--------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------- Greetings PO Community. I bring forth my final RMT of the 5th Generation of Pokemon. Lately, I worked really hard on the ladder trying to accomplish what I had never thought was possible for me before Gen 5 came to a close, and I must say everything worked out really well. Why you ask? Because I peaked #1 on the Wifi OU Ladder!!! This is literally my greatest ladder achievement in PO history to date. Seeing that the Gen 6 meta-game is just around the corner (and that I got a few requests to post the team), I wanted to share my success with you all by posting the masterpiece that got me to rank 1 on the ladder. Before I do so however, I would like to note that this team was originally given to me by my good friend 4Real, however, after editing the team a bit to suit my preferences, and taking it to nowhere it has ever gone before, I am proud to post such a solid team. This team is pretty offensive overall (with some added bulk to it). It's a hail team that I have done amazingly well with over the past month or so, and has taken me as high as 1706 on the ladder (and hopefully higher before time is up). The theme of this RMT is Survival, because this team requires you to make careful judgements of what you should keep alive, and heavily relies on prediction to ensure that you make the right decisions of which Pokemon to keep alive and let die ("survival of the fittest"), in order to ultimately secure your own victory in each match. Overall it's pretty high-risk / high-reward. Nevertheless, I hope you all enjoy the team. Spoiler Emvee (Abomasnow) (M) @ Choice Band Trait: Snow Warning EVs: 108 HP / 252 Atk / 148 Spd Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk) - Ice Shard - Wood Hammer - Earthquake - Ice Punch For a hail team, Abomasnow is obviously needed. The question was which set to use. Choice Band Abomasnow has to be a personal favorite of mine, because of the sheer power it possesses. The moveset is pretty self explanatory. Ice Shard for Priority, Wood Hammer for annihilation. Earthquake is very important because it allows you to predict and take out Pokemon like Jirachi, Ninetales, and Heatran. Ice Punch is a filler for the 4th slot because it gives you a lot more powerful STAB that Ice Shard doesn't have. Play Abomasnow carefully though against opposing weather teams, because one wrong move can lose you the weather war. --------------------------------------------- Alyssa (Volcarona) (F) @ Lum Berry Trait: Flame Body EVs: 80 Def / 176 SAtk / 252 Spd Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk) - Quiver Dance - Fire Blast - Bug Buzz - Giga Drain Volcarona is essential for this team because it provides resistance to Bullet Punch and Mach Punch (which Hail Teams often struggle against). It counters Scizor and Breloom respectively, while adapting well in various settings, such as against Sun teams. Fire Blast gives you that extra power that Fiery Dance doesn't, allowing you to OHKO Landorus-T after Rocks damage and QD. Volcarona also helps against Scarf Jirachi, which is great (and even greater if it gets burned with Flame Body). Giga Drain helps me get back some HP which is always good (especially since I don't carry Roost or Leftovers), and beats Rotom-W and Starmie too. --------------------------------------------- Big Ed (Empoleon) (M) @ Leftovers Trait: Torrent EVs: 248 HP / 48 Def / 212 SDef Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk) - Scald - Stealth Rock - Blizzard - Roar Empoleon is a pretty unique addition in my opinion, as you don't see him used too often in OU. It has many functions on this team. It provides Stealth Rocks, acts as a phazer with Roar, and a wall against opposing Steels and Dragons. It is a hard counter to Latios/Latias, and helps prevent Pokemon such as Volcarona from setting up on me (as its high SDef allows it to take Special Hits extraordinarily well). Scald of course is helpful as it is STAB and can burn opposing Pokemon, while Blizzard is a necessary way to take down certain Dragons as you switch in on them. --------------------------------------------- LilOu (Mamoswine) (M) @ Focus Sash Trait: Thick Fat EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spd Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk) - Earthquake - Icicle Spear - Ice Shard - Superpower I usually lead with Mamoswine unless I see Breloom (and stay in if I know my sash won't be broken) because I like to bluff the fact that I have rocks. Icicle Spear is amazing to break opponent's Sash leads (even better if they decide to Taunt me, not knowing that I have Icicle Spear). It's also helpful in case you haven't broken Dragonite's Multiscale, as well as hitting Pokemon that Ice Shard wouldn't do that much damage to, such as Celebi. Mamoswine is great paired with Focus Sash as it allows me to stop sweeps (like Volcarona) and KO Pokemon that would otherwise do some real damage to the team (like Terrakion). --------------------------------------------- Z+V (Starmie) @ Leftovers Trait: Natural Cure EVs: 252 HP / 40 SDef / 216 Spd Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk) - Scald - Psyshock - Rapid Spin - Recover Next, we have a very important member to this team. Starmie spins away opposing hazards, which is EXTREMELY essential as without it, the team is weak to Stealth Rocks (and Mamoswine's sash gets automatically broken). This is why Starmie has taken the role of a bulky spinner, in order to ensure the highest chance of survivability against the opposing party. Starmie is also my main Pokemon to beat Keldeo, which can be pretty dangerous to this team otherwise. This set can also beat SkarmGar teams pretty easily with good prediction, and Recover keeps it alive longer. --------------------------------------------- Fabian (Kyurem) @ Choice Scarf Trait: Pressure EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk) - Draco Meteor - Dragon Pulse - Blizzard - Earth Power Kyurem is the final member of this team. It's sole purpose is to abuse the hail with Blizzard and revenge kill anything it can. Before, it used to be a Sub Roost variant, however it just wasn't getting me the results I needed. Therefore, I changed it to Scarf, and I must say it has shown amazing results. It has extraordinary power and has saved me in many games, allowing me to revenge kill Pokemon such as non scarf Keldeo, Lati@s, LO Starmie, etc. Dragon Pulse lets me hit for consistent damage while Draco Meteor is to get all out power for 1 turn. Earth Power was my last filler because it hits all the stuff I have trouble against, like Ninetales, Heatran, Jirachi, Scizor, etc. --------------------------------------------- Ultimately, this is a very solid hail team that may look weak to a lot of things, but actually works really well and deals with pretty much everything. Stall Teams with Jellicent can be pretty annoying to face though, but again if you're smart you can outplay it. Getting to #1 with this team was a lot of fun, and I have all my friends to thank for the support I was given. Like all good teams prediction is required. For this team, you must ensure that no hazards are up on your side for the entirety of the game (to prevent damage to your SR weak Pokemon). Lead with Abomasnow if your opponent doesn't use a weather team (lead with Starmie if they're using a weather-less SkarmGar team), Lead with Mamoswine if your opponent uses a weather team. Lead with Volcarona if your opponent is most likely to lead with Breloom. Then just play smartly from there is my last piece of advice. Don't sacrifice Pokemon you'll need to win. As always, I hope you guys enjoyed this RMT, and I thank you all for taking the time to visit this page. Any comments or positive feedback are much appreciated, and are highly encouraged. Feel free to let me know if you have any doubts or difficulties about anything this team has to offer. Importable is below. Spoiler Emvee (Abomasnow) (M) @ Choice Band Trait: Snow Warning EVs: 108 HP / 252 Atk / 148 Spd Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk) - Ice Shard - Wood Hammer - Earthquake - Ice Punch Alyssa (Volcarona) (F) @ Lum Berry Trait: Flame Body EVs: 80 Def / 176 SAtk / 252 Spd Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk) - Quiver Dance - Fire Blast - Bug Buzz - Giga Drain Big Ed (Empoleon) (M) @ Leftovers Trait: Torrent EVs: 248 HP / 48 Def / 212 SDef Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk) - Scald - Stealth Rock - Blizzard - Roar LilOu (Mamoswine) (M) @ Focus Sash Trait: Thick Fat EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spd Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk) - Earthquake - Icicle Spear - Ice Shard - Superpower Z+V (Starmie) @ Leftovers Trait: Natural Cure EVs: 252 HP / 40 SDef / 216 Spd Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk) - Scald - Psyshock - Rapid Spin - Recover Fabian (Kyurem) @ Choice Scarf Trait: Pressure EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk) - Draco Meteor - Dragon Pulse - Blizzard - Earth Power
so glad u finally RMT'd it man xD Lead Mamo is soooo great cuz it fucks up the common lead chomp these days, hence fucking up the whole chomp/loom/starmie core pretty well. Other than mamo being "pretty great", the rest of the team is "flawless" xD, tho i think custap skarm/ scarf gengar and a lead loom can cause you trouble sometimes. Overall, this team is great xD. Thnx for sharing it :)
I don't know how you got #1 when shit like tr conkeldurr wreks u m8 hehh obvious fake can u believe this kid No but seriously strong n bulky fighting types such as conkeldurr under trick room really gives u a tuff time m8 especially when they hit ur volc and then it gets burned n shit nice team :]
I must say that this is a fkn strong team. Congratulations on the peak, buddy :] Also, I must say that Empoleon deserves at least a cool gif. Take this one :]]] Rapid Spin, not bad. http://25.media.tumblr.com/2590e8da821d5bd0146b5fa725494584/tumblr_mioujpS6ZD1rmtxh8o2_500.gif
@phucvn: Thanks buddy glad you like the team! :] Starmie can beat SkarmGar teams pretty easy. Lead with Starmie. Scald turn 1. Psyshock turn 2. Gengar is gone. @Frostbite: Nahhh haven't had problems with Conkeldurr you can 2 hit KO with Volc and if your Volc dies before you KO it then revenge kill with Starmie and Mach Punch cant OHKO Kyurem, and I faced 0 Trick Room teams on the upper ladder thanks for rate :] @Pridy: STRONG!!! :]]]]]] @LilOU: FKN STRONG!!! :]]]]]]
Awesome team man! CB Abomasnow looks like an odd set to me, but if it works, it works. You could try out Focus Punch > Ice Punch to try and catch a Ferrothorn on the switch, but that's more fun and gimmicky than really reliable so w/e. I don't know how necessary Blizzard is on Empoleon, but Toxic looks like it could really help solve the nasty Jellicent weakness. That's really all I can say lol. Great team, and it's incredibly refreshing to see something else than Sand/Rain Offense do well on the ladder!
Amazing team, and gratz on your peak! :) Your Empoleon is quite uncommon, and one of my favourite parts of your team. Oh, and Sash Mamo is beast! Just one question though, does Aboma's 148 EVs in Speed outspeed anything crucial? Because old Aboma isn't exactly bulky, and running 252 HP helps it to survive longer. Anyways, gratz again~ ^_^
Hey Emvee, I had the pleasure of playing against you with this team the other day! As I'm sure you're more than aware, strong fighting types are the bane of hail teams like this. I can see things like banded Terrakion and Lucario being problematic for this team, although they can obviously be played around if you've managed to achieve such a high rating with it. Abomasnow looks like it could be a bit of a liability if you lock yourself into the wrong move. For instance being locked in on Ice Shard on an incoming Lucario could quickly lose you the game, if it packs Bullet Punch, although Hail and Life Orb will eventually take their toll, Ice Shard also makes it easier for Tyranitar to Pursuit you too should it get a free switch in. And locking yourself into Earthquake is never something that you want either due to how easy it is for many teams to exploit. The obvious change would be to change it to Expert Belt with the same set- however, I'm sure you've probably already tried this at some point. The team clearly works though, and you clearly know how to play it so good job man! .l.
@ZoroDark: Thanks for the rate buddy! Yeah you're right Toxic can be helpful but I use Blizzard to take down some of the Dragons that Empoleon can switch into. :] @Champ X:Thanks for the rate! :] 148 EV's in Speed for Abomasnow outruns the SDef Heatrans which usually have 8 Speed EV's (as well as anything and everything below that speed). @Corumba: Hey buddy thanks for the rate! :] Yeah Fighting types are generally a threat but if you play smart you can outplay. For Abomasnow there is always that risk of being locked into the wrong move, but because it has such great coverage it's a lot easier to predict what your opponent will go into. Usually you should never use Ice Shard if your opponent has something they can switch into with (unless they set up or something or locked into a move). That's why I have Ice Punch. :] In the event they set up +2 Lucario you can revenge kill with Kyurem, use Mamoswine if you still have Sash, and I'm pretty sure Starmie doesn't get OHKO'd on full and neither does Volcarona. You just gotta play smart haha I would run Ebelt but I really like Band's power and uniqueness. Thanks again my friend :] @zzazzdsa: I would like to note that this team was originally given to me by my good friend 4Real, however, after editing the team a bit to suit my preferences, and taking it to nowhere it has ever gone before, I am proud to post such a solid team Read the damn thread 'lol'.
I can confirm that when I played with Dice on an old server, he used this exact team. Same Kyurem set, same Mamo set, same Starmie set and almost the same Volc set. I can't vouch for Empoleon, but I know Dice didn't use CB Abomasnow, he used mixed Expert Belt Abomasnow. Anyway, apart from that, I can't see what the hype about you posting this is. Obviously you play it well but this is really standard hail offense which I was using 3/4 of a year ago which Dice (and Tox also made a very good version which was similar) pioneered over a year ago and arguably did it better. You've posted better and more original teams than this. The team is gonna fall hard if standard hail weaknesses occur. You've got to keep pressure up, but you know that if you got #1. Good work etc., I don't mean to come off like a prick, but I can't help feeling this isn't really your team, and I can't help feeling Dice posted this before somewhere.
nice rmt man, but I gave 4real this exact team with jirachi > Empoleon and we edited it. This is just the team we made with the exact same sets barring scarf kyurem over subroost
@two sides of one coin: >exact team >I can't vouch for Empoleon >mixed Expert Belt Abomasnow >this is really standard hail offense OH THE CONTRADICTIONS @blunder::[ It's not the exact same man and I acknowledged the fact that the team wasn't originally mine in the introduction, but I didn't wanna lie and post a team I didn't get to #1 with, ya feel me? I just wanted to post an RMT to close off gen 5, and getting #1 was all the more reason for it.
yo I'm also a user of Band Aboma and I find that Protect over Ice Punch is much more useful. Hail teams rely so heavily on knowing exactly what the opponent is going to do, Protect helps you to figure out what to go to accordingly. In general it lets you take on choiced mons with absolute ease.
idk, locked into Protect isn't exactly a good scenario, especially if your opp knows you're Choiced. Ice Punch is more useful, smashing stuff hard when you need that extra power Ice Shard simply doesn't have.
It's better to scout than have that little bit of extra power though. Ice shard and Ice punch are not that much different, and when a strong STAB is needed Woodhammer is the go-to move anyway. It's all just opinions i guess.
If you're banded ice shard should do enough for all intents and purposes anyway. Being locked into protect is obviously a bad thing in a lot of ways but certainly I think it's a moveslot where that's a viable alternative, and with a team so prediction-heavy to keep up pressure it seems like a viable option, albeit there's certainly situations where it'll just outright lose on momentum.
I don't feel like getting into a fight here, but you changed one Pokémon and one set and called it your team. If you think that you've made a completely different team by doing that, that's cool, but honestly your changes don't even work. CB Abomasnow was changed because it had to be changed, not because this team needs it more than MixBelt. So you changed a Steel-type which is a hard counter to the Latis to another less-used Steel ...who hard counters the Latis. And this isn't teamstealing? Please.
It's not like there's that many options for Hail offense, anyway. Also, if you actually read the introduction you would have seen Emvee admitted that he got this team from a friend and adapted it to his own wishes (like a innovative Abomasnow set which actually surprises opponents rather than the Ebelt set which has become the standard and lost its main niche, its unpredictability). As emvee said as well, it's not about showcasing one of his own, innovative teams, but mainly showing off (not meant in a bad way) his ladder team.
@kody: thanks for dropping a comment bro. I feel like protect would be better on an ebelt set as you don't get locked on to it. :]
Ey, great team. Seems pretty flawless to me. Possibility could be putting SR into Mamoswine and then Magnezone over Empoleon - any set, probably specs. It can deal with Pokemon like Scizor, Jirachi, Ferrothorn, and Forretress. Synergies well with Mamoswine, Kyurem, and Abomasnow. I would say Volc does this, but it has low survivability.
I do not like this team at all for it counters mine so hard :< Seriously though it's really stronf and cool you found a niche to use empoleon (not even subpetaya!). I'd run a bulkier, slower volcarona but it's just personal preference as there are some scarfers like salamence, kyurem-b and maybe jirachi that are worth outspeeding/tieing with after a boost. You might also change mamoswine's nature to jolly because outspeeding breloom is really cool and useful stuff. You have volcarona though so I don't think it's too much of a threat to your team (then again it's always a threat no matter how many counters you have). It's obviously an amazing team and not much needs to be changed, gratz on the peak and the team :]
Excellent team you have here, just a small nitpick. Seeing that hazards and Hail damage will wittle down Volcarona's health extremely quickly, why not run Leftovers>Lum Berry or Roost>Giga Drain. I can see why you are running Giga Drain but Roost is more reliable. Also, you might want to put 4 SAtk EVs so that psyshock can ohko 4/0 Gengar. Idk, extremely solid team, gratz on your peak!
Sup this is a pretty standard Offensive Hail archetype with Empoleon instead of some other bulky steel. I've vsed this team a few times on the ladder and wrecked it everytime with HO skarm teams. The amount of defensive weight Empoleon+Starmie need to carry is defiantly overbearing and can be too much to handle against teams with a combination of Fast fighters like Breloom, Keldeo, Lucario, Terrakion, etc. and strong priority users like CBDnite, Breloom, Scizor and Mamoswine to an extent. Scarf Jirachi can also be a pain in the ass because it can easily U-turn on your Iron Head switch ins and bring one of the problem mons I described for free. (like every HO team has at least 3 of the mons I mentioned) If you made your Starmie spread more offensive, you'd go against HO teams a lot better since uninvested Starmie hits piss weak against things that take neutral damage to it. (Like Jirachi and Scizor) When I used this team Empoleon was pretty much dead weight the entire time except for getting rocks up. It's still 3HKO'd by SpecsLatios and brings another Fighting weakness so I ended up changing it to SpecDef Jirachi and it worked better as a supporter because it can heal, SR, paralyze, etc. Way more useful than Emp. No Roar kinda sucks idk but you have kyreum and two priority users to revenge kill if your paralyzes don't work. You'd be weaker to Volc but oh well. Also not sure how CBAbomasnow is better than EBelt or Scarf/Specs except for the hipster surprise. No blizzard is pretty shitty.
Nice job breaking your peak and getting #1 xD Can't really give suggestions to improve the team but props for using Hail, Empoleon, and the song lol Cod Ghosts gonna be gooood :D
Thanks for the rates guys! :] really liking Finches idea of Mag (Emp is way too cool tho but still ScarfRachi's and Scizors must all die ban them all with your magnet pull!!!!!11). Also in regards to those that mentioned changes in the Volcarona set, it's difficult because Volcarona is my main switch into Breloom (assuming that we're not both out at the same time). I don't have much on this team for a Spore fodder so Volcarona with Lum is essential (can't fodder Starmie because it's important to spin hazards). But yeah overall I'm pretty glad to have been able to get #1 as Gen 5 came to a close. I'm gonna suck so bad during Gen 6 LOL. Hope you guys enjoyed the rmt's i've been making. Thanks everyone for the support :]
