@Blitz Eh, 80 acc is still high enough that you're not likely to survive it by Substalling. And of course Pursuit is still gonna be a problem regardless, though if it's Choiced (do non-Choiced T-tar run Pursuit? It's been way too long) it should be much less of a problem. @Fincheh Arguably, when it comes to every other set in this thread, the "standard" set does "the job just fine", just sayin' ._. IMO the point of this thread is to find a set that does a different job just fine, not finding a set that does the standard's set's job.
@ Shurtugal Minor nitpick: Froslass actually does get Spikes. It lays them, then proceeds to use Destiny Bond. @ User Name You can try your luck; it's not horribly accurate either. Support Ttar gives you more trouble, but the set effectively shuts down Choiced Ttar and Politoed. And yes, Pursuit is used on Choiced Ttar.
@ Dragon., My Jellicent outspeeds CB tar, but doesn't hit 192 speed. Feraligatr rarely needs the speed. The bulk is always appreciated. If you need to chose between hitting a highly used Pokemon and a lesser used Pokemon, obviously you chose the first. That is if you aren't weak to either, which my team was. If you're weak to Jellicent, run Crunch. That's why I mentioned it in the set comments, as a secondary option. More than not, you'll likely be running Superpower. Froslass gets Spikes, Taunt, Destiny Bond, 110 speed, and Cursed Body. Smeargle is situational, sure it can work. But I like more bulky hazard stackers - more reliable. You can use whatever the hell you want. I stated my opinion, you just stated yours. Sure, your smeargle has a niche, but not a huge one! Also, I wasn't bashing it. I was stating how it is obsoleted in a way. Politoed likes HP Grass because Gastrodon and other bulky waters are all over. Even it you have Breloom, it doesn't want to get burnt switching in. Also, Encore is always viable, just ultra-situational (same with perish.) On offensive Politoed, coverage > support - just a rule of thumb, in my opinion. Lol. You say I sound stupid and don't know the purpose of this thread. I contribute my sets to this thread if I feel they've done well enough. I critique a set if I feel that it can be improved / isn't worth using even if it is 'creative.' Notice, this is all opinionated. One mans gold can be another's trash. So feel free to disagree with me, that is fine. But, no need to directly attack me. And those 'jerks in IDM' are all ban-evaders, people who just spam the ladder all day, and aimlessly insult users when they lose on the ladder. So, I laugh at you even bringing that up.
I meant SR for Froslass. And OK Finch. My only point with Toed was that one is neither better than the other. You have rights to opinion... if that is what it is you want. I only meant you sound stupid in the ways you say Smeargle is obsolete. You have to use it to understand. You don't. So that will forever remain. I never said Politoed's coverage wasn't useful -- only that it solely depends on the user. Situational or not neither is better than the other. But whatever. With Gatr, you don't seem to get it. "More likely or not" doesn't really matter; since they are coverage they need equal slash since they are both equally viable. If more users use Superpower, than okay, but you had said "Crunch can be used to a lesser extent" which is bullshit since there IS no lesser extent. That is the point I was trying to make. I'm not trying to attack you, and I feel hurt you see it that way.
Aerodactyl @Focus Sash Unnerve 164 Atk, 156 SpA, 188 Spe Naive (+Spe, -SpDef) -Stealth Rock -Fire Blast -Rock Slide -Taunt Definitely this. Fire Blast, with those EVs, OHKOs a Standard 248 HP Choice Band Scizor, while enough speed are given to outspeed Tornadus-T (well he's banned, so I guess you could take away a few EVs from Speed and put it into Attack if you'd like) which would mean anything from Alakazam to under are outsped. Fire Blast is also very useful against Forretress and Ferrothorn as well, and in fact you can play a some bit of mind games with them with Taunt. Now with Aerodacyl's great speed stat, Focus Sash, and Taunt is the perfect recipe for setting up rocks on your opponent's field while preventing them from happening on your end. Rock Slide is for STAB and much more accurate than Stone Edge, not to mention the 30% flinch rate which can be really handy in certain cases (against some noobs you could knock out half their team if you get lucky for the lolz). And along side those Atk EVs, you can deal decent damage with Rock Slide and get a good chunk off against Rotom-W and stop the likes of Dragonite to want to set up on you. It doesn't matter which nature you use (Hasty or Naive) I guess. But the great thing is that Aerodactyl's stats are perfect enough in that it's SpDef stat with 31 and a Naive nature is one point above a neutral Defense stat at 31 IVs, meaning that Download mons get an attack boost rather than what they usually prefer in Special Attack. ;D
Now this set isn't one I came up with, but I really don't get why more people don't use it: Superachi! Jirachi @ Life Orb Modest Nature (+SAtk -Atk) Trait: Serene Grace EV: 252 SAtk, 4 SDef, 252 Spd Calm Mind Psychic/ Flash Cannon/ Psyshock Grass Knot/ Thunderbolt/ Thunder HP Fire/ HP Ground/ Water Pulse The SubCM set is touted as being one of Jirachi's best sets, but personally I disagree. It takes a long time to get going, and due to having only 2 attacks it's much easier to wall. This set fixes those problems. There are 3 versions of this set. The first uses Psychic, Grass Knot and HP Fire to lure in and KO opposing bulky Water, Ground and Steel types. The 2nd uses Flash Cannon, Thunderbolt and HP Ground for superb netural coverage. The 3rd variant is obviously designed for rain - either STAB or Psyshock can be used on this set. Thunder gets perfect accuracy while having a 60% paralysis chance while Water Pulse gets a pseudo STAB and a 60% chance to confuse. It's not a high maintenance set either - just get rid of Landorus, Garchomp and Salamence and you're good to go. Mamoswine can do that easily with its Ice Shard. All variants hate Chansey and Blissey, apart from the 3rd if it has Psyshock. Heatran walls the first variant, while Ferrothorn walls the other 2. Conkeldurr can switch in on anything they do, and smash them to bits with its Fighting STABs. Ditto for Poison Heal Breloom, once the Toxic Orb's activated. Toxicroak can do much the same, doesn't it won't like Paralysis. So you see my point. It's a great sweeper/wallbreaker, it's easy to fit onto offensive teams and it doesn't need that much support either. Which begs the question: why don't more people use it?
IMO, it's likely because it isn't cheap enough. xD The only Jirachi sets I really see nowadays are the aforementioned SubCM, and the Specially Defensive Wish passer. I guess one problem with ol' Superrachi is that it's always walled by something, and it's usually something pretty common.
Vinc2612 (Jirachi) @ Shuca Berry Trait: Serene Grace EVs: 80 HP / 252 Atk / 176 Spd Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk) - Iron Head - Fire Punch - Stealth Rock - Ice Punch This is my preferred cool Rachi OU set. 176 Speed is enough to outspeed Max Speed Lucario, Modest Landorus, and Adamant Garchomp. All three are KOd by one of Jirachi's moves. Shuca berry works to absorb ground hits, and let Jirachi fake scarf. Great for getting a surprise KO on Scizor, and Dragonite looking to set up. As well as anything else that switches in on Stealth Rocks. It works similarly to the Ebelt Set, but it has a little more bulk and a stronger Iron Head, Shuca Berry can also help Jirachi live things like Earth Power from Modest +2 Speed Landorus and kill it in return with Ice Punch. It's a very niche Pokemon set, that only works if your team really needs it to fit in, but obviously, Jirachi is one of the most diverse Pokemon in OU, and it does what you need it to. Not to neglect, the 80 HP is to maximize bulk, as no speed past 308 is necessary. Other Options I've tried out U-turn, I'm not really in love with it, mainly because of the lack of coverage, it can be used over Stealth Rock if your team has another SR user, but overall their isn't much gain. Usually things like Volcarona or Heatran are in on Rachi, and you're too scared to U-turn anyways fearing Scarf or Flame Body. Healing Wish works a little bit better than U-turn IMO, after laying down SR and killing something, with Jirachi's remaining HP you can sacrifice it to heal up a sweeper, like Conkeldurr which recently took a lot of damage from its Flame Orb. Body Slam is cool for Paralysis, Gengar doesn't come in a lot and switches out if it is hit by an Iron Head, afraid of Scarf, so Thunder Wave is dumb. Anyways, that's the set. I didn't come up with it, I don't remember who did, but here it is for you folks who want to try it out. If you guys like this, I have plenty of more working gimmicky sets to try out. :p
Volcarona (F) @ Lum Berry Trait: Flame Body EVs: 140 Def / 252 SAtk / 116 Spd Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk) - Quiver Dance - Giga Drain - Fiery Dance - Bug Buzz The best and only acceptable Volcarona set. At +1 it lets you outspeed all Base 130s, at +2 you outrun all +1 Base 110s. EVs are spread to set up Quiver Dances on a lot of stuff. Let's you survive a Scizor Bullet Punch at 50% as well. Feel free to switch up the EVs to Sp. Def to be specially bulky.
passho berry is better chesto rest is acceptable hp ice is an acceptable slash if you are scared by garchomp / dragonite all in all that is not the only acceptable volcarona set and fire blast > fiery dance
Victini @ Expert Belt Trait: Victory Star EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk) - Blue Flare - Glaciate - Thunder - Focus Blast This is Expert Belt Victini :] Not my set but it works pretty well for killing Landorus-T, Banded T-tar and Gyarados by surprise.
My friend CTC runs Hidden Power Ice over Bug Buzz to achieve Fire/Grass/Ice coverage like Genesect. It's very good, I know Bug Buzz is STAB and obviously takes on Tyranitar better but this us usually paired up with Dugtrio so yeah. :].
Dat spread is terrible, since Nature is *1.1 I think the higher the stat the higher the boost etc... I'm not sure but it's what I feel, also: 220 Def / 120 SAtk / 116 Spd with Modest gives you the same stats but you can still allocate 52 EVs (you could increase the bulk even more or just make its SAtk higher)
Raikou @ Life Orb Trait: Pressure EVs: 252 SAtk / 252 Spd / 4 where ever you want Rash Nature (+SAtk, -SDef) - Thunderbolt - Hidden Power [Ice] - Weather Ball - Aura Sphere I've been using this set for a while in Sun and it is a boss. Rash nature may suck but with the boost in SAtk and Life Orb, it hits like a truck. BoltBeam gives Raikou excellent coverage by themselves but the real treats are the next two moves. Weather Ball gives it a 100 base power Fire move so with Sun it roasts Ferro, Rachi, Celebi and safely OHKO's Scizor. Aura Sphere is weakish but allows me to smack Ttar's, Heatrans and the Kyurems quite hard, I've won many weather wars with AS killing their Ttar's. Not to mention this set does well against all the other weather starters, Hippo is 2HKO'd as is Aboma and Poli can't live TBolt making it easier for me to keep Sun up. The only thing that sucks is that you can't utilise it's 115 base speed, meaning you only hit 329 which outspeeds positive base 100s.
I'm not sure how legit this is at the top of the ladder or competitively in general, but it will provide some funny times and some free KO's! Bronzong @ Air Balloon Ability: Levitate The idea here is that your opponent will see the air balloon and assume you're using Heatproof. Which stops most fire attacks being aimed at you. But it goes further than that as people will often waste 2 turns using a weak attack that synergieses with earthquake (e.g. Hp Ice, Stone Edge etc.) to break your balloon and then EQing thin air the turn after. I haven't been around for most of 5th gen, so I don't know if this idea has been though up before.
It would definitely be a lot of fun to try out, seeing as you've only gotta be careful about switching in carefully, then the rest hands itself to you on a silver platter. xD It's such a shame Zong doesn't have more offensive presence, though. Setting up SR or Trick Room is still good, however.
(Manectric) (M) @ Choice Scarf Trait: Lightningrod EVs: 4 Def / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk) - Volt Switch - Overheat - Hidden Power [Ice] - Switcheroo i know what you're thinking LU poke in OU? are you crazy woman? well no sir i am not for i have used this set to great success (though personally i use Tbolt over volt switch but up to you) Tbolt/Volt Switch can take a chunk out of anything that dosent resist it and is a straight OHKO to gyarados (not to mention outspeeds at +1) HP ice is an OHKO to Landorus and all dragons bar multiscale dnite (And again outspeeds mence and dnite at +1) Overheat is an OHKO to scizor and ferro while you might use flamethrower for no -2 SpATK drop it dosent always get the OHKO while Overheat is a guaranteed OHKO on Max HP Max SPDEF Ferro and Switcheroo can cripple walls that arent excpecting it plus even if you surrender its scarf to a wall it has decent speed and good power all on its own
Princess Luna, why Manectric? There are a lot of other more viable Pokemon in OU like Jolteon, Thundurus and even Raikou. Overheat might do good but it's expected from Manectric, that being it's only real edge. Also for my contribution bringing out my old Acro-fling Gliscor that has won me a lot of games in the past Gliscor (M) @ Toxic Orb Trait: Poison Heal EVs: 252 HP / 40 Def / 216 Spd Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk) - Acrobatics - Fling - Protect - Earthquake Speed EVs let you outrun all Lucario and Modest Landorus, letting you get off the Acrobatics (which is a 2HKO on the switch in) or Earthquake. Sponges Terrakion's attacks and most dragons thanks to the amazing defense stat and even gets to toxic Xatu with Fling! Acrobatics lets you hit Conkledurr and Celebi which makes is a big plus too.
BreLure Breloom @ Coba Berry Trait: Technician EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 HP Jolly Nature - Swords Dance - Natural Gift - Bullet Seed - Mach Punch Yeah I know, dropping Spore is painful, but a flying type technician-boosted Natural Gift OHKOs Celebi, Amoonguss and Toxicroak at +2 allowing Breloom to get past some of its common counters. Obviously Keldeo is the perfect teammate as it really appreciates those walls gone. Just remember that Natural Gift is one-use only, so don't waste it!
Natural Gift Breloom is the best thing ever hahaha. It's really neat with Yache as well since that gives you a strong Ice move to demolish Dragonite with, and it may come in handy to save you from Mamoswine as well! On another note, this is a great set as well. Gyarados (F) @ Normal Gem Trait: Intimidate EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spd Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk) - Dragon Dance - Double-Edge - Waterfall - Earthquake No need to weaken Rotom-W or Latias anymore when you can just blast them away with a Normal Gem boosted Double-Edge. This set requires much less support than your average Gyarados. Gyarados is just an amazing mon overall by checking top tier threats like Keldeo, Landorus-I and Scizor with ease. Unfortunately, Double-Edge isn't compatible with Moxie, but Intimidate is still a great ability.
Empoleon falls into the group of Pokémon that didn't gain much in the the fifth generation. The only useful move that it got was Scald, but Empoleon isn't nearly as effective of a user of it as other Pokémon, such as Vaporeon. Also, the introduction of Excadrill and Conkeldurr has hindered Empoleon's effectiveness. Nonetheless, Empoleon sports lots of useful resistances that a well-built team can benefit from, so it still has its uses in OU play. Empoleon @ Petaya Berry Trait: Torrent EVs: 16 HP / 252 SpA / 240 Spe Modest Nature (+SpA, -Atk) - Substitute - Agility - Hydro Pump - Ice Beam/Grass Knot "Empoleon's trademark set last Gen, this particular strategy is aimed towards end game clean-up and sweeping. It has the same playstyle and the same potential devastation that it can cause if played correctly. History aside, this set has a very straightforward setup process: switch in on one of Empoleon's numerous resistances, set up three Substitutes and obtain a +1 boost courtesy of its Petaya Berry, set up an Agility at some point during this time, and proceed to smash apart its opposition. By the end of this process, it hits like a nuke and outspeeds +1 Dragonite. In short, over the course of a relatively simple four to five turns, Empoleon is ready to go." Some damage Calcs: Spoiler +1 252+ SpA Torrent Empoleon Hydro Pump vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Tentacruel: 185-218 (50.82 - 59.89%) -- 85.94% chance to 2HKO +1 252+ SpA Torrent Empoleon Hydro Pump vs. 252 HP / 236+ SpD Celebi: 158-186 (39.1 - 46.03%) -- guaranteed 3HKO +1 252+ SpA Empoleon Ice Beam vs. 252 HP / 236+ SpD Celebi: 224-264 (55.44 - 65.34%) -- guaranteed 2HKO +1 252+ SpA Torrent Empoleon Hydro Pump vs. 244 HP / 252+ SpD Heatran: 600-708 (156.25 - 184.37%) -- guaranteed OHKO +1 252+ SpA Empoleon Grass Knot (100 BP) vs. 252 HP / 220+ SpD Jellicent: 230-272 (56.93 - 67.32%) -- guaranteed 2HKO +1 252+ SpA Torrent Empoleon Hydro Pump vs. 252 HP / 236+ SpD Jirachi: 316-373 (78.21 - 92.32%) -- guaranteed 2HKO +1 252+ SpA Empoleon Grass Knot (80 BP) vs. 0 HP / 252 SpD Starmie: 226-268 (86.59 - 102.68%) -- 18.75% chance to OHKO +1 252+ SpA Torrent Empoleon Hydro Pump vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Victini: 866-1022 (253.95 - 299.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO +1 252+ SpA Torrent Empoleon Hydro Pump vs. 0 HP / 252 SpD Vaporeon: 177-208 (44.13 - 51.87%) -- 13.28% chance to 2HKO *Please note, i had to add some special defence ev's so it wouldn't seem that bias, but some of them, they're on common sets seen in OU.*[/HIDE] If you read the damage calcs, you'll see why it's favored late game. A 4x resist to scizor's Bullet punch and it can decently wall latios *non choice specs variants*, Empoleon makes a amazing late game sweeper, capable of clearing through Weakened teams with ease. Combine this with hazard support and empoleon just laughs at attempts of it being walled. However the only trouble with empoleon is finding a good moment to set up. If you manage to do so late game, Tell the enemy GG.
Lol. I had this Empoleon set that I used on this fun rain team during PO League. Didn't want to post it because it wasn't the most serious team, but... Penguin (Empoleon) (M) @ Life Orb Trait: Torrent EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk) - Hydro Pump - Ice Beam - Agilty - Stealth Rock / Grass Knot / Rain Dance Yeah, LO Torrent Rain Boosted Hydro Pump is amazingly powerful. 2HKOd a (physically defensive) Ferrothorn once. Deals damage like a truck and has great defensive typing (checking dragon attacks - and the Latis specifically - while not shying down from many special walls when in the rain.) Not much to say - try it out!
Magnezone @ Leftovers Trait: Magnet Pull EVs: 252 HP / 200 SAtk / 56 Spd Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk) - Substitute - Charge Beam - Hidden Power [Ice] - Barrier This is a brand new set I made yesterday (so unfortunately it's still in theorymonning stages) Like almost all magnezones, it uses magnet pull to come in on ferrothorn and scizor and trap them. Insofar as you can come in successfully on ferrothorn without it using leech seed, or scizor using superpower [unless its attack is already reduced to -1]. Against ferrothorn: This is presuming that it isn't running bulldoze [I can't find a single one using that set in the usage statistics however]. Firstly you must set up a substitute; usually it takes 2 hits from power whip to break the sub. After you've made it you keep using barrier to get to +6, continually restoring the substitute when it is broken. It should always outspeed ferrothron. Once you have your defense to +6, apart from restoring the substitutes when you need to, you abuse charge beam as much as you can to get your special attack as high as you can (hopefully to +6, but surely even if it's KOed before that, it's no bad thing). With ferrothorn you can either continue spamming attacking moves to KO it, or you can stall it [barrier has 48 PP so this should be fairly easy too]. The fun happens once ferrothorn/scizor is dealt with however. Against Scizor: Ideally you come in on a banded pursuit/bullet punch, though other sets stand a fighting chance of being dealt with, so long as they're not sets without choice items on containing U-turn. The EVs allow it to outspeed Scizors with 8 Speed EVs [more common than max speed - checking usage stats AGAIN - and no speed at all is even more common]. Substitute is clearly a less important move here; only try and get substitute up once you get your defense to +6, unless you need to abuse superpower's attack drops to give you the space to boost your defense. Barring facing SD sets, this is then your chance to do as you would with ferrothorn, and attempt to boost your special attack stat as much as possible. Unless it has leftovers it will probably be defeated fairly quickly I think, especially with its low Sp. Def and being hit neutrally by electric I think. Hopefully you are all appreciating how the set functions. So, what happens when ferro/scizor is KOed? Well, you have +6 defense, and high, maybe +6 even, special attack, and boltbeam coverage (though you should probably aim to conceal your HP type up until this point). You're also behind a substitute. If they send out a physical attacker: This is unlikely, but something like banded or scarfed terrakion could be attempting a close combat at you. I can't imagine that it would do much more than enough to break the substitute, and a powerful +6 attack from magnezone should certainly hurt whatever it hits. They send out something with perish song: I'm pretty much thinking of politoed, and not expecting it to happen really, but if they do, it's fine, you probably wont want to stay in that long anyway. And OHKO with charge beam. They send out a special attacker: This is what will happen most of the time. For this you could pair magnezone with a chansey, or something else particularly strong special defensively that can abuse this state of affairs. With most special attackers they can usually be OHKOed by the pseudo-boltbeam combo magnezone possesses, for example scarfed latios with HP Fire. Some foes like heatran it's best advised to hit once with one of the two moves, probably for heavy damage, then switch to a counter of whatever move it uses. A phazer. Something like skarmory is perfectly likely too. Beating this probably depends on whether they have sturdy/a focus sash, and whether it's been broken. So, this set basically abuses 2 pokemon in the top 10 of the usage statistics, and their most common sets, and allows you to KO them, and either subsequently achieve a second KO, or at least draw out a specific type of threat, usually either a phazer or a special attacker.
Since it's introduction in gen4 people have tried to use charge beam as a sweeping move. However with only 50 base power, even at +6 it's not really enough and with only a 70 base power coverage move and appalling speed I really can't see this set achieving much. Loosing t-bolt, which has almost double the power, from the standard sub set is a big sacrifice.
It's not that it's going in for a sweep, more a pair of KOs. I imagine charge beam at +6 is probably comparable to tbolt at at least +2, which certainly should at least dent stuff. Plus with so many dragons and ground types, HP Ice has a good shot at killing stuff like that. It's also a lure for special attackers, which surely could have some use?
I guess, but you loose the ability to trap things like Jirachi and Skarmory without T-bolt, as well as just a generic STAB attack for when you're not trapping steels and the standard substitute + charge beam already gives that 'free ko'. Base 70 hp and 90 sp.def isn't gonna tank much either.
Another Jirachi set Jirachi @ Light Clay Trait: Serene Grace Timid Nature (+Spd -Atk) EV: 252 HP, 4 Def, 252 Spd Reflect Light Screen Healing Wish/Wish U-Turn Faces competition from Lati@s, but is bulkier and has better defensive typing.
Well, just to put it out there, Uxie does this much better. Levitate and better defenses make it a better dual screener and pivot. It gets Memento which helps you setup much better considering Healing wish is better left for mid or late game which isn't really that good to keep around your dual screener.
Uxie is not viable in OU js. Just ask Zoro/Finch. As for to add to the thread: Slowbro @ Leftovers Trait: Regenerator EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SAtk Quiet Nature (+SAtk, -Spd) - Trick Room - Psyshock - Surf - Fire Blast Been using this on my team to check Keldeo. Trick Room is a powerful move when you use it right, even on a non-TR team. Fire Blast for the OHKO on Ferro as well as 2HKO on Rachi. Psyshock for Keldeo/Terrak. Surf for STAB and possible rain boost.
Uxie may have a tiny, tiny niche in OU being a dual screener (but who uses that in 2013 anyway lol), and even then it faces stiff competition from Latis and Espeon (who bounces hazards back as well!). it's pretty funny you're still salty about that though. okay contribution time! dog (Heatran) (M) @ Air Balloon Trait: Flash Fire EVs: 4 Def / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk) - Flame Charge - Fire Blast - Earth Power - Hidden Power [Ice] This isn't exactly a new set, but it works surprisingly well in today's meta. It's pretty straight-forward: get rid of/weaken the Water types, set up a Flame Charge and go and wreck everything with Heatran's great coverage and powerful moves. Fire Blast is nothing to laugh at coming from a 130 base Special Attack, especially not when you factor in STAB and possibly a Flash Fire boost. HP Ice nails annoying mons such as Dragonite, while Earth Power gets rid of opposing Heatran. Air Balloon turns Garchomp, Mamoswine and Landorus-T into set up fodder and it's by far the best item for this set. I guess you could run Chople for Breloom, but that's very situational. A combination of HP Grass/Dragon Pulse in the last 2 slots is another option if you're dead afraid of Rotom-W.
Problem with that set is you've got Breloom and Conkeldurr with Mach Punch (former getting Technician) and Terrakion and Keldeo commonly run Scarf sets so it's rather easily revenged by a lot of the meta. Same reason Dragon Dance Tyranitar's not really viable anymore. I think Volcarona is a better boosting sweeper than Heatran, although Heatran doesn't need Rapid Spin support so that's something...
I'll preface this by saying that I have used this pokemon in OU very successfully all things considered. Also, it's on my rain team. Shedinja @Focus Sash Adamant Nature 252 Atk/ 252 Speed X-scissor Shadow Sneak Will-o-wisp Baton Pass As I said, I use this little guy on my rain team which is important for a couple reasons: 1) I need rain to cancel out Sandstorm or Hail and 2) Rain turns Sub + Toxic Tentacruel into (in my opinion) the best spinner in OU Anyways, Shedinja blocks quite a few really threatening pokemon in OU. Specs/Scarf Latios typically only carry one move that can touch Sheddy which is HP Fire, and locking yourself into HP Fire against a rain team is pretty silly. Tyranitars looove to switch into Shedinja, and I will Baton Pass straight into a Dugtrio if they try it (Same goes for Heatran). People who switch in Ferrothorn or Garchomp hoping I will kill myself with their ability are in danger of being crippled by Will-o-wisp. Keldeos that don't run HP Ghost usually cannot touch Sheddy at all. Basically any choice-locked pokemon can become a liability. Sub roosting dragons such as Dragonite and Latias also usually can't touch Shedinja, and I WILL PP stall Dragonite if I need to. Swords Dance Scizors often can't hurt Shedinja. Aside from the very rare sub+seed+Toxic Heal Breloom, he can't hurt Shedinja either, and the list goes on. So basically, this pokemon is a pain to deal with if you play smart. Your opponent has to play carefully and conservatively so that he doesn't end up with a team that can't touch Shedinja. Shedinja can force switches like no other which is great when you have your own hazards set up. Shedinja can spin block things like Starmie with ease. He isn't seen very often in OU which can help in the surprise department. And finally, Shedinja is adorable. ADORABLE.
I really want the little guy to be viable. Really. The problem is the thing takes a shit load of effort to support, and the team has to be tailored to it. It had a niche in the Ubers tier (but not in OU), and that was in Gen IV. It isn't even seen in BW Ubers, and in current OU, it faces even more problems. Stealth Rock, Sand Stream, and Ferrothorn are omnipresent and destroy Shedinja (Rain won't solve the SS problem because the weather inducer can just come in again), with things like Kyurem-B even ignoring its ability. This isn't even taking into account the awful stats it possesses.
Like Caitsith3394, if you play smart, Sheddie can be a big pain the ass at times. I never have a probelm with Steath rock, as i spin them away.. or reflect them. (but if you fail shedinja becomes dead weight). The butt load of support shedinja needs is insane, but it's greatly rewarding. Walling the likes of a choice banded Scizor *Bullet Punch* or Salamence *outrage* is a great feat not many bugs get to brag about. But again like you said, Shedinja's biggest probelm is how common Ttar is and ferrothorn. Baton passing shedinja a sub is really good. Still, i suggest using shed in ubers if anything
I used Shedinja quite well in OU. I had a decent team build around it that didn't use weather nor a spinner. Just the presence of Shedinja was enough to keep my team's momentum up. For those interested my team is here The set I used for sheddy is desu (Shedinja) @ Focus Sash Trait: Wonder Guard EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spd Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk) - Hone Claws - Baton Pass - Sunny Day - Shadow Sneak This set is amazing considering you don't have the burden of maintaining your weather up. The main point of the team and set is, because it's weatherless, your opponent well be less likely to keep their Tyranitar or Abomasnow healthy. Once they have been eliminated, whenever you get the opportunity to switch Shedinja in you can. Use Sunny day, and from then on you're allowed to go around with your free switches. Stealth rocks should be kept away by using Xatu, with wish support from Jirachi. Gastrodon is the general special defense switch in while Mienshao and Dragonite keep offensive pressure. Also, Reckless Hi Jump Kick with Hone Claws boost = free kills. Amazing combo that I've tried it. It can work with Hustle users too or other faster mons that rely on low accuracy. but yeah, this is the set that I've won majority of my gym battles with.
