    ==General==

    • One of the best Shell Smash users in the tier
    • Great abilities
    • Almost always gets a smash off with either Solid Rock or Sturdy
    • Great Attack
    • Unique typing
    • Low Speed
    • Cute turtle

    ==Set 1(Shell Smash)==:
    Tirtouga (M) @ Eviolite / Slash Plate
    Trait: Solid Rock / Sturdy
    EVs: 4 HP / 212 Atk / 12 Def / 76 SpD / 180 Spd
    Adamant Nature
    - Shell Smash
    - Waterfall / Aqua Tail
    - Stone Edge
    - Aqua Jet

    Set Comments

    • Tirtouga hits incredibly hard after a Shell Smash Boost.
    • Tirtouga has a great STAB combination, which get decent coverage only resisted by Ferroseed and Dry Skin Croagunk.
    • The given EVs are to maximize Tirtouga’s offensive capabilities. The leftover EVs are evenly spread out to achieve a bit of bulk before and after a Shell Smash boost.
    • Solid Rock decreases the damage taken from a super effective attack, thus making it easier for Tirtouga to set up against pokemon like Drilbur.
    • Regarding Tirtouga’s moveset. Shell Smash is an obvious choice, giving the little turtle an Attack, a Special Attack and a Speed boost all at once.
    • Stone Edge and Waterfall are compulsory STAB choices, hitting anything that isn’t Croagunk or a Ferroseed, hard.
    • The choice between Waterfall and Aqua Tail is the classic argument of Accuracy vs Power.
    • Next is Aqua Jet. Aqua Jet, being priority, allows Tirtouga to dodge slower forms of priority such as Houndour’s Sucker Punch. It also lets Tirtouga kill faster scarf-wielding users like Gastly.
    • The ability again is personal preference. Solid Rock with Eviolite, makes Tirtouga and solid switch in for any almost any pokemon. With Sturdy, however, Tirtouga gets and guaranteed Shell Smash boost. Sturdy lets the little turtle survive any hit and retaliate with either a STAB move or it can decide to Shell Smash.
    • Although the bulk Eviolite brings is sometime invaluable, Splash Plate is still a good option. Splash Plate trades Tirtouga's great bulk for even more power. It netts some specific KOes like on a Timburr after Stealth Rock.
    • Much like other offensive pokemon, Tirouga appreciates Knock Off and entry hazard support.

    ==Set 2(Support)==:
    Tirtouga (M) @ Eviolite
    Trait: Solid Rock
    EVs: 84 HP / 132 Atk / 172 Def / 120 Spd
    Relaxed Nature
    - Stealth Rock
    - Scald
    - Rock Slide
    - Knock Off / Earthquake / Aqua Jet

    Set Comments
    • This Tirtouga set focuses more on supporting the team. Let it be with entry hazards or Knock Off.
    • A great Fire-type switch in and with Solid Rock, Tirtouga can even tank their Electric coverage moves.
    • Stealth Rock is valuable to almost any team. Chipping Hp off any pokemon, and is especially helpful with Yanma in the tier.
    • The STAB choices are Rock Slide and the infamous Scald. Scald’s burn chance is really helpful against common switch-ins like Riolu.
    • The choice between Knock Off, Earthquake and Aqua Jet for the 4th moveslot is again up to personal preference that and the team self. Knock Off makes Tirtouga the ultimate teamplayer, removing the opponent’s Eviolite is pretty huge. Earthquake is an excellent lure to weakened or even KO Chinchou and Croagunk. Lastly there’s Aqua Jet. Aqua Jet, although weak without Attack investment still helps versus fast and frail attackers like Elekid.

    ==Other Options==

    • Hidden Power Fire could be used over something ay Aqua Jet. Its hits Ferroseed hard, especially after a boost. Tirtouga learns Earthquake with which it can use to hit Croagunk and Chinchou for super effective damage.
    • Rock Slide and Aqua Tail are good alternative STAB options, but is usually personal preference.
    • A mix or full special set using special moves like Hydro Pump, Ice Beam, Hidden Power and Earth Power.
    • An more defensive EV spread could be used, something like 164 HP / 52 Atk / 12 Def / 16 SpA / 236 SpD / 20 Spd. It sacrifices its speed and attack EVs for even more bulk.
    • Lum Berry are other item options.Lum Berry provides a safety net against status alignments such a Burn from Misdreavus or a Thunder Wave from Slowpoke.

    ==Checks & Counter==

    • Croagunk and Ferroseed are joint public enemy number one. Both resisting and taking minimal damage from Tirtouga’s STAB option. They must be weary of specific lures, like Earthquake or Hidden Power Fire.
    • Other defensive pokemon that can tank a hit and retaliate back check Tirtouga.
    • Pokemon like Slowpoke who can either Thunder Wave or hit Tirtouga hard with Scald.
    • Another example would be Strom Drain Lileep. Lileep can tank a Stone Edge at +2 and can Giga Drain the lost Hp.
    • Priority users like Iron Fist Timburr and Prankster Riolu can KO a weakened Tirtouga first.

    If anyone has a better EV spread for Support Tirtouga please post here. I took Smogon's spread for now.

    I'd slash Aqua Tail on the Shell Smash set, not just put it in OO. It does hit noticeably harder than Waterfall. I'd also slash Mystic Water and Lum Berry on the Shell Smash - Mystic Water powers up the Water move with no recoil, while Lum Berry lets you beat defensive Misdreavus after you've smashed. Other than that looks good.

    +2 212+ Atk Mystic Water Tirtouga Aqua Tail vs. 76 HP / 0 Def Eviolite Timburr: 24-28 (96 - 112%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
    +2 212+ Atk Mystic Water Tirtouga Waterfall vs. 76 HP / 0 Def Eviolite Timburr: 21-25 (84 - 100%) -- 37.5% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

    Slashed Aqua Tail and Splash Plate onto the Shell Smash set. Added Lum Berry to OO though. Thanks.

    Discussed this on server some iirc. Personally that EV Spread I gave you that you used on the Support one, I use for a 4 attacks set that I find extremely effective. (EQ/SE/Waterfall/Jet).
    I would Slash Waterfall on Scald and remove the Spatk EVs on the spread I'm about to give you (Don't think they can make a stat point elsewhere). The EV spread I gave you wasn't for a -Spe nature with a special move. If that is the case give it the following:
    EVs: EVs: 84 HP / 132 Atk / 184 Def / 12 SAtk / 76 SDef / 20 Spd

    Other than that it looks good to me.
