I gave you an idea. ;) What we meant was Pokemon animations. This website: http://sprites.pokecheck.org/ has all of the animated sprites that we could re-host. I don't get this at all, and I use the same mac client. Also, I am not able to see the logger at all. There is no black box. EDIT: I am not able to have more than one version of the new battle window open at a time anyway. As they use the same code, I wonder if you could fix this too.
I'm only doing move animations for now, animated pokemon sprites i keep for later. Battle Options -> New Battle Window -> logger You'll be able to have more than one version open when the graphical library (Qt) releases its version 5. Then it'll be possible, otherwise it's a physical impossibility.
Spoiler Whenever I save a log of a pokemon battle, I have two files that actually save: 1 is the actual written log of the battle (like the ones you used for aesoft,) while the other is a replay file that can only be opened with PO's Replay Viewer. The PO Replay Viewer will only let me view the latter files.
No, I mean that occasionally the battles I save save only as the normal logs and there's no actual replay file saved in addition. Sorry if this still doesn't sound like it makes sense...
So you get the .html file but not the .poreplay file. Yea, that has never happened to me... How often does this happen?
I may just be repeating what someone else noticed but it appears Quagsire's health exceeds 100% in Kyrk's video here Thought I might just say it in case nobody noticed.
If you have an order of animations you want us to make, feel free to post them. Croak is going to teach me how to make his GIMP stuff better, so I can help with that. EDIT: Oh, and I'm also having a bug that doesn't let me spectate a battle if I enter before both trainers have a pokemon out. I have to use the old window to do that.
Added another test video with added animated pokemon sprites (thanks to coyotte for showing me the scripts and enduring my inability to follow simple instructions): We'll be using this version of the replayer in the 4th BotW with Luck>Skill and Nikitas. Stuff that needs to be fixed/added (Sorry if I've repeated myself in prior): 1. Alternate forms - In the second battle of the video I showed, Deoxys-D only showed the default Deoxys-N sprite. This applied to other pokemon sprites with alternate forms as well such as Keldeo, Wormadam, and Rotom. 2. Shiny pokemon - The animated pokemon don't have shiny sprites. This may not really be such a huge deal, but it's at least worth mentioning. 3. Logger speeds - I'm working on finding a more comfortable logger speed atm in the script coyotte showed me. I delayed the speed slightly in the video, but I'll probably slow it down even more. 4. Better status indicator - While the color changes showing the pokemon conditions are a very nice touch, showing status labels on top of that next to the HP bar or something like that would be a bit more convenient. Adding status boosts under/over the HP bar as well is optional imo. 5. Hazards indicator - Hazards like Stealth Rocks and Spikes don't show when they're up on the field. 6. Skip button - I'll have to record this later to show it. It does nothing when the video is playing, and when I skip when it's paused it only skips one clip of the log rather than a full turn. For example if there's a turn where a bunch of players are spectating a battle turn 1 or something like that, instead of skipping to turn 2 it skips to a part where it says a player is watching the battle or something like that. 7. Reversal of certain attack animations - Animations such as Close Combat aren't flipped when used against the opponent, so it looks sort of weird. 8. Lag spikes - It may just be my client or script, but sometimes when I battle or watch live battles on the new battle window I get these lag spikes to where I can't do anything, even talk on the server, until I exit out of the battle window. An observation I made is that most of time that happens in my battles is whenever I have team preview on, and when I watch battles. When watching other players' battles, it tends to lag when I try watching before or during the early turns of the battle; I can tell because I would wait a few minutes wondering why they're not doing anything, exit and reenter the battle, and notice that the battle is now almost over.
Like Kyrk, I did a video demonstrating the new replay as far as we have it, though in 1080p ^^ I did put it on public, so tell me if you want me to take it down. This thread is public though, so I doubt there is a problem... I get the same problems as Kyrk, so... yea. I'll try to work on some move animations with Croak.
So... I fixed a problem with the animated window in general (maybe tha'ts what has been causing your bugs, kyrk). I also upped the time the logs stay, and added the calm mind animation (better looking than what I posted in A&G). Not yet added formes, but that will come.
Ok, so after talking to PokeAIM MD and TonyFlygon, here is what they wanted in a nutshell: Larger Pokemon An option for a plainer background (like aesoft's) And that's really all they wanted from it, they loved it anyway. The issues that had should be easily implemented, so I think we're on the right track!
1) That's a really easy change to make (3 characters to change in the qml file) 2) I'd need the backgrounds, to add them. I've only gilad's for now.
Hey guys. This is absolutely fantastic, and thank you so much for taking the time to do this. I would like to suggest a few changes though in order to improve the quality of the player though: 1) Sprite Size needs to be larger - the size of the sprite is completely disproportional to the size of the battle screen, and it looks slightly awkward. 2) Move the sprites horizontally more towards the center - again, it's just awkward positioning of the pokemon. This one might not be so necessary though after you increase the sprite size. There's just so much empty space that it takes away from the battle. 3) Have a way to clearly distinguish turns. - This really enhances the understanding of the battle for the people viewing it and for the narrator. It can help with understanding speeds and thought processes. I probably have more, but I can't think of them at the moment. I will definitely throw in my two cents every now and then for this though. Great work you guys! :D
I'm having a problem, any of you have an idea of what's happening?
I think MikeDec, Derwin and others brought up the battle window. I did some slice and dicing and I thought a battle window more like this would be an improvement over the current (animated) one. But don't limit yourselves to this, as it can probably still be improved. Anyway, the notable aspects I thought needed changing from the current one which has been mentioned but I had my own thoughts too are: Incorporating an avatar A timer seperated from the username as its not that great ATM Moving the preview(pokemon) over to your side, the current battle window makes it somewhat difficult to differentiate who's pokes are for who's team IMO Naturally, if the match is in a "wifi/preview" tier it makes ZERO sense to conceal pokemon that haven't shown up on field yet, I think Kyrk mentioned this already. Many battlers usually copy paste the team preview and put it into their chatbar already, this would allow them to skip that Instead of putting the 6 pokes into a "fog" they could instead be put into a poké case, backpack, belt, etc. Can't think of anything else atm, but hope this helps
I fixed your picture for you. I see your idea, and think it's a good idea, though with some changes that I may or may not edit.
Actually it doesn't happen with the newer one now that I take a close look but it does flash white right as the battle starts.
Regarding PO 2.0.10, would we have to re input the code used for all of these features, or just the animated sprites? Also, is the code to change this at all different?
Also, would we get hazard information of the hover text if we can't get it on the window? No hazard info. Hazard info.
Besides some things i've already mentioned in an earlier post or that others have posted about. I enjoy the new sizing of the new replay viewer, looks more stretched horizontally in contrast to the height. its better proportionally speaking. In terms of the Animated logger, I feel like it somewhat blocks the users team preview "fog" while turns are occuring rather fast as text keeps appearing. I also noticed a person used Magic Bounce and the Move Spikes shows up as a move used by the magic bounce user seen in this pic. Also I believe someone I know reported the battle text mistake where it says "magic mirror" instead of "magic bounce" which was an old japanese to english translation so to speak. also, in relation to the animation, i like most of it with a few exceptions. I think that they should be more subtle and shorter if possible, such examples are earthquake which really shakes the screen violently and scald/surf which i feel is a tad long (lasts about 5 seconds). These are just examples though on what I'm trying to say. I'm also not a huge fan of the background image being the battlefield. It's a very nice high quality picture and all but it just feels like its "too present" or "not subtle" enough but then again, this is just my opinion on this matter. oh, and i know the hazards issue has been brought up numerous times but maybe they can be applied visually as something on the field instead of it having to be as hover-over text.
As I was recording a battle video, I was reminded of a bug I have yet to report. Whilst the replay viewer initiates, it switches the first Pokemon's name that is to be sent out in the first turn of the whole battle with the first switch in to another Pokemon. I have also noticed a bug regarding the HP bar coincidentally on the first turn as well. When damage is taken first turn, it seems to add a random amount to the HP bar instead of subtracting the proper amount. In this video you will see that Whimsicott and Mesprit swap names and Mesprit is boosted to 110% HP upon taking a U-Turn: Spoiler [/HIDE]
I agree with all of Zodiak's points. Some animations are just too obnoxious and/or long. The high def background takes away from the battle itself. Minor complaints, really. This is making a lot of progress
We asked for a less flashy battle window here: http://pokemon-online.eu/forums/showthread.php?17537-New-Battle-Window but coyo wasn't satisfied with the results.
It would also be great to have a team preview, as well as I'm bumping this thread http://pokemon-online.eu/forums/showthread.php?10573-Making-move-animations
