Anti Meta is not only viable, but in top tier UU battling it can be one of the better options. I have personally found a lot of success running standard meta counters and NU and LU poke tend to play into this. That is why i decided to exploit the potential threat that the NU tier can pose when used on UU teams! Hence...

    The NU Project~[IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

    Abomasnow
Abomasnow is well known for its hail use in OU which is banned in UU and is need to not even be a threat in the NU tier with its sub par stats, however I decided to take a shot with it and try to exploit its decent and unique typing.

    Abomasnow (F) @ leftovers
    Trait: Soundproof
    EVs: 240 HP / 16 Atk / 252 SDef
    Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
    - Leech Seed
    - Ice Shard
    - Wood Hammer
    - Earthquake/ Protect

This is the set i started with thinking with his type he could make for a good special attack absorber due to its nice water, grass and electric resist.

    Conclusion
I found Abomo to be underwhelming on Offensive teams and made the mistake of putting him on offensive teams to start with. He makes a good pivot but without offensive investment he cant hit shit and with offensive investment he is not a good pivot.

Once i put him on a defensive team I saw his use in my battles GREATLY increase and his typing became greatly helpful.

    KlinKlang
Klinklang has dominated the NU tier for a while now with it's amazing boosting move, decent power and ability to take a hit. I decided to test out how much i could take advantage of it in the UU metagame.

    (Klinklang) @ Choice Band
    Trait: Clear Body
    EVs: 100 HP / 252 Atk / 156 Spd
    Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
    - Volt Switch
    - Gear Grind
    - Wild Charge
    - Return

I used Choice Band due to the fast paced meta that would make it hard to find time to set up and because it can OHKO togekiss with rocks damage!

    Attempt 2 (2-2) -[IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

    Conclusion
I found Klinklang to work fairly well on offensive teams due to the access to volt switch and the ability to break subs and sashes, but he did not provide much use to defensive teams and just ended up being dead weight.

    Mission Statment

I am encouraging everyone to use this tread to dig down below the standard UU meta and share your findings of what NU poke you have found useful!

Please back up your posts with details, logs, sets, etc of why that poke is good (or is not good, but seemed good) in UU! Keep the chat civil and intelligent, but most of all HAVE FUN =D

Really awesome thread! Indigo will know just how much I've been extolling the virtues of Piloswine in UU recently - Pilo really is the king of the lower tiers (now that Golurk isn't usable in all of them... lol). Plus it's cute as heck.

    My preferred set for it:

    Piloswine (F) @ Eviolite
    Trait: Thick Fat
    EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SDef
    Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
    - Stealth Rock
    - Ice Shard
    - Icicle Spear
    - Earthquake

I'd love to be able to add a little more attack on to this thing's already respectable base 100 but it needs to run max defenses to better tank hits like scarf Heracross CC, LO Mienshao HJK, LO Sharpedo Waterfall etc. It's an aces tank that can easily take any physical hit in the tier that isn't band Heracross, and KO a huge amount back. It's also useful for Rocks and its Ice STAB, useful attack in EQ and priority in Ice Shard. Though it doesn't have recovery like Gligar it's also not set up bait for many common pokemon and also is capable of beating things like Raikou one on one. It can pack Roar if it wants to, or Endeavor if you're feeling good with prediction. It's a neat pokemon that isn't unreasonable to slot on a team to deal with some common threats while also getting up rocks. If Wish support were more common in the tier I'd use it more - maybe I might try to pair it with Alomomola as per the OP!

I can see Rhydon doing similar, probably tankier and with higher Atk but with less reliable STAB, no priority and worse weaknesses (4x grass + water, 2x ground). Also I bet Rhydon could possibly pull off a neat bulky RP set. Same for Torterra.

I'm gonna be dedicated to giving some of the pokemon you showed in the OP a spotlight in my UU teams herein. Using Eggy is such a cool idea, I'm gonna have to try to fit it in somewhere, and I love Drapion as LU players might know so I'll be giving that a go too. All of these pokemon have a potential to be useful in a unique way - and try unexpected things like Drifblim too lol.

Haven't been using Drapion for ages, same goes for Houndoom and Piloswine, but I know for a fact that Archeops works very well.

FrontierD (Archeops) (M) @ Flying Gem
    Trait: Defeatist
    EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
    Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
    - Quick Attack
    - Stone Edge
    - U-turn
    - Acrobatics

Earthquake doesn't do much to Rhyperiors anyways, and other steel types generally (Won't stay in on any of them in other words). Acrobatics with Flying gem OHKOs a lot of decent threats, Stone edge is also great for the even more used Togekiss and Zapdos. U-turn is obv scouting, while Quick attack is good for revengekilling/Last resort damage. Still does a lot of damage to pokemons that takes SE damage from any of the moves in defeatist range. Works well in this metagame with the increasing Offense, as nothing likes to switch in on it when you lead of with it, and Rhyperior/Golurk can generally switch in on the threats to this thing (Mienshao, Raikou, Darmanitan, Metagross... ye). Works very well. I'd really like to post my w/l streak with this thing, as it is definitely good, but I've played too many games with it. I know that my highest win streak without losing is 21 wins in a row tho ! I find that amazing, especially since I ran HO.

    Offensive, Full House, W/L - N/A [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

    Defensive not tested.

Overall, great U-Turner in tight situations, great for offensive pressure! if I could, I'd give it A in at least this offensive team!

When it comes to using Pokemon from a lower tier in UU you have to ask yourself whether it's actually serving a purpose that other Pokemon can't or if you're just using a lower tier Pokemon for the sake of it.

    http://pokemon-online.eu/forums/sho...nge-UU-Version&p=161291&viewfull=1#post161291

Here's a team I made for a forum challenge last year that had Rhydon on it. Under normal circumstances though, there's really no reason to be using Rhydon over Rhyperior. Rhyperior has higher attack and thanks to its solid rock ability, it also has better bulk even when you factor in Eviolite. Pokemon like Piloswine and Abomasnow on the other hand I can see working well due to their unique typing. Of all the current NU Pokemon I've tested in UU in the past I would say that Houndoom is probably the most useful.

    Houndoom (F) @ Life Orb
    Trait: Flash Fire
    EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SAtk / 252 Spd
    Hasty Nature (+Spd, -Def)
    - Crunch
    - Overheat
    - Pursuit
    - Sucker Punch

Has a pretty good STAB combination and strong priority but Houndoom's main draw is the fact that it can check and trap Pokemon like Chandelure and Victini. It's also a full stop to Taunt + WoW Mew which usually runs Psychic/Psyshock as it's only attacking move.

Man I'm loving this idea, it can show many people how NU and even NEU Pokes can actually be very viable in the Wifi UU tier. :D

I may have a try out myself, using the Regice Bulky Attacker Set and build a Bulky Offense team based(Victory) around it, as it is perfectly viable in UU as the BoltBeam + RestTalk combination can be very annoying to defeat indeed.

Annoying Orange (Regice) (M) @ Leftovers
    Trait: Clear Body
    EVs: 248 HP / 252 SAtk / 8 Spd
    Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
    - Rest
    - Sleep Talk
    - Ice Beam
    - Thunderbolt

    Thread revival!

I've always enjoyed using Seismitoad in both NU and UU. With its impressive 105/75/75 defenses, Seismitoad has the options of running a physically defensive or specially defensive set and can also set hazards through the use of Stealth Rock. With a solid ability in Water Absorb, it can switch into incoming water attacks and restore 25% of its health in the process. Its base 85 special attack stat is nothing to scoff at either, as it can damage the opponents with its primary STAB moves (Scald and Earth Power). Moves such as Toxic and Protect can be used to toxic stall the opponent if need be.

    [IMG] (M) @ Leftovers
    Trait: Water Absorb
    EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef OR 252 HP / 252 SDef / 4 Def
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk) OR Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
    - Stealth Rock/Toxic
    - Protect/Toxic
    - Scald
    - Earth Power

User 'Um Hello?' posted this is the 'Cool Stuff to use in UU' thread and I thought this was very interesting.

    [SECRET]

    Articuno @ BrightPowder
    Trait: Pressure
    EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
    Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
    - Substitute
    - Roost
    - Ice Beam
    - Protect

I've got to admit this set is as gimicky as they come, [saying that I could swap Ice Beam for Swagger, lol.]

Brightpowder gives you 10% more evasion, so moves like Fire Blast and Stone Edge that are likely to be coming towards Articuno are even more inaccurate, and due to their low PP of 8, down to 4 with pressure essentially when factoring in the substitute and protect the opponent isn't going to be threatening you for long. The speed is just to try and get the sub up on a bunch of things, like non-scarf Chandelure amongst others.

It would be possible to run Max HP > Max Sp.Atk but then if taunted you can become somewhat dead weight.

Sub for Scouting moves on slower opponents and blocking status.
Roost for recovery due to no lefties.
Ice Beam prevents taunt bait and Protect scouts vs faster or choiced opponents.

    This set will probably get you sworn at at at least one point of using it. To quote the Smogon page for brightpowder;

Be sure that if it does make a difference, however, your opponent is likely to be, well, somewhere between livid and murderous.

    Quick examples:

http://pastebin.com/LLECjETm : obviously the freeze and crit were lucky but the point was earlier on.

    http://pastebin.com/6UGdCaKt : again lucky but still :(
    [/SECRET]

I would personally replace Brightpowder with Leftovers to provide reliability and support it with a magic bounce user or a spinner.

Shedinja with protect and Swords Dance is quite viable if you have a spinner. But he's still a bit of a risky choice. Hazards are quite deadly for the ghost, but he can potentially wall up the late game (and give Suicune a headache).

So I have had this idea before, but I took it all the way up into OU.

I made an NU rain team in OU (only OU poke was Politoed), and it actually wasn't that bad.

    Some sets I used:

    Lapras @Leftovers
    Sassy
    252 HP/252 Sp. Def/4 Def
    Hydration

    Curse
    Rest
    Avalanche
    Waterfall

This set is pretty self-explanatory. Set up Curses to beef up your defense while your EVs maximize your special bulk. Setting up Lapras was actually pretty easy, and once she gets going she's nigh unstoppable.

    Piloswine @Eviolite
    Impish
    252HP/ 252 Defense/ 4 Attack
    Thick Fat

    Stealth Rock
    Earthquake
    Ice Shard
    Icicle Spear

Piloswine is pretty much a staple in NU, and he works pretty well in OU. The combination of Eviolite + Rain + Thick Fat makes this guy eat Fire moves for breakfast.
I've killed plenty of Heatrans with this guy.

    Basculin @Choice Band
    Jolly
    252 Speed/ 252 Attack
    Adaptability

    Aqua Jet
    Waterfall
    Crunch
    Superpower

Adaptability Waterfall hits quite hard in the rain. Crunch and Superpower work pretty well as coverage moves, and priority in Aqua Jet is always nice. This little guy is a powerhouse.

So I believe those are the correct sets/EVs/Natures. My PO is currently broken (I posted a topic about it and apparently no one has any answers for me), so I can't go and check. I know I used some other fun pokes on this team such as Pelipper and Whimsicott, but I don't remember all the details.
Naturally, a team full of NU pokemon will have its issues in OU, but I remember sweeping countless OU teams with Lapras.
And the team was a lot more fun to use than some of my more standard teams!

To be more relevant to this thread, there IS an NU Pokemon who I use in almost all of my UU teams:

    Cacturne @Expert Belt
    Adamant
    252 HP/ 252 Attack/ 4 Speed
    Water Absorb

    Seed Bomb
    Thunderpunch/Swords Dance
    Sucker Punch
    Superpower

The main reason I use Cacturne in UU is to counter the omnipresent Rest + CM Suicunes. I find that Cacturne does a respectable job at this, and if you'd prefer, you can use Suicune and other water types as set-up fodder to either set up SD or Spikes. I like to run Expert Belt to bluff a Choice Band, and it works probably 80% of the time. One pokemon who, in my experience, likes to come in to wall Cacturne is Umbreon. So I hit it with Seed Bomb a couple times to lull them into a false sense of security before I kill it with Superpower. Cacturne is also nice because priority is a major boon to any team, and he hits hard with Sucker Punch. I mostly use Thunderpunch to hit Flying types on the switch. It's a safe option to use against water types, and most people will switch in a Crobat or a Yanmega expecting to resist Seed Bomb. If it does enough damage, I can usually even finish them off with Sucker Punch.
So, overall Cacturne is good at walling many common water types, and he has the added benefit of priority (and Spikes if you run a different set).
