesects, only losing more often to banded Stoutland. Flygon might not be the hero of my team, but he definetly is an effective reliable and cool fighter, probably my most dangerous pokemon. his bane(s): Anything with recovery it can't 2HKO, Sableye, Gliscor and Mamoswine. In conclusion, this is a very solid, straight-forward and powerful balanced sand team, only weak to hardcore stall, and all Jirachi's banes, I think it has enough potential to peak #1 in the Wifi OU ladder and I will be looking forward to it, I just have some hilarious hax problems each time I try to best the peak of 1650+, but in hands of a patient and competent player I think this team has the potential to do it. Since it is my first RMT I want to appologize for any possible mistake and I'll be glad to hear the opinions of this comunity. Have a fun time with my team. Spoiler Aerodactyl (F) @ Focus Sash Trait: Unnerve EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk) - Stealth Rock - Taunt - Stone Edge - Earthquake Gyarados (M) @ Leftovers Trait: Intimidate EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Spd Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk) - Roar - Toxic - Waterfall - Substitute Tyranitar (F) @ Leftovers Trait: Sand Stream EVs: 252 HP / 180 Atk / 76 SDef Brave Nature (+Atk, -Spd) - Crunch - Focus Punch - Substitute - Ice Beam Jirachi @ Leftovers Trait: Serene Grace EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk) - Iron Head - Body Slam - Substitute - Fire Punch Gengar (M) @ Life Orb Trait: Levitate EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk) - Shadow Ball - Focus Blast - Substitute - Disable Flygon (M) @ Choice Scarf Trait: Levitate EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk) - Earthquake - Outrage - U-turn - Fire Punch
Hey overall great team only weak against teams that beat hax. A good suggestion would be to use Garchomp over Flygon cuz it's obviously faster and stronger, and who needs momentum when you have Jirachi's paralysis carrying the team. Good job with the rank too you deserved it LOL! Here's a fun battle I had against the team on the ladder everyone check it out it's hilarious LOL http://pastebin.com/QYHPziwN AND THEN THE EPIC REMATCH LOLOLOLOL http://pastebin.com/2ERACNTT
Well thanks for your words but I think you need to get a proper definition of the word hax, also nothing beats real hax but is not possible to have control over it anyway, that's why Liepard teams always do poorly in ranking.
Liepard teams are pretty much team matchup reliant, it can do exceeding well against the right team. Hi, I like how you used ADV sets into this team. Firstly, I would dump 164SAtk evs with Fire Blast on Aerodactyl as it OHKOes 248/8 Scizor, meaning you can take down Scizor turn 1 and still be able to set up SR. Aerodactyl isn't the best of SR setters in OU, so I would change it to the offensive pivot Landorus-T set to support your team with SR instead. Tbh I don't see the use of Gyarados here, so you might as well use a 252Hp/4Def/252SDef dragonite with Thunder Wave/Roost/Sub/Dtail to help phaze and also provide paralysis support for the team. Dragonite also has Multiscale, and arguably better defensive typing than Gyarados. SubDisable Gengar doesn't work well under sand conditions, mainly because it is extremely prone to being worn down by passive damage, and using LO causes it to die faster. I would change the set to a SubSplit set for longevity, and also serving as your team's spin blocker. SubDisableGar is only useful when used in conjunction with lots of hazards, as it will force many switches from your opponent. Flygon really just doesn't have the power to be a reliable scarfer in OU, despite having U-turn. If you want a fast U-turn user, just slap the scarf on Jirachi. Scarfrachi works very well under sand because every time you flinch the opp, he takes damage from Sand as well, so he will lose health faster. If you need a second ground immunity, Skarmory is a good choice as it provides the team with Spikes support, and can also phaze with Whirlwind. Interesting team i guess.
I had a long rate written up so I'll just give you the tl;dr. Try Landorus-T or Skarm over Aerodactyl. Change your Gengar set to SubSplit and maybe give it Lefties. Use ScarfChomp or ScarfTerrakion over Scarf Flygon since both of those synergize well with sand and have much better stats.
I am also a fan of Aero right now so you should change your set to this: Aerodactyl (F) @ Focus Sash Trait: Unnerve EVs: 216 Atk / 156 SAtk / 136 Spd Hasty Nature (+Spd, -Def) - Stealth Rock - Taunt - Rock Slide - Fire Blast Fast enough to 2HKO Starmie, enough Spec Atk to kill Scizor with Fire Blast, rest in attack to hit shit harder. Rock Slide is generally better on Aero since the extra damage on Stone Edge is hardly noticeable against common switch ins (Starmie, Tenta, etc) and the chance to flinch and better accuracy can be clutch against spinners. Gyarados idk... it sounds good on paper but in practice it's not really doing you any good. Not really sure why you're using it over Jellicent or RestTalk Gyara. Gengar wants Leftovers if you're using SubDisable. I'd change Flygon to Scarf Lando-T. Lando can clean up late-game a lot better and has higher bulk. Lando's EQ hits harder than Flygon's Outrage too. Skarmory is a massive pain in the ass since it can wall nearly your whole team so I'd recommend a different Jirachi set of: Jirachi @ Shuca Berry Trait: Serene Grace EVs: 56 Atk / 252 SAtk / 200 Spd Rash Nature (+SAtk, -SDef) - Iron Head - Thunder - Grass Knot/HP Fire - Icy Wind It outspeeds everything your current set does. Thanks to Shuca it can live an EQ from Lando or Chomper and kill it with Icey Wind. It can still flinch hax with the Thunder paralyze rate and icey wind speed drop. (Thunder is still 70% acc in sand. It has a higher para chance than T-bolt) Anyways weird ass team and it's not "classic standard" lmao.
