On Wiki Spoiler Hey guys and girls! It took me long enough, and even then it isn't perfect. Here the analysis for Regigigas! ==General== *Those great stats may look amazing for an NU Pokemon (or any tier, for that reason) however Regigigas feel short of becoming an excellent Pokemon because of it’s one and only ability: Slow Start. This lowers Regigigas’ Attack and Speed for the first 5 turns, which really cripples it. *Slow Start means that he has to either stick to using a special or a defensive set if it wants some use. Even then phasing can reset this process and annoy it. *Status cripples it A LOT, as it stops Regigigas from ever reaching its full potential unless it is paired with a cleric. *A Normal typing easily grants Regigigas problems to common Fighting types such as Sawk, yet immunity to Ghost and no other weaknesses can back this up. *After 5 turns Regigigas can become a deadly wallbreaker with Slow Start wearing off. *It’s good offensive and an alright-ish defensive movepool helps this. *In conclusion, Regigigas is amazing if used to its fullest potential, but if used badly it can end up leaving you stuck in the mud. ==Defensive== Regigigas @ Leftovers Trait: Slow Start EVs: 224 HP / 96 Def / 188 SDef Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk) - Knock Off / Substitute - Thunder Wave / Toxic - Return - Earthquake / Drain Punch / Zen Headbutt *Since Regigigas isn’t made useful for 5 turns without any attack and speed boosts, it will have to live with a defensive set if it wishes to survive. *The provided EVs make Regigigas hit one above a Leftovers number, 96 Defense EVs allow it to take moves like Psyshock and Return a little bit better (Impish Nature helps this), and then the rest put into Special Defense so Regigigas can become a mixed wall as it evens out the stats quite well, putting them both at 308 and 303 respectively. *Knock Off can be used to annoy Choiced Users or any Eviolite uses that need their item to survive or what makes them a good Pokemon, however Substitute can be used to wall Seismic Toss and Night Shade users as Regigigas as 110 Base HP (424 HP altogether), meaning it can eventually defeat and counter some stall Pokemon that require this to do damage pretty easy; it also makes sure that Regigigas can’t be statused or crippled if it has a Substitute behind this! *Thunder Wave can be used to cripple fast Choiced or non-choiced users, meaning that they have to rely on a Heal Bell user to make them any good again. However, Toxic may be used to defeat stall etc. In the process, and it works really well with Substitute. *Return is a powerful STAB after 5 turns and with a really good attack stat even unboosted it is sure to take chunks of damage to anything that doesn’t resist or is immune to this set. *Earthquake counters those Rock and Steel types that resist Return and really does dent and damage them. Meanwhile, Drain Punch can be used to recover some HP back whilst waiting for Slow Start to wear off and potentially damage those frail Pokemon, such as Cinccino. However, please bear in mind that with Substitute and Thunder Wave, Misdreavus and Haunter completely walls this set. Because of this, Zen Headbutt can be used if the player wishes, but apart from not getting walled by Misdreavus and Haunter, it won’t be doing a lot (apart from maybe counter Fighting types). ==Offensive Passed== Regigigas @ Leftovers Trait: Slow Start EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk) - Return - Earthquake - Drain Punch - Zen Headbutt *An offensive set that is effective with a Focus Sash Ninjask, as it can get a “guaranteed” +2 Attack and +2 Speed boost, making Regigigas twice as powerful and fast after 5 turns! *The 4 SDef EVs are used to make sure Porygon doesn’t get its required Download boost. *Return is used to hit anything that doesn’t resist it very hard, as 102 Base Power is nothing to laugh at. *Earthquake is used to hit those Rock and Steel types that resist Return, as well as hitting Poison, Fire and Electric types for super-effective damage. *Drain Punch can also be used to hit those Rock and Steel types decently hard as it heals some of Regigigas’ health in the process, but should only be used if Regigigas is sure to OHKO or 2HKO the opponent and / or Regigigas needs recovery. It also hits those Ice, Dark and Normal types hard (not as hard as Return, but this would be recommended more because the move recovers HP as well as it takes damage). *Zen Headbutt is the final move on the set, as it hits Fighting and Poison types harder than Return as well as the possible chance to flinch! It needs to be noted though that the move has only 90% accuracy, so it may miss at times. =Other Options= *The Regi can run Confuse Ray with Thunder Wave on the first (1st) set, as it's possible to get it past Slow Start without even taking damage! However, it must be lucky to achieve this. *Regigigas can use a Substitute and Rock Polish set (along with Return and Drain Punch or Zen Headbutt), with maximum attack and speed EVs so it can take care of its middling speed when Slow Start is active, and it gives Regigigas something useful to do for 2 turns. However, Regigigas is still going to be weak for 2-3 more turns after that, so it won’t be able to do much damage, and chances are that Regigigas could be defeated in the 5 turns anyway, not to mention hazards cause a problem for it. *A special set can be used as Regigigas special stats aren’t lowered in the Slow Start process thanks to Regigigas’ large movepool, however since its speed is still lowered, Regigigas can still be defeated quite easily. =Checks and Counters= *Regigigas’ biggest enemy are hazards, most notably Toxic Spikes, as it can badly poison Regigigas without a Substitute and defeat it in 8 turns maximum, assuming that it doesn’t switch out (which isn’t recommended on an offensive set). *Its second biggest enemies are status and phasing. Both of these problems prevents the guy from reaching its full potential as they either cripple Regigigas or reset the Slow Star process (a mentioned before). *Without Zen Headbutt, levitating Ghost types can walk all over Regigigas and easily defeat it. *Since Regigigas’ speed is hindered with Slow Start, Fighting types such as Sawk, Gurdurr and the like can easily either set-up on it and / or knock it out in the process. Also, since Gurdurr can have Guts as its ability, it can take advantage of the status and become even more problematic for the team. *Defensive sets are countered by Heal Bell and Aromatherapy Pokemon, as they can remove Regigigas’ Toxic and Thunder Wave and proceed to stall Regigigas until its Slow Start isn’t in play anymore.
Hmmm...looking good so far for an analysis I wanted to do...all I can think of for now is mention Regiggias' weakness to phazing as that prevents it from reaching its full potential. Also emphasize its HEAVY weakness to status as that will prevent it from EVER reaching its full potential
Yup, nothing seems wrong with this, as far as I can see. Though one slight EV tweak springs to mind (imo). Perhaps 224 HP / 96 Def / 188 SDef Impish instead on the defensive set? It hits one above a Lefties number for HP, a jump point on defence, and the rest go into Special Defence, nearly equalising them both at 308 and 303 respectively.
Regi can run Confuse Ray on the first set with Twave to give it some free turns (with luck) to get past slow start. I think a mention of this in OO is fine. Also, definitely mention phazing in CC. Roar and Circle Throw completely stop Regi from ever getting past Slow Start.
Thanks to everyone that has posted and suggested so far! I'll edit this once I've got back from a theme park. ;) EDIT: Done!
Uh I know this is already approved but I still want to complain about it. I don't know why you are including a Baton Pass receiving set when Regigigas is one of the worst Baton Pass receivers in the tier with a paltry 328 Speed and 419 Attack at +2, +2 far lower then almost every other possible receiver Sawsbuck, Regirock, Emboar, Tauros, Rampardos, Armaldo, Gurdurr, Exeggutor, Charizard, Victreebel, Lickilicky, Hariyama, Driftblim, Fraxure, Lapras, Drapion, Kangaskhan, Relicanth, Muk, Luxray, Vigoroth and a hundred even more random receivers get both more attack and speed at +2, +2 and aren't crippled by arguably the worst ability in the game (Normalize comes close) don't argue that you can stall out the 5 turns and get massive Attack and Speed when half those Pokemon can further boost their stats during that time if they needed not to mention the fact you that if you have a +2 Speed +2 Attack Pokemon on the field the battle is probably going to be almost over/over in 5 turns. I also don't like the idea of making sets meant to be Baton Pass receivers when almost every Pokemon can do this I wouldn't do more then make a mention of it in the set comments of some of the best receivers.
