A new drop, a new day, a new analysis. Another Ghost in town, might as well. On Wiki Skeleton: Spoiler == General == Arguably the best offensive Ghost-type in the tier Has great Special Attack and Speed, along with usable Special Defense Has great boosting moves in Nasty Plot and Calm Mind Great special movepool too Useful supportive moves such as Will-O-Wisp, Taunt, and Pain Split are also cool Rather versatile as a result Poor Defense Kinda hard to set up as a result Very suspectible to Pursuit from Escavalier/Krookodile Nonetheless, Mismagius is a threat to watch out for == Nasty Plot == Mismagius @ Leftovers / Life Orb Trait: Levitate EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe Timid Nature - Nasty Plot - Shadow Ball - Hidden Power Fighting - Substitute / Thunderbolt Mismagius's cookie cutter Nasty Plot set With a Nasty Plot boost, Mismagius's power, speed, and coverage allow it to sweep through teams like a hot knife through butter The ability to spinblock is only a nice bonus, plus immunities to allow it to set up Nasty Plot is here because Mismagius aims to sweep Shadow Ball is a strong and accurate STAB move; and hits really hard after an NP Hidden Power Fighting provides perfect coverage with Shadow Ball, maiming those who dare endure a Shadow Ball Substitute allows Mismagius to evade status that may stop sweeps while allowing more setup opportunities Thunderbolt, however, allows it to deliver a harder blow to threats such as Feraligatr and Kabutops without a boost == SubCM == Mismagius @ Leftovers Trait: Levitate EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe Timid Nature - Substitute - Calm Mind - Shadow Ball - Thunderbolt This set aims to become a more bulky sweeper; be more threatening less quickly, but set up and become hard to take down on the special side Can also deliver some hard blows after a number of CM boosts Great coverage also helps this set succeed as well Substitute and Calm Mind work well together to avoid status and set up like a boss The two moves allow Mismagius to eventually become extremely threatening Shadow Ball is a reliable, strong STAB move to work with Thunderbolt provides good coverage == Support == Mismagius @ Leftovers Trait: Levitate EVs: 252 HP / 80 Def / 176 Spe Bold Nature - Will-O-Wisp - Taunt / Heal Bell - Shadow Ball - Pain Split MissyD 2.0; Mismagius is perfectly capable of going a support route with its movepool It stands out from its competition; Dusclops, with its greater Speed as well as Heal Bell If you want Speed over strong bulk; this is the Pokemon for you Functions more on balance than on heavy stall Will-O-Wisp burns many of the prominent physical attackers such as Scolipede and Hitmonchan Taunt deters any status or setup moves Shadow Ball is a usable STAB move; here just to stop Mismagius from being setup bait Heal Bell is usable to heal your team of status Pain Split provides Mismagius a half decent form of recovery === Other Options === I went down most of what Mismagius can viably run Choice sets are possible, but Rotom-N is better for those because of Volt Switch Thunder Wave Hex Psychic Dark Pulse Destiny Bond Perish Song === Checks and Counters === Escavalier Krookodile, Zoroark, Absol Houndoom can check Cinccino, ironically, since it can break Subs Cryogonal/Munchlax, they can also remove its boosts Outspeeding it and hitting it hard [/HIDE] Written: Spoiler == General == Although Mismagius is often overlooked in higher tiers due to the presence of {{5gou|Gengar}} and {{5glu|Chandelure}}, Mismagius shines as one of the top threats in LU. Its high Special Attack and Speed make it a force to be reckoned with; it also has a great movepool and two lethal boosting moves in [[Nasty Plot]] and [[Calm Mind]], which only sweeten the deal. Mismagius also has the ability to spinblock thanks to its typing, and it can go toe to toe with a lot of the relevant spinblockers in the tier with its power. [[Levitate]] is also a great ability, and allows Mismagius to be immune to [[Spikes]] and [[Toxic Spikes]] while being able to come in on Ground-type moves. Mismagius also has excellent support options in [[Will-O-Wisp]], [[Taunt]], [[Thunder Wave]], and [[Heal Bell]], meaning it can support its team while having extra surprise factor. Unfortunately, Mismagius's Defense is very poor, meaning it can find it difficult to set up. Its weakness to Dark-type does not help it, and leaves it bait to [[Pursuit]] users such as {{5glu|Escavalier}} and {{5glu|Krookodile}}. It also needs to use [[Calm Mind]] and [[Nasty Plot]] to become a complete offensive threat, and its poor Defense does not help in its ability to set up either. Nonetheless, Mismagius is still a top threat that must not go underestimated. == Nasty Plot == {{set | pkmn = Mismagius | item = Leftovers | item2 = Life Orb | ability = Levitate | nature = Timid | ev = 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe | move1 = Nasty Plot | move2 = Shadow Ball | move3 = Hidden Power Fighting | move4 = Substitute | move41 = Thunderbolt | gen = 5 }} This set is Mismagius's standard bread and butter set; with its great coverage, power, and Speed, it is very capable of sweeping a team in a moment's notice. Nasty Plot is the centerpiece of this set, and boosts Mismagius's great Special Attack to frightening levels. [[Shadow Ball]] provides a strong and reliable STAB move that hits very hard after a Nasty Plot boost, and provides great coverage overall. Hidden Power Fighting has perfect overall coverage with Shadow Ball, hitting threats such as {{5glu|Cinccino}} and {{5glu|Bisharp}} very hard after a boost. Finally, the last move all depends on what you're looking for. [[Substitute]] allows Mismagius to avoid paralysis and poison that may hinder its sweep while also granting it more setup opportunities. [[Thunderbolt]], however, allows Mismagius to maim {{5glu|Alomomola}} and {{5glu|Feraligatr}} without boosts; it also aids in Mismagius's ability to spinblock against {{5glu|Kabutops}}. The item choice all depends on your last moveslot; Leftovers works in tandem with Substitute so that Mismagius can set up Substitute a number of times in the match. Life Orb, however, provides Mismagius more power to be able to hit hard with its three attacks. == SubCM == {{set | pkmn = Mismagius | item = Leftovers | ability = Levitate | nature = Timid | ev = 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe | move1 = Substitute | move2 = Calm Mind | move3 = Shadow Ball | move4 = Thunderbolt | gen = 5 }} This set takes a more bulky approach on Mismagius; with Calm Mind, it becomes a powerful threat more slowly, but allows Mismagius to take hits and take on stall teams. Substitute and Calm Mind together make Mismagius a deadly bulky sweeper; evading status while getting many opportunities to set up Calm Mind. Shadow Ball is a strong and reliable STAB move that can hit very hard after numerous Calm Mind boosts, and also hits top threats such as {{5glu|Slowking}} and {{5glu|Uxie}} for great amounts of damage. Finally, [[Thunderbolt]] is chosen for its good overall coverage with Shadow Ball, hitting threats such as {{5glu|Clefable}} and {{5glu|Feraligatr}} fairly hard. This set, is however, walled by {{5glu|Steelix}}. == Support == {{set pkmn = Mismagius item = Leftovers ability = Levitate nature = Timid ev = 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe move1 = Will-O-Wisp | move12 = Thunder Wave move2 = Taunt | move21 = Heal Bell move3 = Shadow Ball move4 = Pain Split gen = 5 }} Although Mismagius is often seen as a special sweeper, it is perfectly capable of being a supportive Pokemon as well thanks to its movepool. Its speed and usable special bulk mean that it is capable of firing moves quickly while effectively combating stall teams. Mismagius also has the great ability to spinblock. While Mismagius faces heavy competition in this role from {{5glu|Dusclops}} due to its superior bulk, Mismagius has speed and offensive presence, meaning it fits on faster offensive teams rather than balanced or stall. Will-O-Wisp is a great move to weaken physical attackers, and wears down bulkier opponents. Thunder Wave, however, slows down faster paced teams, which helps with slower teams. Taunt is a great move to stop setup, especially from {{5glu|Roselia}}. Heal Bell, on the other hand, allows Mismagius to serve as a cleric, healing its team from status. Shadow Ball is a decently powerful STAB move, and even without investment, it still hits fairly hard. Pain Split serves as a decent form of recovery for it to stay healthy. The EV spread gives Mismagius enough speed to outpace the metagame and suppoer the team. === Other Options === There aren't many other options that Mismagius can viably run other than those listed above. [[Choice Specs]] and [[Choice Scarf]] are certainly usable with Mismagius's solid offensive stats, but these are outclassed by {{5glu|Rotom}} due to the latter's access to [[Volt Switch]]. Hex is also usable in conjunction with Thunder Wave or Will-O-Wisp to deal heavier damage than Shadow Ball, but is a fairly situational move in general. Psychic and Dark Pulse are also moves Mismagius can run, but provide no good coverage. [[Destiny Bond]] is perfectly usable to allow Mismagius to freely take down an opponent with it; and allows it to defeat {{5glu|Cryogonal}} and {{5glu|Kabutops}}, while luring {{5glu|Krookodile}}. [[Perish Song]] and [[Mean Look]] are also worth looking into to get a free kill as well, but is outclassed by its pre-evolution, {{5glu|Misdreavus}}. === Checks and Counters === Escavalier is bar none the best answer to Mismagius; it can take anything it throws at it with its bulk and typing, and can trap it with [[Pursuit]]. {{5glu|Krookodile}} and {{5glu|Absol}} are also capable of putting it in a bad position with their Dark STAB and Pursuit. {{5glu|Zoroark}} can disguise itself as a Fighting-type to attract Mismagius while defeating it with [[Dark Pulse]]. {{5glu|Cryogonal}} and {{5glu|Munchlax}} can take anything Mismagius has to throw at it, and they can remove its boosts with [[Haze]] and [[Whirlwind]], respectively. {{5glu|Steelix}} can switch into Calm Mind variants and destroy it with [[Gyro Ball]] or phaze with [[Roar]]. {{5glu|Cinccino}} can break its Substitutes and hit it hard with Bullet Seed or Rock Blast. In general, faster Pokemon can remove Mismagius without a Substitute.[/HIDE]
Talk more about the EV spread on the support set. Mention TBolt instead of HP Fighting on Sub CM. Mention phasing in C+C, as Mis relies on mostly set up to deal damage. Looks pretty good, keep up the good work!
I'd mention Destiny Bond in oo. Its a pretty cool option since it can help aid spin-blocking against kabutops. It can also function as a lure to beat dark types for other ghosts/psychic types etc.
Younger sister Misdreavus is probably the better choice for Perish trapping, but do you reckon it's worth mentioning?
