==General== *Great Typing, granting weakness to Fire and ground only *Base 100 stats all around *Good coverage *Flexibility ==Haxor== Jirachi @ Choice Scarf Trait: Serene Grace EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd Jolly/Adamant Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)/(+Atk, -SAtk) - Iron Head - Ice Punch - Trick/Fire Punch - ThunderPunch ==Set comments== *Jolly Nature allows it to gain the maximum speed, while Adamant gives it a little bit more strength *Air Balloon could be used over Choice Scarf for flexibility and ground temporary immunity *Iron Head: 60% chance to flinch *The other Punches are used for coverage: Fire/Ice Punch for Breloom, ThunderPunch for Gyarados *Those punches have a 20% chance of status activating *Has some trouble with bulky waters such as Slowbro, who can survive multiple thunderpunches and scald back in return. Likewise, Skarmory can take several ThunderPunches and Fire Punches. The Air Balloon item choice is far more useful to take care of Skarmory (though it will still struggle) than the Scarf set. *Burn is this Jirachi's nightmare *Trick with Choice Scarf can lock an opponent into a move, which is great against defensive Pokemon ==Sub Paraflinch== Jirachi @ Leftovers Trait: Serene Grace EVs: 252 HP / 160 Atk / 96 Spd Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk) - Substitute - Iron Head - Body Slam - Fire Punch/ThunderPunch ==Set Comments== *Substitute prevents status *96 EVs are meant to outspeed much of the metagame at first, such as Adamant Lucario, and Dragonite. *Iron Head = 60% flinch rate, while Body Slam = 60% Paralysis rate *EVs are spread for 101 HP substitutes, speed, and the rest to attack *Fire Punch and thunderpunch is there for coverage. It's more a filler move. Likewise, Ice Punch could be added on there. ==Other Options== *A SubCM set, such as in OU rain might be effective, but it does not have rain to reach its maximum potential. Similarly, the Specially defensive set is similar *Cosmic Power can work, but it needs Wish and Protect in order to work efficiently ==Checks & Counters== -Heatran gives Jirachi many problems, as does Fire types in generally, such as Victini and Chandelure, as Jirachi has no way to take them out quickly. -Bulky Pokemon who can use status against Jirachi, generally *Lucario ignores Jirachi's Flinch Haxing Prowess
I'm actually going to scrape off all the CM sets mainly because... well this is 1v1. why does the last set have both Choice Scarf and Substitute? x_x
A thread for Jirachi already exists here, although it's a bit old. Also, Inner Focus isn't limited to Lucario - Bisharp and Umbreon can do just the same. Also, why exactly does the Kings Rock help? I keep reading that and I never understood it... "All moves that actively deal damage and do not already have a chance to flinch will gain a 10% chance of flinching the opponent." ~Smogon Is the 20% on non-flinch moves really that big? Doesn't sound like something that should be relied on.
King's Rock doesn't work for moves with a flinch chance. Bisharp uses Defiant, not Inner Focus. Fire Punch is much more important that ThunderPunch to hit steels (especially Genesect) and overall more useful. Adamant Jirachi is pretty pointless - it needs Jolly to outspeed Genesect and tie with Victini and other Jirachi. Mention Zen Headbutt as a great backup STAB with a 40% flinch chance, also gives nice coverage. You're not going to be using a move other than Fire Punch anyway, so irrelevant. For C&C it's Fire-types in general that are Jirachi's problem, not specifically the rare Heatran. Chandelure and Victini do an equally good job. Apart from that, looks good!
I'll add the fire issue Jirachi has, but I generally use Thunderpunch more when Skarmory's in play. It gives more chances for the Paralysis, so I can paraflinch... though the 20% burn chance is good in its own right too
Calm Mind should get a mention, albeit a small one. Defensive threats, which are rare, are much more easily beaten running a set that possesses a boosting move.
So, question, does this thread mention anything new we need to add to its wiki set, or anything that needs editing or removing? Otherwise, should this thread be locked?
Took my time to rewrite the Jirachi article based on this information. If anyone has additions, feel free to ... do stuff. http://wiki.pokemon-online.eu/wiki/Jirachi/5th_Gen_1v1
Yeah, I noticed as well that I'm horrible at the general section. Also, am I the only one who updates his Thread-prefixes?
Well keep me updated of when you add stuff and I can proofread spelling, make minor edits, and redo the general and other analysis if I think it could do with that ^-^
