Typing, abliity and base stats Type: Dragon/Flying Ability: Air Lock Negates effects of weather when Rayquaza is on the battlefield. Also negates all abilities triggered by weather (Chlorophyll, Swift Swim etc), and moves that change in various weather conditions (Growth, Blizzard, Thunder) no longer will. The weather effects return when Rayquaza leaves the battlefield. Base Stats HP: 105 Attack: 150 Defence: 90 Special Attack: 150 Speed: 95 Total: 680 2. Rayquaza in Wifi Ubers The master of the skies returns to cause chaos and destruction in the 5th Generation. Not many Pokemon can claim to be unwallable. Rayquaza however, can. It has 150/150 base attacking stats, and the moves to hit everything for neutral damage. Its ability helps too: it can swiftly eliminate Ferrothorn, Foretress and Skarmory whatever the weather. It also lets it outrun and eliminate Swift Swim Kingdra and Sand Rush Excadrill. It's not all good news though. With 105/90/90 defences, it's not what you'd call bulky. Its typing only makes that worse: its weak to Stealth Rock, and has a X4 weakness to Ice (although on the flip side, it gives it an immunity to Spikes and Toxic Spikes). And on the surface, base 95 speed looks a bit lackluster. However, it has Dragon Dance and Extremespeed to make up for that. Those aren't serious problems though - play around them, and Rayquaza can flatten teams with ease. 3. Rayquaza in DW Ubers Things are pretty much the same in DW Ubers. Its mission is made more difficult by Multiscale Lugia, who can check Rayquaza if Stealth Rock isn't in play. It can use the pinch berries here (not very useful) and it has support from Shadow Tag Chadelure. However, the cybernetic cockroach roams in the lands of DW Ubers. Scarf Genesect is a reliable check to Rayquaza, since it outruns it and can 1HKO with Ice Beam. If Genesect hasn't got a Scarf though, Rayquaza can beat it one on one. 4. Movesets Warrior's Dance Nature: Jolly (+Spd -SAtk) Item: Life Orb/Lum Berry EVs: 248 Atk, 8 SAtk, 252 Spd Dragon Dance Outrage Earthquake Overheat/Fire Blast Dragon Dance is the crux of this set - after using it once, Rayquaza essentially has a Choice Band and Choice Scarf, with the freedom to switch moves. Outrage gets STAB and does massive damage to anything that doesn't resist it. Earthquake backs up Outrage nicely, 1HKOing Heatran, Jirachi and offensive Dialga after a Dragon Dance Boost. Overheat 1HKOs Ferrothorn, Foretress and Skarmory. It's more powerful and more accurate, but if you don't like the stat penalties go with Fire Blast. Life Orb is generally the better item, but Lum Berry stops an opponent crippling Rayquaza with status. Skyward Swords Nature: Adamant (+Atk -SAtk) Item: Life Orb EVs: 4 HP, 252 Atk, 252 Spd Swords Dance Dragon Claw Extremespeed V-Create Another way you can sweep with Rayquaza. After a Swords Dance boost, its Attack stat leaves the sky and goes into space. Don't believe me? After a Swords Dance boost, Dragon Claw 2HHKOs 252 HP/252 Def Impish Groudon. Extremespeed works very well on this set - it allows Rayquaza to beat the fast and frail Pokemon hoping to revenge kill it. Darkrai and Thundurus are both 1HKOd, while Mewtwo takes massive damage (if Stealth Rock is in play, it has a high chance to be 1HKOd). V-Create has astonishing power, and swiftly KOs anything that resists Dragon Calw at +2 (bar Heatran, and a +2 Dragon Claw 2HKOs that anyway.) Special Skydance Nature: Rash (+SAtk -SDef) Item: Life Orb EVs: 40 Atk, 252 SAtk, 216 Spd Dragon Dance Draco Meteor Outrage Earthquake/Fire Blast This set isn't commonly used, but it's just as good at sweeping as the above sets. After a Dragon Dance, most players will be expecting a physical set. So they switch in a Groudon - which is immediately 1HKOed by Draco Meteor. Outrage is a good secondary STAB move to use after the stat penalties of Draco Meteor have taken place, and after a Dragon Dance does a lot of damage. The last move is up to you - Earthquake wrecks Dialga, Heatran and Jirachi while Fire Blast wrecks Ferrothorn, Foretress and Skarmory even after the stat penalties of Draco Meteor. Cruise Missile Nature: Naive (+Spd -SDef) Item: Life Orb/Focus Sash EVs: 56 Atk, 200 SAtk, 256 Spd Draco Meteor V-Create Outrage/Earthquake Stone Edge Unlike the above sets, this is designed to remove specific Pokemon to give Rayquaza's teammates an easier time. Draco Meteor: STAB move that punches big holes in anything that doesn't resist it. V-Create: roasts the steel types that resist Draco Meteor. Outrage: secondary STAB move that deals with the pink blobs and is generally brilliant. Earthquake: eliminates Heatran, Dialga and Jirach. Stone Edge: 2HKOs Lugia, and 1HKOs Ho-Oh. Such Power Should Be Band Nature: Adamant (+Atk -SAtk) Item: Choice Band EVs: 4 HP, 252 Atk, 252 Spd Outrage Earthquake Extremespeed V-Create Like the above set, this one isn't designed for sweeping. It's designed to clear up what's left of your opponent's team late game. Outrage is the STAB move - anything that's taken around 40% damage (that doesn't resist it, or isn't a max defence Groudon or Dialga) will be 1HKOd. Earthquake pairs up well with Outrage, picking off most of the Steel types that resist Outrage. Extremespeed lets Rayquaza finish off the weakened, frail sweepers. V-Create takes care of anything that resists Outrage (apart from Heatran). Other Options A Choice Specs set is possible - Rayquaza has the stats and moves to pull it off. But Dialga, Reshiram and Kyogre all do that better thanks to better bulk and more powerful attacks respectively. Surf might sound interesting, but beyond KOing Groudon without penalties it's virtually useless since a neutral Draco Meteor hits harder than a X2 Surf. Waterfall can be used on the Choice Band and Swords Dance set, but it has the same problems as Surf. Choice Scarf can be used, but there are much better Pokemon for that job (Zekrom, Dialga, Shaymin-S). 5. Dealing with opposing Rayquaza The best way to deal with Rayquaza is to revenge kill it, but that's easier said than done thanks to Dragon Dance and Extremespeed. Choice Scarf Dialga and Terrakion can handle the Swords Dance set - they resist Extremespeed, outrun and can 1HKO with Draco Meteor and Stone Edge respectively. Mewtwo can outrun and 1HKO with Ice Beam. But again, if it's got a Dragon Dance in Rayquaza can outrun Mewtwo and 1HKO with Outrage. If hazards are in play, Swords Dance Rayquaza can 1HKO Mewtwo with Extremespeed. Choice Band Scizor can finish off Rayquaza if it's taken around 55% damage - if it hasn't though, Rayquaza can easily finish Scizor off with any of its Fire moves. Extremekiller Arceus is a good check - it can usually beat Rayquaza one on one. But unless Rayquaza's been weakened, Arceus will still take a lot of damage.
I'd like to point out the sd-v create set, which isn't getting much use right now. Rayquaza @ Life Orb Trait: Air Lock EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk) - Swords Dance - Dragon Claw - ExtremeSpeed - V-create V-create rayquaza is already released, I've been using it on the po server for awhile now. Proof: http://pokemon.aesoft.org/replay-Alt-test-vs-Oh-You-Deoxys--2012-06-05-private1531636017 [Turn 7] Me playing someone on the ladder with it. Personally, the only reason I believe you should use v-create over overheat / fire blast is to hit arceus grass, which has become a staple on rain stall teams. With stealth rock + spikes support [Which something like deoxys-s can easily provide in most matches, as seen in this replay], sd rayquaza can be used to its full potential as a stall-breaker and devastating sweeper for offensive teams. Although my opponent wasn't that good in this replay, its all about the theory, so its not that important. Set up hazards, find an opportunity to use swords dance, then sweep - 3 steps! I think you're going to get the best production out of either this sd set or the mixed rayquazas. DD rayquaza [dragon dance / outage / eq / overheat or f blast], the most popular set, is great vs sand teams + random kyogre drizzle teams with 2-4 swift swimmers, but otherwise has been fairly mediocre in my experience.
Blimax, how are you getting V-create on Rayquaza? I don't see it in the teambuilder and I don't recall there being any updates after version 1.0.53.
Jeese a.k.a ban nattorei helped me out with this [10:15:15 PM] Jesse: Search your computer for a file called "5G_special_moves.txt" It'll be located in the db/pokes folder within your PO installation directory, but the best way to find it is just to use Windows search of Finder (on Mac), right/control click and select "Open Containing/Enclosing Folder." [10:15:28 PM] Jesse: http://www.smogon.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=222&d=1332416458 [10:15:42 PM] Jesse: and replace it with that
Thanks Blimax, it worked! Rayquaza-X, it should be the same on a Mac. Go to Pokemon Online>db>pokes>5G_special_moves.txt, open the file, replace the text with that from here (it asks you to log in and then you download a text file), and save it.
Is it possible to do it without using WineBottler? DSM01, When I show the resources of the PO file, and db isn't even there... EDIT: nvm, just used WineBottler, wasn't working before
Mixed Rayquaza and Dragon Dance Salamence are born lovers. Once Forretress spikes the enemy's floor, they will sweep like crazy.
Yeah, that's one combo that started back in Gen. 4, it's only better now with Moxie Salamence and more base 90's Dragons that you can outspeed easily. Not to mention, the only Steels many teams have nowadays are Forretress/Ferrothorn, which are just eaten up by this.
