You are a fucking idiot. With that said, I will follow up with a proper rebuttal after the usage of such unnecessary obscenities by making a comparison between the two. tl;dr Shoddy 2: STILL mostly, if not entirely coded in Java. Inferior GUI No customizable features to said GUI It will take them a year for them to program in the newest generation, while we at PO have made strides in a matter of 2 weeks. No Prior generations Scripts are non-existent. The ability to import teams from text universally is non-existent as well. Pokemon Online: Coded in C++ Unique and well-designed GUI Prior Generations Fast Performance with minimal strain on CPU. Importation of teams from both NETBATTLE AND SHODDY BATTLE Unique scripting language. More diverse base of users. More supportive base of users who are actually willing and sometimes able to legitimately contribute to the project. Both Single and Double battles have been made playable, so SB 2 can't make a claim to something that has been already done months in advance. Accurate in every way possible in terms of simulation. So all in all, "Pokemon Laboratory" = epic fail. I hope you get banned from here for posting such nonsensical claims.
I played a couple battles on it, its just another pokemon simulator, nothing really special about it. PO does have extra tier options w/ tournies as well. Basically its just shoddy 2 with color
B. Rizzo, you can get your point across without being rude. Don't make posts if they are derogatory towards other forum guests. He is entitled to his opinion no matter how strongly you feel. That being said i am glad they finally released the project. Kinda funny they don't have pm implemented and it looks very similar to shoddy battle 1. But its a step up none the less and anyone who wants to use it is more then welcome to do so. I will not tolerate negative things being said on forums i help moderate. Period. People can use what ever simulator they prefer.
so what exactly is different i might as well rename the 5th gen beta jules online and release it to the public it would be the same thing
Cool story, because when this guy said "Read it and weep. This is MUCH better than PO." I thought it warranted such a response. I mean he is coming on to the official program forum advertising what is an inferior program, and then claiming that it is better than the program that you moderate, thus insulting you by association. Yeah, i'm totally being the dick in this situation. I actually did get my point across quite nicely, yeah maybe the "You are a fucking idiot" part was a bit much but that did not mean that the entire post was not of merit, because of that one statement, hell that was the only derogatory part of my post, and it WAS warranted. So i'm sorry, actually, no i'm not.
The fact of the matter is, Smogon is a more diverse fanbase. Smogon is the biggest competitive Pokemon site in the world. Therefore, they have a stronger dev team, and should have the 5th gen up VERY soon. Secondly: This program has no lag, unlike Shoddy did. Third, and most importantly: This is the first beta.
Point 1: Smogon has no dev team. Playing pokemon and programming are two very distinct things. Ask Cathy: Point 2: Lag is determined by server, not by program. Once >100 people go on lab, it'll have lag. Point 3: "Beta" holds no meaning in this context, given that PO is technically in Beta as well, and has so much more than lab
Shukuchi, Smogon would appreciate it if you didn't act like a dipshit on behalf of the site. Thank you. B. Rizzo, it would also be appreciated if you weren't a douchebag. Both Pokemon Online and Pokemon Laboratory have their own strengths and weaknesses. I'm sure both can co-exist.
Obviously you cannot read either, because I said "More supportive base of users who are actually willing and sometimes able to legitimately contribute to the project." We've had multiple people on this forum contribute their services to make the program better by you know... ACTUALLY CODING FOR IT! Ok, Smogon is a big site and "Pokemon Competitor" had been on the horizon for god knows how long. What became of it? Oops thats right, it had to be dropped, because no one on their site has legit coding skill, thus overtime production was placed solely on one person, and it was to much for him to handle. Fast forward about 2-3 years later, here is this program called Shoddy Battle. Thus, here is another flaw to your argument. As Jules said, Smogon did not have any part in the development of Shoddy Battle and its newest incarnation. Their own staff did, Smogon just gave them their backing. Also, if they "should have the 5th gen up VERY soon" then they could not make any further advancement than we have, because the PO development team and its users actually made strides in programming the mechanics of this generation into the program. Take note that they are only using information available from the Japanese version of the ROM as the English version you know, has not been released yet. No where in my post did it say that Shoddy Battle 2 lags, but it is coded in a language that is highly inefficient to begin with. Just a few months ago this to was as brand new beta, and guess what? In those few months this program grew to eclipse both Netbattle Supremacy and Shoddy Battle in every way possible. So even if there is a new version of Shoddy Battle, how could this new simulator break new ground be it design-wise, function-wise, or even competitively? It cannot, because it most likely has already been done. I'm sorry, tell me how I was being a douchebag? All i'm doing is putting forth a reasonable argument as to why this person is wrong on all points. Which I have done, I only insulted him as he was being ignorant. Which I have addressed also, so i'm not doing this to be mean or to be elitist; but only because I like this program enough to defend it from idiots who don't know a good thing when they see it or have no respect for a decent product.
Sorry for making you feel that way, Firestorm. I'll try to be less forceful in my rebuttals as I excercise a bit of freedom of speech. I was merely imitating an apparent representative of Pokemon Online on the old NetBattle Supremacy site. Rebuttal 1: I never mentioned that they had "programming resources." I said "dev team" in reference to the fact that they have more interested people to program it. There's obviously interested people if Smogon is supporting it and a beta was released. Rebuttal 2: Actually, they've already got around 115 on their beta server right now, with absolutely no lag. Rebuttal 3: This beta, compared to PO, is somewhat comparable to the first beta of Pokemon Online compared to NBS at the time. And yes, I'm trying to decide on what online simulator to use. EDIT: Reading Rizzo's post now.
1. Firestorm should get you ban from the Smogon forums for being an ignorant fag. 2. If you were trying to decide which sim to use, you wouldn't of Advertise SB2 and then say "It's better than PO". Don't even try to take it back, you already fell in your own shit-hole.
Alright then... I just need time to think about it... I just found this stuff today... Kinda got excited... I mean, it's SHODDY 2... with a different name, so I made premature assumptions... I'll wait until both programs have B/W to really see which one is better... D: Sorry... v_v
Being reasonable usually doesn't include saying something is "epic fail" - especially in regards to what is a pretty solid program. In any case, there should be no animosity between players or staff on Pokemon Online and PokeLab. Everyone is working towards a similar goal right now which is an accurate Black & White simulator. Research is being done. Nobody should be going to the official forums / chat for either simulator and bashing it nor should they be advertising the other simulator on the official forums / chat. I personally enjoyed Pokemon Online quite a bit when I was actively playing VGC and I'm enjoying features of Pokemon Laboratory now as well. I'll likely be giving both more playtime once they have Generation V and VGC 2011 working. Hi Jules! PO scared me away with Comic Sans in the beginning actually! I remember a friend coming across the website and we were afraid it was a scam as nobody had heard of it. After the Comic Sans was removed from the screenshots and someone had tested, I dropped NetBattle Supremacy :P
But in all seriousness, you guys are being trolled hard by some guy who's angry about being banned.
Two points. 1 - Stop with the advertising. I don't want anyone to advertise ShoddyBattle or Pokemon Laboratory here, nor do I want anyone to advertise Pokemon Online elsewhere where it isn't allowed, especially on Smogon. 2 - I'm locking this topic. This could have been handled in a much better way. A simple mention that a public beta has been released and a nice discussion about it would have been acceptable, but I'm not having people bitching back and forth. Finally, my opinion. I'm glad it's been released at last. There's some good points, and there's some bad points, as there are with every single item in existance. It is a significant improvement on ShoddyBattle, for example, but some people still don't like the look of it. I'm looking forward to seeing the improvements that are made to Pokemon Laboratory in the future, and I hope that we don't get multiple instances of advertising from either people favouring Pokemon Online or Pokemon Laboratory. Topic locked.
