I've started doubles (rash decision after a loss in UU). I have no idea at all when it'll be over. As you know, I'm lazy and there's an awesome community, so I'll ask details here instead of spending time checking videos ^^ Let's keep it serious, and if you want to discuss anything related to doubles but not related to the purpose of the topic, do it somewhere else  Also, I repeat, do not get your hopes high up. I won't finish doubles in 2 days. Another thing, the questions do not relate to the advancement I'm in, they're just uncertainties I want to clear for the future. Ok, - What happens when a move targets a pokémon that fainted? Does the message "There was no target pokémon" display, or does it redirect to the other foe (the latter iirc)? What when you targeted your own ally (with a move that could as well target a foe)? - What happens when you want to use a move like rock throw, but all the pokémons except one foe are koed. Does it still let you choose your opponent or does it attack directly? Silly questions, easily tested, i know :/ Thanks. Current Questions: - What happens with roar + pursuit? Also, Smogon says pursuit doesn't work with Baton Pass, can you check that? :s - In singles, protect fails if someone switches out before. In doubles, does protect fail if any of the foe switches out first? Then there could be a tactic, which is to use explosion with one pokémon, and with the other to switch to a ghost, and as such not receiving any damage from the explosion but at the same time breaking the protects of the opponents... - When two pokémons "Block" an opponent (mean look block etc.) , is the opponent still blocked by the two or only by one? Or does the second blocking move fail? - Can assist target a move of your partner?
Tottally agreed with this new feature! Thank you coyotte. Well, i hope a great work from you, because i know your potential. The game are perfect now, we will kick that insane shoddybattle, with double battles it will be awesome, but i think it's not a priority... it's more a game option of a game priority. Well, good work, and i think the community need be patience with you, because programming it can be very hard... And i'm waiting the release of the game to call a lot of friends to play competitive game the most faster possible! =)
answer one, if there are two pokemon on the field, and both pokemon aim for the same one, if it is killed, the other enemy pokemon is attacked without a message It attacks directly and thanks for doing this, ill be here for moral support!
The AI is far too stupid in-game. I sent out a level 2 Zubat and my level 100 Kyogre out, hoping they would slaughter the Zubat and make it easy for me to test the second bullet pointed item. But NOOOOOOOOOO, they decide to use Quick Attack on Kyogre, and Zubat levels up by 12 when I defeat one of the opponents. Ugh. Anyway, comments are in the above quote in bold.
Ok, another question (and if this is answered by no it will really make things simpler) - Is there any case in which you can't select a particular target that you could in other circumstances, even if that target is alive? If the answer is no then it means I don't have to give the client the target choices for each attack. And: - For moves like twister / rock slide that targets both ennemies, is the 75% damage modifier applied if there is only ONE ennemy alive? (I know that moves that target everyone have that modifier applied in any situation)
To answer the first, yes and no. Self-afflicting moves and field affecting moves do not give a target option. Aside from that, no. Other moves do allow you to pick a target, even when it would hit the opponent's party or opponent's party and ally: the cursor is already selecting them all.
- If two pokémons use pursuit against the same opponent, do both pursuits work? - Does Mold breaker also work against an ally? - Do moves like surf, explosion, ... still work if there's an ally but no foe? - Does pressure work against an ally? (if i attack him) Does pressure of an opponent make you lose PP if you target the other opponent?
- Do moves like surf, explosion, ... still work if there's an ally but no foe? These moves that affect all pokemons on the battle you not can select a target. When you click on the attack, automatically you will attack all pokemons. At less you click in cancel button.
Actually, self-afflicting moves (tested with Growth) require you to target yourself. It takes you to the targeting screen, and gives you just one option: The Pokemon using the move. I also checked some field affecting moves. Weather moves have the cursor automatically select all 4 spaces on the field, and entry hazards have the cursor automatically select both of the opponent's space on the field. You still need to confirm the move choice by selecting any of the targeted Pokemon. My Rampardos's Earthquake ruined his team mate: A Gengar with Levitate. So yeah, Mold Breaker affects the ally as well. If you target an ally that has Pressure with your move, even if your ally is not the only target, Pressure will work. So be careful in Ubers Doubles, because you could lose 4 PP from using Earthquake once (one for using the move, and one for each other Pokemon on the field with Pressure). I know Explosion still works if there is no foe in singles, so I can only presume it does in doubles as well. I'll edit this post answering the other quoted points once I've finished the battle. EDIT 1: This is incorrect. The cursor highlights all of the Pokemon the move will affect, but you still have to confirm that you want to use the move by selecting any Pokemon targeted by the move... Have you been using NetBattle to answer questions on doubles? EDIT 2: First things first, ASDF! Having to level up a Pokemon to help me test this was tedious. And another thing: It would be so much easier if some of the damage calculators online had a double battles feature, cos I wouldn't have to do so much of this myself! One final comment before I get onto the battle results... I HATE SLOWBRO! Anyway... The effect of Lock-On / Mind Reader lasts for the next turn only. Also, only the user of Lock-On can attack the target of Lock-On and be guarenteed a hit. Therefore, Lock-On cannot target more than 1 Pokemon at once, as you'd waste the previous turn's worth of Lock-On trying to Lock-On to the other opponent. If both of your Pokemon choose Pursuit, and one of the opponent's Pokemon switches out, both Pokemon will use Pursuit on the fleeing Pokemon at 80 Base Power. Even if one of your Pokemon has chosen the other opponent as their target for Pursuit, you will Pursuit the fleeing opponent. If you target your ally when you use Pursuit, you will use Pursuit on the Pokemon that has come into battle. You won't hit your fleeing ally. However, you will hit a fleeing opponent, even if you target your ally. Moves that hit all Pokemon in battle will still hit your ally if it is the only remaining Pokemon on the field. If there is just 1 Pokemon remaining on the field at the end of a turn, and both teams still have Pokemon to send out, only 1 of the opposing team's Pokemon will be sent out at the same time as the remaining Pokemon's new ally. Then, the opposing team's second Pokemon is sent out after those two are on the field. However, Pressure's message will display once all of the Pokemon are out on the field. Pressure will only activate if a move hits a Pokemon that has Pressure as its ability. Therefore, if you attack the ally of a Pokemon with Pressure, you will still only lose 1 PP (For singles and doubles) If a Pokemon uses Charge when their Special Defense is at +6, it does not display that the Pokemon's Special Defense can't increase further. The boosting of the power of an Electric move used next turn is still applied, though. Remember also that Charge does not stack. One final thing: If an attack that should target more than one Pokemon (Surf, Explosion, Rock Slide etc) misses a Pokemon, whether it be in doubles or singles, it should display the message "%s avoided the attack!".
Ok, updated the questions in 1st post. Does surf work as well in singles when there's no one around? I mean, surf and explosion target all the others, so if explosion works, why not surf... What in doubles?
In singles, Explosion only still works because it makes the user of the move faint. It will still display that there was no target. Surf just displays that there was no target in singles. As for doubles... I'm gonna start the battle I mentioned in the previous post soon, so look for me editing that post.
Yes, i used netbattle. Well, sorry, i just wanna help but i think that coyotte need do things with ingame info, and not netbattle =p
Thanks :D. New Question (take your time :s) : - Apart from EQ, what are the moves that don't have reduced damage? (Explosion seems to have reduced damage from smogon's page, but I don't know about surf, ... ) - What happens with roar + pusuit? Also, Smogon says pursuit doesn't work with Baton Pass, can you check that? :s Edit: another question: - In singles, protect fails if someone switches out before.
Pursuit is at a normal speed level when nobody switches out manually (no BP or U-Turn), so it is like Smogon said. No, it only fails if the opponent switches out both Pokémon (so he doesn't use any attacks).
Have you actually tested this out in-game, or have you just presumed? I'm guessing the latter, because Pursuit apparently hits a Pokemon that is U-Turning out. As for Protect: In theory, it should work unless all of the other Pokemon on the field are switched out. I'll double check as soon as I can find my other DS =/
