It is also among some of the most played. The theme is a little bit strategic, due to the fact that the Samurai for once plays a HEAVY role in this, which you don't see so much in other themes. With Link being the only one able to kill Ganondorf, he is the one to be kept alive, but however Link must be careful about claiming when Koume is around, due to her ability to daykill, although this is revealed. In larger games it's a bit of a killfest at night, but so is default and I doubt too many people will care Bellum and Annalist are not in the roles list and should probably be removed from the code or something. Everytime I play this theme I always think the village is underpowered but somehow the mass amount of citizens makes up for it. Approved pending the code fix.
I approve this. The theme was made well and there is good balance between the sides (not really sure about the order of the roles that come in after 30 players though...). The idea of having a Vaati, the mafiaboss, getting a separate kill from his minions is a rather unique concept, even today. Everything down to the priorities of actions seem to have been meticulously done.
Pro theme without doubts, suggestions. -Add Bellum as poisoner(2 per night) with this, change Farore and make it a safeguarder(2 safeguards), Add Linebeck as new -2 voter. -A 5 players game is like ¨or the two baddies kill the two Link partners or gg¨. Maybe use the new min of players and make the game only possible with 6 players.
I'm snipping the essential bits from Sir Kitty's post. I like and agree with those views. Zelda was instantly one of my favorite themes due to its exemplary role as a balanced and thoroughly enjoyable theme. The clever distribution of roles helps to negate any possible outclassing of one side by another. The suggestion above about re-introducing Bellum as a poisoner and Farore as safeguarder isn't too bad, but I do think the theme is lovely as is. But of course you're welcome to toy around with the idea for any future update. The only apparent issue is Link's role description. I'm surprised no one pointed this out before. It needs to be changed to include a warning about Koume ("reveal as soon as Koume is out of the picture so you can get protection) since it could be dreadfully misleading to new players otherwise. I'll assume you'll apply the necessary fix - In addition to the ones Sir Kitty mentioned in his post and sign this one as approved. [8]
Isn't Navi's hax rate too high? Almost every time Kotake/Koume and the Wind Mage try to kill someone they are haxed.
Yes, Navi's hax rate is really high but this is easily offset when you consider that Malladus, Skull Kid and Ganondorf will completely evade Navi. The ease at which the Wind Mage is haxed is also offset by them having the ability to kill 2 at night. If the Wind Mage are tactical with their kills and show a bit of patience then Navi will be devoured and this would leave the minions free to roam as they please.
By the way, I'd remove the warning about Koume for Link's help. Some Koume will play to win, not killing a Link until late-game. At some point, the risk/reward spectrum for both players need to be emphasized, and I feel telling Link explicitly not to kill until Koume is dead makes it worthless.
You have a fair point but the message still needs to be edited. Maybe it could be changed to some thing like "claim as soon as you think it's safe so you can get protection". This at least acts as sort of disclaimer to use your own judgement. Saying bluntly to claim night one is misleading.
While I don't want to remove the beautiful simplicity of this theme I'm seconding whoever said put in a poisoner and make Farore a safeguarder. Whenever I play Zelda peeople play Farore like it's a Citi with the attitude "ah, fuck this, I'm useless role Farore, gonna go battle!" because in general -2 votes will not turn anything early-game and late-game Farore will have either claimed or be dead.
I'd love to see this theme modernized with characters from games such as Skyward Sword, Phantom Hourglass, etc. The theme is good in small numbers, but when you get to big games? Just played a game of Zelda with 15 people. Only a Vaati Minion died n1, Link hit Skull Kid d1, and village went on to win the game without any problems whatsoever. I'll continue to edit this post with every game just so you guys can see how n1/d1 determines the game.
Well... that kind of happens in all themes. In small game FF, if Kefka dies n1 the village usually wins. In small game FE, if Nergal dies n1 the village usually wins. In FiM if Spike dies the village usually loses. See where I'm going with this? Its not necessarily a bad thing that n1/d1 determines the game, really I find it as a fun challenge when Impa/Zelda dies night 1. Thats just my opinion. That being said, this theme is rather outdated, and I wouldn't mind if someone were to create a Zelda+ theme if the MAs were cool with that.
It's an interesting idea, but I'm a huge Zelda supporter. It's an old theme and there are no new roles, yes, but a theme doesn't necessarily have to have the biggest fastest bestest roles. It's an art in the work of balancing, and some things said here aren't fair. Well, of course Village are gonna lose if BG and PL die n1! What do you think will happen? If Link kills a Citizen, then that's a misplay! It's like saying that if no-one BG's Roy in FE, and he dies, it's not balanced! There's a comment above me saying that if there are various outcomes then various factions like Vaati/Gerudo/Village/SK/Malladus win. Well, that's what makes a good theme, that no side is too dominant! What do you want, give Link 3 daykills and every Citizen be a 5-time BG? I just don't get it. I appreciate you guys have opinions, and that's 100% fair, but you have to back them up with actual hard proof. Sky, in your game you died d1. That was Gerudo out and all they had to do was get the Vaati's. I do appreciate that in small games things can be broke a little, but take the old FF 5-player games. Kefka/Garland/Moogle/Locke/Auron, iirc. A PR was gonna die n1. If Kefka fakeclaimed Locke, he'd almost always win. Tifa, can't remember if she was there, but what could she do? The only thing that she could do was PL Garland. If she PL'd Kefka, she died. And for every theme, there is a locker game like that. It's not unique to Zelda whatsoever. On making Zelda+, I am guaranteed to be in the minority here, but I don't really like to see it. Too often, great coders like Cake, ( rip Cake, btw )have been so eager with new ideas they made a theme, a +theme, and I think there was small talkk of making ++. It doesn't work, because it's never going to be as good as the original. SSBB was one of my favorite themes. SSBB+ was an enjoyable killfest. Later, poor Cake was so thoughtful and ambitious, she started piling huge convert codes in. That's the definition of a noobkiller, not Castle. Like, there aren't so many new characters in the new games. And isn't Midna from Twilight Princess? I think so. Alright, adding a second Din in, not so great, and they did have roles like Annalist which were slightly different to Citizen in larger games. On the subject of Din, I think Fi from Skyward Sword is a very viable substitute. Demon Lord Ghirahim could also be a poisoner, if you really want to spice things up, however it's not vital. If you were doing that, you could make some Villager a Safeguarder or something. But for me this is as far as new roles and themes can really go, without destroying the intricacies of Zelda. P.S. QC are probably going to let you, which is fair enough, but I had to make my stand, and there it is.

I once wanted to adopt this theme too (but I lost interest because Zelda games are lame now IMO). I think this theme is outdated, and almost nothing it does is really unique. Probably it wouldn't be approved if it weren't a classic. That said, even if some people say "This theme does not need any change", that won't keep us from throwing suggestions here, right? In my opinion, one or two themes added/updated would be enough to breath new life to this theme. So, random suggestions coming. Feel free to say any of those is terribad, but please offer proper arguments to do so: -I always thought a Moon role (from Majora's Mask) would be cool. it would probably be a solo role or sided with Skull Kid (if sided with Skull Kid, it could not get team-reveal, depending on its abilities). Some ideas on what it could do: --2 poisons that would take 3 nights to kill. Considering a Zelda game rarely gets more than 6 nights, I don't think this would be too OP, although I'm not too fond of Poison in this theme; --Can do nothing until N3, then it gets a nightkill (or another action, similar to Black Knight). The downside here is that I don't think more deaths would make this theme better; --Another idea was a role that gets extra votes (something between 5~15, or maybe random votes?) for the first 3 turns, then it converts itself to something else. -An Epona role could be interesting. It could be a passive Bodyguard (Gives Link a 50~100% chance of evading daykills), but would die if targetted by any action. Only for big games.
I like this theme the way it is, but I don't mind you changing the theme up a little, as long as the roles don't get too complicated. (Don't add a safeguarder or poisoner) I don't see any changes that this theme needs, besides the fact that the last few roles are kind of boring, like you mentioned, but its not like we get that many players anymore. Also, don't use a Bellum because that will ruin the strategy of the theme. I reccommend deleting it from the code, since its not used anyways.
Okay, the thing is the bigger games. Right? You saw the end of the code... There's actually errors in it. That needs to be cleaned up (meaning double Dins, etc.) so for one that needs to be fixed, plus it needs a more unique village (i.e. Poisoner or that Epona that Rice suggested). To make it more up-to-date, it could use Fi, Ghirahim, Demise, or even Mia (that crazy-ass dog thing Remlit). Those sound like they could be interesting roles, although Fi would probably be somewhat of a Navi clone... Demise and Ghirahim are both powerful, and Demise could possibly convert into EPIC SPOILER Spoiler THE IMPRISONED . Mia could be a Werewolf but that would just add insult to injury on Tingle being totally useless in many games. Loftwings and Groose's gang also could make somewhat-interesting roles. Back to previous games, there's Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks. Phantoms? What a bad-ass idea. Can't be killed ever (without the Phantom Sword which we could also implement). Bomb, perhaps? As for Spirit Tracks we have Malladus, I guess. We could have him be able to possess Zelda. There are so many options that were obviously overlooked when this theme was made, and far more have been added with Skyward Sword. inb4 4th day glitch
Your demise thing needs to be the other way around there Sky. I am assuming you played that game so I expect better from you. Groose needs his own side for the sole fact that he needs his own personal win message. I have an actual idea for Groose but not the rest of his gang because, well, they suck and aren't important. I see initialCondition curse being a good addition to this theme. Not the curse command itself though because that would make things to complicated.
hey um, simple themes are good themes, it not having a "unique" village is bullshit, it was one of the first themes to have a samurai in the starting village, its sad that today themes need to spam prs in order for them to think that the sides are good
It's not about making it complex, it's about being outdated. A single role could be enough to make this theme more interesting without making things complicated. To anyone who may remember, FF was always labeled as a "Good and simple theme" before Ultimecia was added, and that role didn't ruin the theme or made it complicated. As it is now, Zelda is merely a reskin+ that was approved for "being a classic". Critisizing other themes won't make this one look better.
More random ideas. If Koume/Kotake dies/is voted out and the other is still alive, have them turn into Twinrova. It's like in the games where when you did too much damage to them they turned into their final form. Give it an independent nightkill or another daykill, or double poison - something interesting. Phantom Ganon as a role, or an option for Ganondorf to turn a citizen into Phantom Ganon, being inspected as Ganon and such. I may be ripping off Nergal from FE but this would be a one-time thing at least. I was reading Rice's post about the Moon and thought maybe you could just give SK a small buff relating to Majora's Mask or something (because I don't remember SK doing well in many Zelda games from my experience).
