Just curious as to what people usually play pokemon on a ds or emulator. Myself I play gen 1-3 on GB SP and gen 4 on Desmume.
Gameboy Color for gen 1 and gen 2, Gameboy Advance (the crappy one without backlit) for gen 3, DS lite for gen 4 and 5. Though I'll probably play BW2 on 3DS. I used Stadium 1&2's build-in emu to play 1st and 2nd gen with 4x speed though.
I play Gen1 and 3 one emus and 2 and 4 one GB and DS. Desmume for life though (use it for Scribblenauts Wiki pic-grabbing) I play gen 1 and 3 on my PSP actually, instead of VBA.
Mostly emulator for 1-3 cause ded internal batteries and sticky GBA buttons. 4/5 are still DS cause slow emu.
I play gen's 1 and 2 on my Ipod (rarely computer) because the emulator i use has a speed up button (grinding becomes ez) and its fun to nuzlocke with it. Gen 3 i can emulate but i rarely do because my gba works fine. Gen 4 and 5 i do NOT emulate because it's slow I did buy most of the games anyway, but then again duplication of games is illegal (that's the argument used against saying 'i bought the game so i can emulate it')
Hmm I wish desmume had a speed up function a speed run would be fun. If you have an issue with this I can close this thread. there are lots of good gen 4 emu's around these days however I agree it's very hard to find a good gen 5 one all in Japanese :/
I could play any gen on the original system (I.e GBC,GBA,DS etc), but I would play each game on the emulator instead, the speed up funtion (space bar) makes the games so much more tolerable. after playing red on an emulator, I tried to play it on my GB, and couldn't, it was just too slow
I have used my DS for all of my games so far, but I will likely play BW2 on my 3DS. I play Pokémon Battle Revolution on the Wii.
Well, in india you can't really find any pokemon game or even a nintendo device, especially where I live, i mean before 2 years ago i didn't even know pokemon games existed.
Game Boy for Pokemon Red, Game Boy Color for Pokemon Gold, Game Boy Advance SP for Pokemon Sapphire, Fire Red and Emerald, and Nintendo DS and DSi for all Gen 4 and 5 games. I'm a good boy :>
Gameboy Advance SP for Pokemon FireRed, Emerald and Sapphire. DS lite for Pokemon Pearl and Soul Silver.
Well there's a bunch of confusion over ROMs, but mostly it's allowed if you use tools to get the ROM image yourself (a fair few allow you to download too if you have the original game and to be honest, no one is really going to check how you got it) but yeah the whole area is a mess that I don't think most people care for~ Anyways, I bought Red/Blue/Yellow/Silver/Crystal/Platinum/Heart Gold/White I still have Yellow and Crystal, but lack a GBC to play them :< So if I even wanted to play them again I'd have to emulate, but I've never really wanted to... Spoiler I did emulate Emerald too without having the original :< But shh~[/HIDE] Also I think the title would be more appropriate as "Handheld (console?) or Emulator" since people are talking GB/C/A too
Gen 1 and 2 on Emu. Firered on Gameboy with no backlight :v Dp/Plat/HG/Black on Ds Lite BW2 prob on emulator :x
correct but not changing it people understand... Spoiler Lazy[/HIDE] Connor Kenway sounds like an emulator is perfect for you as it should work anywhere.
I always get the game for the console first, then maybe download the emulator. I've only dowloaded emulators for the 2nd-4th generations, though.
I tried playing Diamond on an emulator but it was so slow. There are no good DS emulators for Mac... At least none that I can find. For everything not DS I use visualboy. It works pretty well. :D
Ruby on GBA, Platinum, Diamond on DS/3DS, but sadly I have to play leafgreen/fire red on an emulator.
Emulators, I'm not buying a DS/2DS/3DS since I wouldnt have use for it besides pokemon. I already got a PS3 and 360
I only play emulators for nuzlocking, playing ROMhacks and/or testing my ROMhack out (people from Elite will know what I'm on about). Apart from that, I mainly play on my GameBoy (original), one of my 2 GBA's or my 3DS, though I still have my 2 DS Lites and my 1 DSI XL. :O
I don't use an emulator for anything. I have the game boy player on my GameCube and a GameBoy Color so I'm set for the old games. Spoiler Game Boy Color: Blue, Yellow, Crystal DS: Fire Red, Sapphire, Emerald, Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, Soul Silver, Black, White, Black 2, White 2, Ranger, Ranger: Shadows of Almia, Ranger: Guardian Signs, PMD, PMD2: Time, PMD2: Sky Wii/GameCube: XD, Coliseum, Battle Revolution 3DS: X, Y, PMD3 Emulator: nothing[/HIDE]
Lol Lol same here i knew nothing about Pokémon 4 months from posting this Its impossible to get any pokemon games on ds or 3ds or any console in india i play on drastic for nds on android it runs awesome way better than desmume on pc and also myboy for gba and myoldboy for gb and gbc these android emulators are better than pc versions or is it that my pc is garbage
I had a Gameboy Color and a DS however both met eternal doom ;-; and now I use MyBoy and DraStic emulators on droid for Nintendo games... And I will soon buy a 3DS via flipkart since it is really hard to get even a DS in India without online shopping.
I only emulate games that I own a physical copy of, including its physical console to play on. Nintendo aren't going to make new old-consoles or controllers for them after a time. Games, consoles and controllers all eventually wear, tear and break in time also. The good side of emulation is backing up progress. Even having multiple save files for testing. So far I've got Pokemon Blue and Pokemon Stadium emulated. I don't have a DS emulator yet but I like to emulate Pokemon Platinum some point. The speed boost in the emulator is a life saver.
No Wifi compatibility really hurts downloadable emulators like VBA or Desmume, being unable to get trade evolutions or event mons. I never emulated a DS cart itself or however the hell it works, but the ability to speed up and save whenever you want compensates the experience UNTIL Gen 6 games arrived. I think that's when emulators ultimately lost.
Wifi was shut down for the DS games anyway, so you can't do that anymore. Besides, with emulators, you get hacks like Emerald 386, where you can catch everything.
There are edits/hacks of old games for Game Boy from what I've heard. You never know. Someone with good DS game code knowledge may able to make a new WiFi host battle/trade server, were people be able to WiFi battle/trade again like on the DS before it was shut down after 3DS server went up.
I never had the chance to get a Gameboy or Gameboy Colour so I would play Gen 1 & 2 on an emulator The DS had a GBA slot so I play gen 3, 4 & 5 on DS Everything else 3DS
