On Wiki Spoiler Can't believe such an awesome Pokemon isn't on the Wiki, but better late than never! Wiki Format (complete): Spoiler {{pokeheader |gen=5 }} {{TOC}} ==General== Deoxys-A has always been the premier offensive Pokemon in the game ever since its introduction in RSE. This is due to having the highest Attack and Special Attack stat in the game coupled with a blazing high base Speed of 150. It also has an excellent movepool for great coverage, making an already great Pokemon insanely powerful. However, every Pokemon has a flaw, and Deoxys-A's flaw just happens to be its pathetic 50/20/20 defenses, which allow even a weak neutral hit to possibly OHKO. Because of this, it is quite vulnerable to [[Choice Scarf]] and priority users; even a resisted [[Mach Punch]] can still leave a significant dent in it. Despite its weaknesses, if unprepared, Deoxys-A is an offensive nightmare to face on the battlefield. ==Sash Attacker== {{set |name=Sash Attacker |pkmn=Deoxys-A |item=Focus Sash |ability=Pressure |nature=Naive |ev=4 Atk / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd |move1=Psycho Boost |move2=Ice Beam |move22=Dark Pulse |move3=Superpower |move32=Hidden Power Fire |move4=ExtremeSpeed }} This set serves as an effective anti-lead, being able to hit fast and hit hard. Focus Sash gives Deoxys-A at least two turns to dish out as much damage as it possibly can, which is going to be a lot, considering its base 180 offensive stats. Psycho Boost is the STAB move of choice, as a 140 Base Power STAB move is going to do a lot and will be able to OHKO most of the metagame with ease, although the stat drops are unfavorable. Ice Beam is able to hit [[Dragon]]- and [[Ground-types]], namely {{5gubers|Rayquaza}} and {{5gubers|Groudon}}. However, Dark Pulse can be used instead for other Psychic-types such as {{5gubers|Arceus-Psychic}}, {{5gubers|Cresselia}}, and other Deoxys formes, while also having a handy 20% flinch rate. For the third moveslot, Superpower can be used against special walls, and can hit [[Steel]]- and [[Dark]]-types quite hard, being able to revenge kill {{5gubers|Darkrai}} with ease. Hidden Power Fire can be used instead of Superpower to get at the tier's most common hazard setters for x4 supereffective damage - {{5gubers|Ferrothorn}} and {{5gubers|Forretress}}. Both of these Pokemon can wall the entire set without this move. Finally, ExtremeSpeed can be used as a priority move to get rid of hazard setters before they set up one more layer, and also serves as an effective way to revenge kill. It can be forgone for another coverage move if you feel ExtremeSpeed is not necessary. ==Sash Lead== {{set |name=Sash Lead |pkmn=Deoxys-A |item=Focus Sash |ability=Pressure |nature=Naive |ev=4 Atk / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd |move1=Spikes |move12=Stealth Rock |move2=Psycho Boost |move3=Superpower |move32=Hidden Power Fire |move4=Ice Beam |move42=ExtremeSpeed |move43=Dark Pulse }} This set takes advantage of Deoxys-A's ability to force many switches to set up hazards, though it does compete with its alternate forme {{5gubers|Deoxys-D}} for a spot as a lead. The choice of which hazard to use is up to the player; Stealth Rock can be set up in one turn, while Spikes takes 3 turns to be fully set up. However, if you manage to get 3 layers of Spikes up, it deals consistent damage to all non-[[Flying]] types. Psycho Boost is again the STAB move of choice, being able to dispose of many opposing leads with relative ease. Superpower can put huge dents in leads such as {{5gubers|Dialga}} and {{5gubers|Tyranitar}}, while Hidden Power Fire can be used to get at hazard setting leads, namely Ferrothorn and Forretress. For the final moveslot, Ice Beam can be used to get rid of Dragon- and Ground-types, while ExtremeSpeed can be used to chip away at Sash leads and also to get one last hit in on incoming revenge killers before going down. Finally, Dark Pulse, while not listed, can also be used in the final moveslot against other Psychic-types such as {{5gubers|Deoxys-D}} who otherwise completely walls this set. ==Life Orb Attacker== {{set |name=Life Orb Attacker |pkmn=Deoxys-A |item=Focus Sash |ability=Pressure |nature=Naive |nature2=Rash |ev=4 Atk / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd |move1=Psycho Boost |move2=Ice Beam |move22=Dark Pulse |move3=Superpower |move4=ExtremeSpeed |move42=Hidden Power Fire }} If you just want raw, undeniable power, this set is the way to go. Life Orb gives Deoxys-A a huge power boost to its already insane offensive stats and gives it the chance to sweep. Psycho Boost is once again the STAB move of choice, being extremely powerful after EVs, STAB, and Life Orb damage is taken into consideration. Ice Beam is once again used for hitting Dragon- and Ground-types, while Dark Pulse is once again used to hit other Psychic-types. Superpower allows Deoxys-A to OHKO Darkrai, {{5gubers|Chansey}}, and {{5gubers|Blissey}}, while also gaining supereffective coverage on Steel-types. Finally, ExtremeSpeed can be used to pick off weakened foes and revenge killers, while Hidden Power Fire is (once again) used to hit common hazard setters, and has the advantage of not being affected by Superpower's Attack drop. ==Checks and Counters== As said in the General section, Deoxys-A is extremely weak to Choice Scarf and priority users due to its terrible defenses. Basically, anything faster than Deoxys-A can effectively check of kill it - including but not limited to Choice Scarf {{5gubers|Terrakion}} and {{5gubers|Genesect}}, as well as priority users such as {{5gubers|Scizor}}, {{5gubers|Giratina}}, {{5gubers|Arceus-Normal}}, and {{5gubers|Kabutops}}. Arceus-Psychic can take any move Deoxys-A uses bar Dark Pulse and proceed to pick it off with ExtremeSpeed. Chansey and Blissey can also completely wall any set not using Superpower. Ho-Oh's massive Special Defense allows it to tank Deoxys-A quite easily unless Stealth Rock is on its side. Specially Defensive Giratina can wall any move but a Life Orb boosted Ice Beam and can proceed to KO with [[Dragon Tail]]. [[Swift Swim]], [[Chlorophyll]], and [[Sand Rush]] users can all outspeed Deoxys-A in their respective weathers and kill it easily. Some notable examples include Kabutops, {{5gubers|Venusaur}}, and {{5gubers|Excadrill}}. Specially Defensive Latias can take hits quite well with its bulk and KO with a STAB [[Dragon Pulse]]. Bulky Steel- and Psychic-types such as {{5gubers|Metagross}}, {{5gubers|Bronzong}}, and {{5gubers|Jirachi}} can all wall Deoxys-A and kill it with a STAB Steel-type move. Finally, bulky {{5gubers|Arceus-Ghost}} can take hits all day, even supereffective hits, and can proceed to either KO it or set up [[Calm Mind]]. ==Other Options== Because of its excellent movepool, Deoxys-A has quite a few other options it can use. A Choice item could be considered, but the lack of versatility is an extreme downside to this, and Life Orb already boosts its offensive stats high enough as it is, while its Speed stat is high enough so that it probably won't need a Scarf. [[Psyshock]] can be considered for killing Pokemon such as Chansey who walls special moves and not have to deal with lowered stats from Superpower. [[Low Kick]] can be used to hit heavier Pokemon harder and not get your stats lowered, which is good in a tier filled with heavy Pokemon, but you risk not hitting as hard against lighter Pokemon. [[Shadow Ball]] can be used instead of Dark Pulse to avoid unintentionally boosting Terrakion's Attack with [[Justified]], but it leaves [[Swords Dance]] {{5gubers|Arceus-Normal}} free to set up, as it is immune to Shadow Ball. [[Icy Wind]] and [[Low Sweep]] can both help mitigate Deoxys-A's weakness to Choice Scarf, but its low Base Power makes it an unfavorable choice. [[Signal Beam]] can hit Dark- and Psychic-types supereffectively, but has a low base power as well. [[Taunt]] can be considered for shutting down healers and boosting sweepers, though Deoxys-A is usually better off just attacking. Finally [[Ice Punch]] can be used to hit Latias hard while also maintaining supereffective coverage. Don't see much point in mentioning its truly horrible defences AND its vulnerability to priority as separate points, but hey. xD The only thing I can see glaringly wrong is that you've got the Life Orb attacker listed with a Focus Sash as its hold item. Would Magic Coat be worth a mention on the lead set?
About the sash...whoops :/. C/P laziness ftw! I think Magic Coat would only work against other hazard setters, because most other leads can hit hard and would probably focus on eliminating Deoxys-A before they start setting up, but I've never actually used Magic Coat on Deo-A before so I'm just guessing here. But then again...not a lot of people would expect Magic Coat. Oh well, I'll list in in OO for now because it is kinda gimmicky
I can't see anything missing in the movesets.Scarf Gene can be a good check for Deo-A leads as it uturn it.Bulky Ghostceus can take pretty much everything and KO it back/cm setup thanks to recover.
I'd say to slash Magic Coat on the lead set, as it allows for Deoxys-A to beat Darkrai 1 on 1 and it punishes Deoxs-S/D
But then again why would you not just kill the Darkrai with Superpower. I agree it's good against opposing Deo's though.
I wouldn't include magic coat at all Shadow ball and extreme speed is way better to kill deo s considering spamming magic coat will just get u killed by fire punch Plus there are better things for surprise magic coat like gira o As for darkrai, bringing it down to 1% and making it lose his sleep pretty much neutralises it I would suggest ice punch in other options which lets it kill latias, while maintaining coverage But yeh, approved
Oh yeh I would also remove espeed deo s from c and c because that's just bad Also bulky steels walling deo a is a bit misleading since ferro and forre and both bulk steels get smashed Just say steel psychics or omit this part completely and just name the pokemon And how did u not mention rachi when thinking of steel psychics?
