Because I jelly about UU and LU Combinations thread </3

NU is a very diverse tier, there are many Pokemon you can use to make a successful team. A successful team definitely has to have a core. You can't just slap a bunch of powerful Pokemon together, they'll probably suck 8/10 times. There are certain roles that you need to fill in order to make a powerful team that can dominate the tier. There are also different kinds of playstyle you can choose from: either Hyper Offense, Stall, Balance etc.

A core is usually composed of 2-3 Pokemon. They should have either of the following: great synergy, ability to take out the checks/counters of his co-core member and, ability to support each other (wish passing etc.). There are two kinds of cores, Offensive cores and Defensive cores. Offensive cores obviously should have offensive Pokemon that can support each other and work well together. Defensive cores, on the other hand should be 2-3 defensive Pokemon that can take on each other's weaknesses.

Here is a core that I am using for a while now...

    Seismitoad @ Leftovers
    Trait: Water Absorb
    EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef
    Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
    - Stealth Rock
    - Scald
    - Earth Power
    - Knock Off / Toxic

    and

    Vileplume @ Black Sludge
    Trait: Effect Spore
    EVs: 252 HP / 208 Def / 48 SAtk
    Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
    - Giga Drain
    - Hidden Power [Fire]
    - Sleep Powder / Sludge Bomb
    - Synthesis / Aromatherapy

So, as you can see, this is obviously a defensive core. Seismitoad can take a lot of hits on the Special side, except the 4x super effective grass type moves that Vileplume can handle. Seismitoad can set up Stealth Rock, and use Knock Off to remove the items of its common switch-ins (Roselia, Vileplume, Tangela etc.). Toxic is also a good choice to cripple other threats that his core can handle. Vileplume will take the hits of the Physical side, except the likes of Flare Blitz from Emboar because Vileplume is weak to fire type attacks that Seismitoad can handle. It has Giga Drain as STAB, I like using Hidden Power Fire just for steel types especially Klinklang. The last two moves can be chosen among preference. Sleep Powder is Sleep Powder, Sludge Bomb gives you another attack, Synthesis regains health easier compared to Black Sludge ans Giga Drain, Aromatherapy is pretty much Heal Bell so it can also support Seismitoad if its poisoned/burned/asleep.

Here is another core that I enjoy using:

    Mesprit @ Leftovers
    Trait: Levitate
    EVs: 252 HP / 80 Def / 176 Spd
    Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
    - Substitute
    - Calm Mind
    - Thunderbolt / Hidden Power [Ground]
    - Psychic

    and

    Klinklang @ Leftovers
    Trait: Clear Body
    EVs: 120 HP / 252 Atk / 136 Spd
    Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
    - Substitute
    - Frustration / Wild Charge
    - Gear Grind
    - Shift Gear

So, two set up attackers: one physical and one special. Mesprit can take Ground and Fighting type attacks aimed at Klinklang while Klinklang can take Dark, Bug and Ghost attacks aimed at Mesprit. This core fits well on many teams but I prefer using it on Balanced teams. The only pokemon that this core can't handle is Houndoom, since it has Fire Blast for Klinklang and Crunch/Sucker Punch/Pursuit for Mesprit. I like to pair this core with Bulky SD Samurott because it can tank any of Houndoom's attacks and hit back with Waterfall or priority Aqua Jet. The evs spread for both pokemon are invested on HP, some Attack/Special Attack and some Speed but you can use max Attack/Special Attack and max Speed evs for Mesprit and Klinklang respectively.

    Share your own cores guys!

    Gurdurr (M) @ Eviolite
    Trait: Guts
    EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Spd
    Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
    - Drain Punch
    - Mach Punch
    - Ice Punch
    - Bulk Up

    +
    [IMG]
    Drapion (F) @ Choice Band
    Trait: Sniper
    EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
    Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
    - Crunch
    - Pursuit
    - Earthquake
    - Poison Jab

This is an offensive core of mine which I have been playing around with lately. The core's strategy is rather simple. Gurdurr is an amazing sweeper, but is walled hard by Psychic/Ghost pokemon, so Choice Band Drapion gets rid of them. I use Drapion over Houndoom/Skuntank because of its reliability and the option to run Choice Band, which isn't very good on the other trappers. Drapion's high speed also allows it to outspeed almost every Psychic and Ghost type, with the exception of Kadabra, Jynx and Haunter (Drapion speed ties). After the removal of Psychic types, Gurdurr has an easy time sweeping due to the combination of bulk and power. Drain Punch is an excellent move which makes people rip their eyeballs out. If the opponent's pokemon is still in good health, Gurdurr can tank the hit and recover most of its HP back. However, if the opponent's pokemon is in bad shape Gurdurr can simply take it out with a boosted Mach Punch. Even though Drapion has a Choice Band equipped, his attacks are rather weak. Drapion is more of a teamplayer than a powerhouse.

    Samurott (M) @ Life Orb
    Trait: Torrent
    EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
    Rash Nature (+SAtk, -SDef)
    - Aqua Jet
    - Hydro Pump
    - Ice Beam
    - Hidden Power [Grass]

Dageki (Sawk) (M) @ Choice Band
    Trait: Mold Breaker
    EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
    Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
    - Earthquake
    - Close Combat
    - Stone Edge
    - Ice Punch

My favourite offensive core, immense power from both sides of the spectrum, these 2 combined can literally 2hko the whole tier.

    I've been playing around with

Scyther - evio Wartortle - Evio

roost Sd bug bite a ace Scald Rapid Spin Foresight Rest (I have a cleric)

After an SD, this thing is super strong. 105 base speed isn't a joke either, roost and eviolite boosting his defenses to pretty good levels, that technician to have both moves at base 90 before factoring in stab. This thing has been proving its worth on my team, however, without wartortle (the only good rapid spinner in nu imo), it is pretty useless. They can switch in, lets go with rhydon for example, rhydon, and scare you out with rock blast and set up rocks, either way you won't be hitting more than 20% at neutral boosts. Wartortle is able to threaten out said rhydon with scald and spin away the rocks which leaves scyther at full hp and making sure it doesn't take that awful 50% in switch in. Alom can't do much besides toxic and try to stall, but predict right and you can easily hit +6 and kill alom, switch out if toxic is bothering you, or try and take down another poke or maybe two if they used alom really badly. Wartortle lacks reliable recovery, but rest+cleric is alright, eviolite gives it good defenses and it scares out anything that threatens scyther except manectric which won't be switching in to take a bug bite from scyther.

    Oh, NU Cores Thread!

    Core 1!
    Charizard + Torterra
    Charizard (M) @ Life Orb
    Trait: Blaze
    EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
    Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
    - Fire Blast
    - Air Slash
    - Focus Blast
    - Roost

    Torterra (M) @ Life Orb
    Trait: Overgrow
    EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spd
    Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
    - Earthquake
    - Wood Hammer
    - Swords Dance
    - Rock Polish

Together, these two put a massive dent into any team, any core, anything!!!! NU is a relitively bulky tier, but this HO core does a great job at breaking through stall, walls, etc. Also, pairing them up with a Water type like:
    Samurott (F) @ Life Orb
    Trait: Torrent
    EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDed / 252 Spd
    Timid Nature (+Spd, - Atk)
    - Hydro Pump
    - Ice Beam
    - Taunt
    - Grass Knot
is great because it forms a FWG core and the synergetic special support in conjunction with Torterra makes Double Dance Torterra sweeps much more likely if played properly.
Finally, hazards are nice, but not 100% necessary. (Everyone loves additional damage, though.)

    Core 2!
    Golbat + Seismitoad
    Golbat (F) @ Eviolite
    Trait: Inner Focus
    EVs: 240 HP / 252 Def / 16 Spd
    Impish Nature
    - Brave Bird
    - Toxic / Super Fang / U-turn
    - Taunt
    - Roost

    Seismitoad (F) @ Leftovers
    Trait: Water Absorb
    EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
    Timid Nature
    - Surf / Hydro Pump
    - Earth Power
    - Toxic
    - Stealth Rock / Substitute

Before I say anything else, Golbat is about as much of a bitch to stall as anything in NU. It has speed, taunt, bulk, recovery, and the ability to do consistent damage with super fang.
Sadly, this core is plagued by strong special attackers, but a nice wall or pivot of choice can patch up whatever threatens your team and/or this core.
Bar that small weakness, Seismitoad is a great anti-metagame Pokemon - with rocks or special attack + SubToxic. Adding in a synergetic Stallbreaker and you've got a ton covered!
I don't know why..can't explain it to well, just use it and you'll see!!!

    Cradily @ Leftovers
    Trait: Suction Cups
    EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef
    Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
    - Curse
    - Rest
    - Sleep Talk
    - Rock Slide

    Musharna (M) @ Leftovers
    Trait: Synchronize
    EVs: 240 HP / 252 Def / 16 SDef
    Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
    - Psychic
    - Moonlight
    - Thunder Wave
    - Heal Bell

This is a defensive core I've been testing. Cradily is an amazing late-game setup sweeper, and many teams are totally unprepared for it because you can't beat it with Toxic or by phazing thanks to Suction Cups. It's weak to Fighting though, and with Sawk everywhere you need some good counter to it. That's where Musharna comes in. Even Banded Sawk doesn't threaten this set. You also have paralysis support for Cradily who can even proceed to paraflinch with Rock Slide (!) as well as Heal Bell. This allows Cradily to tank many hits, Rest up when needed and then Musharna can wake it up. This combination requires additional support though to take out Steel-types that wall Cradily and Musharna, like Klinklang. Seismitoad is great for this, and also sets up Stealth Rock which helps Cradily a lot with sweeping. Also has a good matchup against Taunt users like Skuntank and Misdreavus who completely wall this core.

    Hello everyone.
As of late, I've been playing a ton of Wifi NU (since the metagame is great and ladder is ok, bar the few Lieprad abusers and Shell Smashing Gorebyss' users.)
So, I'll show you one of my favorite cores in Pokemon Online NU's tier. It's a defensive core and consists of two pokemon that normally function as superb walls in NU, so feel free to call it stadard, but it works.

    Tangela + Alomomola Core

    [IMG] (M) @ Eviolite
    Trait: Regenerator
    EVs: 248 HP / 248 Def / 12 Spd
    Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
    - Giga Drain
    - Leech Seed
    - Sleep Powder
    - Hidden Power [Ice]

    +

    [IMG] (M) @ Leftovers
    Trait: Regenerator
    EVs: 248 HP / 16 Def / 216 SDef / 28 Spd
    Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
    - Waterfall
    - Wish
    - Protect
    - Toxic

These two work together as synergetic walls. Alomomola has pretty great special bulk once you invest in it, while Tangela is one of the sturdies physically defensive pokemon in NU. Together, nothing much can break through them. Paired with hazards and the residual damage of Leech Seed (Tangela) and Toxic (Alomomola), they're basically stalling through a large portion of the metagame. Regenerator and Wish (+ Protect) are really great as well. Nothing much else to say...they work together well...give it a try!

Nice combination there, Finch. I personally like using Roselia over Tangela because it can set up hazards pretty easily, but still, Tangela is one heck of a wall.

I have another Offensive Core that I am currently testing:
    Mesprit @ Choice Band
    Trait: Levitate
    EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
    Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
    - Zen Headbutt
    - ThunderPunch
    - Ice Punch / Trick
    - U-turn

    +

    Electrode @ Choice Specs
    Trait: Aftermath
    EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
    Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
    - Thunderbolt
    - Hidden Power [Ice]
    - Signal Beam
    - Volt Switch

Simple VolTurn combination. As you can see, I really like abusing Mesprit. I have use it on most of my teams. Choice Band Mesprit is pretty rare, but its great against Special Walls like Lickilicky and Roselia given that Mesprit usually use Specially offensive moves like Psychic, Thunderbolt, etc. Zen Headbutt is STAB, Thunder and Ice punch for more coverage, U-turn for Skuntank and co. The next part of this core is Electrode. Electrode is a really interesting poke. Its the second fastest pokemon in the tier, and with Choice Specs, it can really punish unprepared teams. Tbolt is STAB, HP Ice gives more coverage, Signal Beam is for Mesprits and Musharnas, Volt Switch to scout. Choice Specs Manetric can be used over Electrode for more power but less speed, Lightningrod and Aftermath are both pretty good.
